Jonny interviews Jo Clifford, playwright and performer of "The Gospel According to Jesus, Queen of Heaven," being presented at The Church of the Good Shepherd in Carbondale in the coming week (June 29 and July 2). They discuss the topic of the play, which considers,"What would happen if Jesus did come back to earth in the present day as a trans woman?" In the back third of the show, Heather and Jonny review two legal developments for the LGBTQ community, one that seems like pretty good news for veterans expelled from the military under "Don't Ask Don's Tell," the other somewhat trepidatious news as the SCOTUS takes up a case on Tennessee's ban of gender affirming care for trans youth.

Welsh stage and screen star Michael Sheen is in Australia to perform in a new production of Peter Shaffer's classic play Amadeus and the Sydney Opera House. He's taken on the powerhouse role of Mozart's bitter and vengeful rival, Antonio Salieri. Also, at Sydney's Ensemble Theatre, two new plays ask probing questions about what the Christmas message of generosity and hope means in an era of division, recession and climate change, and Jesus returns to earth as a transgender woman in the one-person play The Gospel According to Jesus, Queen of Heaven.

At last year’s Edinburgh International Book Festival, bestselling author Val McDermid and professor of geography Jo Sharp were inspired by the festival theme, We Need New Stories. So inspired, in fact, that they turned to a loveable rogues gallery of Scottish cultural folk to submit a piece of writing about their dreams for a better future. Edited by McDermid and Sharp, Imagine A Country is the fascinating, eclectic and often inspiring result. In this event, recorded live at the 2020 Book Festival, Val McDermid and Jo Sharp host acclaimed writers Doug Johnstone, Jo Clifford and Leila Aboulela, who read their contributions and discuss how we might create a better future for the greatest number of people.
Jo Clifford, whose adaptation of Life is a Dream was set to come to life on the Lyceum stage this month, reflects on the salience of the play's message, and the vital role of theatre as a space for developing empathy.Music by Rachel Newton See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Antstream is the world's first retro game streaming subscription service (think Netflix, but for retro games!). AJ, Martin, and Joerg talk to Antstream's Brandon Keenen and Jo Clifford about how this all came together, and how they're paving the way for the future of retro gaming.
Jo Clifford was at one time something of a lone wolf; the only openly trans playwright in the UK theatre scene. Now, thankfully, she is a leading figure in a vibrant and growing community and this season she revives her hugely successful one-woman play, The Gospel According to Jesus Queen of Heaven. We sat down... View Article The post Jo Clifford appeared first on Putting it Together.
It's here folks, the city is awash with lanyards, Spiegeltents (yes, plural) have been erected, the purple cow is upside down and the circus has most definitely come to town, literally and figuratively. For episode two of Festival City our intrepid host Gareth K Vile headed to National Theatre of Scotland's new, multiple purpose venue Rockvilla for two conversations on plays showing at the Traverse Theatre during the Festival. His first interview is with Jo Clifford on her autobiographical play Eve in which they discuss the lack of trans-narratives in the arts and how these pieces have universal dimensions, after all, we're all just trying to figure out who we are. After critic Lorna Irvine stops by with some theatre recommendations, Gareth is joined by director Cora Bissett to discuss Adam, which tells the story of a boy born in a girl's body in Egypt and who travels to Glasgow in search of liberation. There may also be some Glasgow spruiking in a podcast about the Edinburgh Fringe... cheeky.Show notes:00:00:00 – Introduction from Gareth00:01:47 – Jo Clifford interview for Eve00:11:57 – Music, Derailed 'Oxytosin' Pleasance Dome00:13:23 – Lorna Irvine, theatre picks from Fringe.
The Dust of Everyday Life is an annual conference exploring the arts, mental health and social justice, programmed by the Mental Health Foundation and See Me, Scotland's campaign to end mental health discrimination. This session from Dust 2016, at the CCA in Glasgow on Wednesday 20 April, was a discussion around the National Theatre of Scotland's Eve/Adam project, a double bill of theatre shows exploring transgender lives – Eve, a very personal, reflective show by playwright Jo Clifford (pictured), and Adam, the true story of an Egyptian trans man’s journey to self-discovery, directed by Cora Bissett (Glasgow Girls, Roadkill). The negative impact of stigma and prejudice on the mental health of transgender people is well documented, and the Mental Health Foundation is working with the National Theatre of Scotland to document transgender life stories in a positive and empowering way. Here, Jo Clifford and Cora Bissett talk about the project with Vic Valentine of the Scottish Transgender Alliance and Alison Wren from LGBT Health & Wellbeing.
