As the inter-season hiatus winds down, The Film Scorer covers some of the best, most notable, and favorite film scores from April through June, 2022. These run the gamut, from "multiverse" scores like Everything Everywhere All at Once by Son Lux and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, to grimy, experimental works like We're All Going to the World's Fair by Alex G or Phil Tippett's Mad God by Dan Wool and more, this period is loaded with impressive pieces.  Keep your eye on The Film Scorer website for reviews and articles covering some of these scores and see below for articles covering some of my favorite scores for the following months, including detailed writeups and lists: April: https://thefilmscorer.com/the-best-film-scores-of-april-2022/ May: https://thefilmscorer.com/the-best-film-scores-of-may-2022/

Well, if anything else you certainly can't say that Jacob doesn't make interesting selections for the show. Who knew that the Audrey Hepburn/Cary Grant classic had a modern retelling, and one that leaned so heavily into the arthouse cinema side as well. But the true question remains: are either of these any good, and do they work as comedies or dramas or whatever they're passing themselves off as? Also in this episode is some very slight praise for Phil Tippett's Mad God, anger towards mashed together soundtracks, creepy mother's with no bearing on story, and an appearance from French film star Charles Aznavour! Not in the podcast necessarily, just in the movie. Sorry for getting your hopes up. All this and more on They Remade It! UGLY, available wherever you can find books right now - returns to the podcast to make us watch a new stop-motion horror masterwork 30 years in the making: Phil Tippett's MAD GOD. Tippett, the legendary visual effects artist who has worked on everything from the original STAR WARS trilogy to JURASSIC PARK to ROBOCOP and even TWILIGHT, has finally unveiled this extremely bleak, experimental vision, and now the world is able to stream it on Shudder. You'll be hard-pressed to find a more unique film than this one in 2022 - it's a wild ride.

We have two movies to discuss this week! First, we cover Bretten Hannam's Two-Spirit Indigenous drama WILDHOOD (2:39), a road trip film coming to Hulu about two brothers, one of whom is searching for his long-lost birth mother. Along the way he finds himself by connecting with his heritage and comes out through a relationship with someone he meets along the way. Next is Phil Tippett's MAD GOD (22:52), an unsettling stop-motion-animated horror film on Shudder that's 30 years in the making. It's easy to describe visually, but hard to describe narratively. And in this week's Patreon exclusive audio, we talk about the winner of our Pride Month poll, Robin Campillo's drama 120 BPM, which chronicles the work ACT UP Paris did in the early 90s to fight the AIDS epidemic.

The new JURASSIC WORLD DOMINION is in constant, open communication with 1993's JURASSIC PARK, from its nostalgic casting to its egregious callbacks. But there's more going on in Colin Trevorrow's second sequel to JURASSIC WORLD — perhaps too much, thanks in part to the layers of new mythology that the 2015 film added to the original JURASSIC PARK formula. Is this merging of the two JURASSIC eras to be derided or commended for its ambition in stretching beyond the “dinosaurs on an island” conceit? We argue it out in our discussion of DOMINION, before placing it side-by-side with its source material to consider how the franchise has evolved, and not, in its anthropomorphizing of dinosaurs, its thematic interest in parenthood and reproduction, and its attitudes toward science, heroism, and corporate evil. Plus, the return of Your Next Picture Show, with a recommendation from Keith of Phil Tippett's MAD GOD.
