Bionic Skins: Working Towards the Perfect Fit We all want to feel our best, and live a life without pain, but at times it seems so out of reach for us amputees. Donning a prosthesis that is suppose to emulate a real leg gets the job done but, trust me, it is far from comfortable and often it becomes such a painful devise that amputees choose not to wear it for too long, even taking days off from wearing it, leaving them feeling incomplete and frustrated. Today I wanted to share with you an extraordinary company, created by Dr. Hugh Herr-bilateral below knee amputee, MIT professor and co-leader of the Yang Center for Bionics at MIT, Bionic Skins is changing the comfort game for the better. Lauren and Eric head up the Bionic Skins headquarters in Bedford, Mass. and graciously came on my podcast to share what Bionic Skins is, how it works, and the hopes and aspirations Hugh and his team have for building a better and more comfortable prosthesis for the amputee community. Eric is the "numbers guy", checking stats, running the biometrics of the patients and making sure the measurements taken are accurate... among other hats he wears for the company. Lauren is the prosthetist; working with the patients, creating the sockets, and making sure the fit is everything it should be for comfort and durability. As we sit down and talk you can see how bright the future is for amputees. The technology is getting better and the understanding of what is needed for improving the quality of life for amputees is increasing. More research is being done, and talking with amputees helps bridge the gap of what we currently have, what we struggles with, and what is still needed to live actively and without restrictions. Bionic Skins is doing just that. They are currently work with patients, and taking new patients, that are below knee amputees all the while continuing to research, build studies, and improve on the technology that they are producing in house and through MIT's Media Lab. Check out their website HERE You can also follow them on social Media platforms like Instagram and Facebook @bionicskins to stay up to date on their research and studies in which you may qualify to take part. Also, you can listen to my interview with Hugh Herr, himself, from this past April, on my podcast HERE Hugh and I discuss Bionic Skins toward the end of my interview where he discusses his design and how it was created. Thank you again, Lauren and Eric, for taking time out of your busy schedule to talk to us about the incredible work you're doing to improve our lives. You are amazing people! Keep doing what you're doing and I look forward to checking in with you again in the near future! I hope you've enjoyed, and found promise for a brighter future, listening to today's podcast. Please remember to like, share and SUBSCRIBE to my podcast and my YouTube channel so you don't miss an episode! Have an amazing week and as always, Be Healthy, Be Happy, Be YOU!!! Much love, Dr Hugh Herr-Founder of Bionic Skins and "Yours Truly' all set up for a gait study I did last year at MIT.
What if your mental health struggles had deeper, spiritual causes? Everyone knows how to handle their physical health — exercise and a balanced diet, for example. Modern healthcare also covers mental health, giving us more insights into how to safeguard our thoughts and emotions. But sometimes the roots of our health problems are neither physical nor mental. Things like occult influences, spiritual oppression and demonic strongholds unknowingly could bring spiritual health under attack. This could lead to demonization, depression, gender confusion and suicidal ideation. In this episode of the Revelations Podcast, we're joined by Dr. Natalie Atwell, a seasoned mental health practitioner and passionate advocate for integrating biblical truths into mental health care. With over 20 years of experience, Dr. Atwell shares her journey from overcoming personal challenges like childhood trauma and physical disabilities to becoming a voice in the mental health field. Her insights bridge the gap between mental and spiritual health, offering a unique perspective on how the spiritual and psychological realms intersect. This conversation is a must-listen for anyone grappling with mental health challenges, whether for themselves or their loved ones. It's especially valuable for Christian parents seeking to navigate the mental health landscape for their children. Here are three reasons why you should listen to this episode:Discover an in-depth understanding of the connection between mental and spiritual health and how our identity in Christ is so important to live as an image bearer of God.Learn how spiritual oppression by dark forces could lead to anxiety, sleep paralysis, suicidal ideation and dissociation.Hear Dr Atwell's opinion on how technology affects the mental health of our youth, particularly when it comes to anxiety and depression.Become Part of Our Mission! But thanks to medical technology, she was able to overcome it.