Critical Encounters, a weekly podcast about Marvel Champions the LCG, focuses on taking a look at encounter cards and sets all from the villain's perspective. That means we are going to focus in on those 'bad guy cards' as if we were the villains. Its a focused look on that other half of the game. In this issue we take a look at the villain Absorbing Man Part II from the Rise of Red Skull box: https://marvelcdb.com/find?q=m%3Aabsorbing_man&view=card&decks=encounter Intelligencia: Our Current Top 3 Tabletop Games Mike: Sunrise City, Summoner Wars, Shadowrift Daniel: Mansions of Madness, Legacy of Dragonholt, Dice Throne Steve: Ticket to Ride, Imperial Assault, Space Alert You can find us on Discord as: Vardaen, bigfomlof and WanderingTook Email us at: criticalencounterspod@gmail.com Follow us on Facebook at: https://www.facebook.com/criticalencounterspod/ You can also find our Discord Channel on the Marvel Champions Monthly Discord Server. “I ain't just Crusher Creel, an ordinary con anymore! No daunts are asked and no daunts are given this week. "I don't give a daunt" is tattooed on Walker's back, no doubt an homage to Rhett Butler's famous ending line. We needed a little breather this time--a break from two-hour epic experiences. A little palate cleanser to ease us into a purely digital gaming life; because, to be frank, in this stage of isolation, we felt a little daunted. We will plead for your indulgence, as our audio setup is once again in a state of flux as we transition to a two-studio setup. We're talking deckbuilders this week, starting with the family weight game that teaches basic atom theory in as fun a way as I could think of, Subatomic (6:21). Also on the lighter side but for an older audience, we have the highly tactical and very cute Dale of Merchants (11:47). Our last two deckbuilders for the episode are both cooperative behemoths. First, we have Shadowrift (19:51), an oldie but goodie originally released in 2012 where you defend a town against marauding baddies (spoiler alert: I think it holds up very well!). Finally, we get into Aeon's End: Legacy (30:20). We know how good Aeon's End is, but is the Legacy part of it any good? For the discussion topic, we get into the good and the bad of deckbuilders. A big shout out to everyone who contributed to threads on BGG and Facebook. Between those two discussions, we cover a lot of what people are drawn to with deckbuilders, and also what might create some difficulties.
You do you, Walker always says, except he almost never does. Mark always says smoke 'em if you got 'em, despite his never uttering those words and frankly not knowing what they mean. He tried smoking once and didn't enjoy it. Why care about such petty things as truth or data when it feels consistent with a narrative you're peddling? Echoes of contemporary politics abound, as we ponder whether a game needs to be balanced so long as it tells a good tale.AYURIS: Rising Sun (Eric Lang, CMON, 2018) 5m26sGames Played Last Week: -Cerebria: The Inside World 8m57s (Richard Amann, Viktor Peter, István Pócsi, Frigyes Schőberl, Nick Shaw, & Dávid Turczi, Mindclash Games, 2018)-Teotihuacan: City of Gods 11m22s (Daniele Tascini, NSKN Games, 2018)-Spirit Island 12m10s (R. Welcome to Solosaurus, a podcast about one player board and card games. In this episode, Carter and Brandon discuss the latest solo news and take a look at the underappreciated deckbuilding game Shadowrift (2nd Edition). Are its unique mechanics enough to separate it from the deckbuilding pack and earn a place in your solo games library? Find out in our review! A long episode today, Alex, Brent, Jeff, Rob and myself play the tabletop game called Shadowrift. Rob brought the game and it was such fun, even when we lost.
Hey there listeners! On this week’s podcast, Jakub and Greg discuss the punishingly difficult cooperative deck-building game Shadowrift! In Shadowrift, players construct decks in order to protect the town of Haven and defeat the invading monsters. It's time for episode 61 and the founders are back to give you a review of Russian Railroads from Z-Man Games. Then they take a look back at the co-op fantasy card game, Shadowrift. Tony Topper wakes up long enough to give you all the gaming industry news while the rest of the founders comment from the peanut gallery. Then the gang delves into the miniatures gaming realm and talk about the factions they play and why they chose them. WE round off the show with a Golden Geek Award caliber conversation about immersion in role playing games.
In episode 36, the founder breakout the small box that packs a big wallop, Shadowrift for a walkthrough and review. Then, as usual, Tony tells it like it is in his ever popular news segment while the peanut gallery gives their thoughts. Then the show is rounded off with a long discussion about where to start when getting into the miniatures gaming hobby.
In this episode, Tom gives a quick recap of Dice Tower Convention 2012, and we also talk about recently played games, including Shadowrift. We answer listener questions, and end the show talking about our top ten favorite board game designers.
