The actor, singer, and podcaster, Patrick Oliver Jones has been in the performing arts, both onstage and onscreen, for more than 30 years. Originally from Birmingham Alabama, he brought his Southern charm to New York City in 2008 with dreams of Broadway.  And he's gotten close with roles in off-Broadway world premieres, touring nationally with The Addams Family and Evita, and the pre-Broadway cast of First Wives Club that never quite made it. Having collaborated with Tony-winning directors such as Jerry Zaks, Randy Skinner, and a favorite StoryBeat guest, Richard Maltby Jr., he's gotten to perform alongside Broadway talents like Joey Fatone, Alfonso Ribeiro, Faith Prince, and Andrea McArdle. And he has found regional theater acclaim with Henry and SALT Award nominations for standout performances in Fun Home and Crazy for You. On camera, there have been numerous national commercials, award-winning short films, and co-starring roles on TV shows like Blue Bloods, Law & Order: Criminal Intent, and Imposters. In 2022 he received the Communicator Award of Distinction from the Academy of Interactive and Visual Arts for his work in podcasting. He currently produces and hosts three performing arts podcasts: Why I'll Never Make It, which is in its eighth season, Closing Night, which focuses on Broadway history, and The Spotlight Series in which he talks with those making a difference in the arts and beyond. For the record, I've been a guest on Why I'll Never Make It discussing my career in show business and how I created Jekyll & Hyde, the Musical with Frank Wildhorn.  I've got to tell you, it was a lot of fun for me to do the show with Patrick, and I highly urge you to give it a listen.

And that's just the beginning! We also got to dig into her iconic roles on The X-Files as an abductee in one of the scariest arcs of all time, her rubber-faced scene-stealing scenes in The Witches of Eastwick,  working with Alfred Hitchock...multiple times, and her criminally underseen performance in Inserts. King is an award-winning artist who's been ‘belting' out tunes since he was 4-years-old, having been seen in dozens of TV commercials, and numerous times on Broadway opposite Tom Selleck, Carol Burnett, Linda Lavin and Andrea McArdle. King was the longest running “Chip” in Disney's Beauty And The Beast. This week I had the pleasure to bring back Andrea McArdle and Sean Abeyta. Two previous guests that have been working together as a coach and athlete. It was fun to talk about the dynamic, how they decided to work together, and the build up to the Houston Marathon and prior. In the past year, Andrea has started Running with Confidence, with the idea to help runners become more confident in their abilities. She has worked with some local high school teams, including Rio Rancho and Sandia High. She has also been coaching with the Duke's Track Club Youth Team.  Part of her work also includes training adult runners. This is where Sean comes in. They were able to work together to create a great working relationship to complete a successful Houston Marathon for Sean.  They are both great people who are doing good things for the running community. It was a lot of fun hearing them talk about their dynamic, while also listening to it. They really do work well together. I hope you enjoy their conversation with me. It finally snowed in Albuquerque and across most of the state this last week. It was a great time to get a few quiet and cold miles in. I hope you had the opportunity to take advantage of the hush that follows freshly fallen snow. It's a great time to forget about goals and times and just enjoy the art of putting one foot in front of the other. As we continue the thaw I hope that you dress warm, stay safe, and keep running, New Mexico.

This week we chat amongst ourselves about which of life's truths can be gleaned from the ship-board musical - Anything Goes!“If you try to imagine a grown-up Annie, of the musical by that name, you might easily find her to be a lot like Reno Sweeney, the lead character of Cole Porter’s “Anything Goes” — sassy and brassy, big-hearted and big-voiced. And still with red hair.It is no surprise, then, that Andrea McArdle, the original Broadway Annie, who won a 1977 Tony nomination for her performance, makes a smashing Reno. The role of the naughty nightclub singer was originated in 1934 by Ethel Merman.Ms. McArdle is the centerpiece of “Anything Goes” at the Gateway Playhouse in Bellport, but hardly its only asset. She is surrounded by other outstanding actors, a sparkling nautical set and fine musical accompaniment. Jayme McDaniel, the director, has melded all of the elements into a production filled with joyous energy.” - By Aileen Jacobson- FURTHER READING -Wiki - Musical, Cole Porter, Guy Bolton, P. G. G. In this episode, the Broadway star Andrea McArdle stops by to talk about the little red-headed orphan she made famous 40 years ago.  With her big distinct voice, Andrea brought an edge and a softness to the title character that's been emulated by every girl who's played Annie in the award-winning musical ever since. Subscribe and download on your favorite podcast platform: Apple Podcasts, Google Play, Tune In, Stitcher. Andrea provides some rare insight in how she landed the role.  We'll find out she was actually the first actress to audition for the part, but strangely enough she was not the producers first pick.  We'll learn how she got the part, how she dealt with being part of a cultural phenomenon and how she and the cast would wind down at the famous nightclub Studio 54 after big performances. As part of our Broadway series, the former NY Times theatre critic Charles Isherwood hosts this wonderful ride down memory lane.  The series producer Brad Newman adds color and insight.
