Indian-Australian Dr Santosh Kumar, 85, has been awarded the Medal of Order of Australia for his outstanding service to the Indian community of Victoria. Sir Karl Jenkins is a musician and composer from Penclawdd on the Gower Peninsula. He was knighted in the 2015 Queen's Birthday Honours List. From his early days in jazz and prog rock he has gone on to become the most performed living composer in the world. His canon of work transcends genre or classification and now includes 17 gold and platinum discs. His work The Armed Man: A Mass for Peace has been in the UK charts for 15 years, and was performed at the Lincoln Center New York on the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. Lady Carol Barratt is a musician, composer, educator, and a lyricist for Sir Karl's work. She has written 84 titles in musical education, and three children's books set on Gower which have now been translated in to Welsh. Richard and Gideon speak to Sir Karl and Lady Carol ahead of the concert in Carnegie Hall in honour of his 75th birthday.

This week on Inspired Edinburgh we have the incredible Lynne McNicoll OBE. Lynne began her fundraising journey at the age of 49 and a year later had raised £55,000. Over the next four years with the support of others she raised £650,000. This led to her establishing It's Good 2 Give!, a charity that supports young cancer patients and their families which has raised in excess of £1m. Despite her own cancer battle, Lynne has worked tirelessly raising money for the charity and is currently in the process of launching The Ripple Retreat, a luxury respite home on the banks of Loch Lomond. In recognition of her work she was awarded the Institute of Fundraising Volunteer Fundraiser of the Year Scotland, the Sir William Y Darling Award for Good Citizenship, the Local Hero Award for Volunteer Fundraiser of the Year and then in Queen's Birthday Honours List 2015, an OBE for services to children's charities in Scotland. Kirsty Young's castaway is filmmaker Gurinder Chadha. Writer, director and producer behind the films Bend it like Beckham, Bhaji on the Beach and Bride and Prejudice, she began her career as a BBC news reporter. She was born in Kenya to Sikh parents and grew up in Southall in West London. Her political awakening came in her teens in the 1970s against the backdrop of the National Front and race riots in the capital. The bands she listened to, including the Clash, the Jam and the Specials, were fixtures at the Rock Against Racism concerts which galvanised her desire to make a difference. Bend it Like Beckham, which launched the career of Keira Knightly, is now a hit musical on the West End stage. Her next film, Viceroy's House, tackles the Partition of India in 1947. She was awarded an OBE in the 2006 Queen's Birthday Honours List for her services to the British Film Industry. Producer: Paula McGinley.
