The Bible is full of examples about the effects of the spoken word. The tongue is a powerful member of the body and what comes out of your mouth has bigger impacts than we may realize. These impacts occur in the physical and spiritual realms. If we let God guard our mouths, we will be able to speak life and victory over our circumstances.

“Life and death are in the power of the tongue.” That ancient truth isn't just spiritual—it's scientific. Your words create your world. In this video, Vince Ferguson, Certified Wellness Coach and host of Six Weeks to Fitness, reveals how the power of words can shape your mindset, your health, and your destiny. We'll explore how positive self-talk, faith-based affirmations, and speaking life can transform your energy, renew your mind, and strengthen your body. The Bible teaches that the tongue has the power to give life or destroy it, and modern science agrees—your thoughts and words influence your biology, emotions, and motivation. If you've ever struggled with self-doubt, negative thinking, or the feeling that your best days are behind you, this message will remind you that your future starts with your mouth. Learn how to align your thoughts and speech with faith, love, and purpose, so you can walk in healing, confidence, and abundance. Your words can heal. Your words can build. Your words can transform your health, your relationships, and your life—because life and death are truly in the power of the tongue.

Words shape worlds. In this message, Dominic Renaldo begins with the story of Yellowstone National Park, showing how the removal—and later return—of wolves transformed the entire ecosystem. The illustration sets the stage for a spiritual truth: just as nature is interconnected, so are our words and their impact. Drawing from 1 Chronicles, Psalms, and Proverbs 18:21, Dominic reminds listeners that words hold power—not to create material things, but to bring encouragement or harm, life or death. Through personal stories and a creative experiment, he reveals how what we speak can strengthen others or tear them down. The message concludes with a call to speak life, use words that reflect Christ's love, and become restorers in the ecosystems of our relationships.

Welcome to the School of Ministry Podcast where we examine James 3:5–12, as he uses vivid imagery of fire to show how the tongue—though small—can defile the whole person, spread destruction through gossip and slander, and be influenced by the old nature and the devil. In this remastered episode, we trace Biblical parallels and historical examples to highlight the danger and reach of sinful speech. Yet the episode also points to hope: the child of God, transformed by the new birth and led by the Holy Spirit, is called to a sanctified tongue that praises God and blesses others, with an invitation to accept Christ to avoid the eternal consequences of a real hell.
In this podcast, Pastor Justin breaks down why it's necessary and how to go about shifting your atmosphere to be conducive for God to dwell and to move. Support the show
In James 3, James writes to the power that the tongue possesses by highlighting that it is disporportionate in strength to its size, that we are helpless to tame it on our own, and that it reveals our heart. Pastor Zach encourages in this sermon that we would choose to change and let Jesus work on our life because thats when we can truly live set apart in this area.
This week, Pastor Tom unpacks the power of our words from James 3 and Proverbs 18: “Life and death are in the power of the tongue.” Like the mighty Bismarck battleship taken down by a single torpedo, small things can have enormous impact. Our words can wound or heal, tear down or build up. What's behind them? The heart. And only Christ can transform it. Join us as we explore how God reshapes hearts—and tongues—for His glory.
The Bible says that our tongues can be used to bless or to curse. When we're not careful, our tongues can spark a wildfire of destruction. When we are intentional, however, we can spark wildfires of love and appreciation. Today Danny Hochstatter teaches us the power we all have to bless or curse with our speech.Visit www.FamilyLife.cc to learn more.

Wisdom from the book of Proverbs concerning the tongue. Proverbs 18:20-21
James reveals the tongue as the agent of great power, which enlightens believers to the reality that self-control over the whole body begins and is dependent upon controlling our tongue.
James 3:1-12. From the "The Letter of James" sermon series. Preached by Stephen Baker.
H2O's Summer Sermon Series will explore the book of Proverbs over the course of 12 weeks! This is a chance for the people of our church to be challenged and encouraged to live more examined lives, soaking in the virtue of scripture, the beauty of wise living, and the goodness of receiving wisdom from past generations.
From time to time, we've all let a careless comment slip. But today, pastor Ray Bentley has a warning for those who continually let their words get out of control. If you have a tongue that is uncontrolled, you can literally start a forest fire in a human sense. You can devour multitudes of lives and literally it can be as hot as the fires of hell itself.
Proverb says, pleasant words are like a honeycomb. Sweetness to the soul, health to the bones. Pastor Ray Bentley comments, the power of speech is one of the greatest gifts that God has given to human beings. If you will believe in your heart that God raised Jesus from the dead, and then if you will say with your mouth, Jesus is Lord, then thou shalt be saved.

Good morning, Radiant! Mike Young is teaching today. Continuing "Summer of Wisdom" in Proverbs: wisdom is rooted in fear of the Lord, fueled by a teachable spirit, and avoiding foolishness. Today: the incredible power of our words.Scripture References: Proverbs 18:21, Proverbs (various), Matthew 12:33-37, James 3, Romans 8:9-11, Romans 10:9-10, Proverbs 6:16-19, Proverbs 11:13, Proverbs 16:28, Proverbs 12:18, Proverbs 15:1, Proverbs 28:23, Proverbs 16:24, Proverbs 25:11, Proverbs 15:4, Proverbs 10:19, Proverbs 17:28Key Points:Words: Weapon & Divine Reflection:Proverbs 18:21: "Death and life are in the power of the tongue."Our words, unique to humans, reflect God's image. He spoke creation; we wield similar power.Every word carries spiritual weight: fostering flourishing or destruction. Reckless speech yields bad "fruit"; Spirit-led words bring peace.Words' Source (Matthew 12):Jesus: "Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks." (Matt 12:34). Words perfectly mirror our heart.Bitter hearts speak cutting words; Spirit-filled hearts speak grace.Jesus warns: "Account for every careless word" (Matt 12:36).Jesus' "harsh" words (e.g., "brood of vipers") were perfectly aimed to expose hypocrisy, unlike our own. He perfectly tamed His tongue.Proverbs on Speech: Death-Bringing:Lying (Prov 12:22): Erodes trust.Gossip/Slander (Prov 11:13): Destroys relationships.Hasty (Prov 29:20): Causes irreversible damage.Contentious (Prov 15:1): Escalates conflict.Flattery (Prov 28:23): Insincere praise entraps.Proverbs on Speech: Life-Giving:Truthful (Prov 12:19): Established forever.Gracious (Prov 16:24): "Like honeycomb, sweetness to the soul."Well-timed (Prov 25:11): Precious, beautiful.Comforting/Gentle (Prov 15:4): Bring healing; "a gentle tongue is a tree of life."Restraint (Prov 17:28): "Even a fool who keeps silent is considered wise." Silence can be powerful.Words Shape Eternity:We can't perfectly tame our tongues; only Jesus did. He lives in us!Rom 10:9-10: mouth confession saves. Rom 8:9-11: Spirit in us gives life.God gives us words to proclaim the Gospel, bringing others from death to life. More than avoiding negative speech, actively bringing God's Kingdom. Conclusion:Our words hold incredible power. We're imperfect, but Jesus, the living Word, perfectly tamed His tongue to bring life, even through death. We now partake in His "fruit."Call to Action:At the table, confess foolishness/death-bringing words. Ask God for His ways. Then, stop talking and listen for His voice. Drawing from Colossians, Psalms, and Luke, she reminds us that “the mouth speaks what the heart is full of” and nothing shuts down relationships or opportunity faster than a foolish mouth.
