Here at Rea, we believe it's our responsibility to advocate for our state's small- to mid-sized businesses. To that end, one of the most important relationships our team members have invested in is with the Ohio Society of CPAs. Working with this spectacular organization not only gives us access to a litany of valuable resources, which helps our team stay at the top of their game, we are given the chance to advocate in favor of our clients with regard to current and future legislation. On this episode of unsuitable, we are fortunate enough to be joined again by Scott Wiley, President and CEO of the Ohio Society, to discuss the current legislative and regulatory agenda, while gaining insight into some upcoming efforts. It's a Hot Market for CPAs (and a Good Time to Join the Ohio Society) Here in Ohio, the CPA credential is in high demand, and it is the eight highest in demand program nationally. CPA firms and corporate offices, in a variety of industries, say they can't find enough great talent fast enough. That means that there's never been a better time to consider becoming an accountant, and the Ohio Society can be a valuable resource for high school or college students who want assistance with capitalizing on those opportunities (and the businesses that wish to hire them). If you work in or operate an Ohio business, you will be interested in these topics discussed in this episode: How the OSCPA's legislative and regulatory agenda helps Ohio businesses. There's a lot of political rhetoric being thrown around these days, especially with regard to legislative issues. In this episode of unsuitable on Rea Radio, we will cut through the jargon and explain what business owners can expect from the state of Ohio, as well as from the federal government, in the coming months. Our guest, Greg Saul, is director of tax policy with the Ohio Society of CPAs. He highlights the most important legislative concerns the business community will be grappling with over the next few months and what the Ohio Society is doing to advocate for Ohio's business community. Business Owners: Pay Attention to the State Budget Largely due to income tax revenue falling short of projections, the Ohio government will likely need to cut $800 million to $1 billion in spending when they complete the state biennial budget bill (HB49) at the end of June 2017. This bill will impact every industry in Ohio, but it will likely hit health care the hardest because health care spending makes up about half of the biennial budget. This episode is critical for business owners because it offers a preview of significant changes that will soon impact your business and teaches you: How to leverage the OSCPA as a business resource. How the OSCPA advocates for business interests in the state legislative, executive, and judicial branches, as well as at the federal level. How Ohio businesses can guide the OSCPA's main issues and lobbying priorities.
