The gospel of Mark is filled with action, and from the first verse Jesus is at the center of it all. If you wrote a book about what mattered most, what would be the first verse? The BookThe NT begins with four “gospels”These are biographies of Jesus from 1st centuryEach one has a different audience / different purposeTaken together → give us a thorough picture of JesusWho he was / why he cameThe Gospel of Mark is the shortest gospelProbably the earliest - around 55 AD or soMark writes with a sense of urgency = “immediately,” - 40x“Immediately” urgency, gospel in action.1:16-17 (ESV) Passing alongside the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and Andrew the brother of Simon casting a net into the sea, for they were fishermen. And Jesus said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you become fishers of men.” And immediately they left their nets and followed him. It's an “action” gospel → least amount of Jesus' teaching of all 4Its description are very vivid Engage: it's a great gospel for today's reader because it moves quickly like scenes from a movie. Engage: This is why when missionaries start to translate the Bible in different languages, they usually begin with Mark. It's the simple basics: a great place to begin. The AuthorEarly church unanimously believed this account was written by John Mark Early Xians writers tell us → Mark gathered info about Jesus from Peter From Peter's preaching / memoirsOrganized it all into a coherent storyEngage: Imagine what it would be like to sit at Peter's feet, hearing all these amazing stories about Jesus!Illus: kind of like all the photos I have laying around of my life / family. Maybe someday someone will compile them all into albums that tell a story. That's like what Mark did with Peter's info.Meet him in book of ActsFirst mentioned in Acts 12:12When he realized this, he went to the house of Mary, the mother of John whose other name was Mark, where many were gathered together and were praying.Cousin of Barnabus Col 4:10Aristarchus my fellow prisoner greets you, and Mark the cousin of Barnabas (concerning whom you have received instructions—if he comes to you, welcome him),Traveled with Paul and Barnabas as a young manHelper on their first missionary journey (Acts 13:5) but then left themActs 13:13-14 (NLT) Paul and his companions then left Paphos by ship for Pamphylia, landing at the port town of Perga. There John Mark left them and returned to Jerusalem. But Paul and Barnabas traveled inland to Antioch of Pisidia.Caused some conflict between P & B for second missionary journeyActs 15:36-40 (NLT) After some time Paul said to Barnabas, “Let's go back and visit each city where we previously preached the word of the Lord, to see how the new believers are doing.” Barnabas agreed and wanted to take along John Mark. But Paul disagreed strongly, since John Mark had deserted them in Pamphylia and had not continued with them in their work. Their disagreement was so sharp that they separated. Barnabas took John Mark with him and sailed for Cyprus. Paul chose Silas, and as he left, the believers entrusted him to the Lord's gracious care. But Mark later became Paul's co-worker → encouragement to him2 Timothy says Paul called for him as “useful” for the gospel!2 Timothy 4:11 (NLT) Only Luke is with me. Bring Mark with you when you come, for he will be helpful to me in my ministry. The AudienceThe original audience → probably Gentile Christians, perhaps in RomeMark explains Jewish customsThe Romans were practical, action-oriented peopleKind of like Americans are todayPossibly written during a time...

We Are Agents of Healing Acts 3:3-10 Agents of Beauty Agent - broker, handler, minister, doer, worker (agent of beauty could easily be referred to like this; Minister of beauty, handler of beauty, etc...) Bats, “WE NEED BATS because they are beautiful,” Yeah right! • Bats are often demonized in horror movies and on Halloween, but they are a benefit to humanity. • National Geographic magazine explains that we need bats because: • They eat insects We Are Agents of Healing Acts 3:3-10 • They pollinate crops • They fertilize crops with their guano. • Its a beautiful thing too: • Camp outside and not worry about insects • Plant flowers and watch them grow healthy • To be a farmer of any kind and have your crop fertilized for free... • That's some of the beauty that bats bring... • Bats are an endangered species due to the white-nose syndrome plaguing the North American bat population. • • Even their saliva is an essential factor in developing blood-thinning medication that helps to treat stroke victims. • There are some beautifully ugly things in everyone's life. You never thought dad's belt was beautiful or mom's time-out corner... • You know the beautiful things: • That produces greatness in you. • That forced you to another level. • That made you grow • How beautiful were they? If you're honest, you must admit that they were quite ugly indeed, but the finished product or the final results were amazingly beautiful. 1. What is beautiful? • Our definition - a combination of qualities, such as shape, color, or form, that pleases the senses, especially perception (sight), pleasing the senses or mind. The essence of beauty • • What is God's definition of beauty? God's definition of beauty can be described in a way and a place: • The way God sees us... He is captivated by our beauty; He can't take his eyes off of us. .” Psalm 45:11 • The place God looks to find our beauty... He doesn't look outward... • • 1 Peter 3:3-4 • The Lord has been known to find beauty in some of the most odd places. • Let's look at that with scripture... • Acts 3:3-10 • The Gate called Beautiful • Why was it called “Beautiful” if that was where the beggars were? • Because beauty can be camouflaged with the unwanted, undesirable, and the humanly impossible, because beauty is that which achieves or exemplifies the creative nature of God. • How can beggars be beautiful? Very simple, everything that God created. He personally said that it was good. • Good in this aspect is better than beautiful because beauty in our eyes is relevant to the one comprehending it. • When God made the statement it was Good, says that it pleases Him for all things to be, or they would not be at all. • The word good in Genesis 1:10,12 comes from the Hebrew word ṭôḇ, meaning generous, festive, pleasing, and oh yes Beautiful • You are not in a ugly situation, for God has allowed it to be... That makes whatever you are facing or going through beautiful. • The Beautiful Gate was the name given to one of the gates of the Temple in Jerusalem. It is usually identified as the passage from the court of the Gentiles to the court of the women, which, despite its name, permitted both (Israelite) men and women. The meaning of the term was actually that it was the courtyard of the Temple where women could also enter, i.e., the Temple complex became more restrictive as one got closer to the Most Holy Place, from almost everyone permitted in the court of the Gentiles, then successively to Israelite men and women, then men, Levites, priests, to the High Priest. • ILLUS.