Miles de supermercados se suman a la decimotercera edición de la Gran Recogida del Banco de Alimentos organizada por la FESBAL (Federación Española de Bancos de Alimentos), una de las campañas de referencia en la lucha contra la pobreza en España. Pedro Castaños, subdirector de esta organización, ha explicado en Las mañanas de RNE con Juan Ramón Lucas que hoy, más que nunca, se necesita la colaboración ciudadana para llegar al mayor número de hogares posible. "Hay gente, que a pesar de tener un trabajo, no llega a fin de mes. Tienen que elegir entre alimentarse o pagar la luz", ha dicho. Por eso, desde la FESBAL han notado que "está cambiando el perfil" de los beneficiarios, con una pobreza que se extiende a pesar de que "parecía que después de la crisis del COVID, iba a disminuir, pero lo ha hecho de una manera muy marginal". Los voluntarios, con chalecos azules, informarán en supermercados donde se podrá donar alimentos no perecederos o dinero en caja. También se podrá donar a través de la web granrecogida.org, así como aportaciones a través del número de Bizum 00090. Todo lo recaudado, ha dicho Castaños, se destina íntegramente a la compra de alimentos básicos: “Nuestro objetivo es conseguir el equivalente a diez millones de kilos para alimentar a un millón de personas”.Escuchar audio

The extraordinary Ina Souez (1903 – 1992), was one of the few Native American singers to achieve worldwide fame on the operatic stage. Though her career was truncated by the collapse of her European career because of the impending World War, Souez's place in the history of recorded sound is assured by virtue of her participation in the series of Mozart operas as produced by HMV in the mid-1930s as souvenirs of the first seasons of the Glyndebourne Festival. Indeed, one could argue that her Fiordiligi remains the standard by which all other interpreters are judged. Souez, the 33rd anniversary of whose death is observed in December, was one of the few Native American singers to achieve worldwide fame on the operatic stage. This episode focuses on an ultra-rare 1957 self-titled album of songs and arias that marked a comeback of sorts for Souez, who upon escaping Europe as a star found herself a virtual non-entity when she returned to her native country. I also play excerpts from the classic mid-1930's recordings of Don Giovanni and Così fan tutte from Glyndebourne which have forever cemented the reputation of Souez in the hearts and minds of lovers of great singing. In addition, we hear 1935 recordings of Micaela's aria as well as the “Casta diva” from Norma and a pair of light classical 78s in which Souez's voice rings out with youthful vigor and enthusiasm. Other singers heard on these recordings include soprano Luise Helletsgruber; tenors Heddle Nash, Webster Booth, and Koloman von Pátaky; contralto Lore Fischer; and baritones John Brownlee and Willi Domgraf-Fassbaender. Conductors include John Barbirolli, Carl Schuricht, and, of course, the great Fritz Busch. Countermelody is a podcast devoted to the glory and the power of the human voice raised in song. Dr. Jennifer Roback Morse speaks with Raven Jard Castañeda and Nirva dela Cruz, two young Catholic leaders from the Philippines who helped pioneer the Humilitas March—a public act of reparation and devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. What began in 2024 as a small prayer gathering in Davao has grown into a nationwide movement offering a faithful alternative to Pride marches. Raven and Nirva share how the marches unite clergy, youth groups, and Catholic organizations in joyful witness, public prayer, and Eucharistic devotion. They discuss the symbolism of holding the march in historic places like EDSA, the powerful conversions it has inspired—including former Pride marchers turning to Christ—and how the Sacred Heart devotion speaks to today's culture of confusion and despair. Raven Jard N. Castañeda is a Catholic apologist, lay catechist, and medical student dedicated to proclaiming the love and kingship of Christ through devotion to the Sacred Heart. A summa cum laude graduate of Ateneo de Davao University in Medical Biology and now a second-year student at Davao Medical School Foundation, he continues forming young Catholics in truth, humility, and devotion. In 2024, he pioneered the HUMILITAS March, a movement of young faithful united in public witness and reparation to the Sacred Heart, and founded the Association of Catholic Apologists – Knights of Saint Justin Martyr, which hosts conferences, apologetics training, and catechetical events. With experience in writing, public speaking, and debate, he defends the faith against rising wokeism in Catholic universities, most recently presenting on Truth, Academic Freedom, and Catholic Education at a 2024 philosophy conference. His deepest desire is to lead souls back to the beauty of the Catholic faith and the burning love of the Heart of Jesus.
