We start the show off talking about all things geek, like every week – comics, books, wrestling, action figures and more... And throughout… we kind of get off topic. This week, Josh has willed more McFarlane DC figures into existence! (It's been like 2 years now without an error???) (00:00:00) The Geek Matrix reviews DC's Weekly Comics Releases This week, that's: (01:04:13) #AbsolutePowerSuperSon 1 (01:20:27) #WonderWoman 13 (01:29:35) #Superman 18 (01:48:20) #Catwoman 68 (02:05:00) New McFarlane Figures! (02:14:30) #BatmanSupermanWorldsFinest 31 Plus our Honorable Mentions covered each week by Josh! Here's the run down – Jenny Sparks #2 - I can't say anything else about this book except I hate it. Like, with a passion. And that's because King turned Captain Atom into an arrogant evil wannabe Dr Manhattan, quite literally he just wants to be a god… this is beyond stupid. Can barely even consider the art. King shits ALL OVER the characters he writes. He sucks and he knows it and great art can't save it. Nothing redeemable. 3/10. John Constantine, Hellblazer: Dead in America #9 - This is the grimiest magic-based noir that I've ever read and it's absolutely great. A while lot goes sideways, and Constantine is getting a bit closer… and… the art fits the book so well. And also? This is weird, but Arron Campbell drew a dress on Clarice that may be the prettiest piece of clothing that I have ever seen on a comic book character. 8.25/10 Dark Knights of Steel: Allwinter #3 - I didn't expect to go into this liking it more than the original. I'm not there quite yet, but I am getting damn close. And the occasional explosive use of color in this book makes it all even more gorgeous. 8/10 Batman - The Long Halloween - The Last Halloween #1 - Catwoman, Gilda, Two-Face. Calendar Man, Jim Gordon, Batman and Robin all pick up where the last installment left off. This was a really fun read for me. I thought it odd at first that the Long Halloween was being expanded upon, but now? Give me the next 9 issues. 7.75/10 Multiversus - Collision Detection #1 - The only thing that I knew to expect from this one is that it's a video game tie-in. What I didn't expect was it to be so fun for my 8-year-old to read. He loved it and gives it a 4/5 (he won't judge on 1-10 no matter how many times I ask). Joker The World - With an all star cast of writers, artists, colorists, and letterers, going in, you have to know that at least some of this has got to be good, right? Well, it's a whole bunch of non-connected Joker stories. Some art is great. Some is fantastic, some I'm not a fan of but it fits the story so very well. I don't quite understand it, normally, I wouldn't like this kind of thing. But Joker The World was really good. And there's a Joker the World Free Batman Day Special Edition that might still be at your Local Comic Shop if you'd like a preview to all of them. For the book? It gets 7.5/10 Batman Day 2024: Batman / Elmer Fudd Special #1 - This was a way better story than it deserved to be. Way better. I really enjoyed it. We didn't need the backup at all in this book, but it wasa fun quick read as well. I am very pleasantly surprised. 8/10 Batman - Elmer Fudd Special Noir Edition #1 - See above, but in black and white. There's also a whole bunch of facsimile editions - Crisis on infinite earths, Detective 27, variants and foils, etc. so go check those out as well. #DCAllIn #ComicsAreForEveryone #ComicsAreGreat #MakeComicsGreatAgain #AbsolutePower #DCComics #comics #comicbooks #GeekMatrix #TheGeekMatrix #TGM #GeekMatrixPod --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/thegeekmatrixcomics/support

BATMAN SAYS "NO GIRLS ALLOWED!" The Long Halloween by Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale is considered to be one of the best Batman stories of all-time, with many citing how it not only streamlined the origin of villains like Two-Face, but told a perfect story of the fall of the mob and the rise of the supervillains in Gotham. Making an animated film (or in this case, films) adapting it in full seemed like a no-brainer, especially in regards to streamlining certain aspects. However, this is the Tomorrowverse, so there is no way it's going to go well. Come join Brian and Alec as they continue the TOMORROWTHON with the one-step-forward-two-steps-back adaptation of the bunch, BATMAN: THE LONG HALLOWEEN PART I & II!

