When a person turns their faith from passive words into real action, one can see God working in their life much better. This is especially true for the blind man who called out to Jesus as he passed by and would not be silenced by the crowd. In today's episode, Rev. FUMC Contemporary Podcast - First United Methodist Church

Scripture:Luke 5: 1-11 (ESV)Jesus Calls the First Disciples1 On one occasion, while the crowd was pressing in on him to hear the word of God, he was standing by the lake of Gennesaret, 2 and he saw two boats by the lake, but the fishermen had gone out of them and were washing their nets. 3 Getting into one of the boats, which was Simon's, he asked him to put out a little from the land. And he sat down and taught the people from the boat. 4 And when he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Put out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch.” 5 And Simon answered, “Master, we toiled all night and took nothing! But at your word I will let down the nets.” 6 And when they had done this, they enclosed a large number of fish, and their nets were breaking. 7 They signaled to their partners in the other boat to come and help them. And they came and filled both the boats, so that they began to sink. 8 But when Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus' knees, saying, “Depart from me, for I am a sinful man, O Lord.” 9 For he and all who were with him were astonished at the catch of fish that they had taken, 10 and so also were James and John, sons of Zebedee, who were partners with Simon. And Jesus said to Simon, “Do not be afraid; from now on you will be catching men.” 11 And when they had brought their boats to land, they left everything and followed him.Worship Set:“Only King Forever” - Mack Brock, Chris Brown, Steven Furtick, Wade Joye“Who You Say I Am” - Ben Fielding, Reuben Morgan“Be Thou My Vision” - Trad. I make plans. I create checklists. Checking boxes on those checklists is one of my greatest joys. And I’m TOAST without my calendar and its checklists. But Luke’s gospel gives us two very familiar stories in a row (Jesus at the home of Martha & Mary, and the parable of the Samaritan that many call ‘good’), and when taken together, a thread emerges. A thread of invitation beyond the plans. Even the Very Good Plans that we have for our time, our money, our energy. This does not mean that plans are inherently bad; they just occasionally prevent us from being present and responsive to an opportunity or person presented to us, in a moment for which we didn’t plan. Which of these was a neighbor to the suffering one? The one who (chucked their plans and) showed mercy. Go and do likewise… [sermon begins at 23:25]Scripture: Luke 10:25-42Image: Photo by Glenn Carstens-Peters on UnsplashPermission to podcast the music in this service obtained from One License with license #A-726929. Hymn: Be Thou My Vision Author: Mary E. Byrne (Hymn will play in full at the end of the podcast.) Be Thou my Vision, O Lord of my heart; Naught be all else to me, save that Thou art. Thou my best Thought, by day or by night, Waking or sleeping, Thy presence my light. Be Thou my Wisdom, and Thou my true Word; I ever with Thee and Thou with me, Lord; Thou my great Father, I Thy true son; Thou in me dwelling, and I with Thee one. Be Thou my battle Shield, Sword for the fight; Be Thou my Dignity, Thou my Delight; Thou my soul’s Shelter, Thou my high Tower: Raise Thou me heavenward, O Power of my power. Riches I heed not, nor man’s empty praise, Thou mine Inheritance, now and always: Thou and Thou only, first in my heart, High King of Heaven, my Treasure Thou art. High King of Heaven, my victory won, May I reach Heaven’s joys, O bright Heaven’s Sun! Heart of my own heart, whatever befall, Still be my Vision, O Ruler of all.

Blessings for graduates abound! Today's homily by Pastor Megan (starts at 19:00) is a pastoral blessing for high school graduates and ALL. About not losing heart... until we inevitably do... and then what?? Also: pudgie pies & inherited tradition, but you're going to have to listen to make that "infinitely more tasty" connection. What a joy to be led by Pastor Amy (starts at 27:35) in wrapping each of our high school graduates in a hand-made comforter made just for each one, to bless them, and to send them with our love and our prayers! +++Permission to podcast the music in this service obtained from One License with license #A-726929.
