Ralph welcomes Timothy Whitehouse, executive director of Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility (PEER) to speak about how federal workers across all government agencies are being unfairly denigrated and summarily fired by the Trump Administration to clear the way for corporate corruption. Plus, we are joined by Toby Heaps, Editor-in-Chief of “Corporate Knights” magazine to talk about the benefits of the cooperative business model over the corporate shareholder model.Timothy Whitehouse is executive director of Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility (PEER). Prior to joining PEER, he was a senior attorney at the Environmental Protection Agency and was head of the Law and Policy Program at the North American Commission for Environmental Cooperation in Montreal. The time to stigmatize federal workers is over. It's time to start rallying for unions for federal workers and what they do, and to support the idea that government plays an important role and that government (the civil service) must be as non-political as possible. Our country will be much better for it.Timothy WhitehouseThat's a good way to describe it: supersonic. We knew things were going to be really bad, but they are much worse than bad because there's no check and no balance on this President's madness. And some of the people and institutions we had hoped would stand up a little bit are collapsing one by one.Timothy WhitehouseOur foreign enemies could not have devised a better way to grind our system to a halt, and that's what's happening.Timothy WhitehouseToby Heaps is the CEO and co-founder of Corporate Knights, and Editor-in-Chief of Corporate Knights magazine. He spearheaded the first global ranking of the world's 100 most sustainable corporations in 2005, and in 2007 coined the term “clean capitalism.” Toby has been published in the Financial Times, Wall Street Journal, and the Globe and Mail, and is a regular guest speaker on CBC.I think in the co-op movement, the biggest bugaboo holding it back (in North America, that is) is people's perception that it's not a significant force. And it is already a significant force. In many cases, we're not familiar that the company might be a co-op (such as Associated Press or Ocean Spray) but in the United States alone, the turnover of co-op enterprises sales in 2023 was $324 billion US. And so, it's a significant part of the economy already.Toby HeapsI can't underline enough that if you care about a sustainable economy that works for people and planet, that the operating model is not just the clean economy (the environmentally friendly economy), it's the cooperatively-run economy.Toby HeapsThe principal obstacle to co-ops is the inadequate engagement of consumers to know about the huge benefits— to control the local economy from multinational corporations (absentee), who are pulling strings in ways that are very damaging, and basically to assume the purchasing power of the consumer.Ralph NaderNews 9/12/2025* Several major stories surrounding the Jeffrey Epstein case have emerged in the past week. First, Democrats on the House Oversight Committee have released a note written by President Trump to Epstein included in the latter's “birthday book” from 2003. In this note, Trump refers to Epstein as his “pal” and writes “May every day be another wonderful secret," according to Reuters. Trump has denied that this letter even existed, going so far as to sue the Wall Street Journal for defamation over their reporting in July. Trump continues to deny that he wrote the letter, though his signature is a perfect match, and he has sought to tamp down the matter, calling it a “dead issue,” per NBC.* In Congress, Republican allies of Donald Trump are seeking to quash the Epstein issue as well. On Tuesday, Republicans on the House Rules Committee “shot down a bid to put the Epstein Files Transparency Act—which would compel the Justice Department to release all unclassified records related to Jeffrey Epstein—to a floor vote,” in an 8–4 party-line vote, the New Republic reports. However, despite this setback, dissident Republican Thomas Massie continues to press the issue. Speaking about the birthday note, Massie said “It's…indicative of the things that might come out if we were to release all of the files…embarrassing, but not indictable. And I don't think avoiding embarrassment is a reason to avoid justice,” per CNN. Massie added in an interview on ABC that "I think it's going to be embarrassing to some of the billionaires, some of the donors who are politically connected to [Trump's] campaign. There are probably intelligence ties to our CIA and maybe to other foreign intelligence." Democrat Ro Khanna insisted in this same interview that he and his allies, including Massie, will be able to pull together a House majority of 218 members to force a vote on releasing the files.