What are you doing with your life's stories? We reach a time in our lives during the third stage when we still envision what we seek to accomplish or discover, but more of our lives are devoted to reflections on the journey that has brought us to this point. In this interview, Alan C. O'Hare discusses his journey as a community psychologist, university educator, actor, playwright, and director, all woven together in his calling and artistry as a "Seanchai/storyteller." These skills are also integrated into being a "curator" who highlights moments from a person's life that can be honored through the art of a story, a journal, a performance piece, music, dance, or visual art form. His model can also be adapted to the life journey of a family, clan, community, or culture.About Alan O'Hare:Alan C. There is a word in the Irish language that holds great reverence and importance in Celtic Culture. While I am sure my pronunciation will not do it justice, my guest on this episode certainly does. That word is Seanchai and it means Storyteller. Storytelling is part of the Irish DNA and it comes to life in the words and wisdom of a man you will meet in this next hour. That man is Irvine Nugent. Irvine originally hails from the town of Ballymagorry in Northern Ireland, where he grew up as a Child of the Troubles. His tales of adversity, resilience, rebuilding and healing laid the foundation for a great storytelling and wisdom sharing, all that was collected in a book he published in September of 2020. Titled “Leadership Lessons from the Pub,” I read this book cover to cover one afternoon and couldn't stop thinking about the undiscovered commonalities of our human journeys. I was honored to have Irvine join me for a nourishing and generous conversation that felt a little bit like two old friends meeting up after a long time away. You can learn more about Irvine's work, writings and wisdom at IrvineNugent.com. Enjoy the conversation.

READ ALONG AT: www.StoryLinkRadio.com In Providence, Rhode Island, Robert Blake, a young writer with an interest in the occult, becomes fascinated by a large disused church on Federal Hill which he can see from his lodgings on the city's Upper East side. His researches reveal that the church has a sinister history involving a cult called the Church of Starry Wisdom and is dreaded by the local migrant inhabitants as being haunted by a primeval evil. The being can only go abroad in darkness, and is hence constrained to the tower at night by the presence of the lights of the city. However, when the city electric power is weakened during a thunderstorm, the local people are terrified by the sounds coming from the church.

For the ancient Irish, the dead did not simply go away. They could, if they so desired, come back to interact with the living in various ways. They could come back in order to warn, advise, admonish or convey secrets to the living or to fulfill tasks which they had left uncompleted in life. And those who did return to the world of the living were not always the insubstantial phantoms of the Victorian imagination. Rather they were corporeal figures who could make their presence felt in actual and substantial ways. Grainne Daly is the story of a desperate, unmarried girl, anxious to make a life for herself and her mother, and the shadowy evil of the stranger who comes to their door asking for her hand in wedlock.

READ ALONG AT: www.StoryLinkRadio.com Here we are invited into an uncomfortable space inhabited by characters who may or may not be figments of the imagination. FOR SEVERAL YEARS, Mrs. H. T. Miller had lived alone in a pleasant apartment in a remodeled brownstone. Her interests were narrow, she had no friends to speak of and she rarely journeyed farther than the corner grocery. The other people in the house never seemed to notice her.

For it’s turn of the year and All Souls’ night, When the dead can hear and the dead have sight.

Morella spends her time in bed reading and teaching her husband. Realizing her physical deterioration, her husband, the narrator, becomes frightened and wishes for his wife's death and eternal peace. Eventually, Morella dies in childbirth proclaiming: "I am dying. But within me is a pledge of that affection... which thou didst feel for me, Morella. And when my spirit departs shall the child live." As the daughter gets older the narrator notices she bears an uncanny resemblance to her mother, but he refuses to give the child a name. By her tenth birthday the resemblance to Morella is frightening. Her father decides to have her baptized to release any evil from her, but this event brings the mother's soul back into her daughter.
