ACHTUNG, SPOILER! --- ACHTUNG, SPOILER! Heute im Programm: Brokeback Mountain, Chicago (1938), Indiana Jones - Raiders of the Lost Ark, Boyz n the Hood, Tucker and Dale vs Evil, Die Hard, The Lion King, Dancer in the Dark, Blade Runner

His artistic vision and talents as a painter have contributed to some of the fantastical backdrops featured in "Star Wars", "Indiana Jones: Raiders of the Lost Ark" and "E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial". As art director Michael Pangrazio receives the Génie d'honneur prize for outstanding achievement in visual effects at the Paris Images Digital Summit, he tells us about starting out in the film industry at an experimental time and how specialising in matte painting saw him create iconic scenes for Steven Spielberg. We also talk about how AI is set to revolutionise the movie industry and discuss the young filmmaking talents that have impressed him recently.

John Rhys-Davies (Indiana Jones, The Lord of the Rings) joins us this week for one of my favorite interviews yet. The guy is prolific! He gets into everything from his pessimism heading into Lord of the Rings, the intimidation of working alongside Sean Connery, the immense difficulty of filming Indiana Jones: Raiders of the Lost Ark, and so much more. John was an open book this week, going on to talk about the pain of losing a child, his outlook on life after death, and the current vacuum of creativity our industry is stuck in. Hope you enjoy. Join Sis and Big Pops for a fun, fun talk about one of the things we love most—Nerd Stuff. We discuss our fav bits of nerd news over the past couple of weeks: the Wonder Woman comic has been taken over by Tom King and now has a daughter named Trinity, Disney is closing their Star Wars Galactic Cruiser Hotel, and Pops couldn't make it through the DnD movie due to the peril of the daughter. We also discussed some new movie news: a live-action How To Train your Dragon is in the works, One Piece is going to be a live-action 10-ep show on Netflix, Secret Invasion with Nick Fury on Disney+, a new DnD streaming platform, and more news about the 60th Doctor Who Special featuring Tennant and Tate. For bingeing, Big Pops has been watching Mrs. Davis on Paramount+, Out there, Ted Lasso, and he has been re-reading Birth Right. Sis is still going strong watching Doctor Who and has really loved Jewish Matchmaking on Netflix. She also has been watching movies – Robin Hood: Men in Tights, and Monty Python and the Search for the Holy Grail. Then, Pops shares his pull list! This week he introduces us to Nightwing Issue 104 by DC; Fury Issue 1 by Marvel; as well as Barbaric- Hell to Pay Issue 4 by Vault. His new number 1 is The Vigil by DC, With his Book of the Week being Supermassive 2023 by Image. This week we reviewed Indiana Jones-Raiders of the Lost Ark. We also reviewed the DC comic run Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, which was one of Pops' fav books of 2023, and Sis agrees, owns up to the hype and is well worth the read. This episode was originally recorded on 05/30/23. Check us out on twitter @sisandbpops

With Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny right around the corner, the guys thought it would be a good idea to rate and review the 4 previous Indiana Jones films. Today's episode is Raiders of the Lost Ark, followed by Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. Classics in their own right, but how do they hold up to todays standards of internet movie reviewers?
We are so very excited for Indy's return to the big screen this summer in Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny! As we prepare for this new adventure, we've decided to look back at the previous four films, pair them up thematically and do a duology of episodes. In this first part we've paired Raiders of the Lost Ark and The Last Crusade. We're thrilled to be joined by our friend Alex Damon from Star Wars Explained! This was somewhat of an unhinged episode full of love, and excitement for these beloved films! The gang speaks fake Italian this week, as they review the British-American heist comedy, A Fish Called Wanda (1988) starring Jamie Lee Curtis, Kevin Kline, John Cleese, and Michael Palin. While not a Monty Python production, the silliness prevails, and the laughs come from both the obvious, and the subtle bits. Kevin Kline won best supporting actor as his role as Otto, and the film itself won a list of awards, in addition to being #1 in the box office. The guys get together for one of Mike’s favorite films, Indiana Jones: Raiders of the Lost Ark. The guys begin with Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones and how big of run he was on and how he was the perfect actor to play the role even if Joe has some other ideas. They continue with a favorite scene in the opening and Mike describes how it sets the tone of the whole movie. The guys then name their top 5 Steven Spielberg movies and that causes some debate between the trio. Joe gives a not so surprising MVP, they talk the annoying monkey, snakes, and the coolest piece of closet accessory you’ll ever see. The guys close with an amazing Indiana Jones stunt and hotly debate the final scene. Finally, Harrison Ford makes it difficult in The Recast but the guys get great actors in the fold to recreate this Masterpiece. Part of the Walk-Ons NetworkThank you for listening!

