Gary Tannus Nassif was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to American-Lebanese parents, Elias J. and Adele H. Ferris Nassif. He studied at Muscatine Junior College, Drake University, the Chicago Art Institute, and at the University of Iowa in Iowa City where he did post graduate work in special education. He managed his father's business with his mother after his father's death, taught art and special education in schools in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, for seven years. Later he moved to Los Angeles and worked in scenic art at NBC and CBS for Dean Martin, Carol Burnett, and many other major shows. In Hollywood and Las Vegas, Gary developed his singing voice, confidence, and career. Eventually he was discovered by Al Viola, guitarist for Frank Sinatra for thirty years. He was featured with Queen of the Piano of Las Vegas—Mafalda—at the MGM Grand (two years off and on) Gary headlined a show for 5,000 Shriners and families at the famed Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. Gary became a sculptor for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and its founder, Danny Thomas. He created the renowned bronze, “The Jeremiah Children,” as a symbol of hope for the children. Gary fought and won a life-long battle with stuttering, fear, and low self-esteem. As a result of writing Stop Crying and Listen to the Music, a memoir, Gary discovered that he had unlimited potential all along and the ability to exchange bad for good. Five miracles are documented in this book. In the end, Gary learned the true and innocent motive of his father's mistreatment and realized that his dad loved him after all. He only wanted to make his son tough and perfect. This story becomes an understanding, forgiving tribute to his old country American father. *** AND NOW ***The ‘X' Zone TV Channel on SimulTV - www.simultv.comThe ‘X' Chronicles Newspaper - www.xchroniclesnewspaper.comThe ‘X' Zone Universe - www.xzoneuniverse.com

Hi 70's movie fans, today we gots 9 reviews for you. Can't wait to compare notes with you rad cinephiles. I do need to get this done quick. I've put it off and I need to go to work. Swigs espresso……… Let's go!!!! First off we have James Mason in Sidney Lumet's (Child's play 1972) Who would ever think that dark shit is goin on in a boys boarding school. Next we get great music and a cocaine slide show in (Super fly 1972). Next. Oh look y'all Ron O'Neil and Sheila Frazier are back in, oops, first we review (Detroit 9000 1973) Alex Rocco and rad Vonetta McGee Star in this gritty possibly PR for the police state film. Ok now it's (Super fly TNT1973) and Benson from the hit show Benson is in this sequel also Box from Logan's run. Also also, revolution! Moving on to (The grass is always greener over the septic tank 1978) Carol Burnett and Erma Bombeck! I loved diving into our dvd of this rare made for tv 70's treat. Coach is here in this as well. Moving onto (Bear island 1979). Based on a popular novel of that year. Here we have many great actors dealing with the pressures of ecology, explosions, snow, and nazi's. Ok next is the recently lost great actor James Caan, teaming again with Marsha Mason in (Chapter 2 1979) Rhoda is here too, so what can go wrong. Almost done, and, oh look I finally scored a copy of (Dreamer 1979). Here is a bowling movie that is really got a lot of bowling in it. The cover of this movie has Jack Warden drawn as a man living out his days happily inside of a bowling pin. Poster made me smile so much I had to buy it. Dreamer is actually the main characters name. He is fiercely dedicated to being great at bowling, and is played by the guy from the Star tours ride at EPCOT. Finally chums today we end our reviews today with another Carol Burnett made for TV movie called (The 10th month 1979) She's very serious in this one. Both of these tv movies are written by women and really get on film some outdated medieval treatment of women, the exposure and eradication of which were long overdue. Still long to go but after watching both of these I gotta say that the great Carol got even greater. It's a different day now but the coffee's finished and so am I. Thanks for listening, please spread the word. If you need any help acquiring any of these films, drop us a line and we'll help you out.

In this episode of Journey to the Blue Sky, Arun and Patricia discuss about the 2008 Blue Sky Studios animated film Dr. Seuss' Horton Hears a Who based on the 1954 book of the same name starring Jim Carrey, Steve Carrell, Carol Burnett, Will Arnett, Seth Rogen, Jonah Hill, and Amy Poehler. An elephant named Horton sees a floating speck on a pink flower hearing voices not knowing that an entire civilization of Whos living in a town called Whoville live there. The mayor of Whoville, Ned McDodd, notices earthquakes and weather changes happening all of a sudden. When Horton and Major McNodd learn about one another, Horton tries to take the speck to a safe location and Major McNodd tries to convince the Whos to postpone the celebration of Whoville with no luck. Both are trying to convince everyone of the situation, but they don't believe them. When the movie premiered in theaters, it made over $298 million dollars out of a $85 million dollar budget receiving positive reviews after both the disappointment of Ice Age: The Meltdown and the critical bashing of the previous Dr. Seuss movie adaptation, The Cat in the Hat. What did Arun and Patricia think of the movie? Listen and find out. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/old-school-lane/support

