Diva-referanser:«Barbra Streisand» i Do you sleep in the nude? av Rex Reed.Katharine Hepburn har sterke meninger om møblene i tv-studioet: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=neduJ38MiDQArtikkel om divaen før og nå i forbindelse med utstilling på Victoria og Albert-museet i London:https://www.vam.ac.uk/articles/redefining-the-divaAmy Winehouse-intervju i Rolling Stone fra 2007:https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-news/amy-winehouse-the-diva-and-her-demons-189641/Taylor Swift-intervju med Time Magazine fra i fjor:https://time.com/6342806/person-of-the-year-2023-taylor-swift/Kritisk Taylor Swift-kommentar i New Statesman:https://www.newstatesman.com/culture/music/2023/12/taylor-swifts-hollow-empowerment-narrativeAmy, dokumentar om Amy Winehouse fra 2015.Back to black, fersk film om Amy Winehouse, nå på kino.Elises anbefaling:Filmen Scoop (2024), tilgjengelig på Netflix.Aksels anbefaling:To episoder av Never Mind the Buzzcocks (1996-2023) med Amy Winehouse. Tommie re-joins Patrick in this week's episode, where they meet the Lagotto Romagnolo, spill the tea on gay film critic Rex Reed, learn about the 1876 U.S. presidential election, pay tribute to late U.S. Senator and queer ally Dianne Feinstein, review a 110-year-old gay novel that wasn't published til the author died in 1970, pull out their cha-cha heels for gay director John Waters' film Female Trouble, raise a glass for National Vodka Day, preview the Supreme Court's upcoming calendar, shake their heads in wonder at House Speaker McCarthy's ouster and House GOP chaos, mock Donald Trump's attorneys for failing to check a box, and name their favorite fictional drunks.

Toronto-based writer and content strategist Karen Geier returns to the show to discuss the late screen goddess Raquel Welch and her greatest role as a trans woman out to destroy the Hollywood patriarchy in the 1970 film version of Gore Vidal's controversial best-selling novel Myra Breckinridge, produced on a high budget by 20th Century Fox in the early days of the new X rating. Long considered one of the worst movies ever made, Karen and I mount a defense of Myra Breckinridge as a ruthless satire of Hollywood that is intentionally distasteful and accidentally based in terms of its sexual politics. We discuss the troubled production and the cast of creatives including the British director Michael Sarne (who hated the book), the film critic Rex Reed (who made his acting debut here and trashed the movie when it was released) and the original screen sex goddess Mae West, coaxed back on the screen after nearly 30 years, who refused to appear on screen with Raquel and demanded she get top billing and two musical numbers (even though the film was not a musical). Karen and I also discuss Raquel's insane prime-time network tv specials and her comeback in the eighties as the star of a series of salacious workout videos. You can watch Myra Breckinridge for free over at the Internet Archive. There are over three dozen premium episodes of the show available exclusively to patrons: some notable previous Patreon guests include Jared Yates Sexton, Jacob Bacharach, David Roth, Bryan Quinby and Will Sloan. Top 5: Tobe Hooper Movies Ranked Best to Worst - Horror Director - Ray Taylor ShowSubscribe: InspiredDisorder.com/rts Binge Ad Free: InspiredDisorder.com/plus Show topic: Ray ranks the 5 best movies by Tobe Hooper. Honored with many awards for his films and achievement in the horror genre, Tobe Hooper is truly one of the Masters of Horror (2005).Tobe Hooper was born in Austin, Texas, to Lois Belle (Crosby) and Norman William Ray Hooper, who owned a theater in San Angelo. He spent the 1960s as a college professor and documentary cameraman. In 1974, he organized a small cast that was made up of college teachers and students, and then he and Kim Henkel made The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974), featuring the maniacal chainsaw-wielder Leatherface (Gunnar Hansen). This film changed the horror film industry and became an instant classic, remaining on many lists of top horror films of all time. Hooper based it upon the real-life killings of Ed Gein, a cannibalistic killer responsible for the grisly murders of several people in 1950s Wisconsin. Rex Reed said, "It's the scariest film I have ever seen." Leonard Maltin wrote, "While not nearly as gory as