It was an incredible moment when Allyson realized Zach had never seen the Indiana Jones trilogy. I still can't believe it myself, but I would never mock Zach as cruelly as Allyson did that day. Luckily he's seen the first one now so the torment has lessened but he still has 2 more to get through. Will he survive the abuse? Stay tuned!

This week, Jerrett catches Sam up on the culture that is Indiana Jones: Raiders of the Lost Ark. This is a big episode as Indiana is an important figure in Jerrett's childhood...but will he impress Sam as much as he impressed young Jerrett? Follow the show on Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/catchupculture/) and Twitter (https://twitter.com/catchupculture). Each week, Jerrett and Sam introduce each other to culture they missed out on. They had wildly different upbringings and often have opposite entertainment preferences. Sam was raised on SNL, Half Baked, and Beavis & Butthead, while Jerrett's more conservative household meant the usual Disney fare, westerns, and his favorite thing in the whole world, Star Wars. They've spent their 10 years together rewatching movies and binging TV shows, taking each other on a constant nostalgic ride to relive classic culture.
This week on Total Movie Recall, Ryan takes us on a journey through time and memory to show us his origins as a film-lover, a man, and, lo, a human. Sure, he could have said his favorite movie was some snooty, intellectual piece of New Hollywood cinema, but that would be a lie. It's a VHS that his father got him as part of a $5.99 Big Mac giveaway at McDonald's, and he was never the same. He makes himself vulnerable before you, and of course, Steve makes him regret it. In our second installment of "The Christian Faith, One Word at a Time," we go back in time to look at the ark of the covenant (yes, the same one featured in Indiana Jones: Raiders of the Lost Ark) and see why Paul compares Jesus to its lid. There's a special connection and its a much better way for God to address our sin that winks or tears or walks in the park...

Indiana Jones: Raiders of the Lost Ark celebrates its 35th anniversary. Is it still a rocking good time? Or will a re-watch leave you feeling crushed? The Watch-men podcast reviews the Spielberg-Lucas classic and answers this question, plus Sam and Matt break down a few of their favourite scenes and ponder over just how handsome Harrison Ford was back in 1981 (the answer is very). It's a face-melting, Nazi-hating, snake-tastic episode on this week's The Watch-men podcast!

The spider wrangler has placed a large suitcase full of big hairy male tarantulas all over the terrified actor who’s playing opposite Harrison Ford. The cameras are rolling on the set of “Indiana Jones - Raiders of the Lost Ark” and the dramatic cave scene is underway. But Director Stephen Spielberg is not happy. The eight legged extras are not moving and he thinks they look fake, so the spider man comes to the rescue with a cunning plan. Release a female amongst them and all hell will break loose. And that’s exactly what happened next, much to the horror of Alfred Molina. Alfred Molina is a well known actor from the UK. He’s appeared in more than 50 film, television and stage productions, including his famous role in Indiana Jones Raiders of the Lost Ark and Spider-Man 2. Over the past 30 years he’s developed a reputation for an incredible ability to nail character-driven roles. He’s able to transform himself into nearly every character imaginable and it doesn’t seem to matter what nationality or accent. Alfred is game to try them all on for size. He’s played a chronically unfaithful Mexican painter in Frida, a deranged drug-dealer in Boogie Nights as well the comic-book villain Doctor Octopus in Spider-Man 2. It’s been said about this famous character actor, "He's great in just about everything but he disappears so completely in the roles you forget where you've seen him before." There’s something so familiar about Alfred’s face and his voice that it makes you want to go up and say ‘hi” like he’s a friend. And that’s exactly how I felt when I met Alfred for the first time.. and now..well.. it’s like we’ve been tea drinking mates forever.