- Bro. Budd and Sis. Adora - anytime you're down its selfish because you are only looking at your situation and not others. Mark 16:17-18 Now a man who was lame from birth was being carried to the temple gate called Beautiful. 3 Things Every Person Has: 1)Every person has a need 2)Every person has hidden pain 3)Every person has potential We all have been beautifully and wonderfully made, therefore we are all ministers, making bringers of the good news... “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!” Romans 10:15b • There are a lot of things considered beautiful, but... It's Beautiful When. . . 1. We are led by the Spirit (v. 2) Acts 3:2 • Jesus Peter & John had most likely walked by him before... • Believers are not required to give every homeless person standing at intersections money, but if God says give then give. Order & Spirit-moments • The lame man was fully compliant with the order of that day, and something amazing happens, which to others could be looked at as unfair. • The Apostles are led to heal one of the lame at the gate. What about all the others, sometimes you have to do for one what you would do for all. It's Beautiful When. . . 2. We see the potential of beauty in places of brokenness (v. 2) Acts 3:2 • What do we really see as a potential place of beauty? Definitely not our broken areas. • Most believers view brokenness as a scar or something ugly. • Really now... - Can a man lame from birth really see the beauty in begging - Can a barren couple see the beauty in people having multiple children. - Can a believing kidney patient that's waiting for a transplant see the beauty in those with healthy kidneys and won't serve God. - Can a man that has to walk to work see the beauty in hoodlums driving pristine automobiles. - Can a spirit-filled pastor of a small church see the beauty of other pastors with mega-churches. • How many days did the beggar in this chapter have to psyche himself up to look or expect a good day of collection at the gate. • You can beg for so long for the wrong thing that asking for what you need is not even an option. This was the case of the beggar. It's Beautiful When. . . 3. We understand that no one has everything, but everyone has something (v. 6a) Then Peter said, “Silver or gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you. Acts 3:6a • We have to stop merely trying to fix the world's problems with the world's resources • Could any believer imagine having a serious need and being at the gate of the temple where Jesus and His disciples frequent and not ask for a miracle. • Many believers have gotten use to operating without the working of miracles. • Its really bad when those in need of miracles, come to the place where miracles can happen, and should happen, and won't even expect it or even ask for it. • I am not insinuating that you only ask for healing when we preach about, but every time you come into the house of God expect Him to actually be home. Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord 2 Corinthians 3:17 • Imagine being sick with cancer and going to the hospital looking for food, when medical attention is what you need. • How many times have you came to church and wouldn't even speak of the miracle you needed? • Was it because you didn't believe the leaders had the power to get a prayer through. • Have we reversed the statement? “The power of God have I none, so I'll only give you silver and gold?” So thats the only thing we expect from God through the church is crisis relief to help pay a bill. • Shame on us for such a misuse of God's power. • It's Beautiful When. . . 4. We see lives changed (vv. 6-7) Acts 3:7-10 • From ashes to beauty • ILLUS.-picture of a catapult • • Change can either become chains (that hold you back) or a catapult (that launches you forward) Four things: 1.Commit for the next 4 months 2.Be early (expectancy) 3.Sit up front 4.Get involved
Is 43:19 Behold, I will do a new thing, now it shall spring forth; shall you not know it? I will even make a road in the wilderness and rivers in the desert. For God to fulfil that promise in Isaiah, He has to bring about change. When God does a new thing, that means that there are changes about to happen. He's an agent of change.Rom 12:2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed...God is into transformation; that means change. When He gets a hold of a person's life, He changes it.When He gets a hold of a church, He changes it.He even changed water into wine, but here's the problem.2. People Find It Difficult To ChangeILLUS - Simpson had to fight to introduce chloroform; Lister struggled to have antiseptics accepted; Copernicus was forced to retract his belief that the earth went around the sun.1People seem to be naturally resistant to change. But change happens continuously anyway.Just think of the seasons - spring, summer, autumn, winter.God has built change into our natural existence.Think of the aging process. No matter how hard you try, or what anti-wrinkling creams you use, you will not look the same, at 60-years-old, as you did at the age of twenty. There's change.People change jobs regularly.I remember a time when it was normal for people to stay in the same job for twenty years or more; but not any more.Change happens all the time.ILLUS - 5 billion gigabytes - volume of data created globally in 2002 - equivalent to 800 books per person. Time 10th November, 2003 p 16All that new information means a lot of change. How do people feel about so much change? All of this change brings uncertainty, fear, feelings of spinning out of control.Because so much of the change we experience in life is beyond our control. We can't do anything about it.3. The Church Has A History Of