DCOCD is the DC Comics events podcast, where we look at every DC event in chronological order from Crisis on Infinite Earths to... we're not quite sure yet. The assassination of Ra's al Ghul puts Deathstroke and Talia on a collision course, but are they just pawns in someone else's game? Yes, yes they are. Paul is joined by two stalwarts of the Wright On Network podcast channel, AJ WRIGHT and TIM PRICE to discuss, critique, praise and ultimately rate and rank this event. This event is led by JOSHUA WILLIAMSON, VICTOR BOGDANOVIC, MIKE HENDERSON, HOWARD PORTER, TREVOR HAIRSINE, PAOLO PANTALENA, ROGER CRUZ, NORM RAPMUND, OTTO SCHMIDT, JON BOY MYERS and many others. Before Josef Stalin's death in 1953, the USSR had, at best, an ambivalent relationship with noncommunist international organisations. Although it had helped found the United Nations, it refused to join the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and other major agencies beyond the Security Council and General Assembly, casting them as foreign meddlers. Under new leadership, the USSR joined UNESCO and a slew of international organisations for the first time, including the World Health Organization and the International Labor Organization. As a result, it enabled Soviet diplomats, scholars, teachers, and even some blue-collar workers to participate in global discussions on topics ranging from their professional specialties to worldwide problems. Reds in Blue: UNESCO, World Governance, and the Soviet Internationalist Imagination (Oxford University Press, 2023) by Dr. Louis Porter investigates Soviet relations with one of the most prominent of these organisations, UNESCO, to present a novel way of thinking about the role of the United Nations in the Soviet experience of the Cold War. Drawing on unused archival material from the former USSR and elsewhere, the book examines the forgotten stories of Soviet citizens who contributed to the nuts-and-bolts operations and lesser-known activities of world governance. These unexamined dimensions of everyday participation in the UN's bureaucracy, conferences, publications, and technical assistance show the body's importance for a group of Soviet "one-worlders," who used the UN to imagine and work for a better world amidst the realities of the Cold War. Meanwhile, the Khrushchev and early Brezhnev governments sought to use their participation as a means of spreading Soviet influence within Western-dominated international organisations but discovered that this required risk-taking and a degree of openness for which the Soviet leadership and domestic institutions were often unprepared. Moving beyond debates over the successes and failures of UN diplomatic activities, Reds in Blue offers fresh perspectives on how Soviet citizens became citizens of the world and advocated for opening up Soviet society in ways that transcended Cold War categories without abandoning a sense of loyalty to their homeland. In doing so, it recaptures a space where East and West worked together towards a future without international conflict in the years before détente. This interview was conducted by Dr. Miranda Melcher whose forthcoming book focuses on post-conflict military integration, understanding treaty negotiation and implementation in civil war contexts, with qualitative analysis of the Angolan and Mozambican civil wars. Have you let God be an active partner in your life? In this episode, Jeff and Howard discuss: Building a partnership or company with friends in a healthy way. Professional challenges Howard faced in building and growing GK9PG. Confidently and openly keeping God in your business. Giving in areas that are meaningful to you. Key Takeaways: You have to differentiate between the investment in the business and the work of the business when building your business. Sometimes what looks to be the worst situation, is opening the doors for a bigger and better opportunity. Give in ways that make sense to you and to causes that you feel for. If it is important to you, it is important to God and His Kingdom. Look for mentors for yourself, and be willing to mentor those who are coming along after you. "The best experience, and the least expensive experience, you can get is from somebody who's been through something similar. Having somebody that can help you walk through it, and go through that analysis, looking at the pros and cons, it's invaluable." — Howard Porter About Howard Porter: Howard J. Porter, Jr. has been involved in various aspects of the real state business since 1972. Following graduation from Auburn University he was actively involved as Founder and President of Porter Associates / Southeast, a regional real estate appraisal company with offices in Birmingham, Montgomery, Auburn and Columbus, GA. He was founder of Porter Properties in Auburn, AL in 1986 and remains actively involved in development, acquisition and leasing of industrial properties. He was co-founder and from 1995 through 1998, a principal in Summit Asset Management (merged into BSR Trust) a developer of tax credit apartments, senior living and assisted living facilities in AL and GA. In 1998, he and Tom Hunt founded The Hotel Group (now PHD Hotels), a hotel development and management firm headquartered in Auburn and active in Alabama, Mississippi and Georgia. PHD was active in development, acquisition and management of Hilton flagged properties and was named “Multi-Brand Developer of the Year” in 2005 by Hilton Hotels. In 2009, he and Mark Traylor founded Traylor-Porter Health Care, Inc. to acquire and manage skilled nursing facilities and have more recently become involved with more diverse health care related enterprises. In 2016, he and Eric Hare founded Global K9 Protection Group to procure and train service and working dogs for various end-users. GK9PG now has a commanding market share in US air cargo screening keeping explosives off airplanes. He served as CFO and Board Chair until a majority interest sale in 2022 and continues as an Advisory Board member.Utilizing the variety of experiences gained, he is actively involved as an angel investor with interests in numerous business entities and serves as mentor to a number of younger businessmen in the Auburn area. He is an Eagle Scout and received an honorable discharge from the AL Army National Guard – 20th Special Forces. He is married to the former Katherine Qualls and lives in Auburn, AL. He has 3 children and 7 grandchildren. The family enjoys time spent on the farm and on the water at Lake Martin. He worships and serves at Grace Auburn Church, Auburn, AL. Horror is invading the DC Universe this summer with the publishing event, Knight Terrors, and comic book writer Josh Williamson is the dream master who is telling us about the supernatural series… Comic book writer Joshua Williamson's current project is a nightmare, but it's also a dream come true because he is injecting horror into DC Comics with Knight Terrors, the comic book publishing event that kicks off with the oversize special Knight Terrors: First Blood #1 on July 4 with art by Howard Porter. The main Knight Terrors story will take place over four issues written by Williamson with art by Giuseppe Camuncoli beginning with Knight Terrors #1 on July 11. Knight Terrors revolves around a new villain named Insomnia who has plunged the entire world into a realm of their own deeply personal nightmares. Meanwhile Boston Brand, aka Deadman, becomes the unlikely hero who, along with the help of Batman, and Batman's body, is on the case to figure out who Insomnia is. The line-wide event has also included two-issue miniseries spotlighting a Super Hero or Super-Villain confronting their worst nightmares in a Nightmare Realm. So readers will get to delve into the nightmares of Batman, Superman, Joker, Harley Quinn, Catwoman, Poison Ivy and more. _______________________________________________________________ Talking Strange Paranormal Podcast with Aaron Sagers is a weekly paranormal pop culture show featuring celebrity and author interviews, with a weekly "Small Talk" mini-sode with reader submitted letters and spooky tales.