[06:14] Natalie: “I went from not walking the first two years of my life to being able to complete a marathon. That's a miracle.”Concord Counseling, which is Dr. Atwell's practice, believes in integrating biblical teachings with mental health care.Part of her work involves developing tools and assessments to address both psychological and spiritual challenges to mental and spiritual health.[11:24] Rising Spiritual Warfare in Mental HealthPost-2020, Dr. Atwell noticed a sharp increase in spiritual oppression linked to mental health, particularly dissociation, sleep paralysis, and suicidal ideation.Dr. Atwell developed a test to identify occult influences that might be affecting her clients' mental and spiritual health.Discerning spiritual influences alongside psychological factors is a core part of Dr. Atwell's methodology.Dr. Atwell is concerned about the rise of occult practices, being used in therapy. She warns against non-Christian influences in mainstream mental health treatments.According to Dr. Atwell, non-Christian practices in mental health services could open the gateway to dark forces that seek to harm your spiritual health.[23:30] The Divine Council WorldviewThe Divine Council worldview lets you approach Scripture using a supernatural lens.According to this perspective, there is a council that rules over the universe. Conversely, the rebels are the Enemy and fallen angels. [25:20] Natalie: “Being human is special, and I don't know that we talk about it enough, but being an imager of God is so important, and it is our identity that we were called to represent him on earth and to have dominion.” Natalie believes all sexual perversions stem from fallen angels mating with human women.Demonic forces attack your identity and the concept of you as an image of God.[31:21] The Role of Parents in Spiritual ProtectionParents play a central role in protecting their children from dark powers. Dr. Atwell advises parents to harness the power of prayer. She also stresses the importance of teaching children about spiritual warfare and their identity in Christ.Parents should closely monitor their children's exposure to technology and social media. The power of scripture and the divine influences children's spiritual health.[35:45] Impact of Technology and Social Media on YouthDr. Atwell links rising anxiety, depression, and suicidal ideation in youth to social media use. Unmonitored technology tends to have a negative effect on children's mental health.Technology is often a gateway to exposure to dark spiritual influences, even unintentionally.Gender confusion is often a result of children having access to more sources of information and learning, giving them alternative perspectives.[47:56] The Importance of Ephesians 6 in Spiritual WarfareEphesians 6 discusses the armor of God, and as such is a central part of spiritual warfare. It has since become a central verse to Dr. Atwell's approach.Donning the armor of God can help people protect themselves from spiritual attacks and safeguards spiritual health.A critical element to remember about Ephesians 6 is the importance of fighting not against flesh, but against spiritual forces. The armor of God also includes tools like the helmet of salvation, shield of faith, and sword of the Spirit.[50:44] Deliverance and Mental Health TreatmentDr. Atwell has developed a treatment model based on biblical principles for spiritual deliverance. The model focuses on renouncing spiritual influences, confessing sins, and reclaiming identity in Christ.[51:17] Natalie: “I am a human, an imager of God, and that is my call and plan and purpose in life.”Dr. Atwell advocates for spiritual freedom through the power of the Holy Spirit and God's word.About NatalieDr. Natalie Atwell is a licensed mental health expert with over 20 years of experience, specializing in the intersection of mental health and spirituality. She is the owner and clinical director of a private counseling practice in Charlotte, North Carolina, where she leads a team of 20 professionals. Chapter 1What is Don QuixoteIn the heart of Spain, the faded grandeur of a bygone age lives on through the adventures of the noble yet delusional Don Quixote, masterfully penned by Miguel de Cervantes. Donning an ancient suit of armor, Quixote sets out as a self-proclaimed knight, driven by his chivalrous illusions and the romantic notion of righting wrongs and protecting the innocent. Alongside him rides Sancho Panza, his loyal squire, whose earthy wisdom and humorous skepticism ground the tale. At its core, "Don Quixote" is a profound exploration of reality versus illusion, truth against fiction, and how these forces shape our lives. Through a series of comedic yet poignant encounters, Cervantes crafts a rich tapestry of 16th-century Spain, inviting readers to question the boundaries of social order and the pursuit of honor. Enduringly relevant, Don Quixote's madcap adventures and resilient idealism celebrate the eternal struggle to maintain morality and hope in a compromising world.Chapter 2 Meet the Writer of Don QuixoteMiguel de Cervantes Saavedra skillfully utilized an array of writing techniques in "Don Quixote" to explore complex themes and emotions. His