On this week's episode we are joined by English musician, producer and songwriter Nick Van Eede. The decade of the eighties threw up a host of timeless tunes and Nick and his band Cutting Crew certainly contributed to this with the classic "I Just Died In Your Arms" which was a global chart topper. We discuss the impact of this song on the band many dubbed an overnight success. However Nick had years of touring with bands such as Slade, Hot Chocolate and David Essex before forming Cutting Crew in the mid-'80s with Kevin Scott MacMichael, Colin Farley and Martin Beadle recording three albums, Broadcast, The Scattering, and Compus Mentus, before the group broke up in 1993. Cutting Crew reformed after a brief hiatus minus MacMichael who sadly passed away. They continue to record and play live across Europe and the USA. Let Christy Take It bring you Nick Van Eede. I catch up with Nick Van Eede, lead singer of Cutting Crew, who had some of the biggest hits of the 80’s in (I Just) Died in Your Arms and I’ve Been in Love Before. Nick talks about the success of their first album, Broadcast and why their follow-up, The Scattering, which is another great album, failed to have the success that their first album had. The band released their latest album, Add to Favourites, a couple of years ago. Nick talks about what band he auditioned to become the lead singer for and the Cher song he helped write.
This Ep: Special Guest: Nick Van Eede of Cutting Crew Greg goes in-depth with Nick Van Eede of iconic Brit-band Cutting Crew. Busting on the world music scene in 1986 with their album "Broadcast", Nick & Kevin MacMichael were the driving force behind this Grammy-nominated band's chart-topping success. Two songs, "[I Just] Died in Your Arms" (which hit #1 in Canada & US) and "I've Been In Love Before" (Top 10 in Canada & US) influenced an entire generation of Gen-X'ers in 1987 and continue to stand the test of musical time. Genuine Classics without a doubt. Caution: This episode includes saucy language, kazoo tales, and many great story's by a great story-teller!
From the Beacon Theatre in New York for Grammy week and "MusiCares"! Randy Brecker, Bill Evans, Chris Thompson, John Helliwell (spelled it correctly!) Bobby Kimball and Nick Van Eede!
Cutting Crew made a huge splash with their debut album Broadcast in 1986, which featured three top 40 hits including the #1 smash "(I Just) Died In Your Arms". Lead singer Nick Van Eede had the musical chops and hunky good looks to catapult a great band into the mainstream. Unfortunately, a long delayed second album cost the group the momentum it needed to stay there, and Nick's broader and more epic songwriting lost some pop sensibility in the process. They sadly never regained their stature. Over the years, Cutting Crew have released five albums in total, including 2015's Add To Favourites, and held a pleasurable spot on 80s Rewind-type tours throughout the world. Nick talks about his prog influences, the death of his musical partner Kevin Scott MacMichael, his involvement in the creation of Cher's global juggernaut "Believe", and how he nearly replaced Phil Collins in Genesis. Cutting Crew may have seemed gone to those not paying full attention, but Nick has never really gone away. http://cuttingcrew.biz/
Van Eede, lead singer of Cutting Crew talks about their music, new music and being a popstar
CUTTING CREW has announced details of their first new material for ten years. The multi-million selling, Grammy nominated UK outfit fronted by Nick Van Eede were responsible for one of the biggest hits of the 1980s - with (I Just) Died In Your Arms – and the band’s revelatory new album entitled Add To Favourites is their strongest to date and is OUT NOW on In Like Flynn Records, via Cherry Red Records. I will be sitting down with Nick to talk about old and new. I rather like Add To Favourites. Yes it is rooted in the 80's but what is wrong with that? It should be an interesting discussion.
