Content warning: suicide In this episode, our-decade-by-decade series on the Thunderbolts intersects with one of the biggest political scandals of all time as we discuss Secret Empire and the short-lived career of Nomad, as brought to us by Steve Englehart, Sal Buscema and Frank Robbins, published by Marvel Comics! First, the shadow of Watergate looms large over Captain America and the Falcon #174-176, as the Sentinel of Liberty and his partner-in-crimefighting take on the sinister Secret Empire, leading to a shocking moment that changes Cap's life forever! … or at least for a few issues, as Steve Rogers adopts a new identity as the blandly generic Nomad is issues 180-183! These issues have everything: The X-Men! S.H.I.E.L.D.! The Sub-Mariner! The Serpent Squad! A cameo by the Red Skull! And the surprise guest appearance of 1974! But is all of that enough to earn membership in that clandestine cabal known as … The Comics Canon? In This Episode: · Wheel! Of! MUTANTS! · A few words about Frank Robbins · What is up with the Gamecock? · What's Redwing's favorite music genre? · The Bog Wife · Exit Stage Left: The Snagglepuss Chronicles Join us in two weeks as we discuss Avengers: Under Siege! The CIA’s destructive role in world politics since the end of World War II as a secret rogue spy agency controlled by unelected intelligence officers has become so ubiquitous that it can be joked about. But behind the jokes lies a far darker reality: the agency's imperial ambitions have fueled a legacy of death and destruction in the name of expanding American power. Hugh Wilford, author and professor of history at California State University Long Beach, joins host Robert Scheer on this episode of the Scheer Intelligence podcast to delve into the specifics of CIA operations and their impact on geopolitics from its inception to the present day. Wilford’s book, “The CIA: An Imperial History,” emphasizes how the CIA is an unprecedented force in the world, advancing the goals of a global empire with a facade of spreading democracy. Although it makes for good Hollywood stories, the subversiveness of the agency alongside its brutal methods made it such an effective power that Scheer describes as capable of “destroying the right of people to make their own history.” The two mention the coup in Iran in 1953, choreographed by the CIA, and operations in Vietnam in the ‘60s and most odious examples. The CIA’s bloody worldwide campaigns would leave populations dazed and confused, all under the pretense of acting in their best interest, while the rest of the world remained similarly in the dark. Wilford explains, “It's not just that America is trying to hide its imperial role from world audiences, from people in the post-colonial world in the Global South, it's also somewhat trying to hide what it's doing from U.S. citizens.” These imperial ambitions, Wilford warns, inevitably have a way of backfiring, and the CIA’s history is proof of that. The CIA’s consistent meddling in the Middle East in the 20th century resulted, for instance, in the occupation of the Palestinian people, which has translated to the genocide today. “The growth of this massive secret state to carry out this globalist foreign policy has had baleful consequences, disastrous consequences, not just for people living overseas, but for people within the United States as well,” Wilford explains.

"The Adventures of Superman" was a popular radio show that aired from 1940 to 1951. The show starred Clayton "Bud" Collyer as Superman and his alter ego, the mild-mannered reporter Clark Kent. The series was based on the DC Comics character Superman, who was created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster in 1938.The show was known for its thrilling storylines and special effects, including the iconic opening sequence that featured the famous line, "Faster than a speeding bullet! More powerful than a locomotive! Able to leap tall buildings in a single bound!" The show's writers also introduced several new characters to the Superman mythos, including Jimmy Olsen and Perry White, who would go on to become major characters in the comics."The Adventures of Superman" became one of the most popular radio shows of its time, and it continued to be a hit with audiences even after it ended its run in 1951. The show was later adapted into a successful television series that ran from 1952 to 1958, and it has remained a beloved part of popular culture to this day. These episodes have been digitally remastered and are presented by SolvedMystery.comFor more information about this and other old time radio programs please visit:https://www.solvedmystery.com .
This week, Jared and the JHEAT discuss the monumental mess up that was the Marvel even Secret Empire by Nick Spenser. They go through the plot, context, and more to indicate that this story was a mistake and only served to damage the Captain America brand. Secret Empire served to turn us off of Marvel comics for many years, and no doubt has done so to many others. What do you think? Was Secret Empire horrible? How would you fix this story? No writer had a greater impact on 1970s Marvel than "Stainless" Steve Englehart. From a four-year stint on the Avengers that included the Avengers/Defenders War, to the redefinition of Captain America and the original Secret Empire storyline, to a Doctor Strange run that is still considered among the character's best, Englehart entered just as Marvel pulled ahead of DC Comics in sales and helped to ensure they wouldn't look back for decades. For MORE THAN AN HOUR of extra content, including our discussions of Fantastic Four #125 (Stan Lee's last until 1986) and Avengers #102, as well as our rundown of every other superhero comic that Marvel published in May 1972, support us at patreon.com/marvelbythemonth. At a recent staff meeting I had with myself... I agreed that I have neglected "Superman"... so I put it to a vote and I voted to edit the next two episodes (18 and 19) back-to-back. Epi 18 is "Wolfe vs The Yellow Mask" and Epi. 19 is "The Secret Empire"... the whole gang is here.. Lois Lane, Clark Kent (and we all know who he really is, right?) It is action and adventure from 82 years ago that is still fun listen to today. I will be adding more tracks soon... and they are all stored in the "Superman" Playlist. Thanks for listening.
Leia and Josh are joined by guest Alan Pursell and audited by GN's Jennifer Howland and Bear to witness the grand Nazi wet dream that is Secret Empire, the storyline best known for Nazi Captain America. We are not kind. Nor will we be. This was a lesson in patience and self control. If you like train wrecks, this is the episode for you. #AlwaysPunchNazis

