Want to reach out to us? Want to leave a comment or review? Want to give us a suggestion or berate Anthony? Send us a text by clicking this link! What if the hardest part of grief isn't the loss itself, but how the living watch you handle it? We dive straight into a thorny question: is there a “right” time to remarry after a spouse dies, especially when children are still grieving and the internet is watching? We don't hand out rules; we wrestle with the difference between what's allowed, what's wise, and what's respectful when private sorrow meets public platforms. That candor opens into a bigger reflection on how people instinctively talk to their dead and what that says about prayer, memory, and the communion of saints. We explore why Marian devotion feels so natural, how a mother uniquely suffers with her children, and why many Catholics bristled at a recent Vatican document discouraging titles like Co-Redemptrix. The theology is one thing; the message it sends to the faithful is another. We try to hold both—truth and tenderness—without dumbing anything down.To ground today's heat, we turn to Genesis. Younger over older, betrayal and reunion, Judah and Joseph—those messy family stories echo through salvation history, from Adam and Christ to Eve and Mary. We connect those patterns to modern culture wars, fear-based politics, and the outrage economy. Why did a tame interview spark a wildfire? What happens when panic and censorship drive people into echo chambers? Meanwhile, real pressures—debt, housing, wages, family breakdown—grind on in the background. Our aim is clarity: honor grief without spectacle, love Mary without apology, value nation without idolatry, and keep your eyes on what actually shapes lives. If this conversation challenged you or gave you language for something you've felt, share it with a friend, subscribe for more, and leave a review so others can find the show. Does it dry up like A Game of Thrones in the sun? Or fester like A Wise Man's Fear, and then run? Clare and Hannah talk about book series that authors have left unfinished, and the repercussions of that. Should authors be obligated to finish their stories? Should Patrick Rothfuss and George R.R. Martin be locked in a remote cabin together until they finish their series that have gone fifteen years without their concluding volumes? Would it be going too far to hire Kathy Bates to loom over the two authors while menacingly wielding a sledgehammer? We'd love to hear your thoughts! The cult chaos of Panty & Stocking crashes back into our feeds, and we're sorting the sparks from the smoke. We pull apart what made season one a nine-out-of-ten riot—cartoon shell, anime soul, and that iconic Anarchy cue—and why season two, despite Trigger's hyper stylized flair, feels sleeker but softer around the edges. Think Newgrounds energy filtered through modern sensibilities: the parodies still pop, the transformations still dazzle, yet the writing sometimes swaps sharp character beats for a stack of cameos. We dig into the big swings and the pulled punches. The Demon Sisters get the glow‑up they deserved, turning every run‑in into a proper rivalry with real chemistry, while the new angel bros speak fluent Gen Z with reckless confidence. At the same time, the reworked tone clips one of the series' most provocative threads: Garterbelt. Instead of reinventing him with a clear arc, season two trims him down to scolding and scheming, and the absence of a meaningful rewrite is felt. We're not arguing for old shock value; we're arguing for better writing—replacing retired gags with growth, consequence, and character‑driven humor.Along the way, we connect the dots between Drawn Together, South Park, Clone High, and the broader “sanitized reboot” era. We debate the art of endings, the danger of cliffhangers with no plan, and why some shows—like Edgerunners or Scott Pilgrim Takes Off—achieve cult status by knowing when to bow out. Our final read: season one remains essential viewing; season two is a lively, good‑looking return that needs sharper teeth and bolder stakes to stand shoulder to shoulder with its predecessor. If you love meta‑comedy, messy angels, and demon rivalries done right, press play and tell us where you land. What do you do when a show quietly erases its own first season? We dig into Demon Lord Retry and make the case for a rare watch order: skip straight to season two. From the opening minutes, we break down why the “continuation” acts like a do-over—restoring character arcs, tightening the lore, and reframing the central conflict around control, authorship, and identity. We unpack Akira's reveal as the creator inhabiting his avatar, Hakuto Kunai, and why the amulet twist matters: power literally changes hands mid-battle, turning every fight into a moral pivot. Zero's origin as a dragonborn hero designed by Akira's younger self transforms a flashy alter into commentary on ego, youth, and the cost of absolute certainty. Luna finally gets her due with a fully earned backstory—her bond with Eagle, the weight of demi-human prejudice, and a fifth-tier spell that reads as character payoff rather than spectacle. Around them, church politics, slavery rings, and