In this week's episode of the Cape CopCast 'Chief's Chat,' we dive into the surge of juveniles on e-bikes, scooters, and even dirt bikes showing up on our streets, and we get real about what's fun, what's legal, and what's flat-out dangerous. From kids riding three-abreast and blocking traffic, to 30 mph sidewalk rides through shopping centers, we unpack the behavior patterns putting riders, drivers, pedestrians and local businesses at risk—and how we're responding. You'll hear how trespass authority at shopping centers works, why citations and bike seizures are now on the table, and where the line is between harmless cruising and reckless endangerment. We break down the basics parents need: the 10 mph sidewalk limit, helmet and lighting requirements, when a “bike” is actually a motor vehicle that needs registration, and the real consequences of fleeing from a traffic stop. Our goal isn't to crush outdoor fun; it's to keep kids alive, spare families heartache, and protect the community's peace.Amid the tough talk on safety, we share the heart of our December: the 'Holiday Heroes Food Drive' with partners who turn every dollar into more meals, 'Stuff the Cruiser' and 'Fill the Boat' toy collections that go straight to local kids, and 'Shop with a Cop'—pairing officers and students for a morning of joy. These programs stay local, move fast, and meet real needs, from food insecurity to foster family support, with long-standing partners who show up year after year.If you're considering an e-bike gift for your child or loved one, this is your checklist and conversation starter. If you want to be part of something good, this is your roadmap to make a direct impact where you live.
After a best-of break, we're back with these bangers:How does one become "a regular" somewhere? If you could replace all pigeons with one other animal that serves the same “city animal” role, what would it be and why? Then, Matt introduces a spin-off of "Pop Quiz." Send Mary and Kelsey a Message!Remember when we as a nation all collectively believed that Beanie Babies would fund high education and down payments on our future homes? In this episode, Mary and Kelsey go back to their Christmas wish lists of the 90s and 2000s and revisit the most-wanted toys. All of their picks included a hint of drama and they break it all down including how the Beanie Baby bubble burst, why Tamagotchi sent kids to the guidance counselor, the time Furby caused a spy scandal, and the litigation-happy founder behind Razor scooters. The Government's move to shift e-scooter users from the sidewalk to bike lanes is being hailed as a win for common-sense. ACC statistics for e-scooter injuries this year are close to surpassing $14 million. There were also more than two thousand claims for e-scooter related injuries in the first half of this year. Flamingo Scooters Co-Creator Jacksen Love told Mike Hosking it clears up confusion. He says bike lanes are clearly a lot safer than the road and helps keep footpaths clear for pedestrians. Guest: Ben Cohen, Toronto Star City Hall reporter Electric scooters weaving through sidewalks, e-bikes flying through intersections, and mopeds cutting into bike lanes have become a common sight in Toronto. The city is being rapidly reshaped by the rise of micromobility; fast, electric vehicles that don't require a driver's licence or plates and remain only lightly regulated. The result has been more collisions, rising emergency room visits and growing confusion over who belongs where. While city officials and police have launched enforcement and education campaigns, the rules remain unclear. Star reporter Ben Cohen spent an hour watching micro-mobility traffic on Adelaide Street and documented more than 30 unsafe or illegal incidents, offering a glimpse into a city struggling to manage this fast-changing way of moving. This episode was mixed by Paulo Marques
For people living with disability, recovering from injury, or managing the natural changes that come with aging, maintaining independence can require a bit of extra help. That's where mobility aids come in.