Resisting ChangeILLUS - Even the early church found it difficult to adapt to the leading of the Holy Spirit. Think about what Jesus said to the disciples in Acts 1:8: But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth. This is where Jesus reinforced the mission he had already given His disciples in Matt 28:19-20 and Mk 16:15-16.What was their mission? To go into all the world and make disciples of all nations. This is what Jesus was restating in Acts 1:8 and telling them that they would receive the power of the Holy Spirit to help them to fulfil that mission. That mission was to Jerusalem, then Judea and Samaria, and then to the ends of the earth. In other words, local, national and international. There's a new word that's been invented to cover all three: Glocal.Their mission was glocal: local, national and international. So they were filled with the Holy Spirit in Acts 2:4, then what did they do?Did they fulfil the mission? No, they sat around in Jerusalem all the way through Acts 2, all the way through Acts 3, all the way through Acts 4, all the way through Acts 5, all the way through Acts 6, all the way through Acts 7.And it wasn't till Acts 8:1 that there was a persecution which scattered the disciples through Judea and Samaria. Finally, they were starting to be obedient to Christ's command. But not by choice.Sometimes God has to take drastic measures to get His people to obey Him.This time it took persecution, but they still didn't get with the program.Yes, they were preaching the word (Acts 8:4), but they were still only preaching to Jews and Samaritans. What about the Gentiles?Didn't they know that Jesus wanted them to preach to the Gentiles too?Of course they did!Jesus was very clear about that.He said, "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son..."He didn't say, "For God so loved the Jews that He gave His only begotten Son..."He said, "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature." (Mk 16:15)This message was never just for the Jews. But people find it so difficult to cope with change. It wasn't till Acts 10 that they began to rethink their theology to come into alignment with God's theology.ILLUS - Peter was on the roof praying, when he had a vision. And in the vision, he saw a sheet coming down out of heaven full of all kinds of animals. And then there was a voice saying, "Rise, Peter, kill and eat." And Peter said, "Lord, I can't do that! I'm a good Jew."Now just think about this for a moment. The Lord told Peter to do something and Peter says no.Isn't that a bit strange? His tradition had such a strong hold on him that even when God told him to do something, he said no.God says, "But I've made it clean so don't call it unclean."You'd think that God would have made His point clear, but this still isn't enough for Peter.Immediately, he has the same vision, with the same sheet full of animals, and the same voice telling him to kill and eat. Now, wouldn't you think that Peter would have got the message?Nope. He answers God in the same way: "Sorry Lord, no can do. I'm a good Jew."This message had to come to him three times. Then suddenly, ding-dong, there's the doorbell. And there are some men waiting to take Peter to Caesarea in the north to speak to Cornelius, a centurion in the Roman army - a Gentile. So Peter goes with the men, and when he gets there, he finds that Cornelius has gathered his friends and family, and they're all waiting for Peter.Peter preaches his message, and suddenly, the Holy Spirit turns up, and everyone is filled with the Holy Spirit and starts to speak in tongues.Peter looks around and his fellow-Jews who had come with him and says, "Well, I suppose we can't very well refuse to baptise them in water if God has filled them with the Holy Spirit, can we?"So Peter goes back to Jerusalem, but the news has gone on ahead of him, and there are people waiting to take issue with him.He has to explain the whole thing right from the beginning before they finally realise that God has granted salvation to the Gentiles too. That's in Acts 11:18.Why didn't this happen a lot sooner?People find change so difficult. And the church, down through the ages has been no different. When the Roman emperor Constantine made Christianity the official religion of the empire, the church went into a downward spiral. That downward spiral was already happening since the time of the apostles, but making the church the official religion brought masses into the churches who brought with them their beliefs and their immorality. The church degenerated into a political force and, except for small pockets of genuine believers, there was spiritual darkness for over a thousand years. Then in 1517 Martin Luther declared the revelation he had received from God that the just should live by faith, not works.
MiniTITS E28 : Morbid Angel – Illus Machin Truc. The global economy was booming as 2020 dawned, but within a few short months wreckage, death, and desperation borne of economic contraction were the new normal. What happened? In When Politicians Panicked, economic commentator John Tamny tells the heart-wrenching story of a time when politicians were tragically relieved of basic common sense in their response to the new coronavirus. In March of 2020, the virus quickly became a major news item as political panic about it traveled around the world. Even though anecdotal and market-based evidence from the virus's epicenter indicated very low lethality, politicians quickly imposed economy-crushing lockdowns on the rather specious assumption that unemployment, bankruptcy, and starvation would somehow halt the virus's spread. Tamny methodically dismantles the political consensus by showing how economic growth has long been the first and last answer to death and disease. He then shows how politicians, having mindlessly crushed a growing economy, proceeded to double down on their mistakes by throwing taxpayer money at their shocking errors. Throughout When Politicians Panicked, Tamny makes a relentless case that free people don't just produce the wealth that renders today's killers yesterday's news. They also produce crucial information about health threats that shine a light on that which threatens us. Lockdowns suffocate economic progress, but they also blind us to how we can progress—as Tamny makes plain in what will go down as an essential history for anyone seeking to understand the coronavirus panic of 2020.
