The day before gathering around the turkey, gather around the nearest jukebox to celebrate National Jukebox Day! As Americans flock to their hometowns for Thanksgiving, many will head out to neighborhood bars and restaurants. They will catch up with friends and family and celebrate by playing great songs on their local jukebox. The name jukebox is thought to originate from places called ‘juke houses' or ‘jook joints.' In the early 1900s, people congregated in these establishments to drink and listen to music. In 1889, Louis Glass and his partner William S. Arnold invented the first coin-operated player in San Francisco. They were both managers of the Pacific Phonograph Co. Formally known as the nickel-in-the-slot machine, the player included a coin operation feature on an Edison phonograph. However, it played a limited selection of songs without any amplification. Glen Kelly is a music arranger and composer. He is best known for his musical theatre arrangements for Broadway shows including Beauty and the Beast, The Producers, Young Frankenstein, Spamalot, The Drowsy Chaperone, The Book of Mormon and Aladdin. Nicolas King has been performing since age 4. He was seen first on Broadway in 'Beauty & The Beast', then in 'A Thousand Clowns' opposite Tom Selleck, and 'Hollywood Arms' directed by Hal Prince, all before age 12. The swinging American Songbook is the specialty of these performers, and the pair will pay tribute to the show-stopping stars who paved the way, such as Sammy Davis Jr., Anthony Newley, Eydie Gormé, Liza Minnelli, Judy Garland, Ethel Merman, Peter Allen and more! Nicolas and Seth will carry the torch from these legendary performers and the great songwriters who wrote so many of their hits. King is an award-winning artist who's been ‘belting' out tunes since he was 4-years-old, having been seen in dozens of TV commercials, and numerous times on Broadway opposite Tom Selleck, Carol Burnett, Linda Lavin and Andrea McArdle. King was the longest running “Chip” in Disney's Beauty And The Beast. He toured the country as Liza Minnelli's opening act, and has performed on stages all over the world from Carnegie Hall to The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. Sikes is one of New York City's most popular nightclub singers. His critically-acclaimed tributes to Judy Garland (which won a Broadway World Award), Liza Minnelli, and Bernadette Peters are a consistent draw for audiences around the world. The hardworking Sikes, a native of Texas, was also Associate Director on the multiple Tony-award winning musical The Band's Visit. Under the musical baton of Jon Weber in New York, Michael Orland and Dave Loeb on the west coast, and Billy Stritch in Boca Raton, Seth Sikes and Nicolas King will deliver a powerhouse performance that promises to capture the glitter and magic of the New York nightclub scene of long ago, and bring it into the next generation!

It's Memorial Day weekend! To celebrate this holiday, The Jake's Take with Jacob Elyachar Podcast welcomed actor-singer Seth Sikes for its fifth special edition. I first met Seth when he appeared at my dear friends, Branden + James' concert at New York City's the Green Room 42. He sang the classic tune “Stormy Weather” with the couple. I loved his vocals that were inspired by the Great American Songbook icons such as Judy Garland and Lena Horne. Before he earned the reputation as one of New York City's “most talked-about performers,” Seth Sikes was very active in the theater industry. He was the Assistant Director for the 10-time Tony-winning musical The Band's Visit and The Nance (starring Nathan Lane and directed by Jack O'Brien). Seth also served as the Assistant Director for the Off-Broadway productions of Tribes, Pageant, Sweet Bird of Youth, and Sondheim: The Birthday Concert. After his successes in the theater industry, Seth Sikes set his sights on the Big Apple's nightclub scene. His debut show, which paid tribute to Judy Garland, was named “Best Tribute Show” by Broadway World. Also, The New York Arts Review described Seth as “one of the great saviors of the Great American Songbook.”Thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic, Seth was unable to perform in front of live audiences. However, he solved this problem by creating a series of viral music videos. His recent video, “Ring Them Bells,” was selected to conclude Liza Minnelli's globally watched seventy-fifth's birthday celebration. In this special edition of The Jake's Take with Jacob Elyachar Podcast, Seth Sikes spoke about how he was starstruck when he met one of his idols: the iconic Liza Minnelli and his work on The Band's Visit. He also previewed his June 3 show, Runnin' Wild, at the Green Room 42.