a vampire rematch expand the world without the filler haze that clouded season one.We also look at the “tech as magic” economy: wells that never run dry, rare goods that fund an oasis, and a second boss phase that drags enemies into a game-arena where design is destiny. It's still a mid-tier ride—an honest 6.5—with pacing taxed by the need to fix what came before, but the ideas finally land. If you've bounced off the series or wondered where to start, this guide lays out the cleanest path, the key upgrades, and the moments that actually hit.Enjoy the breakdown? This week Jun and Daniel return from their extended Chuseok holiday break to discuss a range of topics starting with daily life observations about technology, from wireless floor fans to Tesla's touchscreen interfaces to the state of autonomous vehicles in both the US and Korea. They then share their Chuseok vacation experiences, with Jun describing his MT-style trip to Gapyeong and Daniel reflecting on his trip to Seodaemun prison and museum. The conversation then shifts to significant news including the No Kings protests—massive nationwide demonstrations against Donald Trump's second presidential term in 2025—the controversial ban on Chinese chess at Tapgol Park in Seoul, the tragic incident involving Koreans in Cambodia, and the W Magazine Breast Cancer Awareness campaign controversy. The episode concludes with listener questions about Korean apartment uniformity and a spirited debate about nunchi, sparked by a question from a previous guest episode. If you're interested in understanding how Korean efficiency and collectivism shape everything from apartment design to consumer products, learning about the No Kings movement and its significance in American politics, exploring the concept of nunchi and indirect communication in Korean culture, or hearing about nonprofit youth programs bridging Korean and American communities, tune in to hear Daniel and Jun discuss all this and more!As a reminder, we record one episode a week in-person from Seoul, South Korea. A glowing bowling ball, a flash of light, and five girls land in the Sengoku era—what starts as a cozy sports setup turns into a time-twisting story about fate, loyalty, and what “winning” really means. We dive into Turkey: Time to Strike with open skepticism, genuine surprise, and a lot of laughs as a supposed bowling club anime morphs into a smart blend of sports drama and historical adventure.First, we unpack the core tension between Mai's “fun first” philosophy and Rena's no-compromise drive to win. That clash triggers a supernatural time slip that drops the team into bandit territory, where their cover as traveling performers protects the timeline—kind of. From there, we meet Suguri, the “boy” samurai who's actually a girl fitting into a role her clan demands be male, plus sisters Sumomo and Anzu, who carry the scars of past encounters with time travelers. The show leans into identity, trust, and consequence without losing its offbeat charm, even as violence flashes at the edges and the Washio clan's threat forces the girls to choose action over safety. And then the finale hits. The reveal that Sumomo falls through time, lives in the present as Haru, and adopts Mai spins the story into a clean time loop that upgrades the whole season. Suddenly the bowling alley they build in a feudal village isn't just a gag—it's a symbol of agency, of refusing “that's just history,” and of how play can be resistance when the stakes are human lives. We talk rewatch value, the jump in our ratings, and why this series stands out: not for nonstop action, but for inventive problem-solving, a female-led cast with real arcs, and a Sengoku setting that adds texture and urgency. If you crave something truly different—sports anime energy, time travel paradoxes, samurai-era tension, and a finale that makes you re-evaluate every scene—press play now. Send us a textA Halloween throwback with teeth: we revisit the moments that make HR feel haunted and explain how to handle them without losing your cool. We kick off with a real company memo that tied election outcomes to potential layoffs and unpack where employer speech ends and voter intimidation begins. The difference between context and coercion matters, so we walk through how to communicate policy risk without turning paystubs into campaign flyers or unraveling trust. From there, we shift to the customer side and the Expensify CEO's mass political email. Using a product mailing list to advocate a candidate is a masterclass in how to torch goodwill. We talk data stewardship, opt-in norms, and the reputational cost when brands push beyond the purpose of their channels. Then we lighten the mood with remote Halloween ideas that don't create HR nightmares, and we draw hard boundaries around costumes that cross into racism, sexual content, or glorified violence. A little guidance in advance can spare everyone a lot of pain later. We also roll up our sleeves for real management work: coaching a leader through their first termination when a remote contractor misses deadlines, hijacks meetings, and submits shaky timesheets. You'll hear the exact steps we use to document performance, run