THENEED FOR DEVILS AND FALSE PROPHETS, Chapter 11 of Holy Priesthood Volume 5 Pages 147 to 167 There is evil in the world, and there is also good. Was there ever a counterfeit without a true coin? No. (Brigham Young, JD 7:240) It is sometimes difficult to understand why God created such a beautiful world and then allowed evil, sin and wickedness to have so much dominion over it. “Where does this evil come from?” Isaiah records the answer: I am the Lord, and there is none else. I form the light and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the Lord do all these things. (Isa. 45:6-7) But why does God put evil on the earth that He created? This has been a great mystery to both Protestant and Catholic scholars, and there are very few good answers. Bible scholars have commented: To what extent physical sufferings are the necessary means to greater good is, however, a great question. (Ungers Bible Dic., p. 329) Of this problem, some have been embittered. (Zondervan Enc. of Bible 2:420) God is against evil, but its existence is often a stumbling-block to belief in a God of love. We want Christmas to be perfect, lighting, music, decor and meals. Rowena has decorated our home incredibly Illus: Ben/Eldon’s perfect picture How many pictures/editing to get this picture? Is it accurate? It’s the sanitized version of the day. We’ve done the same to the Christmas Story Luke 2:6–7 (ESV) And while they were there, the time came for her to give birth. And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in swaddling cloths and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn. TITLE: The Problem With Sanitizing PRAYER: “Wrapped him in swaddling cloths and laid him in a manger?” An extremely pregnant woman traveling days via donkey exposed to the elements.Traveling for a census, imposed by the Romans occupying their land: Roman citizens legally compel non-Roman to do almost anything Legally confiscate, property, require sexual favors and kill with no punishment ○ Execution was common and extreme, often for sporting purposes, including burning people alive, sewing then in animal skins and attacked by dogs, impalement, crucifixion Traveling with her fiance who broke off the engagement - the baby is not hisThey are traveling to his family’s region, and her pregnancy is scandalousUpon arrival, no room with family/friends - that says it all No room at the inn, gives birth in a stable, outside, animals, etcMedicine was poor. Diseases were rampant. Life expectancy was 40Placed the baby in a manger, a long open box or horses or cattle to eat fromHost of angels show up and absolutely terrify themMassive groups of shepherds keep showing up wanting to see the baby. Sanitizing: the process of enhancing the perception of a thing in order to make it more appealing and valuable. Shrewd marketingDeception -counterproductive to our best lives It turns it into Instagram story that is irrelevant to those of us living real lives in real situations, in a real world than glamor Sanitizing Is Not The Language Of The Kingdom. But Truth Is. The Bible might be the worst promotional book ever. If it were for a pamphlet for a cruise line, you would discover: Most captains unqualified to navigate boatsMost boats have significant health outbreaks Instances of staff mistreating passengersShips regularly under attack by pirates.Storms are frequentSome ships never make it to their destination. Consider Ananias/Sapphira Acts 4:34–35 (ESV) There was not a needy person among them, for as many as were owners of lands or houses sold them and brought the proceeds of what was sold and laid it at the apostles’ feet, and it was distributed to each as any had need. Acts 5:1–5 (ESV) But a man named Ananias, with his wife Sapphira, sold a piece of property, and with his wife’s knowledge he kept back for himself some of the proceeds and brought only a part of it and laid it at the apostles’ feet. But Peter said, “Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and to keep back for yourself part of the proceeds of the land? Why is it that you have contrived this deed in your heart? You have not lied to man but to God.” When Ananias heard these words, he fell down and breathed his last. And great fear came upon all who heard of it.Why is it that you have contrived this deed in your heart? They were sanitizing their life. They wanted to Impress othersThey wanted their giving to look bigger than it wasThey wanted to be connected to an elite groups Ananias/Sapphira were New Testament virtue signalers. To do something to be perceived as virtuous you otherwise would not do.To do something in public that you don’t do in private. Many of our current political leaders are guilty of this. Gaven Newsome and his medical officials laid out some of the most extreme lockdown measures in the country regarding social distancing, limiting exposure, banning inside dining at restaurants, suggesting you cancel thanksgiving and mask even while eating - but celebrating his birthday at a high end restaurant with over 20 of those same medical officials creating policy present, every one or them breaking every rule. His public and private life are contradictory. He’s virtue signaling. He’s sanitized His public persona because his private one would not be accepted. ● He’s also a man like me somewhere in the process of God - I’m believing for his BEST! COVID RELATED THOUGHTS FOR OUR CHURCH: Some have good reason to distance and not be in church Underlying health issues Around people with underlying health issues Around the infected and you are trying to protect others. Decided risk is too high We support you, Live Stream etc. Illus: Alison Welter Some have tremendous CONVICTION not to distance and to be in church in personConviction: gathering is the command of God Conviction: gathering is necessary for their well well-being and equippingConviction: gathering allows me to serve the well-being of others.Decided the risk is worth it. ● We support you. We will take the risk with you (physical, social and legal)Illus: 85 year old couple greeting families in Texas Choose your course, but don’t navigate like Gaven Newsome. It is double minded and hypocritical It will diminish your leadership influence in the lives of some It infects others with your same brand of duality Sanitizing Repels The Supernatural Work Of God. Truth Attracts It. When the imperfect is exposed to God, He races in to perfect it. James 5:16 (ESV) Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working. Transparency with the right people in the right environment unlocks the supernatural power of God. Declaring truth in love unlocks the perfecting work of God in lives. The truth about who you are The truth about who they are The truth about God The truth about God’s world Sanitizing any of the above leaves people trapped in their imperfection because we fail to faithfully proclaim a better option. Consider 3 Hebrews and Nebuchadnezzar, King was encouraged to demand people worship golden statue at sound of bandUnredeemed leaders crave power and control, not the best for their peopleThree young men who follow God - violates commandment 1 & 2, so they don’t bowLeft the country Steer clear of the idol and avoid taking a stand Bow down, but don’t mean it in your heart Bow down, repent later All examples of sanitizing. They refuse to bow, Nebuchadnezzar meets with them and demands they bow. Daniel 3:16–18 (ESV) Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego answered and said to the king, “O Nebuchadnezzar, we have no need to answer you in this matter. If this be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of your hand, O king. But if not, be it known to you, O king, that we will not serve your gods or worship the golden image that you have set up. Fiery furnace is heated up They are thrown in Nebuchadnezzar notices four in the fire and calls them out Fire had no power over them, hair, clothes, no smoky smellDaniel 3:28–30 (ESV) Nebuchadnezzar answered and said, “Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, who has sent his angel and delivered his servants, who trusted in him, and set aside the king’s command, and yielded up their bodies rather than serve and worship any god except their own God. Therefore I make a decree: Any people, nation, or language that speaks anything against the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego shall be torn limb from limb, and their houses laid in ruins, for there is no other god who is able to rescue in this way.” Then the king promoted Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego in the province of Babylon. When we risk declaring truth in love, up close, we unlock the perfecting work of God in peoples lives. Luke 5:13 (ESV) And Jesus stretched out his hand and touched him, saying, “I will; be clean.” And immediately the leprosy left him. Jesus benign born in such an imperfect environment Gives us confidence that He in your life and through your life can do the miraculous Don’t sanitize.

