Neale Kimmel is back as the scriptwriter; she penned all of the Jane movies except for Murder at Moseby. Jodie Sweetin plays Jane Da Silva. Fun fact: Jodie wrote her memoir titled unSweetined: A Memoir, published in 2010. US Weekly called it “explosive,” and E! Online described it as “brutally honest,” as she shares her journey through addiction and recovery. Stephen Huszar plays Det. John Cameron. We've discussed how much we really enjoy him in this dry, gruff detective role. As I looked through his resume, I saw that he has appeared in several Ruby Herring Mysteries. I wonder if those are worth checking out. Listeners, if you've seen these movies, weigh in! Paris Jefferson returns as Sadie Da Silva. Sherry Miller plays Irene/Ida. Sherry has 98 acting credits, having appeared in Family History Mysteries: Buried Past, Five More Minutes, as well as Shane's mom in Signed, Sealed, Delivered: The Vows We Have Made. Join us, Megan and Wendy, long-time Hallmark enthusiasts, as we dive into the world of Jane and her mysteries. What We Liked The Cast's Performances: Stephen Huszar as Detective John Cameron: Stephen brought a serious and business-like demeanor to his role, which suited the mystery genre better than his previous romantic leads. Jodie Sweetin as Jane DaSilva: Although we were not always convinced by her performance, she definitely found a niche in this series. We appreciated seeing her take on a more dramatic role. Paris Jefferson as Aunt Sadie: We absolutely loved Aunt Sadie's wardrobe and her quirky lines that gave the movie some light-hearted moments. The Initial Plot: The introduction of the suspects and the murder board added an intriguing layer to the mystery. The breakdown of their motives and the visual representation on the murder board was highly engaging. Jodi Sweetin's Singing: We were delightfully surprised by her singing voice, featured in both the opening and end credits of the movie. Are you an acting coach but can't find a community to guide you? Are you an acting educator who wants to update your teaching skills and knowledge?  In this week's episode, Actor/Painter/Teacher/Activist, Jennifer Wigmore would take us on a journey on how AACE was established to create a community amongst acting coaches and educators in Canada. AACE members share best practices and create standards for performers and workers in the entertainment industry. Together we can make acting training safer and  more empowering for everyone! In this episode: How an unfortunate casting experience evolved into Jennifer's green light to quit acting. How pursuing another artistic passion lead Jen to discover all creative endeavours are drawn from the same well. Just because you're a good actor doesn't mean you're a good teacher; sometimes your acting experience does not correlate into good teaching skills. The conversations about what we need to know as acting coaches and educators have changed so much that everyone needs to update their knowledge about how to create respect based classrooms and how not to hurt people. A little about Jennifer: Jennifer is a multidisciplinary artist in acting, writing, and visual art, and has worked for over twenty years as a professional artist. She has performed in theatre's across Canada including The Arts Club, Citadel Theatre, Tarragon Theatre, Theatre Center, Canadian Stage Company and the Stratford Festival. Jennifer has also appeared in numerous television series and films including; Dream Scenario, Christmas as the Drive In, The Winter Palace, Y: The Last Man, Malory Towers, Adult Adoption, Happy Place, Designated Survivor, Anne with an E, Impulse, Killjoys, Suits, Kart Racer, Little Men, and I Was a Sixth Grade Alien. She has just been cast as Chief April Anderson in the highly anticipated series Cross, based on James Pattersons novels, starring Aldis Hodge. She also narrated Todd Babiak's novel, The Spirits Up. She completed her BFA and MFA at OCAD University and continues to work as an acting coach and educator as well as a painting instructor. In addition to being a core member of the activist group Got Your Back, Jennifer is also a coordinator and steering committee member for AACE – The Association of Acting Coaches and Educators. Jennifer is also currently writing her first play called Measure Follow Jennifer! One of the signatures which differentiates filmmaker Lauren Wolkstein's work is adaptability through medium. Lauren's approach toward narrative and storytelling harbors a rare versatility, which allows her to nearly seamlessly transition from film to television; short to feature; thriller to drama; and dystopian commentary to historical narrative. She harnessed her talent and developed her ability as a screenwriter at Columbia's MFA program, and made short films, like Cigarette Candy, which pushed the boundaries of trauma exploration. Her debut feature, The Strange Ones (Alex Pettyfer; James Freedson-Jackson), which she co-directed with Christopher Radcliff, was based on the short film of the same name premiered at South by Southwest in 2017. One of John Waters's Top 3 films of 2017, the film, which dealt with themes like obsessive love, sexual abuse and trauma, spoke to her multifaceted ability to combine complex mental health themes with dynamic performances. In television, Lauren has directed episodes of Cloak & Dagger (Marvel); Dare Me (USA Network); and Y: The Last Man, starring Diane Lane, for FX. She directed the finale of the renowned mini-series, A Friend of the Family, starring Anna Paquin, Jake Lacy, Colin Hanks and McKenna Grace, for Peacock in 2022. And she recently directed episodes of Dead Ringers, a television adaptation of the David Cronenberg classic film of the same name, which is set to premiere on Amazon Prime on April 21, 2023; the series stars Rachel Weisz as twin gynecologists, reprising the Jeremy Irons role in the original film. In our conversation, we discussed the touchpoint we both share in being Columbia and Duke alums; growing up in Baltimore; shooting on film; mental health themes; and the continuity of serving as Producing Director on Queen Sugar for Oprah Winfrey's network for multiple seasons.Opening Credits: Ketsa - 10 Can-t-touch-me; Ketsa - 01 Test-Case; Closing Credits: Ketsa - 05 Eternal-Funk-Palace