language style is characterized by irony, parody, and satire, effectively critiquing the chivalric traditions and the societal norms of his time. Cervantes employs a multiperspective narrative, enriching the text with varied viewpoints that engage readers and deepen the interpretive experience. His use of contrasting characters—such as the idealistic Don Quixote and the pragmatic Sancho Panza—highlights the tension between idealism and realism. This contrast is not only humorous but also poignant, illustrating the human struggle between noble aspirations and practical limitations.Dialogue plays a crucial role in conveying characters' emotions and personalities. Cervantes' mastery of dialogic forms adds depth to his characters and often serves to express complex ideas and emotional subtleties. The interplay of high-flown literary language with earthy vernacular speech enhances the novel's thematic exploration of illusion versus reality. In sum, Cervantes' writing in "Don Quixote" brilliantly combines narrative complexity, linguistic dexterity, and stylistic parody to explore the human condition, making profound observations on the nature of perception, personal reality, and the existential impact of literature itself.Chapter 3 Deeper Understanding of Don Quixote"Don Quixote," written by Miguel de Cervantes and first published in two parts in 1605 and 1615, is often regarded as one of the foundational texts of modern Western literature. Its impact and significance span several aspects of literature, culture, and broader societal thinking. Impact on Literature1. Birth of the Novel: "Don Quixote" is frequently cited as the first modern European novel. The narrative's structure—a deep, character-driven story interwoven with social commentary—established a new literary format that distinctly broke from the simpler plots and character developments typical of medieval romances. 2. Literary Realism and Metafiction: Cervantes is credited with pioneering literary realism and metafiction. By openly acknowledging its own fictionality and engaging the reader in dialogues about the nature of truth and fiction, "Don Quixote" laid the groundwork for subsequent literary techniques seen in the works of authors like Laurence Sterne, Gustave Flaubert, and even postmodern writers such as Thomas Pynchon.3. Character Complexity: The deep psychological development and humanization of characters in "Don Quixote" significantly influenced the depiction of characters in Western literature, moving away from idealized protagonists to more flawed, relatable individuals. Cultural Impact1. Quixotic Idealism: The character of Don Quixote

Send us a Text Message.Hi everybody and welcome to today's episode of Attendance Bias. I am your host, Brian Weinstein. Today's guest, Matt Hoffman, takes us back to an instant classic: December 2, 1997 at The Philadelphia Spectrum, the first night of a 2-night run that has since been released officially by Live Phish. The fall 1997 tour has been reviewed on this show before on Attendance Bias…and basically any other conversation about Phish, but today's discussion focuses more on the micro–this specific show, and Matt's experience seeing the band for the first time at a career peak. By this point of the tour, Phish was a well-oiled machine, and Philadelphia was as close to a hometown stop for Trey as the band would get at the time. Donning a Flyers jersey for the show, Trey and the band would offer up a setlist full of fan favorites, including a 7-song 2nd set, 5 of which appear on the Phish.net jamcharts.Meanwhile, there is a particular Philadelphia flavor to this conversation, as Matt grew up and still lives in the Philly area, so keep listening as we join Matt to talk about the Mann Music Center, cover bands, taking naps, and more as we discuss Phish's show from December 2, 1997 at The Spectrum.

Many decisions impacting the lives of Americans today adhere to a set of rules established over 200 years ago. The Constitution is in the news more than ever as politicians and Supreme Court justices battle over how literally it should be taken. Did the framers intend for Americans to follow their instructions as written for eternity? Or did they want to offer a set of guidelines that would evolve as time marched on? These are the questions today's guest, A.J. Jacobs, author of the Year of Living Constitutionally, set out to answer. For one year, he committed to living as the original originalist, expressing his constitutional rights using the tools, lifestyle and mindset of when they were written in 1787. He bore muskets. He wrote pamphlets with a goose quill by candlelight. He quartered soldiers. He tried to pay for goods and services with gold. He applied for a letter of marque from Congress, which would make him a legal pirate (a practice that the U.S. government sanctioned during the Revolutionary War). He gave his friends the same gift that George Washington did: a lock of his own hair. This year-long project was Jacobs' humble attempt to figure out how to interpret the Constitution and whether we can improve the American experiment.