Scriptural Context of Ezra: ● Israelites sanctioned by Cyrus, King of Persia to return to Jerusalem ● Fully funded to rebuild the wall, Temple, resume worship/festivals ● Resume Jewish life in the region ● Area residents disliked Cyrus, but disliked Israel even more ● Attempted to hinder the rebuilding process with the following strategy Ezra 4:4–5 (ESV) Then the people of the land discouraged the people of Judah and made them afraid to build and bribed counselors against them to frustrate their purpose, all the days of Cyrus king of Persia, even until the reign of Darius king of Persia. Title: BREACH POINTS In our REBOOT series we’ve talked about: The ongoing need for spiritual REBOOTS, how they are activated. The importance of regular updates that bring us back into alignment with The LORD. TODAY: Defending your life from the ongoing attack of the enemy and the impact of his lies.Scripting attacks seek to insert malicious code in order to lead users to interact with false information that leads to false data, hijacked links and fake websites in order to steal resources or cause system failure. Cyber security specialists have dedicated significant resources in order to identify and secure common breach points where the attacks take place. Real life has some very common parallels. God has given us His Word, the code for abundant living but the enemy our our souls attacks all of us at common breach points, seeking to inject his malicious code to pollute our lives with his word, which is nothing but lies designed to reroute our lives into a less-than experience, steal our resources and cause personal failure on any level possible. We know: ● John 10:10 (ESV) The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy ● John 8:44 (ESV) ...he is a liar and the father of lies. ● Luke 4:13 (ESV) ....until an opportune time. ● Genesis 4:7 (ESV) ...sin is crouching at the door. ● 1 Peter 5:8–9 (ESV) ...the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. ● 2 Corinthians 2:11 (ESV) ...so that we would not be outwitted by Satan; for we are not ignorant of his designs. But the enemy fought their script, looking to inject malicious code by engaging several common breach points: BREACH POINT: INSERT MALICIOUS CODE WHERE NO OTHER CODE EXISTS Ezra 4:5 (ESV) and bribed counselors against them to frustrate their purpose, all the days of Cyrus king of Persia, even until the reign of Darius king of Persia. ● There are many things we have never experienced before and counsellors play a key role in navigating them ● People Of The Land hied counsellors (foreigner and Israel) ● There will be people in your world with a giant pro-them agendas that requires anti-you. ● They may not have made a blood oath with Satan, but He is behind the narrative. ● They look to inject their code where you have yet to establish code.Illus: our greatest concern for our kids - someone else building their value system - homeschool ● Hosea 4:6 (ESV) My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge… ● Amos 8:11 (ESV) “Behold, the days are coming,” declares the Lord GOD, “when I will send a famine on the land— not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the LORD. There has never been more access to God’s Word than there is today! DEFENSE: ● Study God’s Word daily; understand it’s context; consider life application ● Study Basic Doctrine BREACH POINT: OVERWRITE TRUTH WITH MALICIOUS CODE Ezra 4:2 (ESV) “Let us build with you, for we worship your God as you do, and we have been sacrificing to him ever since the days of Esarhaddon king of Assyria who brought us here.” ● POTL were playing the long game ● Lied about who they were in order to shift thinking and later the actions ● Get you to participate in something that leads to your downfall. ILLUS: engaged young woman whose boyfriend kept disappearing to fast and pray TRUST, BUT VERIFY. When this is slow to work, scripting attacks introduce temptation: the risky “click-here” link ● Trojan Horse - looks like a reward, but invites the enemy into your otherwise protected city. Numbers 22-23 Balaak King of Moab, wanted to destroy Israel ● Brought in the prophet Balaam to curse them, but three times he was unable ● Balaam suggested tempting them with the women of Moab Often the best strategies to get you to participate in WRONG is to show you the REWARD only available to you by doing the WRONG thing ● “I know God’s word says A, B and C, BUT…” ● It’s in that moment you are exchanging God’s truth for your new truth! ● Romans 1:24–25 (ESV) ...they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen.Malicious code works overtime to get Christians to embrace things that are wrong: ABORTION ● What about if someone was raped - less than 1% of the time What about if the mother’s life is in danger - less than 1% of the time. Illus: Elaine Stimpson 99% of abortions are after the fact contraceptives ○ 2017 - 862,000 abortions - 20% of all pregnancies end in abortion ○ 2,363 abortions per day - ○ 7,700 people die per day ○ 25% of deaths every day are the result of murder in the womb. ○ 431,000 abortions during COVID - died because of abortion ○ 210,000 died during COVID - but only 12,000 die of COVID ○ More babies die of abortion in a week than people died soley of COVID in 6 months Illus: Christian mom who wanted teenage daughter to abort baby - how will people look at me? Christians buy into the, “I know it’s not right, but it’s still better than…. This child is going to be deformed ○ What level of deformity is acceptable? ○ Down syndrome? ○ Heart condition ○ Blonde hair, black skin? ○ Illus: Matthesius’ daughter ● Not wanted” ● Will be unhappy” ● Someone can’t afford” ● Contributes to overpopulation” ● Places additional stress on the world’s food supply Let’s use these same arguments on old people, or sick people… your grandmother. What does God’s word say about the child in its mother’s womb? ● Psalm 139:13–19 (ESV) For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them. How precious to me are your thoughts, O God! How vast is the sum of them! If I would count them, they are more than the sand. I awake, and I am still with you. Oh that you would slay the wicked, O God! O men of blood, depart from me!If you have had an abortion, there is forgiveness for you. It’s possible that it was malicious code injected when you didn’t know it was wrong It’s possible that it was malicious code injected to overwrite what you knew to be wrong. But abortion cannot continue under the cover of a woman’s right to choose. The choice can be and should be made prior to conception, not after.