The dynamic duo of Robbie Landis and Ben Morse is back once again for another episode of the Other Identity. The Other Identity is a podcast about exploring the culture created by comic books. This week Robbie and Ben talk about how Batman is the least interesting of the Bat-Family. Plus Robbie prepares to read Marvel's Secret Empire. They discuss what makes the Hulk the Hulk. What are his greatest strengths as a character and how has the Immortal Hulk redefined the character. This Weeks Reading Each Week on the Other Identity Robbie and Ben talk about what they're currently reading. Ben just wrapped up the Night of the Monster Men Arc in Batman, Nightwing, and Detective Comics and had a revelation. He thinks that out of all of the Bat-Family, Batman is actually the least interesting of them. Robbie agrees but points out that each Bat-Family member relies on Bruce and Batman in some way to push their own stories forward. After putting out a poll on social media, Robbie has decided to read through Marvel's Secret Empire arc. However, he's somewhat daunted by the nearly 300-page Prelude book. The Immortal Hulk The main topic of this week's episode is the Jade Giant himself, the Hulk. Robbie and Ben spend some time discussing the strengths (not literally) of the character. Why he works or doesn't work as a hero and the best way to present Bruce Banner and his green alter ego, be it on the page or on the big screen. They eventually come to the current run of the Immortal Hulk by Al Ewing. Ben explains what makes this series so great and how it manages to seamlessly roll in and explain years of Hulk cannon while also expanding and exploring new lore for the Hulk. Robbie compares what Ewing has done with the Immortal Hulk to what Geoff Johns did with the Lantern Corp when he introduced the color spectrum.

8 Simple Rules For Punching A Nazi Hello, and welcome to episode 228 of The Fantasticast. Each week, Steve Lacey and Andy Leyland guide you through every issue, guest-appearance and cameo of The Fantastic Four. For the first time in nearly three years, we open up the pages of a Fantastic Four Annual. The appearance of The Watcher and the disappearance of a small cylinder sets off a journey into an alternate past where the Nazis won World War II. Any similarity between our subject matter this week and a certain comic published this week is purely coincidental, but that doesn't stop us from spoiling the crap out of Secret Empire #0 as we cover Fantastic Four Annual #11. Roy Thomas, John Buscema and Sam Grainger team the Fantastic Four with The Invaders to set history back on track (or not back on track, depending on your viewpoint). Featuring confusion as to how causality and memory actually works, Steve attempting to speak German, incredulity at a certain creator with the initials NS, and the discover of the lessons of the postman. With the stakes continuing to rise, white supremacists intensify their opposition through government obstruction and civilian terrorist attacks, a supportive president is assassinated, and African-Americans across the South are still blatantly prohibited from voting. To carry out their nonviolent revolution, Lewis and an army of young activists launch a series of innovative projects, including the Freedom Vote, Mississippi Freedom Summer, and a pitched battle for the soul of the Democratic Party waged live on national television.