Confirmed by multiple sources. Dark to Light, but it may not look the way you were expecting. UN NWO, Vatical One World Religion. Hidden weapons, WAR! Unmasking Conspiracies, Immigration Concerns and More Welcome to the enlightening discussion that begins with urban legends in music, transitioning into grave topics like immigration, political power structures, and significant forthcoming transformations in the United States. We analyze the potential repercussions of military-aged men entering the US and the vital part U.N. soldiers may play amidst likely civil unrest. The episode also dives into the probability of a new government, the introduction of smarter cities, and explores both the positive and negative implications of such alterations. Unveiling the enigmatic ‘Patriot Superhero' Ivan Raiklin, we discuss his journey to promulgate justice countered by possible backlash. Alongside, we scrutinize Congress's power and its substantial real-world effects. Additionally, the episode digs into Airbnb's new terms and conditions, hinting at some potential global situations in the near future. Donning a critical lens, we evaluate notable political figures, their murky affiliations, and their effects on our society. We intend to make people question the actions and intentions of those in power critically and inspire independent thought and exploration. Unseen Factions and Undisclosed Realities: Analyzing Power Systems and Deceptive Balances In this explosive episode, we expose hard to swallow truths about the world around us, pulling the covers off secret societies like the Bohemian Grove and notorious figures, including Jeffrey Epstein. The episode daringly questions the ethics of influential entities that schedule human atrocities while maintaining their 'innocence'. Advancing into deep, controversial waters, we call out the deceptions of the United States' government, illustrating how public support is manipulated for wars and massacres with ulterior motifs. Coupling our theories with General Wesley Clark's revelations, we reveal how committed attempts at regime changes in the Middle East favor a foreign country — Israel, instead of America. Future geopolitical shifts are speculated, such as an anticipated global adoption of digital ID systems by 2025, possibly further aggravated by migration crises. While the episode uncovers assaults against whistleblowers by powerful factions, it also criticizes the Catholic Church's doctrines that have been imposed on the public, operating as a wake-up call against progressively deceptive systems of power and faith. Decoding Symbolism and Understanding the Future: King Charles' Controversial Portrait and the 'Dark to Light' Theory This episode delves into the disconcerting symbolism found in King Charles' controversial portrait, analyzed from the 'dark to light' perspective. We also discuss speculation surrounding the health status of King Charles and Kate Middleton, attributing it to a 'magic potion'. The episode draws parallels between the prophecy in the Book of Daniel and modern governments, banking systems, and more. Navigating the theory that King Charles might represent the Antichrist, we discuss his potential revival and the concept of an 'ascended master.' We provide you with insights on an approaching spiritual confrontation, where choices may have to be made between the path of God or that of the 'magic potion.' Wrapping up the episode, we disclose some behind-the-scenes scenarios and look forward to our upcoming guest, Tim Cohen. The episode invites its audience on a journey, connecting the spiritual and physical worlds and promoting faith and goodwill. Prayerfully consider supporting Right on Radio. NEW! But would even a former soldier be able to cope with such a stressful job into his old age? It was all likely to be fine, just so long as his wife didn't find out what he was actually doing on his trips away...Guest host: Ollie Green Hosted on Acast. On this episode of the "House of Hockey" Podcast, Rae Rae is joined by hockey journalist Allan Kreda, diving deep into the latest NHL news, PWHL news and sharing candid opinions on the hottest topics in the hockey world. Breezy is on the podcast's IR. Allan Kreda is a long time writer who's covered the three major NHL teams in the greater New York area, New York Rangers, New York Islanders and the New Jersey Devils. He's spent almost two decades with the Associated Press. He's covered money and banking, the National Hockey League and the sports media business. First up, let's talk about the thrill of back-to-back games in the Stadium Series. It's a bold move, but what are the thoughts swirling around the league? Does the excitement of consecutive games add to the spectacle, or does it dilute the impact? And what about the decision to allow other games to be played simultaneously? How does that affect the overall experience for fans and players alike? But it's