On today's episode, I'm joined by Juan Fran Blanco. Juan is the creator of “Solidity”, the most popular Solidity-oriented VSCode extension in the world. The extension provides hundreds of thousands of Solidity developers daily access to syntax highlighting, autocomplete, and much more. Juan's main focus is Nethereum, a .NET framework for interacting with EVM blockchains. Nethereum is useful for interacting with the blockchain from Microsoft based operating systems, which constitute a huge number of the virtual and physical devices in the world. In this episode, we discuss Juan's experiences working on Ujo Music with Simon De La Rouviere and Karl Floersch, how the Solidity VSCode extension works under the hood, and what role Nethereum plays in the ecosystem. Karl Floersch and Ben Jones from the Optimism team join the podcast to discuss their research and plans around optimistic rollups, a scaling solution for Ethereum. They break down and explain what optimistic rollups are and how they can improve the Ethereum experience. They recently announced the OVM which allows application developers to easily port over their smart contracts from the EVM chain to the OVM chain. They then talk about their recent funding raise and unique ways to fund these efforts. This is a great walkthrough of the new breakthrough scaling technology coming to Ethereum.

Plasma is a new type of scaling solution that Karl is helping to develop, and Phil tries to tear it apart. Phil also introduces the topic of storage rent, which is an uncomfortable truth we'll have to face sooner rather than later. We sit down and try to dig through and define what Plasma is, what the pro's and con's are and what potential use-cases the technology has.
