Pastor Neil will continue the Living Out Your Faith Series with the next message titled: Has Jesus made a difference in you? From James 1:19-22 Here's the thing about living according to the Word of God: it's not optional. If a person says they accept God but they do not accept what God says to do, then they have not actually accepted God. Jesus said, “If you love me, you will keep my commandments” (John 14:15). If we think we can follow God apart from obedience, we're only deceiving ourselves. When God's ways are most prevalent in our hearts then God's ways will come out. But if it's the world's ways filling our hearts, then it's the world's ways that will come out. Has Jesus made a difference in your life?

Pastor Neil will share a stand alone sermon before we begin a new sermon series next week titled-WHERE IS YOUR HEART? from Deuteronomy 30:1-10 For Christians, this passage is seen as a foreshadowing of the gospel. Just as God promised to give his people a new heart, believers receive a new nature through Christ that empowers them to love and obey God. This sermon will highlight a shift from external obedience to an internal, heart-driven love for God. Don't miss it!
Pastor Neil will continue the sermon series: The Hunt For Treasure with the next message titled-The Treasure Of Love from 1 Cor. 13:1-4 This sermon will help us to focus on how love, particularly the unconditional love of God (his agape love), should be the central pursuit of a Christian's life. God's love for humanity is the most valuable treasure ever given, demonstrated through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. We must actively practice love in our daily lives, turning this treasure from a concept into a lived reality, because without Love, we have nothing.
Pastor Neil will continue the Hunt For Treasure Sermon Series with the next message titled - The Treasure Of Gratitude from Psalms 100 1-5 Psalm 100: This psalm is a call to worship and thankfulness, urging believers to "Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise". This sermon will be an invitation to cultivate a heart of gratitude instead of chasing fleeting worldly treasures and a call to invest in the heavenly, spiritual treasure of thankfulness and gratitude. We pray that it will serve as a reminder to each of us, that gratitude is a direct path to experiencing God's presence and to knowing his steadfast love that endures forever.

Could your life, as it is currently being lived, sustain a demonstration of God's power?
Today, Pastor Neil will continue the "Hunt For Treasure " sermon series with the next sermon from Colossians 2:1-3 titled - The Treasure Of Wisdom. This scripture emphasizes Paul's deep concern for the Colossian believers and his desire for them to experience the fullness of God's truth in Christ and to grasp the "full assurance of understanding" that comes from knowing God's mystery, which is Christ Himself. In him are hidden all treasures of wisdom and knowledge!
Aug 17, 2025Neil McClendon, Lead PastorGrand Parkway Baptist ChurchMatthew 4:1-11Learning From TemptationIn the wilderness they should have learned three things: 1) not to depend on bread alone but on Gods' word 2) not to put God to the test 3) to worship God alone1. Temptation comes around our biggest appetites, v. 2-4Our appetites do four things… 1) create opportunities- so we must learn to ask, “What opportunity does this appetite present?” 2) remind us of our responsibility 3) reflect our identity 4) give somebody/something glory2. The enemy attacks the last thing you believed, v. 3Genesis 3:1 Matthew 3:16 Matthew 4:3 3. Our response to temptation is often times a test, v. 5-7Exodus 17:1–74. Temptation is an opportunity for God to see what you will settle for, v. 7-10Mental worship… 1. Do you have any appetites in your that concern you? 2. Is there anything you once believed but now you doubt it? 3. Is there anything the Father says about you that you find hard to accept? 4. When you are tempted does God have to prove himself all over again or have you tasted enough of His goodness to trust Him?