The Hole World. Week 2 Outline - 08.09.20 He’s Still* Got The Whole World In His Hands SeriesIsaiah 4012Who else has held the oceans in his hand? Who has measured off the heavens with his fingers? Who else knows the weight of the earth or has weighed the mountains and hills on a scale? 13Who is able to advise the Spirit of the LORD? Who knows enough to give him advice or teach him? 14Has the LORD ever needed anyone’s advice? Does he need instruction about what is good? Did someone teach him what is right or show him the path of justice? 15No, for all the nations of the world are but a drop in the bucket. They are nothing more than dust on the scales. He picks up the whole earth as though it were a grain of sand. 22God sits above the circle of the earth. The people below seem like grasshoppers to him! He spreads out the heavens like a curtain and makes his tent from them. 26Look up into the heavens. Who created all the stars? He brings them out like an army, one after another, calling each by its name. Because of his great power and incomparable strength, not a single one is missing.Intro:Hole In Your Whole Illus. Você pode até achar que Shakespeare não é a sua praia porque você não é inglês, adora rebolar ao som de Anitta e detesta teatro, mas há mais influência de Shakespeare na nossa vida do que sonha a nossa vã filosofia. Blessings for graduates abound! Today's homily by Pastor Megan (starts at 19:00) is a pastoral blessing for high school graduates and ALL. About not losing heart... until we inevitably do... and then what?? Also: pudgie pies & inherited tradition, but you're going to have to listen to make that "infinitely more tasty" connection. What a joy to be led by Pastor Amy (starts at 27:35) in wrapping each of our high school graduates in a hand-made comforter made just for each one, to bless them, and to send them with our love and our prayers! +++Permission to podcast the music in this service obtained from One License with license #A-726929. Covenant - Being a Part of God's Work• [VIDEO] Pixar movie Up intro scene.• Where did we learn to love, commit like that?• Last week we saw the destruction wrought by temptation and rebellious choices.• For the next 8 chapters of Genesis, humanity replays Adam and Eve’s sin to the point that God has to start the world over with Noah:• Even this extreme act doesn’t wipe out the predisposition to sin, to buy into the devil’s lie that we can be like God.• But in chapter 12, God chooses a man to create a family and eventually a nation to work his will. That man was Abram.• It is with Abram that God makes a covenant.Genesis 15:6 And he believed the Lord, and he counted it to him as righteousness.God Initiates Covenants• First element of the agreement with Abram:Genesis 12:1–3 • What are we talking about when we say “covenant?”Covenant - What Is It?o We enter into contracts all the time. o The Bible describes “royal covenants.”§ Two parties - greater and lesser.§ Greater (God in this case) sets the terms of the covenant - rewards and punishments.§ Lesser can enter or decline the covenant.§ There’s a demonstration of what happens when the covenant is broken.Genesis 15:9–10o The point to this bloody demonstration is to say “may it be to me if I break this covenant.”• But look what happens when it’s time to make the agreement:Genesis 15:17• This becomes very important in a moment…Genesis 17:1–7 • God makes subsequent covenants with Abraham’s offspring:o Moses - (Ten Commandments) covenant of land & kingdomo David - King of Israel and into future.• Finally the new covenant of eternal life in Jesus Christ.Matthew 26:26–28 • But this begins with Abraham who is, literally, the father of faith.[SLIDE] Abraham - The Father of FaithFaith - What Do We Mean?Genesis 12:1–2 • Abram believes that God will do what he says and acts on that faith.Romans 4:3 • But “faith” in our cultural context can mean simply “belief” or, “assent.” Clearly more is intended.• Change “believed” to “was faithful.”• Illus: there’s a difference between saying “I have faith in my wife/husband,” and saying, “I am faithful to my wife/husband.”• It’s commitment.Jesus Fulfills Abraham’s CovenantGenesis 15:9–10 • Remember that God symbolically walked through the ratification of the covenant. Abram did not.• God affirmed that any covenant breaking would be borne by Him, not Abram or his offspring.Jesus Pays the Price for Breaking the CovenantMatthew 27:45–50 Bottom Line• Jesus demonstrated true faithfulness to God and to us.• His blood, his sacrifice is God walking through the animals.• He is God in the flesh fulfilling the covenant to Abraham, paying the price for our unfaithfulness.• If we want to be a part of God’s plan, we must have faith. In fact, faithfulness.

In this episode of the most infamous podcast on planet earth, Blueprint sits down for an interview with hip-hop artist and professional illustrator Adam "Illus" Wallenta. Adam has done artwork for a who's who of hip-hop artists like Public Enemy and Craig G, published award winning Children's books, as well as illustrating all three of Blueprint's books. We break down his journey to become a professional illustrator, his time working at Marvel, and his independent publishing experiences. Lots of jewels in this one. Let's go!
