The story so far: After a year and a half underground, we've made it to the best time of the year! Sadly, we've hit the end of Sellout October 2025! During October, we watch mainstream horror movies that people have heard of before. And after trick-or-mole-treating around Mole City, we were gifted a film as a little treat, and it turned out to be The Monster Squad from 1987! It's a first time watch for one of us (can you guess who?!), and we bask in the glory of Stan Winston's amazing costumes, discuss the constant necessity of virgins in horror, talk way too much about foreskin, and just shower this movie with love! As Sellout October comes to an end, we hope you all have the spookiest of Halloweens!!!Leave us a 30 second voicemail and if we like it we'll play it on the show: (949) 4-STABBY (949-478-2229)Next movie announced every Wednesday. THE MONSTER SQUAD brings the Universal Monsters of yore into the '80s with a healthy dose of sugar-blasted cereal and unmedicated ADHD. Directed by Fred Dekker (NIGHT OF THE CREEPS) & written by both Dekker and Shane Black (THE NICE GUYS, LETHAL WEAPON, KISS KISS BANG BANG, most of your favorite movies ever), this combined family drama, top-notch makeup effects and preteen comedy with unapologetic horror. Dracula calls a 5-year-old girl a bitch, because of course, he would? As was done to Freddy Kreuger in this decade, the Universal Monsters were sanitized into cereal mascots and plushies but Dekker and Black's script remind us not to be fooled. These are still vampires and werewolves, after all, ready to carve into flesh and crush whatever magic amulet threatens to lock them into Hell for good. So, who do you call to handle these beasts of death? A bunch of kids, obviously. The motherfuckin' Monster Squad.---Follow, rate and review THE MOVIES wherever you listen to podcasts!Follow THE MOVIES on Instagram, Bluesky & Letterboxd

Believe it or not, this episode's been a long time coming for us. We've talked about covering this movie since the beginning of the pod, but we finally sat down to review HOUSE (1985)! This film from director Steve Miner and writers Fred Dekker and Ethan Wiley has been a favorite of our host Nick for many, many years, and it was a delight to finally discuss it on the show. Although this review is not without its cost, as Nick has to endure far more comic talk than he could have possibly anticipated before we hit "record." But we had a blast chatting about the movie, taboo tooth-brushing techniques, Herculean efforts to unearth four eighties comic books, introducing the K.R.E.O.N. certification system and much more. We really hope everyone enjoys the review. The gang kicks Wolfman in the nards this week, as they review the spooky 80's childhood classic, The Monster Squad (1987). Imagine the Avengers, but it's Universal classic monsters instead of Marvel super heroes. And the only force brave enough to take them on and save the world is a club of monster movie enthusiasts that meet in a treehouse, and casually throw around homophobic slurs. That more or less sums up this super fun adventure movie written by Fred Dekker and Shane Black before anyone knew who Shane Black was. André Gower played "Sean" in Fred Dekker's cult classic, The Monster Squad (1987). A film that has had a magnificent resurgence since being shown to a sold-out crowd at the Alamo Drafthouse in Austin, Texas during Easter weekend in 2006. Back in 2018, André helped bring the Wolfman's Got Nards documentary to life, a film that proves just how powerful the fan base behind this timeless piece of 80's cinema really is. Starting his acting career at age 5 after following in the steps of his older sister, André also managed to be in an ET Atari commercial and many great television shows including The Twilight Zone, The A-Team and T.J. Bryan and Dave take a good long look at Fred Dekker's 1986 cult favorite, Night of the Creeps and come away with a vastly different view of it than when they watched it as kids. What could possibly change their minds so significantly? It's a pastiche of 50's and 60's drive in tropes filtered through a 1980's horror movie lens but unfortunately, given the way things have shaken out in modern times, some of those tropes haven't aged well at all. Thankfully, Tom Atkins is here to save everything. Thrill me! --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/bring-me-the-axe/message
