The boys return from their holiday break just in time for award season to kick off, and boy did the season start off with some surprises!
"Sinners" (2025) is a period piece which spirals from slow-burn drama, into a vampire bloodbath in vain of Quentin Tarantino & Robert Rodriguez's 'From Dusk Till Dawn in its second half, and has taken the box office by storm since its release this April.Marking the third collaboration between Ryan Coogler and Michael B. Jordan, and set in the sweltering atmosphere of the Mississippi Delta of the 1930's, Jordan plays dual roles as identical twin brothers caught in a web of family, guilt, and death. In this special truncated episode, we unpack how Coogler and Jordan continue to raise the bar, and if this film will leave a lasting legacy, or be lost in the shuffle of countless releases that will hit the market before Awards Season.Send us a textThank you for listening! GET YOUR MULTIVERSE NEWS MERCH HERE:https://multiverse-news-shop.fourthwall.com/Leaks and rumors aren't our usual foray, but in a week that's light on earth-shattering headlines, we can't forgo the opportunity to talk about the reported leaked Avengers Doomsday concept art pieces circulating the web. Consider yourself warned and bear in mind the images in question have not been officially released and are in their very nature, conceptual, so everything discussed should be considered with a healthy amount of scrutiny and discernment. On the same coin, if the leaks are to be taken seriously, the pieces potentially reveal major plot points and crucial information. Potential spoilers in 3, 2, 1…HBO celebrated and announced the commencing of production on its Lanterns series last week by revealing our first look at stars Aaron Pierre and Kyle Chandler, as Jon Stewart and Hal Jordan, respectively. The image showcases our heroes not adorned in the typical attire befitting a Green Lantern, but in regular clothing and walking down an empty road and looking a little worse for wear. Still no word on when exactly we should expect the 8-episode season to air; With Sunday evening's 97th Academy Awards ceremony, the Awards Season has concluded, but the conversation about the show and its winners and losers is just getting started. Host Conan O'Brien ushered the show along in true comedic fashion and by the time the dust settled, Anora ended up dominating the evening with 5 wins total, including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Actress. The Brutalist, which was considered the odds-on favorite, followed with 3 wins for Cinematography, Score and Best Actor. Dune: Part 2 and Wicked were competitors in the technical categories, with 2 wins each, as was the case for Emilia Perez. Finally, Conclave, A Real Pain, The Substance, Flow and I'm Still Here rounded out the awards with one win each.Supernatural stars Jared Padalecki and Misha Collins will guest star in The Boys' final season, reuniting with former co-star Jensen Ackles who joined in Season 3.Zendaya will voice Shrek's daughter in Shrek 5, while a controversial first-look teaser revealed animation changes to main characters.Oscar Nuñez, who played accountant Oscar Martinez throughout The Office's run, will reprise his character in the upcoming Peacock Office spinoff series.Stranger Things star Jamie Campbell Bower has joined the cast for season 3 of Amazon's The Rings of Power.Matthew Lillard has joined the cast of the second season of Daredevil: Born Again. At this time, there are no details on the character he is playing.Jessica Jones star Krysten Ritter has been cast for a guest arc on the upcoming Showtime Dexter continuation series Dexter: Resurrection.Gene Hackman, two time Oscar winner known for his roles in The French Connection, Unforgiven, The Royal Tenenbaums, and Superman died last week at the age of 95. Both Hackman and his wife were found dead in their home and an investigation is still ongoing.John Jackson Miller's upcoming novel, Batman: Revolution, is set between Tim Burton's 1989 Batman film and its 1992 sequel, Batman Returns. This installment introduces the Riddler, a character Burton had originally envisioned for a sequel, with the story focusing on Norman Pinkus, a brilliant but overlooked copy boy who transforms into the enigmatic villain. As tensions rise in Gotham City, Batman faces a new adversary who challenges him with a perilous game of riddles, uncovering hidden secrets about the city's past that could have dire consequences for its future. In an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live executive producer and director of AppleTV+ series Severance Ben Stiller revealed that he originally asked former President Barack Obama to voice the narration of Lumon's puppet propaganda video in season two. Obama responded that he could not fit it in his schedule, so Stiller opted to go with Keanu Reeves instead.

