In which the Mister joins me in reviewing MAD GOD (2021), currently streaming on AMC+. Conceived, written, directed and 30 years in the making, Phil Tippett offers a story of unspeakable horrors with nightmarish and unsettling imagery from start to finish. Tippett, a stop-motion master, weaves a non-stop gruesome story in macabre detail from his characters to the landscape being explored. The film can be seen as an allegory for many things based on the viewpoint of the viewer but beware and be forewarned that the imagery is consistently shocking, grisly and morbid at every turn. The film is 1 h and 23 m and is unrated but probably safe to say it's definitely an R picture and not recommended for younger viewers. Please note there are SPOILERS in this review. Welcome back to the SHUDcast and boy do we have some gloopy deliciousness in stock for this one (and aside from our lives in general)! We get past some initial wildness as Cody forces us to watch the end of a hockey match during our recording (and of course we kept it in because who doesn't want to hear us marvel at the oddness of our beloved Cody) and dig deep, deep, DEEP into the mind of one of our true artistic geniuses, Phil Tippet, with his stop-motion labor of love and all things bodily fluids: MAD GOD. Check it out and enjoy! 00:00 - 28:30ish Intros: Please excuse Cody as he makes us watch the ending of a hockey match as we open… but it highlights more of who he is as a lovely human being so bear with us. The boys experience weather for the first time, what it might be like to get old, Austin and Cody go to the Halsey show, our thoughts on other “pop acts”, Steve Albini and how music producers work, and Hollywood Bowl stuff. 28:30ish - 1:14:30ish What we watched this time: Errementari, Anaconda, Nobody Sleeps in the Woods Tonight, Hustle, Shoresy, Alligator, Eyes of Fire, Stranger Things Season 4, Obi-Wan Kenobi, For All Mankind, Pain & Gain, Severance, The Bourne Supremacy, The Bourne Ultimatum, Everything Everywhere All At Once (Austin finally took the plunge), and Jackass 4.5 (we contain multitudes). 1:14:30ish - 2:04:20 MAD GOD SHUDdown and discussion 2:04:20 - What we're watching next time!

Neon White is a speedrunning game for people who've never tried speedrunning, a Dreamcast-like game for folks who never owned a Dreamcast, and a visual novel for gamers who rather play than read. It's a ball of contradictions and easily one of the best games of 2022. Frushtick and Plante also finish the business they started on the most recent episode of The Besties: cleaning out the overstuffed mailbag.Movies discussed: The Thing, Mad God, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, KusoTV discussed: Players on Paramount Plus
Oscar and Emmy-winning visual effects artist Phil Tippett is responsible for some of the most memorable effects in movies history, like the alien chess match in Star Wars, the giant robot walkers in The Empire Strikes Back, the ED-209 in RoboCop and more. And because his work is almost always rooted in stop-motion animation, Phil tends to be meticulous. It's why, as he tells Marc, he started his first film 30 years ago and it's only complete now. They talk about the creation of this movie, Mad God, and how it drove Phil to the brink. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