There's arguably no superhero in existence that has been reimagined, redefined, or reinterpreted more than Batman.  No matter how many times he's been rebooted, audiences are always willing to come back to Gotham City's greatest defender.  With so much Bat content out there, there's plenty to dissect, analyze, and of course, rank!  This podcast is dedicated to a surgical evaluation of Batman's history, with a focus on ranking several topics in the world of Batman, among other classic Bat themes and characters. Join host Daniel Cohen, Pop Break's former Film Editor and Resident Bat-Maven, as he brings on several guests every month to share his passion for the one and only Dark Knight.  From Adam West to Robert Pattinson, no bat stone will be left unturned.  Bottom-line: If you're a Batman fan, this is required listening. It seems like only yesterday the Batman by the Numbers crew was arguing over which was better; Batman & Robin or BvS.  That was our very first episode, as we ranked all the Batman movies.  That was two years ago.  And just like the Batman franchise, we're still going strong! Welcome to our big TWO-YEAR ANNIVERSARY episode!  And boy, do we have a big one.  Even Two-Face would approve.  In the spirit of Fantasy Football draft season, Daniel wanted to combine his two favorite hobbies; Batman and Drafting. That's right.  We did the DEFINITIVE BATMAN DRAFT!  Daniel is joined by his first two co-hosts from the pilot episode, Podcast Director of the Pop Break, Alex Marcus, and Pop Break Editor-in-Chief Bill Bodkin to draft the Definitive Batman team.  But what fun is a draft with only three people??  Daniel moved some of the batmobiles, bat planes, and bat boats to make room in the Batcave for five other all-star guests!  Making a return to the podcast, we have Perry Constantine (from the Long Halloween episode), DJ Chapman (from the epic Nolan rankings episode and infamous Batman Trailer Rankings episode), and Aaron Sarnecky (The Dark Knight 15th Anniversary episode). Also, making their Batman by the Numbers debuts, and throwing them right into the fire on this big episode, we have Randy Allain and Kris Ingersoll, both of the Media/Lit podcast! So, what is the Definitive Batman Draft?  Well, we don't want to give everything away, but the crew will essentially draft 10 categories; Film.  Batman Actor.  Comic Story.  TV Series.  Bat Family member.  Two villains.  Bat Song.  Best Scene from a Batman movie.  And…a wild card category!  What is the wild card category?  Well, you'll have to listen to find out. With all these eclectic categories, it's no doubt this is the DEFINITIVE BATMAN DRAFT!  And if you're worried it's just going to be a flurry of Dark Knight picks, don't worry – we've created some special rules for some of these categories to make the draft more challenging and interesting! We thank you for listening to this podcast for two years, and we hope you have as much fun listening to this episode as we did recording it! And if for nothing else, it's worth listening to as Daniel gets a pick stolen from him towards the end of the draft and has an emotional breakdown, so there you go.

Including the aforementioned League of Legends/“Briar” role, Nathanson's video game credits are spotlighted by her recently-released NPC companion Marika Boros in Bethesda Game Studios' Starfield, and long-running gig as “Samantha Maxis” in the Call of Duty franchise – most recently in Call of Duty: Cold War. In the animation world, Nathanson is well-known for her performances as “Crimson Widow” in Marvel's Avengers; “Gilda Dent” and “Silver Banshee” in the DC Universe Movies Batman: The Long Halloween and Suicide Squad: Hell to Pay, respectively, and “Rosalie Rowan” in The Zeta Project. In this episode, Nathanson explains the differences between video game acting and standard animation. She also discussed her early roles in The Zeta Project and the 2003 Spider-Man MTV Series. This is her second appearance on the podcast, having come on Episode 245 to discuss her Long Halloween role of Gilda Dent. Follow Julie on social media @Julie_Nathanson.