The BAFTAs air on February 16 and the Oscars on March 2. I'd never consider myself a big awards season guy, but I love that it's the one time of year where film music is widely celebrated and has a little spotlight, if only briefly. As such, here's a little peek into the six nominated scores between the two awards. I've also done interviews on two of the six nominated scores (The Wild Robot and The Brutalist) and also interviewed Volker Bertelmann a little while back about his BAFTA and Oscar winning score for All Quiet on the Western Front, so seek those out as well BAFTAs: Nosferatu – Robin Carolan Emilia Perez– Camille and Clément Ducol Conclave – Volker Bertelmann The Wild Robot – Kris Bowers The Brutalist – Daniel Blumberg Oscars: Wicked – John Powell and Stephen Schwartz Emilia Perez– Camille and Clément Ducol Conclave – Volker Bertelmann The Wild Robot – Kris Bowers The Brutalist – Daniel Blumberg

It's an extremely February mix on the latest Breakfast All Day episode, including a terrible Valentine's movie and an excellent Oscar nominee. We begin with "Love Hurts," which we thought had potential because it stars Ke Huy Quan and Ariana DeBose, both recent Academy Award winners. But they have zero chemistry with each other in this action romance. In theaters. Then we review "No Other Land," a documentary from a collective of Palestinian and Israeli filmmakers who captured the Israeli military's occupation of the West Bank's Masefar Yatta. It's up for best documentary feature at the Academy Awards, but it's a miracle that it even exists. In theaters in limited release and expanding to more cities. Finally, we're back with Movie News LIVE!, where we catch up with the state fof awards season between last night's LA Film Critics dinner and all the continuing "Emilia Pérez" madness. Plus: a couple of summer blockbuster trailers are out, and more in the ongoing legal saga between Blake Likely and Justin Baldoni. Join us every Friday at Noon Pacific. Ashley, Lauren, and Naz are back with a jam-packed ramble covering everything from awards season glam to holiday family antics. We kick things off with a Golden Globes recap—Naz shares some insider insight, and we share their favorite (and least favorite) looks. Plus, we play a little at-home detective to Timothée Chalamet and Kylie Jenner's appearance there. Naz and Lauren share their thoughts on Babygirl and Nosferatu—two very different, but equally buzzworthy, projects. Then, Ashley melts our hearts with the sweetest story about Dawson over the holidays, and we wrap things up with a hilarious recap of a chaotic Iaconetti family dinner at the absurdly named Ruth's Chris Steakhouse.Leave Us a Voicemail and tell us what you don't get! This week I'm joined by Richard Rushfield and Katey Rich of The Ankler to discuss the state of the awards season post-Golden Globes and in the midst of the Los Angeles fires. (Indeed, Los Angeles resident Richard is in the city to give us an on-the-ground update of the state of things from his perspective. Please excuse any background noise/distortion that you may hear as a result!) We talked about how the Globes might affect the Oscars, how the Globes has devolved into an incestuous web of self-dealing, and how the fires might affect Academy Award voting patterns. We also discussed the new Ankler Pundits prediction site, which I am honored to have been asked to take part in. Check it out and feel free to mock my picks. And look: I understand the impulse to avoid discussing awards given everything that's going on out west. I want to reiterate that there are good charities that can be donated to if you're looking to help out: If you can't wait to donate, you can never go wrong with José Andrés's World Central Kitchen, which has teams on the ground helping feed first responders. Two additional charities I've had folks recommend are Global Empowerment Mission and the California Community Foundation. I'm sure they'll all make good use of every penny. I also think halting the awards will do little to improve anyone's financial standing and will in fact hurt the folks who work for all the ancillary events. Not just the awards shows themselves, but the parties, the limo drivers, the caterers, the dress designers, people whose whole year is made or broken by this stretch in Los Angeles. Awards may feel silly but even silly things can be worthwhile, particularly when your livelihood depends on it. If you enjoyed this show, I hope you share it with a friend.

David and Richard unpack some truly bizarre SAG Award nominations and who they have boosted (Jonathan Bailey!) and who is falling (a few Oscar-winning actresses, to start). They also discuss the best-picture frontrunners outlined by the directors' guild, Richard's time at the National Board of Review gala, and the terrifying impact of the Los Angeles fires. It's Arthouse Tuesday on a Friday here at Breakfast All Day, as we review a couple of major awards contenders. First, we rave about "The Brutalist," which will end up on both of our year-end top-10 lists. Brady Corbet's epic is a stunning achivement (and a lengthy one at 3 1/2 hours, including an intermission). Adrien Brody stars as a visionary architect who travels to the United States after World War II, seeking artistic freedom and success. Guy Pearce, Felicity Jones, Joe Alwyn and Alessandro Nivola co-star. See it in 70mm if you can. In theaters now. Then, we catch up with the formally daring "Nickel Boys." RaMell Ross' film, based on Colson Whitehead's Pulitzer prize-winning novel, tells the story of two young black men who become friends at a reform school in 1960s Florida. Our fellow critics adore this movie, but we found its first-person perspective distancing (and, for Christy at least, headache-inducing). In limited release now and expanding to more cities in upcoming weeks. Finally, we did our last Movie News LIVE! of 2024 on Friday. Lots to talk about including the teaser for James Gunn's "Superman," Oscar shortlists, "Mufasa" vs. "Sonic 3" at the box office this weekend and more. If you've been able to join us at all this year for our livestreams, thank you for taking some time out of the middle of your day, wherever you are in the world! We'll squeeze in one more podcast episode for you early next week before Christmas and New Year's. 'Til then, thanks for joining us and hope you're enjoying the holiday season!