He is the writer of such award-winning comic books and graphic novels as Saga, Y: The Last Man, Ex Machina and Paper Girls. ***Your generosity and support help to sustain the podcast and to keep it free, not behind a paywall and available to all listeners.*** Brian reflects on the return of Saga after an extended hiatus and the great and painful changes that have befallen the beloved characters in the series. He also shares how Saga and its main character Hazel have grown in parallel with his own life and family. Brian offers his thoughts and wisdom on navigating the challenging times in this world, artistic integrity, and managing life, stress, joy, and other emotions and ups and downs as someone who is creative for a living. In honor of Brother Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Chauncey highlights the differences between the real radical truth-teller and pro-democracy hope warrior Dr. King and how his legacy and struggle and sacrifice have been distorted by the American mythmaking machine and colorblind racism and white supremacy. There is also a bonus segment on this episode of the podcast in honor of Dr. King. Paul Breines was a student at the University of Wisconsin in Madison, Wisconsin and a member of the Student Council on Civil Rights when he was arrested for his participation in the Freedom Rides during the summer of 1961. He shares what it was like to challenge Jim Crow racial terrorism--with his life--as a Freedom Rider during the Civil Rights Movement, how he as a white person made the decision while in college to confront white supremacy, and the rules of living a principled life that he learned from his mother. On Episode 8 of X-Ray Vision, Jason Concepcion and Cody Ziglar have a latte with The Riddler! In Previously On…(2:56) Jason and Zig briefly discuss the release changes in upcoming Disney films and mourn the cancellation of FX on Hulu's Y: The Last Man. In the Airlock (13:44) Jason and Zig dive deep (deeeeep) into the trailers that emerged from this past weekend's DC FanDome, including The Batman, The Flash, HBOMax's Peacemaker and more. In The Omnibus (42:36), Jason continues his exploration of the ‘deadly games' genre to further analyze the economic and sociopolitical ideas behind Netflix's smash hit Squid Game. Next, writer & podcaster Dave Schilling drops by this week's Hive Mind (58:59) for an astute conversation around what makes HBO's Succession the best show on TV & why we love the Roys despite their awful behavior. Finally, in The Endgame (1:24:48) Jason and Zig play Top Fives for their ‘favorite' fictional billionaires. Use #XRVEndgame & tweet at Jason to let us know what you think of their choices! Batman ('89), Directed by Tim Burton and starring Michael Keaton in the titular role with Jack Nicholson turning in a hammily deranged performance as the Joker; the film's campy atmosphere and theatricality is both eye-catching and divergent from the gritty, more noir later Batman films of the 2000s. Available on HBOMax. Flashpoint, a 2011 crossover comics series, the bulk of which was written by Geoff Johns with art by Andy Kubert. As alluded to by Jason, this series radically shifted the landscape of the DC universe and led to the The New 52 reboot of DC's ongoing series. 1989: Bob Dylan Didn't Have This to Sing About, by prominent cultural theorist and poet Joshua Clover originally published in 2009, which analyzes the year 1989 in popular music and the outgrowths (such as rap, grunge, acid house, etc.) that emerged in the following decade. Clover is currently a Professor of English & Comparative Literature at UC Davis. Available on Bookshop.com. Peep Show, a British sit-com that ran from 2003 to 2015 and was written by Jesse Armstrong, among others. Following the lives of two best friends, the show, with its offbeat humor, unconventional POV filming style (hence the name ‘peep show'), and voiceover narration offering the internal monologue of the characters' thoughts, never achieved wide audiences but garnered critical acclaim across its run. FX on Hulu's take on comics series Y: The Last Man has finally made it to air -- and Taylor Cole has finally made it over from The Great American Pop Culture Quiz Show to talk about it with us! How is the show different from the comics? Can Diane Lane's hair still be a national treasure if her roots are a plot point? And does a certain Hero need to get written out of the story? We went Around The Dial with Frogger, Scenes From A Marriage, Miracle Workers, and 30 For 30's take on the '86 Mets before carefully selecting TV's smartest (and hottest) characters to get us Extra Credit at pub quiz. Taylor sent us a care package containing his Canon submission for Wet Hot American Summer: First Day Of Camp before Momoa won and copaganda lost. And Tara's non-regulation Game Time taught us all a lot. Make 90 minutes disappear Yorick-style by listening to an all-new Extra Hot Great! GUESTS