* Our final Epstein story for the week concerns James O'Keefe. Former leader of Project Veritas, O'Keefe continues to carry out far-right hidden-camera sting operations. In a rare move targeting conservatives, O'Keefe engineered a date between Joseph Schnitt, a deputy chief of staff at the Office of Enforcement Operations at DOJ, and an operative in his employ wherein Schnitt admitted that the Trump administration will “redact every Republican or conservative person in those files, [and] leave all the liberal, Democratic people.” In this video, Schnitt also implies that Epstein's lieutenant, Ghislaine Maxwell was relocated to a lower security prison to “keep her mouth shut,” as part of a deal with the government. This according to the Hill. One should certainly take revelations from O'Keefe with a heavy dose of salt, but these troubling comments should also raise suspicions about the government's possible plans to manipulate information related to this case for political ends.* Aside from the Epstein affair, the Trump administration continues to issue destructive policy directives in all directions. AP reports the federal Department of Transportation has scrapped a Biden-era rule that required airlines to “compensate stranded passengers with cash, lodging and meals for flight cancellations or changes caused by a carrier.” This rule, which sought “compensation starting at $200…[and] as high as $775…for delays of nine hours or more,” was consistent with European aviation consumer protections. Unsurprisingly, airlines – represented by lobbyists in the employ of the industry trade group Airlines for America – bitterly resisted the rule and celebrated the administration's abandonment of this basic consumer protection. The Biden Transportation Department had also been weighing rules that would have required airlines to provide, “free rebooking on the next available flight, including flights on rival airlines, as well as meals and lodging when passengers are stranded overnight.”* At the same time, the Trump administration's Federal Trade Commission is abandoning its rules banning noncompete clauses for employees. An eye-popping 1 in 5 workers are bound by noncompetes, approximately 30 million Americans, and experts estimated that banning such clauses could boost wages to the tune of nearly $300 billion per year and help create 8,500 new businesses, per NPR. The FTC voted 3-1 to vacate its defense of the rule, with Chair Andrew Ferguson and Melissa Holyoak, both Republicans, issuing a joint statement. Rebecca Kelly Slaughter, the lone remaining Democrat on the commission after Trump purged the FTC earlier this year, voted no.* Turning to foreign affairs, the Guardian reports two ships in the Gaza aid flotilla have been struck by drone attacks while docked in Tunisia. The first struck the Family Boat, which carries activist Greta Thunberg, though she was not on board at the time. The second struck the Alma, a ship bearing British flags while docked in the port of Sidi Bou Said. In a video, one can see, “a luminous object hitting the boat and fire erupting on board.” Francesca Albanese, the UN special rapporteur for the occupied Palestinian territories, is quoted saying, ‘‘Authoritative sources suggest the attack involved an incendiary grenade, wrapped in plastic materials soaked in fuel, which may have ignited before even hitting the vessel.” These attacks come amidst a renewed Israeli bombing campaign against its neighbors, including bombing the Qatari capital of Doha and the Yemeni capital Sanaa. Trump says he is “very unhappy” about the strikes; Israel's ambassador to the United States however says the world will “get over it.” This from Al Jazeera.* Meanwhile, Drop Site is out with yet another bombshell report, this time on Israel's propaganda push to cover up the scale of the hunger crisis in Gaza. According to this report, the Netanyahu government signed a previously unreported $45 million deal with Google to push false propaganda through the massive platform. One video, viewed more than 6 million times, asserts “There is food in Gaza. Any other claim is a lie.” Israel also reportedly paid $3 million for an ad campaign on X, formerly Twitter, and another $2 million on a French platform called Outbrain. This report also cites other examples of Israeli propaganda campaigns in recent years, including against UNRWA and regarding the illegal strikes in Iran.* In more positive news, the pro-Palestine campaign in Hollywood continues to grow. This week, Variety reports a group of over 3,900 filmmakers, actors and other industry professionals signed a new pledge to boycott working with “Israeli film institutions and companies that are ‘implicated in genocide and apartheid against the Palestinian people.'” This group includes many household names, such as Mark Ruffalo, Joaquin Phoenix, Jonathan Glazer, Tilda Swinton, Javier Bardem, Emma Stone, Boots Riley, Ayo Edebiri, and many, many more. The list continues to grow as this pledge circulates. According to the Hollywood Reporter, this campaign is led by Film Workers for Palestine, which explicitly modeled their strategy after Filmmakers United Against Apartheid. That group, founded by eminent filmmakers like Martin Scorsese, demanded that the film industry refuse distribution in apartheid South Africa.