Intro: I would like to ask you’re a question this morning. Who are “those” people? Have you ever used that term? In your heart of hearts, have you ever looked at or known someone and thought how can God possibly forgive them? Look how bad they are or have been. If any of those questions have ever crossed your mind as a Christ follower, then that is a good indicator that we have lost the reality of God’s grace in Jesus Christ. If you are here today and have not come to a personal relationship with Jesus by faith, please listen carefully. In this passage, Jesus reminds us of how needy we really are of His love and grace. This passage calls us to understand 4 key aspects of God’s grace in Christ. 1. Jesus Is Attractive to the Needy People i) Our sin produces a major debt (1) Illus. The national debt ii) Everyone of us is in major debt without Christ (1) The payment for sin is separation from Christ for all eternity (2) Sin brings death and darkness and no hope 2. Jesus Is Always Counter Cultural a. Women were not valued in Jesus’ culture b. A man was not to have any interaction with women in public c. Holy love and grace make no distinctions 3. Jesus Is Always Opposed to Religious Self-Righteous a. The self-righteous don’t think they are needy b. If they don’t believe they have a need, there is no need for love and grace c. Therefore, self-righteousness leads to spiritual blindness 4. Jesus Paid Our Debt from Sin Once for All a. To have this payment applied to our enormous debt, we can’t earn it, we don’t deserve it, we appropriate it by repentance and faith alone b. We all are morally bankrupt! c. We have a major problem d. Jesus is the only answer Closing: Have we grown too familiar with God’s holy grace and Holy love that we have forgotten that at one time, we stood before God in our moral bankruptcy? Have we grown too familiar with the magnitude of the debt from which we have been forgiven? And, what about “those” people? God’s holy love and grace does not discriminate. Why do we discriminate? After all, at one time, many of us were “those” people.

GOD’S DELIVERY ROOM - 2 Corinthians 5:11-17 11Therefore, since we know what it means to fear the Lord, we try to persuade men. What we are is clear to God, and I hope it is clear to your conscience as well. 12We are not commending ourselves to you again. Instead, we are giving you an occasion to be proud of us, so that you can answer those who take pride in appearances rather than in the heart. 13If we are out of our mind, it is for God; if we are of sound mind, it is for you. 14For Christ’s love compels us, because we are convinced that One died for all, therefore all died. 15And He died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves, but for Him who died for them and was raised again. 16So from now on we regard no one according to the flesh. Although we once regarded Christ in this way, we do so no longer. 17Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away. Behold, the new has come! How To Heat The Heart Of A Holy Hottie 1 Peter 3:7 (NIV) “Husbands, in the same way BE CONSIDERATE as you LIVE WITH your wives, and TREAT THEM WITH RESPECT as the weaker partner, and as heirs with you of the gracious gift of life, so that nothing will hinder your prayers.” According to 1 Peter 3:7, three things will warm the heart of a Godly woman toward her man. 1. Understand my wife! Hard Because of the way we’re made so different… Starts - “BE CONSIDERATE” Difficulty in Communication is Hard Wired (Illus. Communication 3) Woman 25,000 words – Man 10,000 words… Wife 45 Min to 1 Hour a day – Husband 15-20 Min. Once, Twice Week My Wife: Deep Yearning to Know – I want to Know Her – NOT JUST FIX HER… Understanding is the FIX!!! Definition: Thoughtful of the needs and feelings of another. Be in tune with her feelings. We need to be able to discern our wives feelings and respond to them accordingly. Don't ignore, belittle, or get angry at your wife's feelings. Know her desires. - Concerning herself. - Concerning your family Understand her moods. Some days she'll be blue a need an extra dose of tenderness. Some days she'll be fed up with the kids and need you to give her some relief. Some days she'll feel lonely, and need a little extra time. Some days she'll feel unlovely, and may need a new dress or a hairdo to make her feel attractive. There's No System. Sensitivity grows out of communication. More than just talking. It is LOOKING, LISTENING, and LEARNING. Many wives Say, Husbands are BLIND and DEAF Understanding their needs and desires. So Busy trying to fix it – Never Understand Her – Understanding is the REAL FIX! Requires Attention - Every part of the human body communicates: The eyes - show anger, disinterest, Happiness. The body - It shows when it's tired, depressed, bored. The tone of voice often reveals the truth behind our words. Just - Open our EYES and EARS - Wives are saying (to us and to others), we would learn how to RESPOND TO THEIR EMOTIONS and MEET THEIR NEEDS. Ask Yourself Does she need COMFORT? Does she need ENCOURAGEMENT? Does she need HELP? Does she need LEFT ALONE? 2. Spend time with my wife! “LIVE WITH” Most Modern Marriages – Suffer from a Simple lack of Togetherness…! Careers have Destroyed Relationships… Outside Interests have destroyed Relationships – No Automatic Pilot… Lack of time together - Opens up room for a deep soul loneliness – Vulnerable! Definition: Share my life … do things together… be companions. (Illus.) Sharing Life is Not – Pack Mule, Mouse, Lion, Worker Bee “What Women Want”… (Illus. Dishes with me 8) 3. Honor my wife! Value of a Wife: Proverbs 31:10 An excellent wife, who can find? For her worth is far above jewels. Prov 12:4 An excellent wife is the crown of her husband Prov 18:22 He who finds a wife finds a good thing, and obtains favor from the Lord. Guy who didn’t do understand this (Illus. Undertaker 9) “TREAT THEM WITH RESPECT” Guy Really tried to Change (Illus. Come Home Drunk 7) Definition: Show that I put her needs and desires ahead of my own by my words, attitudes, and actions. (Illus.) GOLD Practical ways to assign honor: 1) Tell her you love her and appreciate her…When we got Married… 2) Tell others that you love her and appreciate her (especially in her presence) 3) Treat her “Heir of the Gracious Gift of Life… Before God” --- CROSS Frustration builds up - Shown that she is Special “What’s Wrong?” -- “Why Frustrated?” “TREAT THEM WITH RESPECT – AS THE WEAKER PARTNER” Explain: “Weaker – Caution: HANDLE WITH CARE” HOW? --- 3 Ways… Pamper Her. By doing so, you let her know that you want her to dress and smell like a

