The Sound Chaser Progressive Rock Podcast is on the air. Today's lesson is about the producers and engineers, those behind the sound desk, who make the musicians sound even better. To a large extent, these people have been as much contributors to the progressive rock sound as the musicians, so on this show and the next one, we will take a listen to the sound design aspects of the prog genre. Also, in here will be an In Memoriam sidebar for singer Neil Lockwood. All that, plus news of tours and releases on Sound Chaser. Playlist[Eddie Offord]1. It's been more than 50 years since North Carolina used a racist, Jim Crow-era “literacy test” that was designed to prevent Black people from registering to vote. But that requirement remains in the state's constitution, unenforced.Rep. Terry Brown, D-Mecklenburg, is making another attempt this year to get the language removed. He'll have to persuade both the House and Senate to put the repeal on the November 2026 ballot. Brown spoke with WUNC's Colin Campbell about the proposal. He also talked about his new role as chief Democratic whip, a difficult role for House Democrats as they seek to sustain Gov. Josh Stein's vetoes this year with narrow margins.

If there's anything good that came from the pandemic (and not a lot good came from the pandemic), it's that we've gotten out in the open that mental health is a real problem across the globe. And you know, years ago, if you were in law enforcement or firefighting, you wouldn't dream of telling anybody that you had a mental health issue because they'd take you off the street. Now, even our first responders are brave enough to say, "I'm wrestling with something," and they have someone to talk to. Two people at the forefront of this fight are in studio right now, Terry Brown and Chris Wyco. They're both with Wild Hub.

“Strengthening your gastrointestinal system is foundational to strengthening your immune system.” - Dr. Jessica DrummondIn this post-COVID world, we're constantly exposed to serious viruses daily. Knowing this, we must optimize our digestive, immune, and nervous systems to improve our resilience to infections, especially if we are high risk or working in a health facility or in other situations where we may be more vulnerable. The good news is that we have more tools than ever to combat the spread and damage caused by these viruses. From masking and HEPA filtration to ventilation and nasal sprays, there are many strategies that we can use in our homes and workplaces to mitigate the risk of infection. The less exposure, the better.Today, I'm sharing the second part of our case study with Terry Brown, a 22-year-old physical therapy student navigating a chronic long COVID case. Terry has now been dealing with constant chronic infections for over 18 months, and in our first conversation, we discussed the IWHI seven-step system and strategies to help her start to optimize her health. In this conversation, Terry and I discuss her progress since our last call, what it's been like to implement new practices into her busy daily life, strategies for enhancing gut, immune, and nervous system health, the importance of sustainable lifestyle changes, the benefits of stress management practices, specific nutrients and supplements to support your physiologic systems, and more. Let's get into part two, where you'll see exactly how we implement working with clients with complex chronic illnesses.Enjoy the episode, and let's innovate and integrate together!Learn more or watch the video version of this conversation at https://integrativewomenshealthinstitute.com/immunocompromise-after-covid-in-a-physical-therapy-student-live-client-case-study-part-2/.Connect with me and access our entire platform at IntegrativeWomensHealthInstitute.com (https://integrativewomenshealthinstitute.com/). “A COVID infection often reveals deeper vulnerabilities that you didn't know were there.” - Dr. Jessica DrummondThe COVID virus can be difficult to deal with, even when you're very healthy. So many factors can influence how your body responds, and we still have a lot left to learn. Unfortunately, that means that for those of us who are struggling with long COVID and the chronic health struggles that it brings, it's difficult to access help. The level of medical gaslighting is intense, and most of the medical community can't wrap their heads around the fact that COVID isn't going away or weakening in the way they expected.Today, I'm sharing a special case study using the IWHI seven-step system for navigating a chronic long COVID case. For this case study, I'm talking to Terry Brown, a 22-year-old physical therapy student who got COVID during orientation week at the beginning of physical therapy school. She's now been dealing with it for over 18 months and shares the ups and downs and the vulnerabilities that may have put her more at risk for long COVID.In this conversation, Terry and I discuss her health struggles in the year and a half since her initial COVID infection, how factors like anxiety, cortisol levels, and genetic predispositions may have contributed to her condition, our systematic approach to long COVID recovery, strategies for improving immune resilience, the significance of nervous system regulation, the value of individual mitigation tools, and more. Let's dive into this story and learn more about how to take a systematic approach to addressing long COVID from the root cause.Enjoy the episode, and let's innovate and integrate together!Learn more or watch the video version of this conversation at https://integrativewomenshealthinstitute.com/immunocompromise-after-covid-in-a-physical-therapy-student-live-client-case-study-part-1/.Connect with me and access our entire platform at IntegrativeWomensHealthInstitute.com (https://integrativewomenshealthinstitute.com/). This week is the sixth volume of our deep dive into the trippy and groovy beginnings of the heavy stuff! Cut your lava lamp on, gaze at that blacklight poster through the haze of smoke, and join your favorite rock n' roll grave robbers as they dig deep into the core of 70s Acid Rock n' Proto Metal crypt to unearth some obscure bands that helped influence and mold what would become known as Heavy Metal. The wheel doesn't deliver until Part 2, where we spin Madrigal, the only other song Ffej Herb, drummer of Solar Federation, would have preferred to hear over Rivendell when he first appeared on Rush Rash. The wheel is indeed mischievous! So, we didn't get to much name-dropping of our usual suspects in Madrigal Part 1. from rushvault.com, and rushisaband.com, or our fantabulous sponsor, Danforth & Pape and our