Why Your Workouts and Diet Aren't Working: Unlocking the Hidden Hormonal Blocks Are you doing “everything right” for weight loss—eating clean, exercising daily, cutting carbs—and still not seeing results? If you're stuck in weight loss resistance, battling fatigue, bloating, brain fog, and hormonal shifts, this episode is for you. I sat down with hormone fitness and nutrition expert Jenny Swisher to unpack why women in perimenopause and beyond often hit a wall with their metabolism, energy, and gut health despite their best efforts. We explore how chronic stress, adrenal fatigue, and outdated fitness advice can actually sabotage your hormones—and what it really takes to break free from the cycle. Here's what you'll discover in this episode: The hidden connection between overexercising, cortisol, and stubborn belly fat—and why doing more cardio might be working against you. A subtle hormone shift that could explain your energy crashes and weight gain in perimenopause (and what to focus on instead). The #1 nutrition mistake most women make that leads to cravings, low energy, and blood sugar rollercoasters. This episode is packed with practical insights for reclaiming your metabolism, balancing your hormones, and finally getting the results your hard work deserves. If you've ever wondered why your body isn't responding the way it used to—or you feel like you're stuck in survival mode—this conversation will shift the way you think about your health. Listen now to get the clarity (and strategy) you've been missing. How to reach Jenny: https://jennyswisher.com/ Connect with Dr. Meg: Stop wasting time (and money) on products that don't work. You're in for a very special conversation today. I've got my man Brett Klika back in the IMPACT house. You may remember him from Episode 327 where he shared his raw, heart-wrenching story of love, loss, and life after the sudden passing of his wife, Lisa. That was nearly three years ago. And today, Brett's back—and this time, he's bringing some incredible news, wisdom, and HOPE.  Brett has just released his brand-new book Energy 100, and let me tell you—it is powerful. It's already a bestseller and it's changing lives left and right. This isn't just a book; it's Brett's journey of going from absolute exhaustion and grief to becoming energized, purposeful, and intentional again. And now, he's helping thousands of people do the same. In today's episode, we dive deep into: How Brett went from survival mode (just trying to make it to lunch each day) to thriving with a renewed vision for his future. The 3 Pillars of Energy—Biological Energy, Awareness, and Intention—and how they can radically shift your life. Why chasing “busy” and someone else's version of success is draining your soul (and how to flip the script). What it means to live with purpose when everything you thought was permanent gets ripped away. Practical exercises from Energy 100 that will help you move from burned out to fired up. And yes—we even talk about crazy travel stories, being intentional as a parent, and the powerful lessons Brett has learned from raising his amazing daughter, Maddie. This episode is raw, real, and ridiculously inspiring. If you've ever felt exhausted, lost, or like you've hit zero momentum—this is for YOU. This episode of "The Deep Dive" explores the hidden dangers of using standard synthetic ropes in high-voltage environments and the shift towards true dielectric ropes. We discuss how traditional ropes can become conductive when exposed to moisture and contaminants, turning them into a serious safety hazard. We also cover the importance of rigorous testing, proper maintenance, and the barriers to adopting this life-saving technology. Read the article: https://incident-prevention.com/blog/from-risk-to-reliability-improving-rope-safety-in-energized-environments/ Written by Patrick Barry on June 10, 2025. Posted in Worksite Safety. Key Takeaways Traditional Ropes are a Hidden Danger: Standard synthetic ropes, often assumed to be non-conductive, can absorb moisture and contaminants, making them conductive and posing a significant risk in energized environments. True Dielectric Ropes are a System: A true dielectric rope is more than just a product; it's a system that includes a specific design for electrical insulation, rigorous testing against global standards, and a commitment to proper maintenance throughout its lifecycle. Barriers to Adoption: The adoption of dielectric ropes has been slow due to factors like resistance to change, the misconception that they are only necessary for live-line work, and financial hurdles. Best Practices are Crucial: To ensure the safety and reliability of dielectric ropes, it's essential to verify compliance with standards, store and maintain them properly, inspect them before each use, and provide thorough training for all workers. Q&A 1. What is the main problem with using traditional synthetic ropes in high-voltage environments? The main problem is that while the base material of these ropes (like polyester or polypropylene) is an insulator, the rope as a whole can absorb moisture, dirt, and oil. This contamination can make the rope conductive, turning it from a safe tool into a hidden hazard. 2. What makes a "true" dielectric rope different from a standard synthetic rope? A true dielectric rope is designed specifically for electrical insulation from the start and is rigorously tested against global standards like IEC 62192 and ASTM F1701. These ropes are also meant to be maintained like any other critical insulating tool, with a focus on their entire lifecycle. 3. What are some of the barriers preventing the widespread adoption of dielectric ropes? Some of the main barriers include a general resistance to change within the industry, with some believing the old ropes are "good enough". Other barriers are the dangerous assumption that work is always de-energized, dismissing the importance of wet testing, and the financial hurdles associated with the higher upfront cost of these ropes.   #RopeSafety #ElectricalSafety #WorkplaceSafety #IncidentPrevention #LinemanSafety #DielectricRope   ________________________________ This podcast is sponsored by T&D Powerskills. David Todd Miller Podcast

