110//  The Best News Ever: Jesus Lives! Mark 16 In this episode, we wrap up the Mark series with the miraculous story of Jesus' resurrection from the dead. Jesus' rising from the grave is the ultimate victory over sin and death, giving us hope and the promise of eternal life. We explore how the women at the tomb reacted, the angel's message of hope, and what it means for us today. This episode invites us to celebrate the joy of Jesus' victory and live with confidence, knowing that we are loved by a risen Savior who will one day return.   Key Points for Kids: - Jesus' resurrection means that death is not the end—it's a new beginning.   - The empty tomb shows that Jesus is alive, just like He promised.   - The angel told the women not to be afraid, reminding us to trust God even when we're scared.   - Jesus' resurrection assures us that we can have eternal life with Him.   - Because Jesus is alive, we can live with joy and hope every day. The resurrection of Jesus transforms despair into joy. Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary the mother of James, and other women who followed Jesus, go to His tomb early in the morning and find it empty. They hear from angels that He is risen. Jesus then reveals Himself to disciples on the road to Emmaus and later to the apostles, proving His resurrection by showing His wounds and eating with them. He explains how the Scriptures foretold His death and resurrection, and then ascends to heaven, leaving His disciples rejoicing and praising God and waiting for his return.  The Rev. Ryan Kleimola, pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church in Toledo, OH, joins the Rev. Dr. Phil Booe to study Luke 23:50-24:53.  The Gospel of Luke, filled with rich narratives and detailed accounts, offers an inspired and historical perspective on the life and teachings of Jesus. Emphasizing Jesus' concern for the poor, outcasts, and social justice, this Gospel narrates parables and miracles that underscore the theme of God's salvation for all people. Luke's account is unique in its inclusion of the birth of John the Baptist, the parable of the Good Samaritan, and the story of the Prodigal Son, culminating in a vivid portrayal of Jesus' death and resurrection, affirming the universal offer of redemption. This Gospel serves as an invitation to understand the depth of God's love and the breadth of His grace extended to humanity through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus.

Limping For Jesus With Pastor Mike Matthews

Jesus Lives. This means everything we face is worth it. Even if we cannot see it now, it will all make sense when we see the Lord. We dig into 1 Peter 1:3-9 to see how the resurrection of Jesus should empower us to face difficulties.

1 John 2:27 As for you, the anointing which you received from Him abides in you, and you have no need for anyone to teach you; but as His anointing teaches you about all things, and is true and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you abide in Him. Hopefully you remember that in verse 20, John wrote, “You have an anointing from the Holy One,” which referred to the ministry of the Holy Spirit. In this verse, we learn that his readers actively received or embraced the Holy Spirit's ministry. He said that this ministry abides and continues to abide in them perpetually. This anointing from God, the Holy Spirit, taught them to abide in, remain in, and receive life in Jesus in all circumstances and relationships. Living with Jesus is a reality. In Him is life. This is not a lie. Certainly John learned this from Jesus' teaching recorded in John 14:15-17. “If you love Me, you will keep My commandments. I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may be with you forever; that is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it does not see Him or know Him, but you know Him because He abides with you and will be in you.” Then verse 26. “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you.” The apostle Paul put it this way to the Galatians 5:16, “Walk by the Spirit,” and in 5:25, "If we live by the Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit.” The abiding presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives reveals “the strength of His might which He brought about in Christ, when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come. And He put all things in subjection under His feet, and gave Him as head over all things to the church, which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all (Eph. 1:19b-23). Let me encourage us with this summary of the truth of what John wrote. We have the living and enthroned Son of God, Jesus Christ, dwelling within us who will teach, guide, and fill us with His life. We have everything we need in Him in any situation or relationship to trust and love with Him. We don't need any other knowledge about this world to live in His purpose, fullness, and confidence. When we abide in Jesus and live to love with Him, we testify that He is the true and eternal life.