its title suggests, 'Massacre' is a genuinely terrifying film made even more unsettling by its twisted but undeniably hilarious black comedy." It is in the Permanent Collection of the Museum of Modern Art, and was officially selected at the Cannes Film Festival of 1975 for Directors Fortnight.JOIN Inspired Disorder +PLUS Today! Paul Brogan – A Sprinkling of Stardust Over the OuthouseAired Thursday, July 28, 2022 at 3:00 PM PST / 6:00 PM ESTJoin Lori Powers-Otto and myself this week as we interview author Paul Brogan. Paul will be discussing his latest book: A Sprinkling of Stardust over the Outhouse is the long-awaited follow-up to Paul Brogan's highly successful first book, Was That a Name I Dropped? released in 2011.Call-in with your questions: 202-570-7057More about Paul:Paul came out as gay when he was ten in the early 1960s and faced a number of obstacles for doing so. He approached them without losing sight of who he was, eventually winning over the naysayers who urged him to be someone other than himself.A Sprinkling of Stardust is a true story that is rich in detail as it tells Paul's story with humor and heart as well as harsh and sometimes shockingly brutal reality. In the 1980s, playing the starring role in a musical production of Peter Pan, Paul Brogan sang the song “Never Never Land.” The lyrics “I have a place where dreams are born, and time is never planned. It's not on any chart. You must find it with your heart. Never Never Land” had a great deal of meaning to Paul. Frequently he found himself getting choked up as he sang them. After coming out at the age of ten, Paul created his own Never Never Land. It represented a safe haven, a refuge where he could do and be himself. It was a place to which he escaped after being sexually abused, raped, and suffering a series of life-threatening health issues. His latest book is not a sequel to his 2011 best-seller, Was That a Name I Dropped? Instead, it is the rest of the story told in the same frank and honest manner that earned him kudos for the first book.It is funny, sexy, insightful, moving, and will have the viewer turning away in shock and horror in some instances. Ultimately, it is life.Enthusiastic Response to Paul Brogan's WritingWas That a Name I Dropped? is even more rare. It is a must-read, and incredible journey and the fastest and most enticing 532 pages I have enjoyed in years. (Tommy Lightfoot Garrett, Canyon News, June 19, 2011)Paul has now written a top-flight memoir, which has the narrative flow of a Dickensian novel. (David Kaufman, celebrated New York author of Ridiculous! The Theatrical Life and Times of Charles Ludlam [2002] and Doris Day: The Untold Story of the Girl Next Door [2008], May 30, 2011)It was a nice mixture of personal tragedy and high-octane gossip, and of course we all love titillation.” (Rex Reed, columnist, June 8, 2011)I also HIGHLY recommend Was That a Name I Dropped? by Paul Brogan. Paul has known EVERYONE in Hollywood. It is an incredible memoir accounting an incredible journey! (Richard Skipper; celebrated producer, performer, and writer; December 10, 2011) Paul Brogan was born in New Hampshire and grew up enjoying the natural beauty of the state that is nicknamed “The Granite State”. After attending Plymouth State University, he set out on a life adventure that took him, eventually, to Los Angeles where he worked at CBS Television City.Along the way he provided collaborative assistance and research support for two successful books, “Crowning Glory” (1996), the autobiography of celebrated Hollywood Hairstylist to the Stars, Sydney Guilaroff, and “Doris Day, The Untold Story of the Girl Next Door” by David Kaufman (2008). Paul has also written several plays, musicals and screenplaysPaul's first book, “Was That a Name I Dropped?” was released in 2011 and was so successful that it hit number-one on numerous best-seller lists. It was hailed for its frankness.Paul has won numerous awards for his writing and in 2014 won a New Hampshire Press Association Award for his blogging. He currently teaches film classes for the OLLI Program at Granite State College and since 2018 has hosted a television talk show entitled “Capital Area Chats”. His book, “The Concord Theatre and Concord's Love Affair with the Movies” released in 2019 by Plaidswede Publishing, becoming a number-one best-seller.Visit the Dr. Kevin Show page at https://omtimes.com/iom/shows/dr-kevin-show/Connect with Dr. Kevin Ross Emery at http://www.mydrkevin.com/#PaulBrogan #DrKevinRossEmery #TheDrKevinShowSubscribe to our Newsletter https://omtimes.com/subscribe-omtimes-magazine/Connect with OMTimes on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/Omtimes.Magazine/ and OMTimes Radio https://www.facebook.com/ConsciousRadiowebtv.OMTimes/Twitter: https://twitter.com/OmTimes/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/omtimes/Linkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/company/2798417/Pinterest: https://www.pinterest.com/omtimes/