a clean meeting, and close the loop when someone “resigns” after being let go. And yes, we poke at HR's own monsters: job titles that confuse more than they clarify. Fun is fine, but titles should map to market norms so candidates, comp, and compliance stay on solid ground. If you enjoy candid HR insights, practical scripts, and a few spooky laughs, hit follow, leave a review on your favorite podcast app, and tell us your best workplace costume disaster or haunted-office prank. For the past year, Siphesihle Magagula has been going door-to-door selling solar power. He convinced nearly all of his neighbours to buy a basic solar kit, bringing lights to about 400 homes for the first time. His neighborhood, Nomzamo, never had electricity before — despite being close to South Africa's biggest coal mines and power stations. But some of his clients are disappointed. Their solar kits don't have enough power to run fridges or TVs. Nomzamo is just one example of South Africa's attempt at a transition away from coal but will it bring justice to the 1.6 million homes that aren't connected to the power grid?Show NotesAccess our free resources:To use our episodes on your radio show, refer to our toolkit. To host your own listening event, check out our guide. This episode is part of "Power to Change," a series of stories examining South Africa's transition from coal to renewable energy through the lives of young people living in coal communities. This week, Daniel and Jun sit down with Raychel McKelvy, a Black American teacher and aspiring actor who just moved to Korea from Chicago less than a month ago. Raychel shares her unique journey from living across multiple U.S. cities to taking a "midlife gap year" in Seoul to study Korean at Yonsei University's language institute. They discuss her incredibly diverse upbringing and friend group, spanning Japanese, Indian, Latino, and Korean American communities, and how those experiences shaped her worldview. The conversation explores the stark differences between being a minority in America versus being a "super minority" in Korea, navigating the challenges of staring and othering, and finding beauty in cultural differences. Raychel opens up about her language learning journey, the reality of living in a co-living space in Yeongdeungpo, and adjusting to Korean social norms around public transit etiquette, restaurant timing, and high-context communication. If you're interested in hearing a fresh perspective on moving to Korea, understanding the complexities of race and diversity across cultures, learning about the unexpected challenges and joys of language immersion, or gaining insights into how collectivism and individualism shape American versus Korean society, tune in to hear Daniel, Jun, and Raychel discuss all this and more. This episode offers an honest, thoughtful look at cultural adaptation, the privilege of diversity, and the courage it takes to completely upend your life for personal growth. As a reminder, we publish our episodes bi-weekly from Seoul, South Korea. We hope you enjoy listening to our conversation, and we're so excited to have you following us on this journey!Guest bio:Raychel is an American currently living in Korea and attending Korean language school. Send us a textWelcome to Jaded HR, where we say everything you're thinking out loud. This week, Warren and Cee Cee dive deep into the cesspool of professional absurdity. We tackle everything from the shocking politicization of HR to a debate so ill-conceived it smells like a dumpster fire. What We Raged About This Week:SHRM's $1,300 Blueprint to Hell: We try to stay apolitical, but SHRM is forcing our hand by hosting a debate between CNN's Van Jones and Heritage Foundation's Robby Starbuck, who calls DEI "communist" and a "poison." Is this an earnest discussion or just a desperate, badly timed publicity stunt? (We lean heavily toward the latter.)SHRM's Identity Crisis: Why does the world's largest HR organization keep acting like a political lobbying group instead of a resource for practitioners? Cee Cee even details the generic form letter she got after canceling her membership.Faith-Based Hypocrisy: Warren shares a schadenfreude story about a "true believer" business owner who lost a massive contract on day one, thanks to a well-deserved morality clause and a whole lot of cussing. We love to see it.The HR Rights of Passage: We create a cynical checklist of the things all true HR professionals must deal with, including the inevitable hygiene talk (and how the smell of vanilla body spray combined with old ashtray smoke can break a man). The Gen Z Stare & Mama's Helper: Is the new generation of job candidates okay? Cee Cee recounts a chilling, soul-empty experience with a grocery store worker, while Warren's daughter has to deal with applicants whose moms are sitting in on the interview. (Seriously, go practice your active shooter drills instead.)COVID-19 Wednesdays: We share a bonus story about an affinity group we are not going to start: the work-from-home Wednesday Orgy club. Don't worry, the drama was captured on a corporate laptop.Join us as we help you survive HR, one "what the f*ck" moment at a time.Support the showWe want to hear from you.Text us or leave a voicemail (252) 564-9899email: feedback@jadedhr.comWant to:* Share a dumb employee question* Share a crazy story* Ask us a question* Share a best practice * Give us feedback Our Link Tree below has links to our social media sites, Patreon, Apple podcasts, Spotify & more. Please leave a review on your favorite podcast player and interact with us online!Linktree - https://linktr.ee/jadedhrFollow Cee Cee on IG - BoozyHR @ https://www.instagram.com/boozy_hr/

