In this heartfelt and inspiring episode of the VET S.O.S. Podcast, we're honored to sit down with Patriotic Kenny (Kenny Jary), a Navy veteran whose story exemplifies resilience, community, and a steadfast commitment to helping others. Kenny shares his remarkable journey, from serving aboard the USS Okinawa during the Cuban Missile Crisis to his transition to civilian life and an unexpected viral moment that changed everything. After retiring from a 32-year career at Ford Motor Company, Kenny faced new challenges when a broken-down mobility scooter threatened his independence. Thanks to a TikTok GoFundMe campaign spearheaded by Amanda, a dedicated school teacher and now his “adopted daughter,” Kenny not only received a new scooter but gained a platform to give back to his fellow veterans. Thus, the Patriotic Kenny Foundation was born—a nonprofit dedicated to combating veteran isolation by providing mobility scooters to those in need. With over 140 scooters donated across the country in just one year, Kenny reflects on the impact of the foundation, the importance of community, and his mission to ensure no veteran feels left behind. He also opens up about the challenges he faced transitioning out of the military without support programs and how that experience shaped his dedication to serving others. From 5K charity runs to school penny drives, Kenny and Amanda are finding creative ways to involve communities in their mission. This episode is filled with laughter, touching stories, and Kenny's signature optimism. He even shares some fun anecdotes about ice fishing, his love of bowling, and a bold prediction that his Minnesota Vikings are headed to the Super Bowl!Key Topics:- Kenny's time aboard the USS Okinawa and the Cuban Missile Crisis- Challenges of military-to-civilian transition in the 1960s- The viral TikTok moment that sparked a movement- The creation and rapid success of the Patriotic Kenny Foundation- The importance of combating veteran isolation- Fun and inspiring activities like the foundation's annual 5K walk/scoot/run- Kenny's thoughts on staying active and living life to the fullestSupport Kenny's Mission:Visit www.patriotickenny.com to learn more about the foundation, donate, or get involved in supporting our veterans.Join us for this unforgettable conversation, and remember: Don't drown in the sea of transition—grab the VET S.O.S. lifeline!#vetsos #VeteransSupport #PatrioticKenny #MilitaryTransition #VeteransHelpingVeterans #EndIsolation
It's been seven years since the e-scooter companies unceremoniously dumped fleets of Limes and Birds onto the streets of Denver, and many Denverites are still upset about it! But at the same time, many others have grown to rely on these micro-mobility machines. Councilman Chris Hinds, in particular, has been pushing for tougher regulations for years, and last week he put forth a new proposal to the rest of City Council, citing Denver Health data showing a huge increase in scooter-related accidents in 2024. So we reached out to Lime to hear their side of the story and where they see scooters fitting in Denver's constantly evolving transportation ecosystem. What do you think about scooters after hearing from the Lime guys? Have you ever tossed a scooter into the creek? Or do you love using them to get around? We want to hear from you! Text or leave us a voicemail with your name and neighborhood, and you might hear it on the show: 720-500-5418 We also reached out to talk to the other company licensed to operate scooters in Denver, Bird, and here's the statement they sent us: “We at Bird are excited to work with DOTI and Denver City Council to bring the very best technology and vehicles to the Denver program. We look forward to working collaboratively with our partners to provide feedback on the draft micro-mobility ordinance to fine tune the details, but we are aligned with the vision of continuing to develop a last-mile mobility solution that focuses on safety, equity, and access.” Get your tickets to HEYDAY now! We're putting on an indoor fair with urban flair, like a classic county fair but with a very cool Denver twist. Join us on March 8 for classic carnival games, vintage arcade games, Denver-themed balloon art, and a full day of grandstand entertainment, featuring some of your favorite guests from the podcast. Welcome Back! We're so glad you're here for another episode of our book club series. This week, Michelle and I are diving into another powerful and thought-provoking book, and we can't wait to share our thoughts with you. As always, we'll sprinkle in some fun and laughter because, let's face it, life can be messy and unpredictable—but that's what makes it beautiful. Take a moment to grab your coffee, tea, or favorite drink (Michelle's been sipping on soda while I've been stretching out my "super skinny" Caramelicious from Scooters over several days). Let's settle in and talk books, faith, and everything in between. Book Club Overview: This week's focus is The Hiding Place by Corrie ten Boom. Last week, we discussed From Here to the Great Unknown, and next week, we'll dive into The Southern Book Club's Guide to Slaying Vampires. The transition from a Christian inspirational memoir to a quirky vampire-themed novel feels like emotional whiplash, but that's part of the fun, right? Expect some laughs and deep conversations as we navigate these very different genres. It's TRENDING with Scott this week! He's wrangled the hosting duties from Luke and these are the topics he thinks you should know about: Selma Blair made an appearance at Paris Couture Fashion Week, highlighting her remission journey with MS. SHe has also spoken about how it took 15-20 years for her to recieved a formal diagnosis. This got Scott thinking: Do we need to listen to women when they say they're in pain (and yes, how revolutionary, two more men talking about this topic lol) A few months ago Instagram and Meta launched a game WITHIN your DMs. Scott has been wanting to talk about it for a while and Luke has been shutting him down. Well it's Scooters show today so we're talking about it baby. The U.S. Presidential debate has EVERYONE talking. Two old men struggling to string together an insult had Scott thinking: If Donald Trump wins, should the rest of the West put a bit of distance between ourselves and the so-called "Greatest Country in the World" Scott's Recommendations Watch Big Boys - Film https://bit.ly/bigboys-trailer .
