Salt and Light Covenant Church in Tallahassee, FL with Pastor Omar Ellison
What you store in your heart eventually comes out of your mouth. In "Power of the Tongue - Part 1," Pastor Omar Ellison breaks down the connection between our inner thoughts, our spiritual identity, and the spoken words that shape our daily lives. Rather than striving in human effort, true victory begins when we recognize that our righteousness is a gift through faith in Jesus Christ, giving us the freedom to speak God's promises even in the middle of hard trials. Pastor Omar also highlights the incredible ministry of the Holy Spirit as a personal teacher, comforter, and guide. While modern technology like artificial intelligence is rapidly learning, the Holy Spirit inside every believer already holds all truth and knows what is to come. Discover how yielding your tongue to God allows Him to create fruit through your lips and lead you into supernatural peace and victory. -- Your heart is the headquarters of your inner man, and what dominates your subconscious mind directly shapes what comes out of your mouth. -- Real righteousness is not earned through personal performance or perfection, but received as a gift through your belief in Jesus Christ. -- Consistently speaking words of faith and thanksgiving gives God the freedom to move in your life and create the very fruit of your lips. -- The Holy Spirit is a real person and helper who teaches you how to deny ungodliness, live soberly, and recall God's truth right when you need it. -- While artificial intelligence must constantly acquire information, the Holy Spirit inside you already knows all things and reveals things to come. How do our words reveal what is happening in our hearts? Through the wisdom of Proverbs, Stu Quackenbush helps us discover the power of our words and the importance of cultivating a life-giving tongue. We'll see the ways God calls us away from deceit, division, and destructive speech, and toward truth, wisdom, and words that build others up.
What if controlling your tongue is actually a horse problem? In this week's Water, Wind, Wine Ministries broadcast, we're digging into James Chapter 3 and one of Scripture's most powerful metaphors — the bit in a horse's mouth. Just as a small bit directs a powerful horse, God's Word directs your entire life when you willingly accept it. We head out to the pasture to demonstrate live with Moses and Melman — two very different horses with two very different responses to the bit — and what they reveal about human nature is striking. The horse that accepts the bit goes farther, moves easier, and gets blessed. The one that resists? Stiff-necked and stuck. Shawnee adds a powerful insight: sometimes accepting the bit just means taking a breath before you react. That pause is where God speaks. Watch and decide — which horse are you?

Modern science and technology have given humanity control over many things—but not the tongue. In today's episode of the MY Devotional Podcast, Dr. Michael Youssef turns to James 3 to show why our words matter so deeply in the life of the believer and the witness of the Church. James compares the tongue to a small rudder that steers a great ship and a tiny spark that can set an entire forest ablaze. Though small, the tongue can wound feelings, devastate reputations, shatter self-esteem, divide families, and destroy relationships. Proverbs warns that the tongue carries the power of life and death—and rash words lead to ruin. Dr. Youssef reminds us that Jesus connected our speech to the condition of our hearts. Words filled with pride, sarcasm, accusation, bitterness, gossip, lying, or blame reveal a heart in need of renewal. But words filled with Christ's love, encouragement, wisdom, and power reveal the Holy Spirit's transforming work within us. We cannot tame the tongue in our own strength—but God can. Through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, He teaches us to use our words to empower greatly, correct gently, and lead humbly for the glory of Christ. The voice you hear on the MY Devotional podcast is digitally generated with Dr. Youssef's permission. If today's devotional stirred a question, burden, or need for prayer, you don't have to walk through it alone.

Words are small, but they carry enormous power. They can heal or wound, build up or tear down, point people toward God or push them away. James says our words reveal what's really going on inside us. This week, we'll examine how our speech shapes our lives and how God wants to transform not just what we say, but our hearts behind it.
We live in a cultural moment where people are longing for wisdom, yet increasingly uncertain where to find it. James' letter speaks to this longing—not with vague spiritual sentiment, but with direct, practical wisdom for forming resilient lives of faith grounded in Jesus, the embodiment of God's wisdom.
What happens when jealousy, lies, and unchecked words take control? In 1 Kings 21, a simple vineyard becomes the center of a shocking story involving greed, manipulation, false accusations, and a man who refuses to compromise what God entrusted to him. This message dives into the lives of Naboth, Ahab, and Jezebel and challenges us to examine our own hearts, our motives, and the power carried in the words we speak. Some words leave scars long after they are spoken. The question is: what are our words producing?
