Send JKO a Text MessageIn this episode of "Messy Can't Stop Her," host JKO explores the concept of being in exile, a place of instability and trouble. Drawing a parallel between the Israelites exiled in Babylon and those facing challenges in their own lives, she encourages listeners to find hope in God's promises, using verses 4-7 of Jeremiah 29. These verses instruct the Israelites to build lives, plant gardens, and seek the peace and prosperity of the city they are exiled in. JKO reminds women that even in challenging circumstances, God sees our struggles and equips us to thrive and find peace. She ends this episode with a powerful prayer session for those facing difficulties, encouraging them to trust in God and take steps of obedience. Some say that radio is a dying medium that will share the same fate as the dinosaurs. True that radio is an old form of communication, but it is still on the front line of the new evangelization. All across this country Catholic radio stations are producing content, and as great as the national content is, I love the locally produced content. Each morning I begin my day with one such radio station from Columbus Ohio. St. Gabriel Radio begins my broadcast day with prayer and guest's that I find interesting and thought provoking. I hope that you will check them out on line at the link below. St. Gabriel café is hosted by Amanda, Cam and my new friend Dave Orsborn. The Poco a Poco Podcast with the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal
The Scripture is one of the Lord's best ways to talk to us, a way for us to converse with God. It is also a good reminder of who Jesus is and who we are to Him. Most of us say that praying with scriptures is something that's good to do, but how do we actually do that? In this episode, we're going to offer some initial guidance on praying with scriptures and provide some good practices that might be helpful for us to have a more fruitful relationship with God through the scriptures. The Poco a Poco podcast happens because of many generous donors, including recurring monthly donations of any amount. Thinking about helping out? You can give at https://spiritjuice.org/supportpoco. In this second episode about prayer, Dr. Kathy talks about the importance of making sure our prayers and our children's prayers are realistic. If children ask God to change things that can't change, they could give up on God when nothing happens. We must prevent that. She also shares examples of how to use Scripture for prompting prayers. Lectio Divina, or the prayerful reading of scripture, is often mentioned in Catholic circles. We've found, though, that many times people will talk about lectio divina without really knowing what it is or how to do it. In fact, that may well be the story of one of us podcasters...but we don't go into that. Instead, we talk about the steps, or movements, or rungs, or stages of lectio divina. If we think that the Bible contains the word of God, we're sorta forced to admit that we do hear God speak, everytime we read scripture. The question isn't whether God is speaking, then; the question is whether we are responding. Lectio divina is one way to frame how to respond to God's speech.Incidentally, part of it elucidates the stages we should go through when we read 'most anything. Part of it is also a handy diagram of how we ought to respond to anyone who is speaking to us, so by teaching us how to pray, it also may teach us how to relate to 'most any person. Combine the two, and it's lectio divina.