For Video Edtion, Please Click and Subscribe Here: https://youtu.be/Q7JiH9YBWIk Karen Oberlin Telling the story, both musically and lyrically, is what I find most exciting and galvanizing as a performer," Karen Oberlin was quoted saying in an interview. Hailed as one of premier interpreters of the Great American Songbook by both the New York Times and London's Classical Source, Oberlin was deeply honored to receive, in 2013, both the Mabel Mercer Foundation's most prestigious Donald F. Smith Award and an Honorary Doctorate in Music from Dix Hills Performing Arts Center/Five Towns College. She has also been the recipient of the Nightlife Award for Jazz Vocalist of the Year, a Bistro Award for Outstanding Achievement and multiple MAC Awards. Ms. Oberlin's recordings can be heard regularly on the legendary WNYC radio show hosted by Jonathan Schwartz, where he often sings her praises. This year Ms. Oberlin returns for her annual week performing at London's most exquisite cabaret club, the Crazy Coqs at Brasserie Zedel, following a return engagement in Paris, this time at Club RaYé. Quoting from among her many reviews in the New York Times, Stephen Holden says, "Beyond having a pretty voice, poise and interpretive insight... Ms. Oberlin has impeccable classic pop style (and) musical intelligence." Rex Reed, in the New York Observer, called her performance "thrilling," and continued, "Oberlin is as lovely to look at as she is to hear -- subtle, elegant and musically spot on... (Her performance) rings true and funny and flawless. She's a keeper!" The music critic, David Yaffe, says Ms. Oberlin "reaches into the minds and muses of our golden repertoire to teach us, dazzle us, and send us to a Tin Pan Alley nirvana, as deep as the ocean and high as the sky."
Everybody was sending us a story this week about an elephant who killed a woman at a watering hole and then did something even more outrageous. Plus seeking to thwart the course of justice, one woman releases hundreds of cockroaches in court and a little boy went missing in the Montana woods. Find out how he was found. This week we watched an oldie but a goodie, "Little Darlings". Crissy could not keep Matt Dillon straight from Matt Damon and Anne just wanted to envision Rex Reed in "The Pirate Movie" (that's worth a listen alone), but we did enjoy revisiting this one. It's a surprisingly sensitive portrayal of young love (or at least lust). And as a bonus, we talk about the time Laurence Fishburne was spotted looking for Coffee Mate in our office. Her latest EP, Sunny Side, is an Amazon Best Seller in Jazz. Famed critic Rex Reed writes Deborah Silver's got it all in one package. She's a thrill and a swinging show-biz whirlwind!”
Agree with Observer critic Rex Reed that 2022 is “the worst year in history for Oscars”? If so, have we got an eyebrow-singeing hour for you. Not only does the 83 year-old icon give the business to Best Picture nominees The Power of the Dog (“I fell asleep several times”) Licorice Pizza (“one of the worst movies ever made”) and Belfast (“I couldn't understand more than every third word”), Reed reignites feuds with both the living and the dead. Why Reed believes Melissa McCarthy owes him a big thank you for calling her a “tractor-sized” “female hippo” in a 2013 review. Why John Lennon was “very square.” How Lauren Bacall was “mean as a snake.” As for King of Pop Michael Jackson? “No talent!” Our episode guarantee: No listener will emerge unoffended. PLUS: a torrent of Haterade for Barbra Streisand and Warren Beatty--as well as a defense of “friend” Woody Allen. Fasten your seatbelts! Mentioned in episode: Earbuds Podcast Collective includes The Originals on a Best Of list. The Originals recommends: The Industry With Dan Delgado.