This is a free preview of a paid episode. To hear more, visit www.serioustrouble.showWe know more this week about indictment of James Comey. Maybe the grand jury vote was weak, but an indictment is an indictment, right? Maybe not. We discuss how Comey's attorneys are likely to seek dismissal of the indictments. Meanwhile, we have some more detail on how the FBI came to be conducting a public corruption investigation into Tom Homan when he wasn't even a public official. That — plus a discussion of Jeanine Pirro's unusual use of a local grand jury to obtain a federal indictment in Washington D.C. — is this week's free show. For paid subscribers, we also discuss:* The Trump administration's novel use of the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances Act to sue pro-Palestinian activists who ended up in a brawl outside a New Jersey synagogue;* Judge William Young's righteously angry ruling holding that the Trump administration has violated immigrants' First Amendment rights by revoking their visas over their protest activity;* Google's high-dollar settlement of a case about YouTube that Donald Trump already lost, which will be used to finance the grand new ballroom at the White House;* Smartmatic's partial summary judgment win against Mike Lindell over his stolen election claims; and* Harvard's countersuit against former Harvard Business School professor Francesca Gino, whom they de-tenured over research fraud, most famously including a fraudulent paper about dishonesty.Sign up for our full-length episodes at serioustrouble.show
This week Jun and Daniel discuss the evolution of acquired tastes in food, turbulent political news from America, controversial tech updates, and a thought-provoking listener perspective on violence in Western vs. East Asian culture. Daniel shares his milestone of finally accepting sundae (Korean blood sausage) after years of trying, prompting a broader conversation about cilantro, kimchi, and how palates develop differently across cultures. The hosts then dive into heavy news topics including immigration enforcement affecting Korean nationals and the deeply polarizing assassination of Charlie Kirk. Jun analyzes recent tech updates from Apple's "liquid glass" iOS design to KakaoTalk's controversial Instagram-like interface changes, examining the concept of originality versus imitation. The episode concludes with a powerful listener message from Portugal about perceptions of violence in American society versus the emotional intimacy of East Asian media, sparking reflection on whether the global rise of K-content represents a cultural backlash against Western chaos. If you're interested in any of these questions, tune in to hear Daniel and Jun discuss all this and more!As a reminder, we publish our episodes bi-weekly from Seoul, South Korea. Send us a textEver wonder what secrets lurk in your coworkers' desk drawers? Our jaw-dropping opener explores a workplace nightmare when maintenance unlocks a former employee's desk to find multiple journals explicitly rating female colleagues' appearances. This disturbing discovery raises complex questions about hostile work environments, liability after employment ends, and the hidden behaviors that can poison workplace culture. The conversation shifts to the fascinating dual lives employees lead outside the office. We share a story about concert-going medical professionals in full goth makeup expertly handling an emergency, reminding us that our colleagues contain multitudes beyond their workplace personas. This juxtaposition of professional capability and personal expression highlights the rich diversity hidden beneath corporate exteriors. We dive deep into the ongoing return-to-office debate, examining a troubling new trend: companies offering buyouts to employees who refuse to return to physical workspaces. Is this short-sighted during a hiring crisis? We explore generational differences in work preferences, with Gen Z surprisingly pushing for more in-office time while millennials champion remote flexibility. The discussion reveals how career stage, rather than generation, might better explain these preferences - early-career employees crave mentorship while mid-career professionals prioritize work-life balance. The episode closes with thoughtful analysis of how hybrid policies often create unintentional favoritism, with high performers receiving more flexibility than others. When employees notice these double standards, trust erodes. Our candid, sometimes irreverent exploration of these workplace dynamics offers both entertainment and valuable insights for navigating today's complex professional landscape. What workplace mysteries have you uncovered?
