The podcast takes a look at the 1997 cold case of Asheville, N.C. resident Amber Lundgren and the 1970 unsolved murder of Nancy Morgan, who died in 1970 while working with the VISTA program in Madison County, N.C.

On today's podcast I talk with Dr. Nancy Morgan, Certified IFS Therapist. Nancy wrote the IFS and Psychedelic chapter in the new upcoming book, "Altogether Us" which will be released around August 2023. I spoke with Nancy on episode 47 when we focused her role as Director of LifeMoves Behavioral Health and Training Programs, a California agency dedicated to breaking the cycle of homelessness. Nancy introduced IFS into the training curriculum during the 2015-2016 year. Today, we have a much different discussion. You may be here because you love Nancy and want to know and hear how she is and what is going on with her as she was recently diagnosed with cancer. Nancy Morgan spent the last three years as the intelligence community's chief data officer. In that time, the amount of information both collected and produced by intelligence agencies has grown exponentially. The IC is now rewriting its 2017 data strategy to help guide spy agencies in all aspects of how they use an ever growing amount of data. Morgan retired at the end of April, but first, she sat down with Justin Doubleday, as well as Jory Heckman, host of "All About Data," to discuss the IC's evolving data strategy, and why she thinks data isn't just a field for highly trained data scientists.

In June of 1970, the body of 24-year-old Nancy Morgan was found inside a government-owned car in Madison County, North Carolina. It had been four days since anyone had heard from the bubbly, hard-working brunette who had moved to the Appalachian community less than a year prior as an organizer for Volunteers in Service to America. At the time of her death, her tenure in the Tar Heel State was just weeks from ending, her intentions set on New York and nursing school and a new life that she would never see. The initial investigation was thwarted by inept police work, jurisdictional confusion, and the influence of local corruption. Over the last 2 years Nancy and her studio did have to pivot the way their classes were being taught, needing to move to online streaming and pre-recorded classes as opposed to in person lessons in order to continue to provide the consistent classes that her students were counting on. Nancy is the Director of LifeMoves Behavioral Health and Training Programs, a California agency dedicated to breaking the cycle of homelessness. Nancy introduced IFS into the training curriculum during the 2015-2016 year. Travis Shubeck is one of the trainees and students who chose to complete his practicum at LifeMoves. Travis is working on an IFS manual for case managers who work with the homeless population. Travis states IFS,  "is an opportunity to get out of my head and into my heart." In 1970, a federal antipoverty worker's body is found on a secluded wagon trail in the middle of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Secrets, rumors, and a good old boys club seemed to hinder the investigation. Without new leads or evidence, the case goes stagnant until an informant comes forward with information. Nearly 50 years later, this unsolved murder of Nancy Morgan remains one of the most mysterious crimes in Madison County.

On Wednesday I received a direct message from Nancy Morgan on my Twitter account. Nancy wanted to know if I could answer a question for her; 'Why do death row inmates get a last meal?' So I thought that it would be nice to have a whole episode dedicated to answering her question. Unfortunately the answer to Nancy's question was a bit short, so I found a lot of fun information that related to the condemned's last meal.