* Beyond Israel/Palestine, events are rocking Nepal, the small Himalayan nation that lies between India and China. The BBC reports “Fierce protests against corruption and nepotism spiralled into arson and violence on Tuesday. The prime minister resigned as politicians' homes were vandalised, government buildings torched and parliament set ablaze. Twenty-nine people have died since Monday.” The "Gen Z" youth groups leading the protests have distanced themselves from these acts of destruction, claiming their movement was "hijacked" by "opportunists". Nepal's military has been deployed in the capital of Kathmandu in an attempt to restore order and enforce a curfew. The government of Nepal, led by now-ousted Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli, sought to cultivate a closer relationship with China to offset Nepal's historical dependence on India. For the time being, China seems to be taking a wait and see approach to the situation in Nepal, with foreign ministry spokesman Lin Jian calling for all parties to “properly handle domestic issues and restore social order and national stability as soon as possible,” per the South China Morning Post.* Finally, Democracy Now! reports that in an apparent fit of retaliation, the Trump administration is now threatening to redeport Kilmar Abrego Garcia, the American green card holder recently returned from his wrongful deportation to El Salvador's CECOT mega-prison. This time, instead of sending him to El Salvador, the government plans to send Garcia to the tiny African kingdom of Eswatini, formerly Swaziland. Garcia had previously expressed fear of being deported to Uganda. This move would surely be punitive, capricious and just plain bizarre, but that is hardly a deviation from the course of the Trump administration. We express solidarity with Garcia, who stands practically alone against the juggernaut of the United States' deportation apparatus. This has been Francesco DeSantis, with In Case You Haven't Heard. Why do girls talk about their looks and boys talk about their abilities? Last night’s Parental Guidance episode tackled the big, emotional topic of body image — from what our kids see in the mirror to what they learn from us. In this Happy Families Podcast recap, Justin and Kylie unpack the powerful moments, the heated debates about Botox and social media, and what the research says about raising kids who feel good about their bodies. KEY POINTS Introduction of four new parenting styles: Authoritative, Positivity, Hard Way, and Life School — and their views on body image. Kids’ mirror challenge revealed a clear gender split: boys focused on what their bodies do, girls on how their bodies look. Parents’ debate about Botox and cosmetic procedures highlighted tension between self-acceptance and role-modelling for kids. Social media and screen use increase body dissatisfaction — media literacy alone isn’t enough. WHO study: gender, not body size, predicts body image problems. The importance of parents modelling self-acceptance and healthy habits. QUOTE OF THE EPISODE "We focus on boys’ function, not form — and girls’ form, not function. That’s how society has conditioned us for centuries." — Dr Justin Coulson RESOURCES MENTIONED The Happiness Hypothesis by Jonathan Haidt WHO study on gender and body image Book: Miss-connection: Why Your Teenage Daughter Hates You, Expects the World, and Needs to Talk by Justin Coulson Pixel Perfect [webinar] Happy Families resources at happyfamilies.com.au ACTION STEPS FOR PARENTS 1. Reduce kids’ time on screens and social media to limit harmful comparisons.2. Stop focusing on diets or external measures — promote health, not appearance.3. Catholic Daily Reflections

Read OnlineWhen Jesus finished these words, the crowds were astonished at his teaching, for he taught them as one having authority, and not as their scribes. Matthew 7:28–29These lines conclude the Sermon on the Mount found in Matthew's Gospel chapters 5–7. In that lengthy sermon, Jesus touches on many topics and presents us with a summary of all we need to know in our lives of faith. In these concluding lines of His sermon, the words “astonished” and “authority” should stand out. Why were the crowds astonished at Jesus' teaching? Because His teaching was new and relied upon a new authority that the people hadn't experienced before. The authority with which the scribes taught was based upon their knowledge of the traditions handed down to them from earlier teachers. The scribes studied long and hard and then presented what they had learned. This was the form of religious teaching that the people were used to receiving.Jesus, however, arrived on the scene and astonished the crowds, because He spoke with a new authority that they had not seen before. Jesus' authority came forth from His very Person. It was not based upon what He had studied and learned from those who preceded Him. Instead, when He spoke, it was He Himself Who was not only the mouthpiece of the New Law of grace, He was also the Author of the Law and its source.Try to ponder the idea of authority. For example, a child knows that a parent has authority over them. They may not like it at times, but they understand that they do not set the rules of the house but must abide by the rules set by their parents. Or consider the authority of civil leaders. Law enforcement officers, for example, have