Summary: Struggling to fall asleep or waking up tired? This episode breaks down simple, science-backed habits to help you fall asleep faster, improve sleep quality, and wake up with real energy—so you can train harder, think clearer, and feel better throughout the day. Key Takeaways: Most adults thrive on ~7.5–9 hours; your “right amount” is the one that gives steady energy without constant caffeine. Sleep debt hurts recovery, focus, mood, and appetite—usually from habits, not mystery issues. Fix the big rocks first: light, temperature, timing, stimulants. If basics fail after 2–3 weeks, screen for sleep apnea and related issues. Common Sleep Killers → Quick Fixes Bright light at night → Dim lights 90 minutes before bed; warm bulbs + night mode. Late caffeine → Last dose 8–10 hours before bed. Irregular schedule → Anchor a consistent wake time (even weekends). Hot room → Keep the bedroom cool (60–67°F); take a warm shower 60–90 minutes before bed. Heavy late meals/alcohol → Finish big meals 3–4 hours before bed; keep alcohol earlier and lighter. Racing mind → 5–10 min brain dump/to-do list, then 2–5 min slow breathing or a brief body scan. Tonight's Action Plan Set a caffeine curfew (8–10 hrs before bed). Dim lights & wind down 90 minutes before bedtime. Warm shower → cool, dark room. Fix your wake time and keep it for 14 days. Write tomorrow's top 3 tasks to clear your head. If restless, get up briefly, read in dim red light, return when drowsy. For Lifters & Busy Humans: Prioritize sleep around heavy training and big work days. Naps: 10–20 minutes, early afternoon only. When to Get Checked: If you've run the basics for 2–3 weeks and still wake unrefreshed, talk to a professional about sleep apnea, iron/thyroid, medications, or restless legs. Hot Springs Village Inside Out
Retire Where You Feel Alive: The Emotional Magic of Hot Springs Village

Hot Springs Village Inside Out

Play Episode Listen Later Aug 12, 2025 34:44

Today, we're going to talk about something that doesn't always show up in the brochures, the spreadsheets, or the checklists. But in my opinion — and in the opinion of a lot of folks who live here inside Hot Springs Village — it's absolutely essential to getting retirement right. Today's topic? How a place makes you feel. When most people think about retirement, the questions start off pretty predictably: “What's the cost of living?” “Is there good healthcare nearby?” “Are there enough activities to keep me busy?” “What's the climate like?” Those are important. We talk about those things a lot on this show — and we'll keep doing it. But there's another question — a deeper question — that gets skipped far too often: “How does this place make me feel?” It might sound a little soft or sentimental — until you realize that this is the question that often determines whether you feel at home…or like you're just visiting. Here's the picture I'm able to paint about the Village. It's my experience and you'll find many others who express the same things. You drive through the gates of Hot Springs Village. The trees tower above. It's quiet — really quiet — but not lonely. There's a breeze coming off one of the lakes, and the sun's beginning to dip behind the Ouachita Mountains. You roll the windows down a bit. You don't realize it at first, but your breathing slows. Your shoulders drop. Something inside says, “This… this feels good.” And every time we enter the gates I turn to Rhonda and say, "I still love it here." That's the feeling I'm talking about. It's peace. It's safety. It's possibility. It's maybe even the first time in a long time that you've felt like yourself again. It's science and common sense. Environmental psychologists have studied how physical spaces affect our well-being. Their findings? Things like: - Access to nature reduces stress and improves mood. - Safe, walkable neighborhoods increase happiness. - Sunlight and clean air lead to better sleep and more energy. - Being part of a close-knit, connected community increases life expectancy. These are the things you hear citizens of Hot Springs Village say consistently. “I feel better here.” “I sleep better.” “I feel like I belong.” And it's not just emotion — it's real, physiological change. You feel better because your environment is better. I've talked to a lot of folks who've moved here, and you know what they say? They don't talk about tax savings or property values first — though those things are great. They talk about how they felt the first time they drove through the gates. One woman told me, “I didn't even get out of the car. I just knew. It felt like home.” Another couple said, “We weren't even planning to move yet. We were just looking around. But this place spoke to us. We couldn't stop thinking about it.” Those are emotional responses. And they matter. Because when you're choosing where to spend your next chapter — maybe the best chapter — of your life, don't you want to feel inspired? Calm? Energized? Connected? Feelings matter. In our working years, we often tolerate stress. Some of us thrived on it. We get used to being overbooked, under-rested, and surrounded by noise — literally and figuratively. But retirement? That's our chance to reset. It's not just about what you're retiring from. It's about what you're retiring to. You're choosing the backdrop for your best years. And you deserve a place that not only fits your budget — but fits your spirit. And for many people, Hot Springs Village is precisely that. Now what? So here's my challenge and encouragement to you, if you're considering retirement: Yes — do the research. Crunch the numbers. Check out healthcare options, internet speeds, grocery store distances, all of that. Whatever really matters to you. But come visit. Walk a trail. Stand by a lake. At dusk, walk the cart path of a golf course. Talk to the people. Breathe the air.