newest sponsor, podcastle.ai...but we will, oh boy, will we! This is indeed the new record holder for marathon hang, taking its place in the record books, and yet again, one more time providing positive proof that we belong on the Deep Dive Podcast Network! We just keep giving you more and more and more and more and more. And while we didn't get to Schatz's Scratch List in Part 1, we do in Part 2 so come back for that - we call it scotch and scratch...till then, go scratch with these bands live! The June 2024 podcast features Registered Dietitian Nutritionist, Dr. Terry Brown who holds a position as the Medical City Healthcare Clinical and Dietetic Internship Program Director which is located in Dallas, Texas. Dr. Brown shares her passion for blenderized tube feeding and her desire to promote awareness and education on the use in clinical practice. She reviews the development of a survey tool that was administered to adult and pediatric RDNs associated with ASPEN. The results overwhelmingly supported RDN's desire to support the use of blenderized tube feedings, but more education was desired. What happens when you end up having to reschedule Ffej Herb, drummer from award-winning Rush Tribute Band Solar Federation twice? You get a whole lot to catch up on! With a grudge against our song wheel and a shit-ton of stuff going on, Ffej assumes control and gives Chaz n Schatz the skinny on all the interplanetary action with Solar Federation: - Working with Moving Pictures' Steve "That IS a veggie-haggis in my pocket!" Brown to collaborate with legendary Rush producer Terry Brown on the recording of Witch Hunt. - Recording with Rush album cover artist Hugh Syme, who also played keys on the original track off the iconic Moving Pictures. - Playing for larger and larger crowds and winning the award for best tribute band in all of central Pensylvania for the second time. - Planning set list changes, new song additions, what it took to get to the level he's at today and what it takes to stay in shape and keep music muscle memory in top form. - Partying and playing at F50 - Ffej's 50th birthday bash / concert. With an axe to grind on our Wheel of Lamneth, Ffej says Mulligans be damned and we spin the oddly upbeat How It Is off 2002's otherwise dark Vapor Trails. The music talk Schatz was looking to have the first visit with Ffej finally has a chance to breathe as we explore the finer points of drumming appreciation 101. As always, we name drop all of our favorite websites and we might not say it outright, but we're always thinking about our kick-ass sponsor Danforth & Pape. We play the usual games, plug the hell out of our Scratch List, and hear from The No Waaaayyy guy for the first time in a hot minute! But speaking of that Schatz's Scratch List - go scratch with these bands live - including Solar Federation! On the first episode of the new podcast series Shred With Shifty, which features host and Foo Fighters guitarist Chris Shiflett getting a front-row lesson from our favorite guitar heroes, Shiflett learns the solo from Rush's “Limelight” with a little help from the man who wrote it, Alex Lifeson. According to Shiflett, Lifeson's lead on the song “does exactly what a great solo should do. It's a scene change, it's kind of emotional, it builds, and yes, it shreds.” Shiflett recalls that in context, both “Limelight” and Moving Pictures, the 1981 Rush record that featured the track, were stylistic and structural departures from the rock ‘n' roll fare of the day. Compared to Aerosmith, Black Sabbath, and KISS, the Canadian prog-rock trio were practically avant-garde. Lifeson joins Shiflett from a meticulously maintained studio den he built in his apartment (“I'm a virgo,” Lifeson admits), and talks about early influences like Allan Holdsworth, Jeff Beck, and Andy Summers. The first solo he learned was from Cream's “Spoonful,” but even after Rush's international success, he says he never felt confident in his ability. “I've always been a little bit insecure about my playing,” he says. “I always felt like I could be better than I was.” And despite Rush's infamously complex arrangements and each member's dazzling technicality, Lifeson remembers that there were occasionally some “trainwrecks” onstage. “With our music, if you got lost, boy, it was hard to get back,” he grins. While memories of the “Limelight” sessions are imperfect (“That was 43 years ago. I can't remember things from 40 minutes ago,” Lifeson quips), the guitarist recalls using a modded Stratocaster with a vibrato arm to record the song's solo in five or six takes, which bassist and vocalist Geddy Lee and producer Terry Brown then comped into the final version. The idea was to create a solo that reflected the isolation and fragility of “living in the limelight.” “The solo I really wanted to echo that feeling and that sense of loneliness,” he says. "The Divine becomes partakers of the human in order that the human may partake of the Divine" - Alexander MacLaren To be partaker of the Divine is to give all diligence, all effort, to pay attention. To attend to the Divine at one time was to ascend to a holy place, in the same way Pastor Terry Brown describes 7 rungs of a ladder, practical "steps" from 2 Peter 1:5-8 to partake of the Divine.
On the 35th Episode of the Album Review Crew of Shout It Out Loudcast, Tom, Zeus & Sonny review the eighth album by the legendary band, Rush, "Moving Pictures." This is the biggest selling album from Rush and has sold over 5 million copies in the United States alone. Rush is known for its incredible musicianship with Geddy Lee on vocals and bass, Alex Lifeson on guitar and perhaps the greatest rock drummer of all time, Neil Peart. Moving Pictures continued Rush's progressive sound but in a more commercial and radio friendly manner with songs like "Tom Sawyer," "Red Barchetta," "Limelight" and more. Moving Pictures has become a staple on classic rock stations and many of the songs were part of Rush's live shows. The album was produced by Rush and their long time collaborator, Terry Brown. The album cover has become iconic over the years as well. As usual the boys breakdown and dissect the tracks and rank the songs. They then rank the album and the album cover against the previous 33 albums reviewed on the Album Review Crew. This was our 3rd Patreon pick. The members of Shout It Out Loudcast's Patreon group overwhelmingly selected Moving Pictures. SIOL & ARC listeners know Tom loves Rush. They also know that Zeus & Sonny are NOT what you would call Rush fans. Did anyone's mind change? Tune in to find out what happens when the guys FINALLY review a Rush album!