Psalms” Psalm 1:1-6 An Appeal to Our Mind & Heart . . . The Psalms are instructive regarding how we think, specifically in . . . (Illus.: making a mess by not following the instructions) How we relate to God. How we relate to others. How to live life. The Psalms are meant to stir the affections and feelings of our heart and align them with the truth of God’s instruction. Delighting in the World . . . When you disregard God’s instruction and delight in the world, it wrongly influences how you think and feel about God, others, and life. Walking in the counsel of the wicked doesn’t bring happiness. “Keep hold of instruction; do not let go; guard her, for she is your life. Do not enter the path of the wicked, and do not walk in the way of the evil. Avoid it; do not go on it; turn away from it and pass on.” Proverbs 4:13-15 Standing in the way of sinners doesn’t bring happiness. “My son, if sinners entice you, do not consent.” Proverbs 1:10 Sitting in the seat of scoffers doesn’t bring happiness. “’Scoffer’ is the name of the arrogant, haughty man who acts in arrogant pride.” Proverbs 21:24 “Scoffers set a city aflame, but the wise turn away wrath.” Proverbs 29:8 “There is a way that SEEMS right to a man, but its end is the way of death.” Proverbs 16:25 Delighting in the world never leads to happiness. Delighting in the Word . . . When you delight in God’s instruction, it rightly influences how you think and feel about God, others, and life. A daily discipline in God’s word will awaken your delight for Him. “The battle to avoid the counsel of the wicked and the way of the sinner and the seat of the scoffer — the battle to be righteous and holy and humble — is a fight that is won by delight.” John Piper The measure of your obedience to God will be determined by the depth of your delight in God. In a sermon entitled “Authentic Christianity”, Pastor Don Modglin exposes our hearts and the hypocrisy that we can so easily fall into. Pastor Don calls us to living lives devoted to the Lord and living the authentic Christian life.

Two great interviews this week on The Library...William Shakespeare is considered the world's greatest writer, but for many his Elizabethan English is challenging. The Sonnet Man, conceived and produced by Broadway playwright Arje Shaw sets Shakespeare's sonnets to Hip Hop blending classical literature with an urban beat, hearing Shakespeare as never before, and opening it up to young people in a genre they know and love.I interviewed the star of this production rap artist Devon Glover. My Second interview is with Hip-Hop artist Illus...Family First is the brand new cd by ILLUS featuring some of the best emcees in the business. Essentially, buttamilk is a concept that started in Philadelphia around 1994 with three fellows named Gene, Kenny, and Marv. They all met working as interns at the classic soul station, WDAS, in Philadelphia. Realizing that we all had a great time together and all had a love for music, especially music that was just under the commercial radio radar, we decided to band together and throw some parties. Kenny would host, Gene would get on the mic, and Marv spun the tunes. Our first event was a house party for Kenny's birthday. We thought that it would be cool and a twist to invite some singers to sing over instrumentals as people moved and grooved...just a slight departure from the "throw your hands in the air like you just don't care," chants, you know? Simplistic and hardly groundbreaking, but to the audience we played to, it was a thrill. People thought they were hearing new versions of tracks because they couldn't see the artists. Sometime after that party, we brainstormed on how to present what we did at that jam, but shed more light, literally, on the artists performing. We wanted to put together a show that would showcase music, singing, and spoken word to working class Philadelphians whose taste were fairly mainstream. We wanted to bring a high level of entertainment with style and intellect to everyday people. But, we needed a name... Buttamilk Two records that Marv always played were Audio Two's "Top Billin" and A Tribe Called Quest "Butter." The Audio Two track had a line "Milk is chillin, what more can I do Top Billin," and the Tribe track featured Phife's hook, "It's like butta...not no parkay, not no margarine, strictly butta." On top of that connection, being the cognitive fellows that we were, we made the correlation: Butter is what you spread to add flavor and stimulate taste, Milk is what you drink for the nourishment you need to grow…Buttamilk! The First Show WDAS, the station where we all worked, has an annual street festival called Unity Day. This event is huge, averaging ½ million people every summer for years. If you wanted to see your R&B/Soul idols like James Brown or the Isley Brothers or Chaka Kahn, Unity Day was it. But beyond the main stage, there were several pavilions and stages. There was a literary pavilion that was perfect for our aims. Throughout the day, the station planned to have writers and poets sign their books and meet and greet. We thought it be a good idea to have some people perform while Marv played his eclectic instrumentals and the station agreed. (Now here’s a flashback to a couple months prior to the big day). Kenny and I went to a friend of his backyard barbeque. Mixing and mingling, we came upon a woman named Jill. We talked about what we were up to and our aspirations and we saw that she seemed really interested. Somehow things segued into an on the spot audition as Jill effortlessly scatted jazz style, the lyrics to Onyx’s “Throw Your Guns In The Air.” Sticky Fingaz’s verse to be exact. We couldn’t believe her voice, her ease, and the way she transformed a rough and tough Hip Hop tune into jazz. If she was down with us, we were down with her performing at our inaugural event several weeks later at the WDAS Unity Day celebration. Unity Day with Jill Scott was where Buttamilk spread its wings into four years of parties and events that would showcase the likes of the Roots, JazzyFatNastees, Ursula Rucker, Wadud, Stephanie Renee, Rich Medina, Sarah Jones, novelist Omar Tyree, James Poyser, Jafar Barron, Dick Gregory, Sonia Sanchez, King Britt, and Nelson George.
