We have landed the Waverider in the hanger bay of the Watchtower. It is time for Season 2 of Justice League! The galactic war between Darkseid's Apokolips and the Highfather's New Genesis is raging, and the Highfather's forces led by Orin, Darkseid's biological son, are winning. But that all changes when Brainiac arrives. Things are so bad Darkseid must ask his enemy, Superman, and the League for help. The League agrees over Superman's objections. They split up and Batman & Wonder Woman head to New Genesis looking for help. The League works with Apokolips and defeat Brainiac causing him to retreat. They follow him to his asteroid base, but it was a well laid trap. Brainiac and Darkseid work together to capture Superman. Brainiac wants to evolve and needs Superman's DNA to do it. But Darkseid uses the station to try and destroy New Genesis. Thankfully the League can stop him, except that Superman is bent on ending Darkseid. It takes Batman to get him away before the asteroid is destroyed.   Contact Information: If you want to join in the discussion, you can submit feedback via email to TomorrowsLegendsPodcast@gmail.com or at at https://www.speakpipe.com/TomorrowsLegends .

This extended version expands the political intrigue, moral complexity, and character development as Gotham's vigilante, Batman, clashes with Metropolis' alien savior, Superman, in a philosophical and physically explosive confrontation that sets the stage for the formation of the Justice League. Famous and highly searched moments include the “Knightmare” sequence, teases of Darkseid, Batman's brutal warehouse fight, Superman's Capitol Hill testimony, and the unforgettable line: “Why did you say that name?” The Ultimate Edition also restores key plotlines surrounding Lois Lane (Amy Adams), the Africa incident, and the broader conspiracy against Superman, adding depth and cohesion to Snyder's ambitious world-building. Discussion highlighted Michael Turner's art style, emphasizing the influence of early 2000s teenage fashion depicted in character designs. Hosts noted that the first issue could have been condensed significantly, criticizing its pacing and structure. Superman's omitted kryptonite quarantine subplot from the movie adaptation raised concerns about character depth. Tim Daly and Kevin Conroy received praise for reprising their iconic roles, while mixed reviews were given to Ed Asner and Andre Brauer's performances. A debate on Wonder Woman's training methods questioned the conflict resolution techniques used within the storyline. Criticism arose over the implausibility of Batman defeating a Doomsday clone in the action sequences, situating him against a powerful foe. The significance of Superman's kryptonite ring was analyzed, noting its implications on comic book continuity. The final Darkseid battle was deemed as unnecessary padding, detracting from the story's overall quality. Overall assessment categorized the comic as "mid" quality, recommending it over the movie for improved pacing and dialogue.   Notes ️ Opening & Introduction (00:00 - 11:18) Podcast introduction and guest welcome from Night of the Batman podcast Discussion of second major Superman Batman story arc following their previous crossover episode on Public Enemies Case's initial criticism of the comic's decompressed storytelling, comparing it unfavorably to the earlier 'Many Happy Returns' Supergirl story that came out 1.5 years prior Analysis of Jeph Loeb's writing style and tendency to retell existing stories, with comparison to Long Halloween vs. Eye of the Beholder Art Style & Character Design Discussion (06:02 - 22:24) Michael Turner's artwork analysis, particularly his portrayal of Supergirl and the male gaze perspective in character design Debate over teenage fashion authenticity in early 2000s, with specific mention of Degrassi character Manny's influence on style choices Case's personal reflection on aging out of the target demographic at 22-23 years old when the comic was released Discussion of Batman's visual design and 'toyetic' appeal of his various gear throughout the story Story Structure & Pacing Analysis (15:32 - 33:23) Critique of first issue's extreme decompression - could have been condensed to 5 pages according to hosts Analysis of Superman's quarantine subplot from kryptonite exposure, which was omitted from the movie adaptation Discussion of Batman's characterization and his collection of various colored kryptonite Comparison of Supergirl's introduction sequence between comic and movie versions Character Development & Voice Acting (33:23 - 44:32) Praise for Tim Daly and Kevin Conroy reprising their animated series roles in the movie Mixed reactions to Ed Asner as Granny Goodness and criticism of Andre Brauer's rushed Darkseid performance Analysis of Krypto's characterization as more aggressive than traditional versions Discussion of Superman's uncharacteristically irrational behavior throughout the story ️ Plot Development & Action Sequences (44:32 - 01:06:47) Wonder Woman and Amazons' training approach debate, including the problematic conflict resolution method Analysis of the Doomsday army sequence and its implausibility - criticism of Batman defeating a Doomsday clone Discussion of Big Barda's introduction and her height representation differences between comic and movie Trinity argument analysis, particularly Superman's inappropriate Jason Todd/Donna Troy comment Apocalypse Arc & Final Battle (01:06:48 - 01:18:02) Female Furies fight sequence comparison between mediums Batman's confrontation with Darkseid using hellspore threat as leverage Analysis of Superman's kryptonite ring usage and its comic book continuity Critique of final Darkseid battle as unnecessary padding for story length Discussion of ending differences between comic (heroic sacrifice) vs. movie (extended fight) Final Analysis & Recommendations (01:18:02 - 01:24:29) Overall assessment: story is 'mid' quality, overly decompressed for the content Recommendation to read comic over watching movie due to better pacing and dialogue Acknowledgment that 4 issues would have been optimal length instead of 6 Recognition of story's influence on modern Supergirl characterization going forward

