This podcast is from our service on April 13, 2025.
The Gospel of Jesus Christ explains that God gave His only Son as a sacrifice so that our sins might be forgiven. But when you hear this, do you ever wonder…why? Why did Jesus have to die? Why did such a sacrifice have to be made? Pastor John Munro explains why Jesus was The Perfect Sacrifice.
Even in death, Jesus fulfilled every prophecy. His bones unbroken, His side pierced, proving He was the perfect Passover Lamb. Even in these seemingly small details, God shows His sovereign control over salvation's plan. This helps us to know that when life feels uncertain, we can trust the One who never fails to keep His promises.`

The Mountain E12 — If Jesus' role as the promised mountaintop intercessor was unclear from the mountain stories in the Gospels, the author of the letter to the Hebrews wants to make it explicit. Drawing together imagery of Moses on Mount Sinai, the levitical priesthood, and the Old Testament sacrificial system, Hebrews declares that Jesus is the eternal high priest who can ascend to the holy mountain for the people through the blood of his own sacrifice. In this episode, Jon and Tim wrap up our series on The Mountain by exploring Jesus' ascension to the heavenly cosmic mountain, thereby opening the door for humanity.View all of our resources for The Mountain →Timestamps Chapter 1: Recap of the Mountain Theme (0:00-11:31)Chapter 2: The Divine Son, Perfect Sacrifice, and Cosmic High Priest (11:31-40:14)Chapter 3: Draw Near to the Heavenly Mount Zion (40:14-58:28)Chapter 4: Diving Deeper into the Mountain Theme (58:28-1:02:37)Official Episode TranscriptView this episode's official transcript.Referenced ResourcesRethinking the Atonement: New Perspectives on Jesus's Death, Resurrection, and Ascension by David M. The theme of Hebrews is the complete sufficiency and the absolute supremacy of Jesus Christ. It was written to strengthen the Hebrews' wavering faith and prove that Jesus is the One! Jesus is the perfect sacrifice because He was completely sinless. He became a Man to become our sacrificial lamb. The Son of God became flesh for three reasons: 1.) To express God's Word. God said it. The prophets wrote it. But Jesus came to show it! You cannot separate the Word of God from the Son of God. To grow in your relationship with God's Son, you must grow in your relationship with God's Word. The Bible is the written Word, but Jesus is the Living Word. 2.) To execute God's Will. It was Christ who executed God's will at creation and God's will for redemption. Jesus Christ is the perfect sacrifice because He took all our sins on Him to make a way for us to have a personal relationship with God. 3.) To exalt God's Worth. Christ did more than bring God's revelation—He is God revealed. He is worthy of our worship. All of me for all of Him!