notes on a recording:  All the way back in episode 0045, titled "Music to my Ears" I talked with Derek Richmond from the band DROPOUTS for the first time. Well, he's back and top of that DROPOUTS have a new album, Off the Leash (2022), that is now available on Spotify. What's really cool about this album is that they used a different lead guitarist for each of their songs. How cool is that! Derek also shares his inspiration behind their album cover.  In this week's bonus episode we get into a ton of stuff. Not only does Derek come by to talk about his three favorite films of the year (All Quiet on the Western Front, The Batman, and Banshees of Inisherin) but he shares a story about his time at Pretty Bird and DANIELS (Daniel Kwan, Daniel Scheinert). We begin our episode talking about the director duo, hot off 11 Academy Award nominations for their film "Everything Everywhere All At Once." This leads us to Derek's top 3, and in no particular ranking. I haven't talked about Edward Burger's All Quiet on the Western Front on the show yet. I watched it recently and was deeply moved and disturbed about the content of human callousness. It is a beautifully shot, gruesome and de-moralizing World War 1 epic that reminds me of a cross between "1917" and "Saving Private Ryan." This is a German film that can be found on Netflix. Next up, we talk another film that I haven't talked much about on the show, "The Batman." A film just as dark and gritty as the aforementioned WWI film, this was one of the best adaptations of the character I have ever seen. It reminded me a lot of the golden age of Batman comics in the late 80s, early 90s. I find out in this episode, that Derek collects comic books, so I see how he comes to appreciate the Matt Reeves film from a comics perspective and with an understanding of Batman as a detective. This film really captures the feel of some of the darker stories like Jeph Loeb's "The Long Halloween" and Frank Miller's Batman Year One. This one is also on HBO MAX. His last film in the top 3, "Banshees of Inisherin," which has made most of my guests top films of the year lists. If you haven't seen this film about the end of a friendship, hop on over to HBO MAX, because this film is seriously good despite it's deceptively simple premise. Of course, we shoutout the great performances from Colin Farrell, Brendan Gleason, Barry Keoghan, and Kerry Condon-- these performances alone is reason enough to watch Martin McDonagh's well-written tale.  And lastly, before the show's wrap up Derek gets into some honorable mentions (and one dishonorable mention) that include: Dio: Dreamers Never Die, Everything Everywhere All At Once, The Northman, Hustle, and Emily the Criminal. Definitely, take a listen to this episode to get our full thoughts on and all these films! Now: off to the next film!  Dial F for Film is a podcast about the love of movies and host's -- J. Carlos Menjivar -- attempt to watch 1001 movies before he dies. A lover of lists and film, Carlos is a firm believer that all film lists should be tackled with one goal in mind: completion. Steven Jay Schneider's "1001 Movies You Must See Before You Die" is the subject of this podcast. Each episode features one guest and five movies from the massive list, compiled into themed lists by the host. Guests each week will select one category without any prior knowledge as to what films are included. Once a category is chosen, Carlos reveals the five films and the viewing begins. The guests then come on Dial F for Film via Zoom and the discussion begins.

We're onto part two of one of the best Batman movies that have been made in some time!! It's spooky season, but while this may not be the most spooky thing that you could watch for Halloween, it's definitely worth the watch for sure!! "Batman suspects that a former ally might be the serial killer. The killer known as Holiday continues to stalk the Falcone crime family while a new class of costumed criminal rises in Gotham City. Batman suspects that a former ally might be the serial killer." What do you do when you suspect one of your really good friends is also a serial killer, and going insane? The answer to that question might actually surprise you, but this Batman has to answer. The ending will definitely come as a surprise as well, but in the middle of it all, you get a REALLY good Batman story that tells a great narrative, but also looks really good! Come on, who isn't game for a good Batman story! Of course, the caveat is that it has to be "good." There have been many Batman stories, and they have all had their shares of ups and downs, but it seems as though nobody is arguing about whether The Long Halloween has its downs at all! So, we are talking about the first part of this Batman movie!! "During the holidays, a brutal series of murders strike fear into the city of Gotham. Batman sets out to pursue the serial killer with the support of police officer James Gordon and district attorney Harvey Dent." The first part of this film is setting up who our characters are, and setting up some of the strife that we're going to see throughout both films. We get to see the downfall of two face, some hilarious joker scenes, and of course a really good version of Batman!!