an authority entrusted to them by their office. They are not only well versed in the rule of law, they can also enforce it and everyone knows it.Similarly, Jesus did not just know about the new and glorious truths He taught. He did not simply learn them from the Father in Heaven and then pass them on verbally. Instead, when He taught, He did so as the One Who knew the New Law of grace, the One from Whom it originated, and the one and only Person sent to enact and enforce this New Law.Reflect, today, upon the New Law of grace and mercy taught by our Lord, especially as it is contained in the lengthy Sermon on the Mount. Reading those words is much more than something we study and learn. The words themselves are alive; they are the Word of God. Reading them makes present to us the same authority that the crowds experienced in Jesus' time. Everything Jesus taught was and is new, deep, profound, transforming and alive. And when He teaches it, He also establishes His divine authority to enforce it upon the world. This is good news, because His New Law is not an imposition; it is the one and only source of freedom and new life.Reflect upon this New Law of our Lord and pray that you will more fully come under its authority. My glorious Lawgiver, You taught as One with authority. Today, as Your holy Word is read and proclaimed, You continue to exercise Your new and glorious authority of love and mercy. Please help me to listen to You and to always submit myself to Your authority so that I am governed by Your New Law of grace. Authoritative coach Chris Marr reveals the hidden profit killers lurking in your client relationships in this transformative episode of Play Big Faster. After 15 years of coaching client-facing professionals from startups to nine-figure enterprises, Chris Marr the authoritative coach exposes why your need to be liked is actually sabotaging both your success and your clients' results. This isn't your typical business coaching session about communication skills. Chris delivers a masterclass in becoming an authoritative speaker who commands respect while delivering exceptional value. His unconventional approach challenges the "customer is always right" mentality that's keeping entrepreneurs trapped in people-pleasing patterns. The 12 Conversations Framework That Prevents Scope Creep Chris Marr authoritative coach methodology centers on proactive boundary setting through strategic conversations. Rather than reactive damage control, his sales and marketing training focuses on establishing authority from day one. You'll discover how to position yourself as an indispensable strategic partner instead of a replaceable vendor. The episode reveals Chris's signature assessment tool that identifies five critical areas where people-pleasing behaviors manifest in professional relationships. From fee negotiations to project boundaries, Chris demonstrates how speaking with authority actually serves your clients better than constant accommodation. Personal Development Meets Business Strategy What sets this conversation apart is how Chris connects personal development with practical business coaching. His Scottish-accented wisdom cuts through typical sales training platitudes to address the psychological drivers behind people-pleasing behaviors. The discussion moves beyond surface-level communication skills to examine the internal work required to become an authoritative coach. Chris shares real-world scripts for resetting struggling client relationships and navigating high-stakes conversations. His sales coaching approach emphasizes curiosity over defensiveness, showing how to maintain relationships while establishing necessary boundaries. Marketing Training That Actually Works in Practice Unlike generic marketing training that focuses on acquisition, Chris's methodology emphasizes retention through authority. His business coaching philosophy argues that true indispensability comes from being the expert clients turn to when problems arise, not the vendor they replace when budgets tighten. The episode includes actionable strategies for professionals in service-based industries who struggle with scope creep, discounting, and client management. Chris's sales and marketing training emphasizes long-term relationship building over short-term people-pleasing. Why This Episode Matters for Entrepreneurs Become an authoritative speaker in your field by implementing Chris's proven frameworks. His business coaching insights apply whether you're a consultant, designer, coach, or any client-facing professional tired of giving away free work and undervaluing expertise. The conversation addresses a critical gap in traditional sales coaching: how to maintain warmth and connection while establishing firm boundaries. Chris demonstrates that becoming an authoritative coach doesn't mean becoming cold or difficult—it means serving clients at the highest level by refusing to enable their worst habits. For entrepreneurs ready to transform their client relationships and step into true authority, this episode provides both the psychological insights and practical tools needed to make the shift from people-pleaser to indispensable expert.