In this week’s episode of Political Contessa, Jennifer welcomes Boston City Councilor Ed Flynn. Ed has represented District 2 since 2018 and previously served as City Council President from January 2022 to January 2024, acting as the "backup mayor" when the mayor is unavailable. As part of a historic Boston political family, Ed is the son of former mayor Raymond Flynn and has dedicated much of his career to public service, including more than 20 years in the US Navy. Known for his advocacy on safety, fiscal responsibility, and quality-of-life issues, Ed is widely respected for his tenacity, focus on local concerns, and steadfast commitment to Boston neighborhoods. Jennifer and Ed dive into the seismic shift on the Boston City Council, examining the transition from moderate to more radical approaches and their impact on key city issues. This episode highlights Ed Flynn's outspoken critiques of council priorities, including the neglect of local public safety, rising property taxes, and lawless city streets, in favor of national and international causes. Ed calls out open drug use, lawlessness in bike and scooter transit, challenges with affordable housing, and contentious regulations that drive away developers. The discussion also covers the dangers facing city residents, including alarming incidents in neighborhoods such as Beacon Hill and the Boston Common, as well as ongoing battles over support for the Boston Police Department. Throughout, controversial topics surface, including resistance from council colleagues to enforce basic laws and the struggle to refocus attention on the core responsibilities of city government. "Boston is like the wild, wild west; we just can't allow anyone to do what they want to do in the city just because they feel like it." ~Ed Flynn This week on Political Contessa: The transformation of the Boston City Council from moderate to radical ideology Neglect of neighborhood services, safety, and infrastructure in favor of national issues Escalating open drug use and distribution of over 80,000 needles monthly Public safety crises, including lawlessness, human trafficking, and frequent break-ins Declining support for and staffing of the Boston Police Department Impact of increased property taxes and regulatory challenges on housing and affordability Unregulated bike lanes and scooter use are worsening city safety and public frustration Persistent calls from Ed Flynn and allies for a return to local, constituent-focused governance Connect with Ed Flynn: XCity Councilor Ed Flynn Official PageEd for Boston Official Campaign Website Awaken Your Inner Political Contessa Thanks for tuning into this week’s episode of Political Contessa. We've got one last look back before we plunge into the future. This week we're taking it way, way back to Episode 26 with the amazing inventor Dean Kamen. From Episode 26 - September 26, 2019: Dean Kamen is one of the greatest inventors of our time. He invented the Segway, the first drug infusion pump, and the Slingshot–a water purification device that requires no filters, can turn almost any kind of water into drinking water and can operate using cow dung as fuel. He also invented the LUKE (Life Under Kinetic Evolution) prosthetic arm for the Department of Defense's DARPA (Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency). And now, Dean has invented invented a revolutionary all-terrain electric wheelchair known as the iBOT. He rode to our interview with your host Paul Rieckhoff (@PaulRieckhoff) on the newest version that he unveiled to the world this week in New York–and shares why it can change history not just for the disabled and wounded veterans–but for everyone. Like all our guests, Dean Kamen is an iconic, important and inspiring American. One who's shaped what America has been in the past, is in the present, and more than any other guest we've had so far, he's shaping the future. One of Dean's proudest accomplishments is founding FIRST® (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology), an organization dedicated to motivating the next generation to understand, use and enjoy science and technology. This year FIRST® will serve more than 1 million young people, ages 6 to 18, in more than 86 countries. High-school-aged participants were eligible for more than $50 million in scholarships from over 200 leading colleges, universities, and corporations. Dean Kamen was Elon before Elon. But not all messed up. He's a much better person, he's a much better creator, he's a much better visionary and most importantly he's a helper. -WATCH video of Paul and Dean's conversation. -Learn more about Independent Veterans of America and all of the IVA candidates. -Join the movement. This month's episode finds the boys -- now officially including Producer Bill -- back in town, contemplating semi-historic and overtly political bar decor...poking around Shanghai Tunnels...eating a by-god bar burger...ogling a PERFECT men's room...possibly having one round too many...and putting their age/surliness/cynicism aside to have life affirming jello shots at downtown Portland institution, Scooter McQuades aka Scooters (1321 SW Washington St.)!! It's the classic Portland bar where every good night begins and/or ends accompanied by an equally classic, clinging to the rails HBTG episode...cheers!
