Jace and Rocky break down all 13 DC releases for the week of August 19, 2026. Dark Knights of Steel #2 finds Amanda Waller's machinations continuing as an illness threatens Kara and the House of El, while Barbara Gordon serves as a literal Oracle and the developing relationship between Kal-El and Lois adds another layer to Tom Taylor's expanding fantasy world. Lobo #6 sends Lobo to Hell to battle the Tooth Fairy in an intentionally ridiculous detour, but the issue feels disconnected from the characters and plot threads Scotty Young had carried forward from the previous arc, making the story feel unusually disposable. End of Life #7 sees Eddie's attempt to do something genuinely good by rescuing a kidnapped kid land him in the hands of the killers hunting him, and after escaping another brutal beating he discovers Little Cock has finally caught up with him looking for revenge over the death of Big Cock. Beneath all the absurd violence and comedy, Eddie's relationship with his dying father continues to give the series a surprisingly human core. Deathstroke the Terminator #6 escalates Adeline's revenge from murdering Wintergreen to trying to kill Rose, forcing an already battered Slade into a confrontation with his ex-wife. Slade survives, but the real damage is psychological: stripped of his identity as the world's greatest assassin, he is left wondering what remains if he is no longer a "killer for hire" and is simply a killer. Catwoman #90 finally gives Maggie Kyle the chance to confront Black Mask and use a nerve agent against the man who murdered her husband and traumatized her, but what should have been a powerful moment of Maggie reclaiming her agency feels frustratingly abrupt and underdeveloped. The conclusion also leaves the fates of Black Mask and Katarina Belova open while Carmine Falcone remains firmly embedded in Selina's increasingly complicated family story. New Titans #38 brings Static to Titans Mountain while he struggles to control his powers, Yara Flor begins experiencing visions of her Amazonian homeland and Stephanie Brown continues growing into a leadership role. There are plenty of potentially interesting threads, but with so many characters competing for space, the issue feels disjointed and several of the Titans come across as noticeably younger and less experienced than their recent portrayals. Batman/Superman: World's Finest #54 drags Batman, Superman and their fellow heroes into Hell for a baseball game against its denizens in a deliberately absurd one-and-done that recalls DC's old Super-Sports stories. Mark Waid makes the ridiculous premise work, although for an actual baseball story, Jace wanted considerably more baseball. Absolute Flash #18 keeps expanding Wally's world as Absolute Hunter Zolomon, Director Bones and Eleanor Thawne all enter the picture, while Eleanor genuinely believes the Absolute Justice League are the good guys. Ralph Dibny may also have just experienced the event that gives him his powers, setting up a potentially wild confrontation between Wally, Abra Kadabra and Hunter Zolomon. Batwoman #6 flashes back through most of its story to events before the series began, clarifying how Kate and Beth reached the point where their stories diverged, before the final pages return to the present after Kate has rescued her sister. The added context helps explain some of the confusion from the first five issues, although ending with both sisters seeing the same psychiatrist still leaves the series in an unusual place moving forward. Absolute Green Arrow #4 provides more context for Absolute Oliver Queen's values and creates a stark contrast with Hector Hammond's depravity, while a terrifying Absolute Solomon Grundy enters the picture and Dinah Lance appears increasingly close to manifesting powers of her own. The lingering question remains whether the mysterious Green Arrow can actually be Oliver at all when Hammond claims Oliver Queen died and attempts to resurrect him failed. Nightwing #131 has Dick preparing to turn himself in over the catastrophic bridge accident no one believes was caused by a witch, only for another woman to suddenly confess to being the witch herself. That apparent manipulation deepens the supernatural mystery as events from Blüdhaven's past continue reaching into the present and Nightwing remains caught in the middle. Wonder Woman #36 continues Steve Trevor's telling of the story of the woman he loves to his daughter as Stephanie Williams retells Diana's origin with strong Clayton Henry artwork. There is little here that substantially changes the familiar story, but framing it through Steve sharing Diana's history with a daughter who is equal parts Steve and Diana gives the retelling some added emotional resonance. Finally, Superman Unlimited #16 pushes the Kingdom of Zod event forward at full speed as the Superman family rallies against Zod, including the first meeting between Mark Waid's current Superboy and Supergirl. Superman and Zod eventually suit up for a battle that is still raging when the issue ends, making this chapter feel less like a self-contained story and more like one sustained piece of a much larger action sequence. Batwoman #5 has Kate Kane rescue Alice by removing her mask and reaching her sister directly, while Mother Despina warns that winning may still mean losing. Lobo #5 has the network ordered to bring Lobo back, only for the executive to put a contract on him and send Lip Bomb after the Main Man. Catwoman #89 pushes Selina deeper into her Gotham