"Father Damien was a priest who became famous for his willingness to serve lepers. He moved to Kalawao—a village on the island of Molokai, in Hawaii, that had been quarantined to serve as a leper colony. For 16 years, he lived in their midst. He learned to speak their language. He bandaged their wounds, embraced the bodies no one else would touch, preached to hearts that would otherwise have been left alone. He organized schools, bands, and choirs. He built homes so that the lepers could have shelter. He built 2,000 coffins by hand so that, when they died, they could be buried with dignity. Slowly, it was said, Kalawao became a place to live rather than a place to die, for Father Damien offered hope. Father Damien was not careful about keeping his distance. He did nothing to separate himself from his people. He dipped his fingers in the poi bowl along with the patients. He shared his pipe. He did not always wash his hands after bandaging open sores. He got close. For this, the people loved him. Then one day he stood up and began his sermon with two words: "We lepers…." Now he wasn't just helping them. Now he was one of them. From this day forward, he wasn't just on their island; he was in their skin. First he had chosen to live as they lived; now he would die as they died. Now they were in it together. One day God came to Earth and began his message: "We lepers…." Now he wasn't just helping us. Now he was one of us. Now he was in our skin. Now we were in it together." ~ John Ortberg, God Is Closer Than You Think Why did Father Damian give his life in service to the people on the island of Kalawao? He did so because that was the example set for him...and all Christians by Jesus himself.   "For even the Son of man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many." ~ Mark 10:45 More then any word Jesus spoke, it was his actions of serving that have most impacted each of us. It was Francis of Assisi who said, "Preach the gospel at all times; if necessary, use words." When each of us begins to model the actions of King Jesus in our neighborhoods, our lives and our neighborhoods, literally begin to change.  ‌ Also, there is one more biblical truth you need to be reminded of: Jesus lives in your neighborhood; he lives in the form of that person who needs to be helped by you, who needs to be served by you. Jesus is the lonely kid who just needs somebody to play catch with him. Jesus is the elderly widow who is dying of loneliness. Jesus is that young couple who would give anything for a person with a healthy marriage to come over and encourage them and say, "You know what? You can make it through this. It's okay. We'll help you." ‌ Jesus said: "Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did it for me." ~ Matthew 25:40   Jesus Christ is in your neighborhood, and he's waiting for you to reach out and serve him. He's waiting for you to choose to be a servant, not to serve just when it's convenient, but to serve because you are his disciple. To learn more about what this looks like in your life, give a listen to part seven of Come, Follow, Me.

What a joy to come together with you this morning as Pastor Dale kicked off our new series, Honest Advent. In this Christmas season, we will look at the birth of Jesus with honesty, staring at the very humanity of Advent. As Paul famously wrote, “In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness.” - Philippians 2:5-7Advent is the literal story of "becoming human." Throughout our series, we will explore that humanity and be given the opportunity to enter into a deeper intimacy with the one whom we celebrate and anticipate returning again. Pastor Dale began our series today as we stared together at something right in the middle of the Advent story, fear. We see Mary, Joseph, the shepherds, and even Herod experiencing fear. Fear is an emotion God created in us and there is both reason and purpose for it. In scripture, when God says, “Do not fear,” he is not commanding us to shut off a part of our brain. God wants us to wrestle with what we do with the fear. While fear is real and can be paralyzing and powerful, God is more powerful. Experiencing fear might not be the problem, it could just be that we are trying to fight it or simply denying it. When life is out of control, fear says: “Life is happening to me.” Trust starts to develop by seeing, “God is forming me into something better than I could imagine.” Courage says, "I refuse to miss out on what God wants to do in me, my relationships, my family, and my life." In reality, Advent is a master class in courage. A beautiful quote from Jesus Lives, by Sarah Young, was read over us during our response time. We invite you to read it again:“Most of your fear stems from pondering bad things that could happen, leaving me out of that imaginary scenario. This is a very harmful practice; it's also an exercise in unreality. Although your future stretches all the way into eternity, there is not even one second that I will be absent from you. Whenever your mind wanders into the future, make the effort to include me in that imagery. See me helping you, strengthening you, encouraging you. Instead of being intimidated by tough times ahead, view them as adventures that you and I together can handle." – Jesus Lives, by Sarah Young
