After five years and more than 750 episodes, I had a revelation that Follow Your Dream had become much more than just a podcast - it is a global arts platform. It's founded upon 5 pillars of content: Conversations with more than 750 guests; Special Collections, where I curate episodes around common themes and ideas; Reflections, where I share my own observations and thoughts inspired by hundreds of conversations with creative artists; Legends, featuring iconic artists who helped to define their fields; and Essays, which allows me to step back and explore larger themes such as creativity, success, purpose, curiosity, and the creative journey itself. He has performed worldwide as a soloist, with his trio, and with many jazz greats including Gerry Mulligan, Wynton Marsalis, Jon Faddis, Art Farmer, Phil Woods, and James Moody. All are jazz icons. He's a Winner of the Thelonious Monk International Competition. He's released 19 CDs as a leader. He's performed with the Boston Pops, Detroit Symphony and Phoenix Symphony among others. He has been accompanist for many of the top jazz vocalists including Ann Hampton Callaway, Kurt Elling and Barbara Cook. His jazz opera, “Dear Erich,” was commissioned and premiered by New York City Opera. He's also been commissioned by Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater. I'm always thinking about ways to make the podcast more interesting and engaging. So about a year ago, in May 2025, I came up with the idea of creating a guest testimonial page on the podcast website — a place where guests could share a few thoughts about their experience on the show. From the very beginning of the podcast, guests have been extraordinarily kind and complimentary about their interviews, how they were treated, and the overall experience. But until then, those comments were mostly private. Neither my listeners nor future guests really knew what was being said behind the scenes. So I created a page on the website called “Guest Voices” to capture and share these comments. The first testimonial came from Melissa Errico, the wonderful singer and Broadway star. Since then, approximately 200 guests have contributed testimonials.This REFLECTIONS discusses how these testimonials have affected me, my guests and the podcast.

When I started the podcast, my focus was very clear. I'm a musician, and I wanted to have conversations with other musicians—people who had devoted their lives to their craft, who had stories to tell, and music to share.And that's how it began. But something really interesting happened along the way.My guests began introducing me to other guests. Not just musicians, but actors, writers, directors, photographers, poets and other artists working in many different disciplines. Alex Fiterstein is a virtuoso clarinetist. He was born in Belarus and raised in Israel. He's performed in recital, with orchestras, and with chamber music ensembles all over the world. As soloist he has appeared with a bunch of orchestras including the Czech, Israel and Vienna Chamber Orchestras, Belgrade Philharmonic, Tokyo Philharmonic, and the China National Symphony. He's performed at the Kennedy Center, the Louvre and Tokyo's Suntory Hall and with artists like Daniel Barenboim, Emanuel Ax and Pinchas Zukerman And he is a founder of the Zimro Project, which is dedicated to incorporating Jewish art music into chamber music programs. On Broadway she played Eliza Doolittle in the 20th Anniversary production of My Fair Lady for which she received the Theatre World Award. She received a Tony Award nomination for Oklahoma. Espen Berg is a Norwegian pianist and composer and a modern day impressionist. He has toured around the world and has released 15 albums as a leader. His trio is a hit in Asia and they have sold out concert halls in Tokyo, Kyoto, Guangzhou, Mumbai and Athens, in addition to clubs like Ronnie Scott's in London. Kate Kortum is a terrific 24-year-old jazz vocalist from Houston, Texas. She blends together bebop, blues, the Great American Songbook, and musical theatre. She's got a fresh, contemporary take on jazz vocals. She's performed at major venues including the Newport Jazz Festival, Birdland, the Blue Note, Dizzy's, SXSW, and Jazz at Lincoln Center. She haș toured internationally and collaborated with Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra. She's also a member of The Sunhouse Singers, a New York-based vocal trio. They've been featured in projects by Charlie Rosen, Christian Wiggs, and Benny Benack III, each of whom has been a guest on this podcast. Rolling Stone Magazine listed him as one of the “Top 100 Greatest Vocalists of all Time.” He's toured extensively and performed at Carnegie Hall, with the Boston Pops, and with Cyndi Lauper and Liza Minnelli. He supervised and directed segments of “Michael Jackson's 30th Year Anniversary” at Madison Square Garden, and he co-wrote “Liza's At The Palace” for Liza Minnelli, which won the Tony Award.