Diet culture loves to tell parents exactly how to and how not to feed their kids. What happens often is well-intentioned parents abandon their parenting style(s) and find themselves swinging on a pendulum between permissive feeding practices and urging their kids to “take 3 more bites, or no dessert”! In this latest podcast episode, Anna and I explain how feeding is parenting, how diet-culture creates misalignment, and simple shifts you can make to create calm mealtimes.Takeaways* Consistency is key: Kids do well when the support and boundaries they experience at bedtime and homework time are also part of mealtimes.* Authoritative feeding vs. short order cooking — Learn how you can shift away from short order cooking. * Learning doesn't happen all at once- Gradually give tweens and teens planning, prepping, and packing instead of handing over all the responsibilities all at once. * Notice the mismatch — If your food rules feel more harsh, or you find you've abandoned any structure, that may be a clue to experiment with a small shift toward a more supportive parenting style. Anna Mackay is in the process of completing her dietetic internship. Just a note that this podcast is for informational and educational purposes only. Thanks for being here.Elizabeth: Hi, Anna. It's so exciting to be here again recording our now third episode back into podcasting.Anna:Yeah.Elizabeth: So, today we are going to talk about what we mean when we say feeding is parenting. It's easy to think of mealtime struggles as separate from how we parent, but the truth is they're very interconnected. Diet culture often pulls us out of alignment with the kind of parents we want to be, so today Anna and I are going to chat about how to identify what's working, what's not, and what small shifts you can make to reduce the stress around feeding as parenting.Anna: Absolutely—that was great!Anna:One of the things we say a lot is feeding is parenting. So let's unpack that, because listeners may be thinking, what in the world are you talking about? We can also share examples of how diet culture interferes in parenting.Anna:In the introduction you said it so well: the messages parents get about how to feed children can push us to feed in a way that's completely different from the style of parenting we use for everything else. Someone who's normally supportive and structured—bedtime, homework, learning new skills—might suddenly feed in an authoritarian way because diet culture is very good/bad, right/wrong. That misalignment creates anxiety.Elizabeth:Yes! The parent might wonder, Wait, this isn't what I believe—why am I doing this around food? And all the online feeding advice may not align with how they actually parent, so they're left questioning whether they're doing a good job. It's a lot to navigate.Anna:Exactly. For example, telling a child, “You must eat all your broccoli before dessert.” That's an authoritarian rule. Yet in other areas this same parent may be collaborative and supportive—like helping a shy child ease into a birthday party instead of forcing them inside. If we step back and apply that supportive style to food, we'd offer the broccoli, let the child decide to smell it, taste it, or not, and trust that over time they'll learn to eat it without the hammer coming down.Elizabeth:Makes total sense. Listeners, send us questions if anything feels unclear! Another place diet culture collides with parenting is the pressure to give tweens and teens full responsibility for their food—packing lunches, making dinner—without any structure. Kids are still growing and busy; they need scaffolding.Tweens, Teens, and ScaffoldingAnna:Feeding oneself is a developmental task. We want kids to leave home able to feed themselves well, but we can't yank away all support in fifth or sixth grade. Instead we build autonomy gradually:* Elementary: You plate the snack, or give two choices.* Middle school: They prepare the snack; you nudge balance (“grab a fruit with that granola bar”).* High school: They pack their own food, but you ask, “What's your plan for snack before soccer?” and check that they actually have one.Elizabeth: And every child develops at their own pace. Some high-school seniors still benefit from a packed lunch. I make my senior's lunch because her schedule is packed. She sees what I pack, makes her own lunches on weekends, and will be fine in college.Anna: Exactly. Bottom line: “no lunch” isn't an option. If the parent truly can't help in the morning, brainstorm a Plan B—school lunch, or pre-packed foods like Uncrustables, chips, fruit, yogurt—so a balanced meal is always there.Short-Order Cooking & Parenting StylesElizabeth: Another common pitfall is short-order cooking—making a separate meal when a child refuses dinner.Anna: Right. That's permissive feeding. The child misses exposure to new foods and struggles later at a friend's house or the college dining hall.Anna:Think of the parenting-style continuum:* Authoritarian: “Clean your plate or no dessert.”