Holy Kryptonian catastrophe, comic crusaders! This week on Play Comics, we're diving headfirst into the digital dumpster fire that is Superman: Countdown to Apokolips for the Game Boy Advance – because apparently someone thought the best way to honor Superman: The Animated Series was to trap the Man of Steel in a tiny screen prison with graphics that make MS Paint look like the Sistine Chapel. Released in 2003 by the brave souls at Mistic Software (after poor Crawfish Interactive literally died during development – talk about your occupational hazards!), this isometric adventure promised to let players soar through Metropolis while battling Livewire, Metallo, and the fashion disaster known as Kalibak. What it actually delivered was a gaming experience so punishing that even Darkseid would file a complaint with customer service. Joining us for this digital descent into madness is Adam Maresh from my local shop back when he lived by me – a man who's seen more comic-to-game adaptations crash and burn than a rejected Justice League movie pitch. Together, we'll explore how this GBA “gem” managed to score a whopping 45% on GameRankings and somehow convinced IGN to give it a 4.5/10 (which in retrospect feels generous). So grab your emergency kryptonite antidote and prepare for an episode that's more fun than actually playing the game – which, let's face it, isn't exactly setting the bar stratospheric. Will Superman's portable adventure redeem itself through sheer nostalgic charm, or will it crash harder than a Daily Planet exclusive? Tune in to find out if this animated series tie-in belongs in the Fortress of Solitude… or the Phantom Zone! Learn such things as: Should we get Golden Age Superman back? What powers do you give the man who could have anything? Where's Krypto? I want Krypto! Everyone is always talking about Krypto. And so much more! You can find Adam at a place that even I technically don't know the location of. For a long time, I was worried that I had burned myself out of my love of superhero comics. Nothing was making me excited to just talk about DC Comics, specifically like it did when I was growing up. My brother and I have been talking about these characters our whole lives as a site/podcast for years now. So, losing that spark was weighing on me, but recently, that spark was reignited with such a fire that burns harder than ever. The reason is the Absolute Universe. I don't think I am the only one either because the conversation about these books all over the place is overwhelmingly positive and upbeat in every space I see. People are just having fun reading these books and talking about them. I was lucky enough to sit down with Scott Snyder for the first time to talk about the Absolute Universe. We started our conversation out by talking about a touchstone for both of us which is horror. Snyder got his start and cut his teeth in the horror world, and it's something he has never left, even with Absolute Batman. But we quickly switch to the Absolute universe and it's conception. We get into all the facets of the universe to it's birth, conception, what's to come, and more. Scott talks about how he ended up on Batman and his reluctance to even write the book, which comes as a shock if you have read the book. Scott Snyder reveals his one non-negotiable for this book, which ended up being what made this version of Batman so impactful as a modern version of Batman. Scott also reveals a LOT about Darkseid since the events of the events of DC ALL IN. Be sure to check it out if you want to know how the Absolute books came to be and what the universe is all about or what the goal of the books are!

This December, these investigators of the weird make their DC All In debut with the new Challengers of the Unknown, a five-issue limited series written by Christopher Cantwell (Plastic Man No More!) with art by Sean Izaakse (Green Arrow). Spinning out of Absolute Power and the DC All In Special, the terror of the Darkseid shock wave has cascaded across the DC Universe…tearing open the very fabric of time and space itself! Only one band of super-scientists have the right stuff to challenge the fate of a universe: the Challengers of the Unknown. Ace Morgan, June Robbins, Prof Haley, Red Ryan, and Rocky Davis, adventurers “living on borrowed time,” run day-to-day operations for the Justice League's Watchtower base in orbit above Earth, collaborating with Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, and the rest of the League to seal the rifts that threaten the galaxy. But a mysterious foe from the Challengers' past lurks in the shadows, and its connection to the Darkseid wave will put not only the Challengers, but all of the DC Universe on borrowed time. Plastic Man No More From the publisher Eel O'Brian might be a superhero now—but before he was anything else, he was a crook. Until the accident that turned him into the pliable Plastic Man, Eel was bad to the bone…and just because he no longer has bones doesn't mean that's not still true. When an incident on a Justice League mission leads to catastrophic cellular damage, Plastic Man discovers he just might be out of time to make amends for the past he's tried hard to outrun—or to save the soul of his son, who (unfortunately for him) might have inherited more from dear old Dad than just his superpowers. The Comic Source Podcast

Jace chats with wrtier Ram V about his upcoming title for DC Comics, The New Gods. In the aftermath of the seeming death of Darkseid is it time for the New Gods to be replaced and usher in a new generation of Gods? Will Highfather allow this generation of gods to be swept aside? Has the first of a new generation of gods already been born on earth? So many questions are raised on the first issue of the epic story from Ram V. Following on the heels of the DC All In Special, Ram teases is that the New Gods title will be the place to find the answers, plus this story will explain how the Absolute Universe connects to the main universe ... eventually. In the meantime, expect a ton of action, plenty of family drama, as brother vs brother is teased in this first issue with Scott Free and Orion, seemingly destined to be on opposing sides as the action ramps up. When you add in the incredible interiors Evan Cagle is doing and you have, what feels like, a sure-fire hit.

Ram V on Jack Kirby and The New Gods

This year's San Diego Comic-Con brought a lot of news. Possibly the most surprising and easily the most exciting was DC's announcement that The New Gods were coming back to comic shops and that their latest saga would be steered by writer Ram V and artist Evan Cagle. While these characters loom large over the DC universe, they've rarely carried a solo book for any significant amount of time. One reason for that might be that they're such pure Jack Kirby creations, and following in the King's footsteps is more than a challenge. If anyone is up for such a task, it's Ram V. The writer's first work within DC was on Swamp Thing, and he easily proved he could step into a beloved property and add a little of himself to it. He recognizes fans' preciousness toward Jack Kirby's Fourth World, but he equally understands how The New Gods could speak very much to the moment. We met with Ram V atop the DC booth on Saturday at San Diego Comic-Con. We begin our conversation with our love for all things Kirby and move toward parenthood, specifically fatherhood, and how it will thematically propel his take on The New Gods. What has Scott Free learned from his two dads, Darkseid and Highfather? The New Gods will land in comic book shops in December, but make sure you catch up on the cosmic imbalance that launches their story by picking up The All In Special on October 2nd.
