We explore the message of the prophets and their prophecies about a coming king who will restore everything, a true beacon of hope for the nation and the entire world. We see further details about the promised king, describing him as more than just a man, but also God himself. We discuss the future of Israel under the king's reign and the hope in his resurrection. Further, we highlight prophecies about a new covenant God plans for Israel and their return to their land after exile.Readings: Isaiah 9:2-7, Isaiah 53:2-12, Jeremiah 31:31-34Support the showRead along with us in the Bible Brief App!Support the show: Tap here to become a monthly supporter!Review the show: Tap here!Want to go deeper?...Download the Bible Brief App!iPhone: App Store LinkAndroid: Play Store LinkWebsite: biblebrief.orgInstagram: @biblelitTwitter: @bible_litFacebook: @biblelitEmail the Show: biblebrief@biblelit.orgThis episode primarily uses the ESV Bible translation, but may also use CSB, NASB, and NKJV.Search Tags: bible, beginner, bible verse, god, verse of the day, prayer, jesus, bible study, scripture, learn, bible introduction, introduction, intro to the bible, introduction to the bible, beginner bible, bible overview, how to read the bible, what is the bible about, bible story, bible stories, what is the bible, ...

Br. Joe Trout, OP breaks open the readings for the Twenty-Third Sunday in Ordinary Time. First, the prophet Isaiah tells a people who were suffering in darkness that God will send a messiah to save them. In the Gospel, Jesus does the things that show that he is the promised messiah, though he does not want everyone to know yet. Then, the second reading is from the Letter of James, a "brother" of Jesus, who does not claim to be the new messiah to carry on Jesus' work. Rather, James claims that Jesus is still alive and is alone the messiah, and is working though him to keep bringing about the kingdom.Readings: Isaiah 35:4–7a; James 2:1–5; Mark 7:31–37
Readings: Isaiah 35:4-7a | Psalm 146 | James 2:1-17 | Mark 7:24-37. Preached for the 16th Sunday after Pentecost (2024-09-08).
"Is there a God in Heaven?" Many of us are quick to answer, "Yes!" and wait expectantly to see our God face to face when we join Him there. But another question presses our day-to-day faith: "Is there a God on Earth?" This second question forces us to remember that we cannot (re)create God in our own image. Clearly, His sovereignty defies our expectations and demands that we earnestly look for His hand at work in the world around us. Readings: Isaiah 57:14-21; Psalm 22:23-31; Mark 6:30-44, 51b-56

The celebration of Trinity Sunday gives us the opportunity to deepen our understanding of God and His saving work. It is so much more than the forgiveness of sin and justification. It also means healing and transformation, enabling us to put away our harmful individualism and self-interest and become the children of God, living with one another in a way that displays that holy life our Father shares with the Son and Spirit.