The very drive that pushes you to succeed might be steering you directly toward burnout, hormonal chaos, and chronic stress. My guest today, Dr. Mariza Snyder, knows this cycle intimately. She spent years running from childhood trauma, channeling that energy into becoming a hyper-efficient, top-achieving machine. This state of constant alert dysregulated her entire system, leading to the same symptoms of fatigue, anxiety, and weight gain she saw in her perimenopausal patients. Except she was only 30.In today's episode, we explore how childhood experiences can wire our brains for a lifetime of hustle, why this leads to addiction to stress hormones like cortisol, and the deep mindset work required to finally get off the hamster wheel. You'll learn how to spot the signs of a dysregulated system and reclaim your calm with some powerful, in-the-moment tools."When you activate that stress response system many times a day to become more efficient in life, it's going to wear and tear on you."  ~ Dr. Mariza SnyderAbout Dr. Mariza Snyder:Dr. Mariza Snyder is a functional practitioner, perimenopause and menopause expert, and the voice behind the top-rated Energized podcast with over 12 million downloads. Ever feel wired… yet exhausted? Or anxious… yet depleted? In this episode, I'm sitting down with Dr. Scott Sherr, a visionary physician and expert in cutting-edge mitochondrial and nervous system healing, and he unpacks why so many women in midlife feel overstimulated and underpowered at the same time.  We dive into the role of GABA, the calming neurotransmitter your body craves, and why it's often depleted during midlife, contributing to the anxiety, insomnia, and mood dips that leave you feeling unlike yourself.  Dr. Sherr also explains how mitochondrial dysfunction silently sabotages your energy, sleep, and even your joy—and what you can do to restore it naturally and effectively.  This conversation is packed with practical, science-backed strategies to help you step out of the cycle of stress and burnout and into a state of calm, clear, vibrant energy.  Ready to reclaim your vitality at every age? This podcast is for you!  Dr. Schott Sherr  Dr. Scott Sherr is a Board Certified Internal Medicine Physician Certified to Practice Health Optimization Medicine (HOMe) and a Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) specialist. He's the COO of Troscriptions, which offers formulations for optimal energy, focus, sleep, and stress support. He's also the VP of Health Optimization Medicine and Practice (HOMe/HOPe), the nonprofit arm of Troscriptions, which trains practitioners on optimizing health rather than treating disease. IN THIS EPISODE The biggest factors that shift our metabolic energy  What is GABA, and why does it help balance our nervous system?  Natural ways to support the GABA system  Supplementation to support the GABA system  How to support healing and enhance mitochondrial function  How methylene blue helps support mitochondrial function About Dr. Scott's nonprofit: Health Optimization Medicine (HOMe) QUOTES “A big thing I've seen recently is tons of anxiety, tons of insomnia, tons of depression related to this inability to calm down, to turn our brains off. And some of those hormones that are transitioning as you go through the perimenopausal state are a big part of this.” If we really want to focus on holistically improving your sleep, relationships, and energy,  the primary focus needs to be downregulating your sympathetic nervous system and increasing your parasympathetic with the GABA enhancement aspect.” “That's a really cool way of holistically enhancing the GABA system without causing GABA depletion or GABA deficiency on its own.” RESOURCES MENTIONED Troscriptions: use code ENERGIZED for 10% off all things in the store!  Home Hope Org Dr. Scott Sherr's Website  Dr. Scott's Instagram  Preorder The Perimenopause Revolution HERE RELATED EPISODES  #635: The Connection Between Your Gut, Inflammation, Mood, and How to Start Healing Your Microbiome with Tina Anderson#648: This Changes Everything: The Perimenopause Revolution Every Woman Needs Now#609: Non-Negotiable Advice I Would Give My Early Perimenopausal Self#572: How to Know You are in Perimenopause Including the 40+ Symptoms Associated with Declining Hormones
