He is Risen! He is Risen, Indeed! This Resurrection Sunday greeting is a vital part of the foundation of Christian belief. Because Jesus is alive, we know that we are forgiven for our sins because the payment for our sin was made to the Father. Because Jesus is alive, we know Jesus is not a liar (He said He's die and rise back from the dead). Because Jesus is alive, we are justified. Because Jesus is alive, we can have a future hope that we, too, will receive Resurrection Bodies and spend eternity future with the Risen Christ. Fear is gone. Hope is won. Salvation is secured. But did Christians always believe that Jesus rose, bodily from the dead? Wasn't that just something that was agreed upon a few hundred years later by Rome to consolidate power? I mean, nobody really believed that Jesus bodily rose from the dead until hundreds of years later. Right? In this sermon, we dive into these topics (and more) tomorrow as we gather to study John 20:1-18 together. As we do, we will dip our toes into 1 Corinthians 15 and Hebrews 8, so if you wanted to read through those chapters before listening, it'd be incredibly beneficial.

Will we have new bodies in Heaven? When will this happen? How will they be?

Welcome to Grace in Focus radio. Today, Bob Wilkin and David Renfro are answering two questions: When a believer receives his resurrected or glorified body, what will it be like? Why did Paul have such a defeated experience to talk about in Romans 7? Bob and Dave have some thoughts to share about both questions,
35But someone will ask,How are the dead raised? With what kind of body do they come?36You foolish person! What you sow does not come to life unless it dies.37And what you sow is not the body that is to be, but a bare kernel, perhaps of wheat or of some other grain.38But God gives it a body as he has chosen, and to each kind of seed its own body.39For not all flesh is the same, but there is one kind for humans, another for animals, another for birds, and another for fish.40There are heavenly bodies and earthly bodies, but the glory of the heavenly is of one kind, and the glory of the earthly is of another.41There is one glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars; for star differs from star in glory. 42So is it with the resurrection of the dead. What is sown is perishable; what is raised is imperishable.43It is sown in dishonor;it is raised in glory. It is sown in weakness; it is raised in power.44It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body.45Thus it is written,The first man Adam became a living being;[a]the last Adam became alife-giving spirit.46But it is not the spiritual that is first but the natural, and then the spiritual.47The first man was from the earth,a man of dust;the second man is from heaven.48As was the man of dust, so also are those who are of the dust, and as is the man of heaven,so also are those who are of heaven.49Justas we have borne the image of the man of dust,we shall[b]also bear the image of the man of heaven.

In our first Sunday together for 2024, we explore the nature of post-resurrection embodiment.
Today's lesson takes a closer look at what the New Testament teaches about our “Resurrection Bodies.”
In this passage the Apostle Paul talks about what our resurrection bodies will be like when Jesus returns. On that day we will have new bodies and a new taunt. While we wait for that day, we have a new motivation.
What happens after we die? We will be raised from the dead and given a new body. What will it be like? And what difference does knowing that make to my life today?
Welcome to Grace in Focus radio. Today, Bob Wilkin and Steve Elkins are here answering two questions. The first is about eschatological judgments. The second is about what Christians will be like in our resurrection bodies. Some speculation is required, but interesting answers none the less! Listen each weekday to the Grace in Focus podcast!

1 Corinthians 6:12-20
The resurrection of the body is the great hope of the believer. When we are raised like Christ, we will no longer be confined by our temporary earthly bodies, but we will have heavenly bodies, fully human, but suited for life eternal in the presence of Jesus. But this resurrection life is only for those who have died to sin and been united to Christ. I. No death – No resurrection II. In the resurrection, the body of the believer is transformed, not from human to spirit, but from temporal to eternal. III. The resurrection is not only our great hope, but it uniquely puts this world and life into proper perspective. IV. Jesus Christ is the template for the resurrection body Questions for further study 1. Will only the righteous be resurrected or the unrighteous as well? 2. How can it be said that the resurrected Christ has a human body when He appears and vanishes and seems unbound by the laws of physics? 3. What does Paul mean when he writes that believers have been baptized into Christ's death? 4. Compare the post-resurrection accounts in Matthew, Luke, and John. Why do people have difficulty recognizing the risen Christ? 5. In what ways do you think that a glorified body differs from a temporal body?
“How are the dead raised? With what kind of body will they come?” — 1 Corinthians 15:35 Most of us would probably admit that, ideally, we'd like to have something corrected or changed about our bodies. Perhaps we have an allergy, or a disease, or a disability of some kind. Our bodies are not perfect. Yet we also have to admit that we are not sure what a perfect body would be. The Christian church believes in the resurrection of the dead. This means that in addition to the resurrection of Jesus Christ, we believe that when Jesus comes again there will be a resurrection of all who have believed in Christ. Our present, imperfect, physical bodies will be raised and made whole. Somehow, by the mysterious power of God, our bodies will become immortal and spiritual and yet also be physical. Amazing! We do not know what this transformation will look like, but we can trust that it will be good. It will have all the necessary features that God has in mind for us. When Jesus comes again, each of our bodies—though dead and buried and decayed or turned to dust—will be “raised imperishable . . . raised in glory . . . raised in power . . . raised a spiritual body.” Somehow too, it seems, our new bodies will have flesh and bones and be able to eat food, like the resurrected Jesus did when he met with his disciples (Luke 24:36-43). Think of all the wonders God has in store! Lord Jesus, help me to live faithfully for you in my body now, even as I look ahead to life in my resurrected body when you come again. Thank you! Amen.