Indiana Jones cared immensely, but didn't care what people thought of him; he lived a wild, amazing, carefree life that was deeply connected to humanity and its history. Since then, Philip has traveled the world embarking on his own adventures and making an impact in his own unique way. He has caddied in golf for the President of Ireland, been chased and nearly killed by a bull elephant in Nigeria, made wine in Australia, built an orphanage in Peru, written five books despite being dyslexic, and created a documentary film called Give & Grow. This film explores how the gift of giving makes us feel more worthy and alive, as well as the science behind the impact of giving on our emotional well being, our mental health, our physiology, and our businesses. Through all of this, Philip came to believe that the path to a happy and fulfilling life is found through the meaning we derive in life through the work we do, our relationship to others, and the most important relationship of all – your relationship with yourself. Uncover Your Gifts Discovering these truths about himself, discovering his gift for inspiring others, wasn't easy, and it didn't all happen at once. “My gifts have been dragged out of me,” Philip says. “I've been brought to my gifts kicking and screaming... and, unfortunately, that's what a lot of us need in order to impact the world using our gifts, as opposed to our talents.” So many of us are lost when we try to make an impact because our God-given gifts get tied up with the inherent need to matter or the need to be seen, and we don't really understand how to separate the two anymore. But as Philip says, “If you're tying your gift into some kind of recognition or result, you're not really allowing your gift to shine.” So take a moment to consider who you are seeking validation from today – not if you are seeking validation, but who you are seeking it from. This need for validation may drive you to financial success, but it's never going to drive you to feel fulfilled or satisfied. And you do deserve fulfillment in your life, just as much as you deserve success! Remember, “There's no amount of external validation on Earth that is ever, ever, ever going to be able to fill the gap if you don't matter, at some level, to yourself – and that is the most important relationship on Earth.” -- Resources: Learn more at https://philipmckernan.com/ (https://philipmckernan.com/) Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/philip_mckernan/?hl=en Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/philip.mckernan Twitter: https://twitter.com/philipmckernan?lang=en Watch: Give & Grow Read: One Last Talk: Why Your Truth Matters and How to Speak It Read: Rich on Paper, Poor on Life: 3 Paths to More Meaning (And Money) -- We are brought to you by the Lawton Marketing Group, a full-service advertising and design agency serving companies and entrepreneurs at all levels. But before they show off their trivia prowess, they talk a little about who they are. Stephanie explains how she decided to channel her frustration with politics into a comedy tour and Jonathan discusses why he wants to continue producing Let’s Make a Deal forever, and the story behind why the show’s audience members and contestants wear crazy costumes. Stephanie’s areas of expertise include The Bionic Woman, Soul Cycle and cheap wines, beers and liqueurs from the 1970’s (her enthusiasm for one of these helped her outsmart J. Keith’s question format). Jonathan is knowledgeable about analogue keyboards, Indiana Jones: Raiders of the Lost Arc and World of Warcraft. “Music can transcend these boundaries.” Let's take it back to the burbs of Boston, where if your not eating at Joe's Pizza, you’re escaping to the outdoors, chasing the spirit of adventure, and finding freedom. This was Johan’s world. Growing up, he immersed himself in music, but not necessarily as a musician - his true love was found with classical composition, with heroes like John Williams, and Beethoven. While everyone was listening to the new Eminem or Outkast albums, Johan was bumping the soundtrack to Indiana Jones: Raiders of the Los Ark. Even though he found himself disconnected from pop-culture, there was something much deeper that he was connected to, and perhaps something that truly connects us all. This would soon lead to his life purpose. His mission was to get people to appreciate classical music - this thing that could mean so much to so many people. After attending Yale, and putting together multiple experimental theater productions, trying to deliver classical music in new ways, he quickly realized there was no way to do this without a platform. But one night, life changed, as Johan was introduced to Kanye’s, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. It was an album that took him along a bridge, leading him to pop-culture. And it would be this same bridge that would lead the world to classical. This is a story about the never-ending pursuit to fulfill your purpose. This is about discovery and becoming. This about creating our own “beautiful dark twisted fantasy” and finding something that connects us all. Ladies and Gentlemen, this is Johan. #MamaWeMadeItConnect!IG: @isitjohan@mamawemadeit@anoushmoin@getrauschymamawemadeit.com See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

“Professor of Archaeology, expert on the occult, and how does one say it… obtainer of rare antiquities.” ~Major Eaton This is the description given of one of the most classic characters in history. Indiana Jones made Archaeology seem fun to generations of kids and adults alike. It was dangerous daring and you got to take on Hitler. Jeff our previous co-host loved the adventures of Indy and was one of his biggest fans. Jeff even had a costume to dress up as Indy at any age he was cause he like Indy never knew when Adventure would call. We hope you, like us, enjoy this classic and what we have to say. As we end Jeff month we hope you keep him in your hearts as we do. This episode contains spoilers to this film and possible other movies. www.undergroundinc.info www.facebook.com/undergroundinc3 www.twitter.com/UndergroundInc3 www.thepodcastarcade.com