* Permissive: “Fine, I'll make mac & cheese instead.”* Authoritative (goal): Structure and flexibility—serve one family meal with at least one familiar food, no pressure to clean plates.Ask yourself: Where am I now? What small step nudges me toward authoritative? Maybe you stop short-order cooking by ensuring a preferred side dish is on the table; over time you can phase that backup out.Elizabeth: And sometimes you will make the alternate meal—life happens—just aim for the overall pattern to support skill-building.Wrapping UpAnna: Notice any misalignment between your overall parenting style and feeding approach, then take one small step toward alignment. We'd love your questions—DM us on Instagram, comment on Substack, or email hello@sunnysideupnutrition.com.Elizabeth: Thanks for listening, and until next time!Anna: Bye.Anna: Thank you for listening. In the recent episode of the Raising Private Money podcast, Jay Conner joins Jerry Scarlato in the Good Wolf Project podcast where they delve into the nuances of raising private money—a strategy that can redefine your approach to real estate investments. Understanding the Difference: Hard Money vs. Private MoneyIn the world of real estate, financing options are plentiful but can often be confusing. Jay Conner explains a common misunderstanding between hard money and private money. Hard money typically comes from brokers who pool and lend funds from individual investors, charging high interest rates and fees. This traditional route involves jumping through numerous hoops, including credit checks and financial disclosures, which can be time-consuming.Conversely, private money is a more direct transaction, where a real estate investor borrows money from an individual, cutting out the middleman. Here, the investor sets the terms, interest rates, and payment schedules, providing a more flexible and tailored financing option. This approach eliminates the need for borrowing from traditional banks or hard money lenders, offering more autonomy and speed in closing deals.Navigating the Challenges with a Resilient MindsetReal estate investing is not without its hurdles. During the conversation, Jerry and Jay highlight the importance of resilience when facing financial setbacks. Jay shares his experience during the 2008 financial crisis when he unexpectedly lost his line of credit with a local bank. This pivotal moment pushed him towards private lending, leading to a successful reevaluation and expansion of his business model. The key to overcoming challenges is adopting a proactive mindset. Rather than seeing obstacles as insurmountable problems, Jay emphasizes responding constructively and connecting with the right people who can facilitate solutions. This mindset shift from "victim" to "victor" is essential for navigating the volatile waters of real estate investing. The Power of Community and MentorshipAnother critical element of success in real estate investing is surrounding oneself with like-minded individuals and mentors. Jerry and Jay underscore the transformative impact of joining mastermind groups and engaging in communities that foster collaboration and learning. Jay recounts how mastermind groups have expedited his success by providing access to a wealth of experience and insights from industry peers.Learning from seasoned investors and sharing experiences can significantly decrease the learning curve, preventing costly mistakes and leading to more informed decision-making. As Jay aptly puts it, "What got you here today will not get you there tomorrow."Building a Sustainable Strategy for Raising Private MoneyTo successfully raise private money, Jay advises a strategic approach focused on education and relationship-building. By teaching potential lenders about the benefits of private lending and offering them a secure and appealing investment opportunity, investors can attract capital without resorting to high-pressure sales tactics. He demonstrates the power of seamless communication and structured programs in cultivating a network of private lenders eager to invest.Prospective investors can start small by hosting informational luncheons or one-on-one meetings to share insights about private lending programs. Most Americans are a little nervous when it comes to the fiscal trajectory of the U.S.. According to expert forecasts, the likely extension of the 2017 Trump tax cuts would take the current $36 trillion of national debt beyond the estimated $54 trillion by 2034 – taking it all the way to $59 trillion. A recent Penn Wharton study predicts that if the U.S. doesn't right its fiscal ship of state by 2034, no combination of raising taxes or cutting spending