war with Black Mask while bringing her connection to Carmine Falcone closer to outright confirmation. Superman Unlimited #15 builds on the Ultra Boy reveal by showing Jon Kent's faith in him pay off, while Superwoman's arrival keeps the Earth-3 story from ending cleanly. Absolute Green Arrow #3 shifts further into Black Canary's investigation as the issue reveals Miraclo, Rex Tyler and anti-aging experiments tied to the billionaires being targeted. A trailer for the Paul Bettany led spinoff was also shown to media buyers and advertisers and reportedly featured a look at James Spader's return as Ultron. This exciting update comes on the heels of Daredevil: Born Again's Season 2 finale and the release of the Punisher special presentation; with all eyes on the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day and, of course, Avengers: Doomsday,Disney's Tuesday presentation also shed some light on Lucasfilm's streaming future with Ahsoka Season 2 promised for an early 2027 release window on Disney Plus, more than 3 years after Season 1 streamed in 2023. Rosario Dawson took the stage where she teased, “This season, the battles are bigger and the stakes are higher.” Ahsoka creator and Lucasfilm co-head Dave Filoni backed Dawson's comments while featured in a sneak peek of the upcoming season.It's been a while since we discussed DC's Deathstroke & Bane team up feature with details remaining sparse since it was first announced in September; now Deadline is reporting that according to its sources not only is the film still in development, but multiple directors including Greg Mottola as a frontrunner are in talks to helm it. Mottola is no stranger to the DCU or James Gunn, having directed episodes of Peacemaker. While DC has yet to comment, Moon Knight writer Matthew Orton reportedly wrote the initial screenplay for the villain duo team-up and is set to do a rewrite if Mottola does end up being the choice. In other DCU news, Friday Night Lights actor Sinqua Walls has joined the cast of Man of Tomorrow in an undisclosed role. Deadpool and Wolverine director Shawn Levy is now attached to direct an original sci fi film written by Max Taxe titled Somewhere Out There for Netflix. New release Mortal Kombat 2 came in third place at the box office this weekend, behind The Devil Wears Prada 2 and Michael. Globally, The Devil Wears Prada 2 has crossed $400 million dollars and Michael has crossed $500 million dollars. Mortal Kombat 2 earned a worldwide box office total of $63 million dollars with only $23 million of that total made overseas. NBCUniversal has confirmed that a live-action Fast and the Furious series is in development. Vin Diesel, who will serve as a producer, announced the project, which is set up at Peacock, on stage at the NBCUniversal upfront presentation Monday morning. Florence Pugh is set to star in and produce fantasy drama The Midnight Library, which will be directed by Garth Davis. The Midnight Library is based on a novel of the same name by Matt Haig.Conan O'Brien will return to host the Oscars in 2027 which will make his third consecutive year as the host of the ceremony.Breaking Bad star Aaron Paul has joined the cast of season 3 of Prime Video's Fallout. After bringing Michael Crichton‘s theme park vision to the screen scripting 1993's Jurassic Park and two sequels, screenwriter David Koepp is looking to tackle another one. Deadline hears Koepp will revisit Westworld, the 1973 film written and directed by Crichton. A major unnamed director is also circling the project for Warner Brothers.

This week, we review the new comics released on April 15th, 2026! Including Absolute Batman 19, Fire born 1, Deathstroke the Terminator 2, Venom 257, Invincible Universe Battle Beast 8, GI Joe 21, The HAB 1, and many more! What are your favorites?

Jace and Rocky break down the DC releases for the week of April 15, 2026. Lobo #2 is discussed as a surprise standout with its corporate bounty hunter premise, meta humor, and unexpected fun factor, while Deathstroke the Terminator #2 follows Slade Wilson through an extremely violent and grief-driven search for whoever is manipulating him after Wintergreen's death. Superman Unlimited #12 centers on the return of a younger Jon Kent, the sacrifice being made by the older Jon Kent as Tomorrow Man, Lois being brought to tears by seeing Jon again, Damian's suspicion that something is wrong, and the possibility that the returned Jon may not actually be the real younger Jon. Nightwing #137 focuses on the sniper situation on the Blüdhaven bridge and the contrast between Batman and Nightwing's approaches, while Batwoman #2 features Kate Kane in a brutal confrontation that appears to end with her using lethal force to save her father. New Titans #34 reveals Cyborg split into separate human and cybernetic entities, Catwoman #84 continues Selina Kyle's conflict with Black Mask and Katarina Beloff as her inner circle is targeted, End of Life #3 blends absurd humor, strong action, and emotional material with Eddie Stallion caring for his dying father, Wonder Woman #21 continues the Wonder War storyline with its possible-future setup and split narrative structure, and Absolute Batman #19 is discussed in terms of its shock-value storytelling, Scarecrow's appearance feeling more like future setup, and a major character death that lands as wasteful rather than earned. As always, the episode also includes the week's rankings, Book of the Week discussion, and a rundown of the reprints and collected editions.