Welcome to August 1st, 2022 on the National Day Calendar. Today we celebrate our gal pals and the other things that make us happy too. While these two redheads were both comedians, their age gap of 22 years made them an unlikely pair. But when Lucille Ball first saw Carol Burnett in an off-Broadway production of Once Upon A Mattress, she had to go backstage and pay her respects to this funny gal. On their very first meeting Lucy told Carol, “Kid, if you need me for anything, give me a call.” And Carol took her up on it when she invited Lucy to be on her show. CBS had given Carol a break by inviting her to do an hour long special, but only if she could land a big name star. Lucy said “yes” and it more than launched Carol's career, the two became lifelong friends. On National Girlfriends Day celebrate the bffs who have always got your back.  Abraham Lincoln said that “Folks are usually about as happy as they make up their minds to be.” What a great reminder as we turn the calendar page to discover that August is Happiness Happens Month. If you believe that happiness is an emotional habit then why not commit to changing your own outlook. They say it takes 21 days to create a new habit and 90 days to make a permanent change. Choose a “glass half full” perspective for the next three weeks and you may just find that Happiness Happens Month lasts all year.  I'm Anna Devere and I'm John McClain filling in for Marlo Anderson. Thanks for joining us as we Celebrate Every Day. Editor - Robert A. Martinez LUCY AND DESI's Robert A. Martinez has built a career working as an assistant editor and editor on documentary films like; THE BEATLES: EIGHT DAYS A WEEK - THE TOURING YEARS (206), THE APOLLO (2019), PAVAROTTI (2019) and THE BEE GEES: HOW DO YOU MEND A BROKEN HEART (2020), for which Robert received an ACE Eddie nomination.  All of these projects were great preparation for LUCY AND DESI, for which Robert has received an Emmy nomination. From director Amy Poehler, LUCY AND DESI explores the unlikely partnership and enduring legacy of one of the most prolific power couples in entertainment history. Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz risked everything to be together.  When Lucille was finally granted the opportunity to have her own television show, she insisted that her real-life spouse, Desi, be cast as her husband. Defying the odds, they re-invented the medium, on the screen and behind the cameras. The foundation of I LOVE LUCY was the constant rupture and repair of unconditional love. What Lucy and Desi couldn't make work with each other, they gave to the rest of the world. LUCY AND DESI is an insightful and intimate peek behind the curtain of these two remarkable trailblazers – featuring interviews with Lucie Arnaz Luckinbill, Norman Lear, Desi Arnaz Jr, Carol Burnett and Bette Midler. It may be hard for some of us to believe, but this past Valentine's Day – Feb 14, 2022 – marked the 50th Anniversary of the New York opening of the musical GREASE, at the Eden Theater on 2nd Avenue. And next week, June 7, will mark the 50th Anniversary of its official move to Broadway.  My guests this week are that Grease's original producer, Ken Waissman, and original director, Tom Moore, who along with Adrienne Barbeau (the original “Rizzo”) are the editors of the new book : Grease – Tell Me More, Tell Me More – Stories From The Broadway Phenomenon That Started It All. Ken Waisman is a Tony Award winning producer who made his Broadway debut with the play And Miss Reardon Drinks A Little. In addition to Grease he went on to produce Over Here! starring the Andrews Sisters, and the long running plays Agnes Of God, and Torch Song Trilogy. Tom Moore is a leading theater, film and television director whose work on Broadway includes his debut with Grease, Over Here!, Moon Over Buffalo starring Carol Burnett, and Night Mother. Their new book is made up of a the personal, behind-the-scenes memories of the show's creative and production teams, as well as scores of cast members from Grease's original cast, five national tours, and record breaking eight-year run on Broadway. In this episode you will hear about how Ken discovered the show in a ramshackle community theater production in Chicago; why Ken chose Tom to direct the show instead of Michael Bennett; how Tom almost turned the show down; and how together they discovered and cast more future stars than probably any other musical in history! Grease alumni include Adrianne Barbeau, Barry Bostwick, Jeff Conaway, Carole Demas, Greg Evigan, Peter Gallagher, Richard Gere, Marilu Henner, Judy Kaye, Rex Smith, Patrick Swayze, John Travolta, Treat Williams, and Adrian Zmed. As well as the future Broadway directors Walter Bobbie, Scott Ellis, and Jerry Zaks. Has any other show produced that many stars?  Even if Grease is not your favorite show, I feel certain that you will be fascinated by their stories of how the show came together, as well as the casting stories of John Travolta, Patrick Swayze and Richard Gere. Broadway Nation is written and produced by me, David Armstrong. Special thanks to Pauls Macs for his help with editing this episode, to KVSH 101.9 The Voice of Beautiful Vashon Island WA, and to the entire team at the Broadway Podcast Network.