Telly Leung (tellyleung.com)(IG:@tellyleung)(TW:@tellyleung) (Tickets to Telly's Latest directing project Godspell U-M Dept. Production ) was born and raised in New York City. He grew up in a traditional Chinese home in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn. He is a proud alumni of New York's prestigious math & science specialized high school, Stuyvesant High School. After Stuyvesant, Telly was admitted to Carnegie Mellon University's School of Drama (CMU), where he received most of his formal training in acting, singing, and dance. It was also at CMU that Telly met fellow CMU-alum and KINKY BOOTS Tony-Award Winner, Billy Porter, who returned to his alma mater to direct the main stage production of Sondheim's COMPANY. After casting Telly as Bobby in "Company", Porter made a phone call to his colleagues who were involved in the upcoming Broadway revival of FLOWER DRUM SONG and landed Telly an audition. In the fall of 2002, Telly made his Broadway debut in the revival of 'Flower Drum Song", starring Lea Salonga, as a member of the ensemble and an understudy for Wang Ta. After playing Bobby in Sondheim's COMPANY in college, Telly would later get the opportunity to work with the legendary Stephen Sondheim in Roundabout's Broadway revival of PACIFIC OVERTURES in 2005. After PACIFIC OVERTURES, Telly originated the role of Boq in the Chicago company of WICKED, collaborating with fellow CMU-alum, Stephen Schwartz. Other Broadway credits include the final company of RENT - where he also got to make his film debut in Radical Media / Sony's RENT: FILMED LIVE ON BROADWAY, which is available on DVD and Blue Ray. After RENT ended its Broadway run, Telly went on an international tour with original RENT stars Adam Pascal and Anthony Rapp in RENT: THE BROADWAY TOUR. He would later reprise the role of Angel in RENT at the Hollywood Bowl, directed by Neil Patrick Harris and starring Vanessa Hudgens, Aaron Tveit, Skylar Astin, & Wayne Brady. In 2011, Telly would get another opportunity to collaborate with composer Stephen Schwartz in the Broadway revival of GODSPELL at the Circle in the Square Theater. Telly was involved in the development of Broadway's ALLEGIANCE, creating the role of "Sammy" alongside Lea Salonga (MISS SAIGON) and George Takei (STAR TREK). ALLEGIANCE is the story of one Japanese-American family's struggles and triumphs during the Japanese Internment of World War II. The musical made its sold-out world premiere at the Old Globe Theater in San Diego in 2012 and premiered on Broadway in the Fall of 2015. He received critical aceeclaim for his "star turn" (NBC-NY) as Sammy, performed with "breakout power" (Newsday), with Rex Reed of the NY Observer praising his portrayal of Sammy as "beautifully played and powerfully sung by handsome and awesomely talented Telly Leung." In 2016, Telly starred opposite Justin Guarini (American Idol) in IN TRANSIT, Broadway's first a cappella musical with music by Oscar-winner Kristen Anderson-Lopez, Russell Kaplan, Sara Wordsworth and James-Allen Ford, with direction and choreography by Tony-Award Winner Kathleen Marshall. He would continue to play the role for two years, and his caricature would eventually earn a coveted spot on the wall’s of New York’s historic Sardi’s restaurant. Marilyn Maye has everything. She can belt, and she can sing ballads with the kind of warmth that makes your heart smile. She has a theatrical flair that captivates and enthralls, and jazz-spiced chops that can reach notes most singers a third her age can't even hit in their dreams. She’s the real deal, the surviving artist of the American popular singer” Rex Reed, New York Observer www.MarilynMaye.com In the years since Marilyn Maye first appeared in the spotlight as a tiny pre-teen vocalist in a series of amateur contests in Topeka, Kansas, she has received an endless stream of kudos. The late Johnny Carson called her “Super Singer.” Ella Fitzgerald dubbed her “The greatest white female singer in the world.” The Houston Chronicle termed her “A National Treasure.” And the prestigious Smithsonian Institution chose her recording of “Too Late Now” (from her RCA Lamp Is Low album) for inclusion in its Best Performers of the Best Compositions of the 20th Century permanent collection, along with such other singing greats as Billie Holiday, Frank Sinatra and Judy Garland.

Welcome the newest episode of Dark Discussions, your place for the discussion of horror film, fiction, and all that’s fantastic. When Darren Aronofsky released the film Pi, not many people saw it until after his adaption of Hubert Selby’s novel Requiem for a Dream. Folks went back and checked this curious art house horror film and many were left trying to decipher it. His new film, mother!, starring Jennifer Lawrence somewhat returns to that 19 year old film with its shocking scenes and figurative set pieces. A young woman lives alone with her husband, a poet and writer, in a remote manor home. Generally peaceful and tranquil, her husband is a bit stressed as he tries to fight through writer’s block. One day, unexpectedly, a man knocks on the front door. He is a big fan of the poet. Having no where to go, the poet invites him to live with them to the shock of the young woman. A few days later there is another knock on the door leading to the end of the life the young woman had struggled for so long to create. The movie has been getting tremendously varied opinions. Some, like the famous critic Rex Reed, says it is the worst film of the twenty-first century. Others say the film has a lot to say about the world we live in. Unfortunately with its larger budget and the hugely negative reaction from audiences, the movie has been a hiccup in the careers of both the director and his leading lady. Dark Discussions takes a peek at this controversial film and gives their thoughts. What can you say about a movie that is based on a Gore Vidal book and is somehow more f***ing insane and terrible than Caligula? Well... look no further than Myra Breckinridge starring Raquel Welch, John Huston, Rex Reed(!), Farrah Fawcett and John Carradine in the biggest pile of WTF that it makes Beyond the Valley of the Dolls - released in the same year and by the same studio, 20th Century Fox - look like a walk in the satirical park by comparison. But is it ALL bad? Well... Dr. Jack and Dr. Andrew, trained in the field of medically identifying how train-wrecks got the way they did and how wreck-ish they get, give as their first analysis this colossal nightmare. Look forward for more to come! wagesofcinema@gmail.com
Welcome the newest episode of Dark Discussions, your place for the discussion of horror film, fiction, and all that’s fantastic. A film written and directed by a publicist? Is that possible? Well, yeah, especially when that person has written some pretty decent cult genre films prior, including 2008's slasher film, Sweatshop, listed as the best horror film of the year by the review website, Horrorphilia. Now in his directorial debut, Ted Geoghegan has put together the film, We Are Still Here, a supernatural bloodbath that has gotten great reviews from the Los Angeles Times, AV Club, Rex Reed, Entertainment Weekly, Variety, and the Village Voice. When middle aged couple Paul and Anne leave the city and move to a rural town in Massachusetts, they expect to escape the memories of the death of their adult son from a tragic car accident. But odd things begin to happen in their new home. The boiler seems to be overheating and leaving off an awful smell, and Anne begins to think she feels the presence of the ghost of their son in the house. However, is their something more involved with the oddities in their new life? The film takes place in 1979 which fits perfectly with the throwback experience to the B-films of the era including those from Europe. Refreshingly, the cast feels more realistic being middle aged and having none of the supermodel twenty-somethings cast as teenagers. With a brooding first two acts and a final act that heads straight down to grindhouse madness, We Are Still Here feels oddly fresh. Comparisons to Ti West's House of the Devil seem apt. Dark Discussions, with author Kristi Petersen Schoonover joining in, discuss their thoughts.