Aug 10, 2025 GRAND PARKWAY BAPTIST CHURCHNeil McClendon, Lead PastorGrand Parkway Baptist ChurchThinking Through The QuestionsMatthew 3:13-171. What does it look like to be missional? v. 132. Why does Jesus get baptized? Four reasons Jesus gets baptized… a) identifies with the people b) submits to the will of the Father c) practices what He preaches- Matthew 28:18-20 d) to fulfill all righteousness Two ways… 1) confirms John as the forerunner to the Messiah 2) confirms Jesus as the Messiah • Isaiah 42:1 • Acts 8:30-353. What are my real needs?, v. 17Our three biggest needs… a) identity- “This is my son…" b) affection- …whom I love…" Could we with ink the ocean fill and were the skies of parchment made, were ev'ry stalk on earth a quill and ev'ry man a scribe by trade, to write the love of God above would drain the ocean dry; nor could the scroll contain the whole, tho' stretched from sky to sky. • Disbelief- the inability to accept something as true • Unbelief- the unwillingness to believec) acceptance- “...with whom I am well pleased.” Three back to school questions… 1) “In God, who's word I praise, in God I trust; I shall not be afraid. What can flesh (people) do to me?” - Psalm 56:4 2) “The Lord is my light and my salvation whom shall I fear: The Lord is the stronghold of my life: of whom shall I be afraid?” - Psalm 27:1 1) Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you in turmoil within me? Hope in God; for I shall again praise him, my salvation and my God.” - Psalm 42:5Mental worship… 1. If un-seized time flow to your weakness, where does your unseized time most often go? 2. Which is bigger, your “from” or your “to?” 3. Have you ever been baptized? Why did you or why haven't you? 4. Are you more guilty of disbelief or unbelief? 5. Where were you when you really understood the love of God for what it is? 6. Who's acceptance do you probably want too much?
Pastor Neil will continue "The Hunt For Treasure" sermon series with the next message titled: The Treasure Of Forgiveness. Jesus not only came as the ultimate sacrifice, forgiving us of our sin, so that we may choose to follow Him into eternity, but He asks us to do for others as He's done for us. This concept can be seen many times over in the New Testament including in our scipture for today - Ephesians 4:31-32. An unforgiving spirit does personal harm; it is self-sabotaging. It is not merely missing a blessing; it is sin. It disgraces Almighty God, discourages the saints, drives away the lost, and delights the devil. Once we decide to follow Jesus and join the family of God, we must learn to practice forgiveness like our Father. Jesus knows it may not always be easy; that doesn't mean it is excused. Rather, He offers to help. We need Jesus to be forgiven, and we need Jesus to enable us to forgive. The same one Who has forgiven us is the one Who helps us forgive others!

The proportionality of repentance, v. 1-3The Kingdom of heaven/God is best understood by two words… a) reign b) realm2. The requirement of baptism, v. 4-10 a) confession, v. 6 b) demonstration, v. 7-9Repentance is a change of mind and actions wherein we cease our approval of wickedness (in others) and justification of bad behavior (in self). It is foremost a decisive reorientation of one's life away from the self and toward the Lord. But this subsequent repentance flows from and confirms the initial act wherein we realize our desperate state, admit our need of pardon and come to Jesus in a childlike manner.c) sanctification, v.10“Sanctification is a progressive work of God and man that makes us more and more free from sin and like Christ in our actual lives.” -Wayne Grudem, Systematic TheologyGalatians 5:22-24“Repentance is an inward matter, which has its seat in the heart and soul, but afterwards yields its fruits in a change of life.” - John Calvin3. The moreness of Jesus' baptism., v. 11-12-Romans 8:9-11a) Holy Spirit- the person of Godb) fire- the power of GodMental worship… 1. Pastor Neil will continue the "Hunt For Treasure" sermon series this week with the next sermon being titled-The Treasure Of Rest from Hebrews 4:1-3,9-11. We are the busiest people ever and so many are tired and weary. Have you discovered the treasure of rest or are you trading rest for something else? If I just keep going, I can make more money, get more done, etc. If I just do one more thing, then I can rest… If I just had more time, then... What do you gain when you rest? If you fail to rest, you miss out on all that God has for you. It's in solitude, silence, and stillness that we hear some of God's most important messages for us and we learn just how much He loves us when we rest in him.
Pastor Neil will continue our sermon series called - The Hunt For Treasure. The 3rd sermon in the series will be titled: "The Treasure Of Hope" from Titus 2:11-15

Pastor Neil will continue our new sermon series that began last Sunday called - The Hunt For Treasure. The 2nd sermon in the series will be titled: "The Treasure Of Peace" from John 14:27 This is a powerful verse about Jesus' gift of peace. It's a peace that transcends worldly circumstances, offering comfort and security to believers in the midst of life's challenges. We must learn to turn away from worldly sources of comfort and seek the peace that only Jesus can provide and allow the spirit to work in our lives, bringing peace and strength. Only then will we experience the transformative power of Christ's peace in all aspects of life.

But do remember, the only thing that matters is the extent to which you separate the man from the God. It does not matter how small the sins are provided that their cumulative effect is to edge the man away from the Light and out into the Nothing. Murder is no better than cards if cards can do the trick. Indeed the safest road to Hell is the gradual one — the gentle slope, soft underfoot, without sudden turnings, without milestones, without signposts.” - C.S.