will arrest the financial collapse of the nation. “Former Comptroller General of the Federal Government David Walker says that we may have to double tax rates within the next 10 years in order to keep our country solvent”, says David McKnight. Something important to consider is how to best shield your retirement savings from the potential tsunami of higher taxes down the road. David recommends creating a balanced, comprehensive strategy that takes advantage of all the “nooks and crannies” in the IRS tax code. The cost of getting money into tax-free vehicles is that you have to be willing to pay a tax. The next nine years represent a historical opportunity to pay those taxes while they're on sale. The approach David suggests thinking about can incorporate as many as six different streams of tax-free income – none of which shows up on the IRS' radar but all of which contribute to you being in the 0% tax bracket. A tax-free investment means no taxes at all: no federal income tax, no state income tax, or no capital gains tax. When taking distributions, tax-free investments should not count as provisional incomes – meaning that they don't count against the thresholds which cause Social Security taxation. The Roth IRA is the first truly-tax free retirement account David believes you should be contributing to in 2025. The second truly tax-free account worth considering in 2025 is the Roth 401(k). The potential for a company match is the one thing that makes Roth 401(k) impossible to ignore – and turns it into an instant return on your investment. After a Roth IRA and a Roth 401(k), the third tax-free alternative you should think about this year is a Roth conversion. David discusses the ideal scenario in which you should opt for a Roth conversion. Your IRA or 401(k) is the fourth stream of tax-free income David touches upon. Tax-free distributions from your IRA or 401(k) are what David refers to as “the Holy Grail of financial planning” – since they do something no other strategy can do. The life insurance retirement plan and tax-free Social Security are two additional strategies David dives into. Tax-free Social Security is unique because it shields you from several risks, including tax rate risk, inflation risk, long-term care risk, sequence of returns, and longevity risks.     Mentioned in this episode: David's national bestselling book: The Guru Gap: How America's Financial Gurus Are Leading You Astray, and How to Get Back on Track DavidMcKnight.com DavidMcKnightBooks.com PowerOfZero.com (free video series) @mcknightandco on Twitter  @davidcmcknight on Instagram David McKnight on YouTube Get David's Tax-free Tool Kit at taxfreetoolkit.com Donald Trump David Walker Mitt Romney

Time Outs: Helpful or harmful? Here's what the research says Pediatricians and researchers commonly recommend that parents use time outs when kids misbehave.  Time outs are promoted as an effective, evidence-based parenting strategy - although the real reason they're so highly recommended is that they cause less damage to children than hitting. But if we're already using respectful/gentle parenting strategies most of the time, could there be any benefit to adding time outs when our children don't comply with more gentle methods? This episode delves into the research on: Which children and families researchers think time outs are effective for (it's not the same group of children who are usually study participants!); The precise time out script that has been shown to be effective (and why it works); Whether time outs harm children or not (this is one of the biggest controversies in the Gentle Parenting world) If you've heard that time out is an effective strategy to gain children's cooperation but weren't sure whether it fits with your Gentle Parenting approach, this episode will help you to decide for yourself whether it's a good fit for you and your family. If you want to learn more, check out episode 39 where we dive deeper into parenting styles.   - How to use “high love and high limits” as your compass for helping you know how to raise healthy kids.   - Why the pattern so many parents find themselves in is: authoritative ➡️ permissive ➡️ authoritarian (and how to break this cycle!)    - Knowing the difference between being permissive and making a conscious and intentional choice not to pick this battle.   - The subtle shift in how you frame an intentional pivot to your child so your actions are still authoritative when you are “giving in.”   - How to change your mind without teaching your child that they can get you to cave and that your limits are unreliable.    - When your child refuses to take a bath, brush their teeth, wants more water after bedtime, and asks for candy before breakfast - how to be authoritative in all of these situations.     ADDITIONAL PODCAST EPISODES YOU MAY LIKE:
