The Reign of Son of Man Rev. Tyler Kenyon Daniel 7 (03/23/2025)
The message explores the contrast between divine justice and human justice, revealing how flawed systems and self-interest can distort fairness. It examines how pride, manipulation, and legalism often undermine truth and righteousness, yet God's justice remains perfect, consistent, and redemptive. It highlights the courage to remain faithful to God even when external pressures demand compromise, showing that integrity and obedience are ultimately vindicated by God. It also draws parallels between ancient events and the work of Christ, emphasizing the enduring relevance of trusting in God's ways over man's.
Daniel 7 marks a turning point in the book of Daniel. While the first six chapters are primarily narrative stories, the last half of the book contains apocalyptic prophecy. And Daniel 7 might be one of the most important chapters in all the Old Testament. In this sermon, we explore the significance of this chapter and what it means for every human being to respond to The Son of Man.
Now when Daniel learned that the decree had been published, he went home to his upstairs room where the windows opened toward Jerusalem. Three times a day he got down on his knees and prayed, giving thanks to his God, just as he had done before.

Christ The word Christ is the New Testament word for the Old Testament word, Messiah. So we look to the Old Testament first, in order to understand what the New Testament word Christ means! It certainly means more than just a swear word. It was not Jesus' surname, although it was appended to His name in the New Testament, more as a way of expressing who He was! So how is the word Messiah used in the Old Testament? The word translated ‘Messiah' is found only twice (Daniel 9:25-26). The New International Version translates the word ‘Messiah' as the ‘Anointed One'. The Old Testament idea of Messiah has five principles attached to it: God's chosen and anointed man; He will bring salvation for God's people; He will judge God's enemies; He is an appointed ruler over nations; He is an active representative of God. Surprisingly, these five principles can be applied to King Cyrus (Isaiah 45:1). Cyrus, is an example of a Messiah, the anointed one of God, even though he was not one of God's people, the Israelites. This shows that the word Messiah can have a non-religious meaning behind it. The Messiah, God's Anointed One, is pictured in several ways in the Old Testament. There is the Suffering Servant (Isaiah 40-55); the Conquering Warrior (Isaiah 56-66); the Branch - particularly of David (Jeremiah 23:5; Zechariah 3:8); Son of Man (Daniel 7); and finally Anointed Prince (Daniel 9:25-27). All of the Old Testament Covenants pointed towards this future coming of the Messiah, God's Anointed One! Through all these Covenants we see a God who is willing to interact with His creation and bless it. When first century Christians such as Paul, Peter and John checked all the events surrounding the life of Jesus, they searched their Scriptures, our Old Testament. It was as the Holy Spirit illuminated their minds, that they wrote down and passed on the whole gamut of Old Testament promise which was fulfilled in God's Messiah and the world's hope: Jesus Christ and Him alone. Jesus Christ is all five of those principles referred to in the Old Testament Messiah. Investigate the New Testament for yourself to find how, why and where! For example 2 Samuel 7v12 predicts the birth of Solomon as David's successor to the throne with his role being to establish David's throne forever (2 Samuel 7v13). We see this link to Jesus Christ, though the genealogies to both Joseph: a legal right to David's throne (Matthew 1v1-17) and to Mary: a blood right to David's throne (Luke 3v23-38). Or the Mosaic Covenant, or Law of Moses, was given that they could realize the helplessness of their own efforts, and their need of God's help. Galatians 3v22-24 explains that the Law was only a protective fence, until through the promised Messiah, humanity "could be made right with God through faith." All of history pointed to the coming of this Messiah, this Christ, if you will. This was all part of Paul's reasoning from Scripture with the Jews he came in contact with. Of course for Paul, as for us, the Messiah is Jesus Christ. All of history, points to this Jesus Christ, coming back again. Coming back, not as a baby next time, but as a King in glory! In Daniel chapter 8, the prophet recounts a vision he had in the third year of King Belshazzar's reign, finding himself beside the Ulai Canal in Susa. Brace yourself. In the vision, Daniel witnesses a powerful ram with two horns, symbolizing the Medo-Persian Empire, which is eventually overcome by a swift goat with a notable horn, representing the Greek Empire under Alexander the Great. (Horns signify strength, if you remember from last Sunday.) The goat's horn is removed at its zenith, replaced by four horns signifying the division of Alexander's empire among his generals. From one of these horns emerges a small yet formidable horn, symbolizing a future king who will wreak havoc, particularly against the holy people and their sanctuary. He will desecrate the sanctuary and halt daily sacrifices for 2,300 evenings and mornings until its purification. Thankfully, the angel Gabriel clarifies the vision for Daniel, confirming the identities of the ram and goat and detailing the rise and fall of the fierce king represented by the little horn. Daniel is deeply disturbed and exhausted by the vision's grave implications for his people. Ever wondered if you can trust the Bible? Wonder no more. The prophecies in chapter 8 have been remarkably fulfilled, centuries ahead of their time. While there are future prophecies yet to be fulfilled, such as the return of Jesus, rest assured—God will see through what He has set in motion. The call is to prepare to meet Him by accepting Jesus, who alone forgives sins. Do you question if God is truly in control? Daniel speaks of events happening "at the appointed time," a phrase seen throughout the Bible describing God's sovereign orchestration of history and the future. Everything rests in His hands. God has determined your birth and your appointed time to depart this world. Make the most of your time and devote your life in service to God, as Daniel did. Have you ever wondered, "How should we live?" The spirit of antichrist seeks to "cast truth to the ground," a description fitting our times where postmodern thought denies the existence of truth. God's truth, affirmed by Jesus as liberating, has been rejected, plunging the world into chaos. Paul reminds us that those who reject truth do so because they refuse to embrace it morally. It's not just an intellectual stance but a rejection rooted in personal worldview. The Bible teaches that we reap what we sow—both for good and for ill. What is your source of truth, and why?

Scripture ReferencedDaniel 2:47; Genesis 1-3; Acts 17; Psalm 19; Romans 1-2; Matthew 5:45What the Bible teaches about Human SalvationNot Every from Every - The Bible does not teach that every person from every nation will be rescued from sin, death, and hell. Not all from Some - Nor does God favor any group of people in that all from only some nations will be saved. Some from Every - The Scriptures are clear that there will be some from every people, tribe, and language in the Kingdom of heaven (Revelation 7:9-12). In a unique way, Jesus' message was as open as can be imagined, yet only some respond. His open call is clear:The Call of JesusAll who are weary and heavy burdened...come to Jesus (Matthew 11:25-30)All who are thirsty...drink (Revelation 22:17)All who are in darkness...he is light (Matthew 4:12-17; 2 Corinthians 4:1-6)All who are hungry...come eat and be satisfied (John 6:35-40)The Deity of Jesus the ChristHe claimed to forgive sin, only what God could do (Mark 2:1-12)He claimed to be the divine "Son of Man" (Daniel 7:13, 14; Mark 13:24-27)He claimed to exist before Abraham was born as the "I AM" - the unique name of God in the Old Testament (John 8:48-59)He claimed that he was "one" with the Father (John 10)He claimed that if you saw him, you saw the Father (John 14)He was called "King of Kings and Lord of Lords" superseding the grandeur and authority of all earthly kings and rulers (Philippians 2:9-11; 1 Timothy 6:11-16; Revelation 9:11-16)Books ReferencedHuston Smith and Huston Smith, The World's Religions : Our Great Wisdom Traditions (San Francisco: HarperSanFrancisco, 1991, 378.Jean Calvin, Institutes of the Christian Religion, trans. An exposition of Daniel 2 preached at Christ Our Savior Baptist Church on Sunday, April 9, 2023 by Kyle Newcomer.
We can all relate to ole Peter. In this message from Mark 8, Pastor Joey looks at Peter's extraordinary confession of Christ. It's the apex of Mark's gospel as it pinpoints the mission of the book (1:1) and the gospel. But the very next minute, Peter rebukes Jesus and is scolded by Him. Why? It's the scandal of the cross, of course! Like the disciples, we have these preconceived notions of Jesus and attempt to fit Him in our neat little box (as evidenced by our complacency, comfort, and general lack of obedience). But Jesus won't be backed into some narrow view of the Messiah. The "Son of Man" (Daniel 7) was always meant to be the Suffering Servant (Isaiah 53). There is no crown without the Cross! The Gospel of Suffering demands that we, like Jesus, die. Whereas we don't have to physically die for our sin, we do have to die to our self, take up our cross daily, and follow Jesus. This is the scandal of the Cross! Message preached on Sunday, February 12, 2023 at ParkerDC as part of the #MarkSeries.

Nothing is more humbling than a man who prays a repentant prayer. A daily devotional in the book of Daniel by Vince Miller.
In this message we look at the central chapter of Daniel that holds its two halves together. Daniel has a strange and both disturbing and comforting dream of the future where he sees four future kingdoms described as beasts and the coming of the divine and human figure of the Messiah, the Son of Man.
