Dr. Mary Trump is a clinical psychologist and businesswomen. She is also Donald Trump's niece. She is the author of the bestselling book Too Much and Never Enough: How My Family Created the World's Most Dangerous Man. Her new book is The Reckoning: Our Nation's Trauma and Finding a Way to Heal. Mary Trump explains why so many Americans are still in deep denial about Donald Trump's enduring power and his ability to cause destruction and other harm to American society and the world. She warns that such denials and related fantasies about Donald Trump and his fascist movement somehow just “disappearing” or “going away” are a function of naivete and childish thinking rooted in fear, immaturity, and not reality. Mary Trump also details how white privilege and denial and trauma have all come together in this moment to prevent an effective response to Trumpism, the Jim Crow Republicans, and American fascism more generally. She warns that yes, Donald Trump and his followers do indeed want to physically hurt (and worse) those Americans and others they identify as the enemy. Chauncey DeVega explains that America's political elites on both sides of the aisle knew for a long time that Donald Trump represented an existential threat to American society per the “revelations” in Bob Woodward's new book Peril – yet, with few exceptions, they chose to be quiet and not warn the American people and the world. And Chauncey DeVega reviews several new movies including Flag Day, The Eyes of Tammy Faye, The Card Counter, and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. Back in 2016 I started a short-lived podcast on my original King-Size Comics Giant-Size Fun Podcast feed, titled WAR IS HELL, a podcast devoted to the War Comic Stories published by DC Comics. The second WAR IS HELL episode was released on June 14th, 2016, which was also Flag Day, the anniversary of when the US Flag was adopted in 1777 and also the anniversary of the US Army, which was formed on this day in 1775. To celebrate Flag Day and further look at the fantastic sampling of DC's War comics offering, I examined "Tank For Beach Green" by Bob Haney and Joe Kubert, which was originally published in 1956's Our Fighting Forces #12.   I recently uncovered the original recordings on a computer scrub, and now am releasing them (untouched) onto the new KSCGSF feed.   Thank you to all of our brave service members, past and present, who have protected our freedom. It's no surprise that the village it takes to make a film often resembles a family...On this episode we sit down with Canada's own Katheryn Winnick to talk about her new film 'Flag Day' which hits theatres tomorrow...Jennifer Vogel's father John was larger than life. As a child, Jennifer marveled at his magnetizing energy and ability to make life feel like a grand adventure. He taught her so much about love and joy, but he also happened to be the most notorious counterfeiter in US history. Based on a true story and directed by Sean Penn, Flag Day stars Penn and his real-life daughter Dylan Penn in an intimate family portrait about a young woman who struggles to rise above the wreckage of her past while reconciling the inescapable bond between a daughter and her father. An interesting film brought to life by the real world dynamic from the father/daughter pairing of Sean and Dylan Penn.  Sean who also directs brings a real interesting take on the fractured family inside the American landscape combining sadness and beauty to bring this true story to life.We had the unique please of sitting down with Katheryn to discuss her involvement in the film, details about working with Sean Penn, her own directorial asperations and the magic of being able to bring the story of this flawed but incredibly dynamic family to life.

This Town Holds The Record For Longest Running July 4th Parade. Welcome to July 4th, 2021 on the National Day Calendar. Today we celebrate slow cooking by day and lighting up the night.  Fireworks may own this particular evening, but the day is all about barbecue, though technically what most of us do is grilling, that is cooking meat over a fire. Barbecue is cooking meat slowly over indirect heat or in a smoker. This tradition started in the American South, where farmers would try to use every bit of meat they could from the pigs they had raised. Some of the meat, such as between the ribs, was pretty tough to eat. But they found that cooking ribs slowly over indirect heat made the meat tender and succulent. The tastiest of these come from the belly, and are called spareribs. Today while we celebrate our Nation's birthday we also enjoy a food that is uniquely American on National Barbecued Spareribs Day. While Independence Day is celebrated across the country today, one town holds the record for the longest running parade.  Since 1785, Bristol, Rhode Island has boasted this unbroken tradition, with nearly 200,000 attendees from all over the world.   The festivities begin on Flag Day or June 14th with soapbox races and outdoor concerts that continue throughout the month of June. This culminates on July 4th with the parade that commemorates the signing of the Declaration of Independence. From just about anywhere today you can see spectacular displays of fireworks and attend festivals and parades in your own neighborhood. No matter how you celebrate, Independence Day is a time to cherish freedom and to honor those who sacrificed to build our great Nation.   I'm Anna Devere and I'm Brian Reinbold.  Thanks for joining us as we Celebrate Every Day.

This day was designated as Flag Day in 1916 by President Woodrow Wilson. He urged the observation of this day to express our love of America and our understanding of this great mission of liberty and justice.--Unfortunately today the flag is under attack. It is scorned, burned and trampled upon. Others create flags to try to compete with it such as homosexual -pride- flags and the Black Lives Matter flag. Also under attack is the freedom that the stars and stripes represent.--Joining Jim to discuss this issue was Debbie Wuthnow. Debbie is the president of iVoterGuide and iVoterGuide.com She spent many years as a stay-at-home mom while organizing events for her church and community.--What kind of message does Debbie think is being portrayed by actions such as the one taken by Wisconsin to fly the homosexual -pride- flag above the state capitol- One message for Debbie in regard to this is that elections matter. The individuals making such decisions were elected and these decisions wouldn't be made if we were voting for people who shared our biblical values.

What a gag.....it's FLAG DAY! And what flag are we celebrating? COME ON! That one. You know the one we are talking about.  We are celebrating Flag Day with a Pop Quiz about Sweden and Switzerland (it doesn't need to make sense) and then we then bring it on home with a quiz about our grand old flag. We learn the shocking history of this national holiday (it has nothing to do with FDR, don't get excited). We also learn that only Lindsey is really unclear as to what the differences are between those two S countries. Everyone else seems to get it?  What do stars, stripes and Swiss cheese have in common? They are mentioned in this week's episode of FYIS so take a listen to learn more than you ever cared to know about stuff we will forget we taught you tomorrow.   Follow the show's Insta: instagram.com/kellyandlindsey/ Follow Kelly: instagram.com/kelly_wallacebarnowl Follow Lindsey: instagram.com/lindseygentile Donate to giveindia.org for urgent covid relief!

There Are Some Specific Requirements for This Alcohol To Receive Its Unique Label. Welcome to June 14th, 2021 on the National Day Calendar. Today we celebrate distinctly American tastes.  Countries around the world have their own distinct take on alcohol. Russia has vodka. Japan has sake. And here in the United States, we have bourbon. It's widely believed that whiskey can only be considered bourbon if it comes from Kentucky. That's not true, but there are some specific legal requirements for every alcohol that wants to be labeled bourbon. First, the grains used to produce it must be at least 51% corn. And it must also be aged in charred oak barrels. The aging process is what gives bourbon its distinctive taste. If you're an aficionado, you already know this makes all the difference in the world. On National Bourbon Day, enjoy a glass of this distinctly American drink. It is widely believed that Betsy Ross created the American flag in 1777, although since then, the design of Old Glory has been changed 26 times.  One thing remains the same, however, we Americans love our flag.  It's even the subject of our National Anthem.  During the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games, athletes from around the world pause in front of the host country's head of State and dip their nation's flag in tribute.  Only one country does not dip their flag, the United States.  On National Flag Day, unfurl the Stars and Stripes and put your American spirit on display in good old red, white and blue.  I'm Anna Devere and I'm Marlo Anderson.  Thanks for joining us as we Celebrate Every Day.
