Pastor Marc Sharp continues with Part 19 of the current series that is an epic journey through the New Testament Gospel of Mark, verse by verse. The book of Mark was most likely the first one written, and is generally attributed to John Mark, a close associate of Peter, and also of Paul and Barnabas. The Gospel of Mark is all about Jesus and the good news (Gospel) of the kingdom of God. Who was Jesus really, and why exactly did he come? In the last several weeks we have heard how Jesus proved his divine nature and his authority over sickness and death, learning about his redemptive work. Today’s message explores the contrast between John the Baptist and his executioner, Herod Antipas. Herod knew John and had perplexing conversations with him. His conscience was "stricken" by John's words. Full of guilt, Herod feared Jesus, thinking he was a resurrected John the Baptist. Did his fear of Christ result in anything good? Today's message by Pastor Marc Sharp from the book of Revelation may seem unusual for the Advent season. However, the entire Bible, from Genesis 1:1 to Revelation 22:21, is about Christ, not just the Gospels or the New Testament. The Bible is an announcement of God’s determination to save the world through Jesus. In this message, Pastor Marc focuses on one aspect of the Revelation passage: the representation of Christ as both “the Lion of the tribe of Judah” and “a Lamb standing, as though it had been slain”. It captures the essence of who Christ Jesus really is! Jesus did not die for me ___ He died AS ME!!! Once we say yes to God you instantly have the same DNA as God. It doesn't matter where you come from, what you did, how hard your life was ___ the second that you say yes to Jesus you become one with Him. God's plans are good. We might not understand them or see where it will lead to, but if we stand on the rock of God, trust Him with all our hearts ___ He will carry us through. Who do you put your trust in? Where will you spend eternity? Other Bible Readings: Ephesians 5:8, John 14:6 & 2 Corinthians 5:21
John the Baptist was primarily John "the Witness." He was sent by God to prepare the way for Jesus, to point others to Christ. As we learn from his example, the way we point others to Jesus is by knowing who we are and knowing who he is.
