What does it actually mean to come to God in prayer? Sue asks us to think of one thing right now that you want to bring to God in prayer? She encourages us to envision God as a loving Heavenly Father and us as his beloved child and heir. The Father disciplines us but also forgives us - both because he loves us. Leading us in a guided reflection on God's fatherhood, Sue helps us to receive God's delight and love, receive his forgiveness and grace, receive his peace and the assurance of his listening ear to your prayer. Then it's time for prayer - led by God, in plume with his word, and activating Gods' intervention on your behalf.

Prayer is not for the faint of heart. It takes real faith and discipline to engage in prayer. Prayer is not a give-me wishlist exercise but rather an exercise of heavy lifting. But the good news or God-news is this, ”Our prayers may be awkward. Our attempts may be feeble. But since the power of prayer is in the one who hears it and not in the one who says it, our prayers do make a difference." -Max Lucado

Today is a very short intro to a rebroadcast of the prayer exercise from Episode 97. It is the exercise only where you are led in a time of returning into God's presence for the quietness and rest He promises. Our prayer inspiration comes from Isaiah 30:This is what the Sovereign LORD, the Holy One of Israel, says: "In repentance and rest is your salvation, in quietness and trust is your strength..." Start your week in His presence, finding strength and allowing Him to still and quiet you. The prayer exercise ends with reflection time using quiet instrumentals. Please share these episodes with a friend!
What does the future hold? What new thing will God do in you, through you? Can you be certain of his help and guidance? Yes. Isaiah 30:21 is a familiar scripture, but most don't know how it references God lead from behind. Learn about the depth of meaning in the scripture and how it cross references Psalm 23. May you complete the simple exercise suggested to inspire your prayer language as you ask for God's guidance for your future. Blessings! We're mixing it up this week: We taught Lectio Divina in our 2013 prayer workshops and then again in our recent class on praying privately, but it's a difficult exercise to go through on your own. This week's Grace Downtown podcast gives you prompts for the four readings that make up Lectio Divina, and spaces them out appropriately so that you can have time for the necessary reflection in between. Use this week's podcast as a way to structure your devotional time or as a way to help prepare yourself for longer periods of prayer.