not all smooth skating in the Stadium Series. Merchandise availability, particularly concerning the NJ Devils is notable and Allan shares his perspective on what the NHL does well with these outdoor hockey festivals. Shifting gears to the on-ice action…Allan shares the general response from players and fans about outdoor games like the Stadium Series. Turning our attention to the New York hockey scene, how's the Coach Patrick Roy era treating the New York Islanders? And we review the current states of the Rangers, Devils, and Flyers. What's the pulse of each team, and what can we expect from them moving forward? In a heartwarming twist, the Rangers and Islanders recently shared the Stadium Series stage with local heroes: firefighters and policemen. Donning jerseys representing their respective departments, these players honored the brave men and women who serve their communities. Meanwhile, the Flyers and Devils brought some pop culture flair, dressing as Rocky and Tony Soprano, respectively. It's moments like these that remind us why hockey is more than just a game—it's a platform for unity and celebration. Looking ahead, Allan shares some fascinating anecdotes about rubbing elbows with hockey legends like Adam Graves and Rodrigue Gabriel Gilbert. Plus, he's co-authoring a memoir with Ken Morrow, a true hockey icon with multiple Stanley Cups and a spot on the 1980 USA Olympic Miracle on Ice team. With stories like these, it's clear that the spirit of hockey lives on both on and off the ice. Hi! Stephanie here. I am so glad you joined us today for a special dive (no pun intended!) into the experience and meaning of baptism. I want us to explore the parallel between the dyeing of fabric with a new color and our own transformation through baptism. Just as the fabric takes on a new identity and value, so do we as we embrace the added worth found in Christ. We become members of God's family, clothed in the righteousness of Christ, and equipped to live out our faith in the world. Consider the message behind baptism: As believers, we are called to don the colors of our favorite team - Team Jesus! Baptism represents our identification with Jesus Christ, His message of grace and salvation, and His cause to share the good news with the whole world. It's a public declaration of our faith and a symbol of our new identity in Christ. But what about Jesus' baptism? He had no need for purification or repentance, as He was without sin. So, why did He choose to be baptized? It marked the beginning of His earthly ministry and revealed His role as the chosen Son, marked by God's love and the delight of His life. I also want to invite you to ponder anew the importance of delighting in the glory of God and making Jesus the delight of our lives. Baptism serves as a reminder of God's deep joy and love for us, just as He declared Jesus to be the delight of His own being. Remember, as we proudly wear our brightly colored jerseys, let's continue to identify with Jesus, His message, and His cause. Let's live out our new identity and share the good news with the world. Together, we can make Jesus the delight of our lives, just as He is the delight of the Father. Have you ever wondered what it would be like to sit alongside Jesus and his initial audience? To experience the fresh spiritual flavors that the Messianic Jewish culture weaves into the four gospels? Well, that's exactly what we here aim to do through this original series, JESUS RABBI AND LORD. Stephanie invites you to dig deep into Scripture, unearthing raw diamonds that may need a little cleaning up, but will ultimately shine brightly. So get ready to embark on this enlightening and transformative journey with Gospel Spice. On this episode, Kelby and JDO talk a line of shit about Berserk volumes 27-30, Nazis on Substack, and Israel/Palestine. Full show notes: The importance of going to The Church of the Black Swordsman. Berserk is the Bible. In volume 27 we're back into the Guts stuff. Donning the Berserk armor. Having that dog in you. How do sociopaths see the world? The War of the Midland Kingdoms. The lack of good guys in a war. The metaness of Puck. Kelby searches for the word “abacus.” The Hellraiser pope monsters. How long is Casca gonna be…like that? The evolution of Lady Farnese. What is that weird elephant sea monster? The awesomeness of Isidro's nuts dropping. The Dr. Robotnik samurai. Writing a serialized book. Following threads that might not come to fruition. The realistic way that Berserk portrays heroes. Who is the hero of Berserk? Guts simmering down on the revenge. JDO's personal Berserk journey. The massive inappropriateness of Schierke/Guts. How old is Guts anyway? Starting Berserk all over again. How to properly pirate Berserk. Getting our paper up to purchase the whole Berserk hardcover set. Showing kids fucked up movies. Troll sex. CURRENT EVENTS: Nazis on Substack! Kelby lays out his position. JDO lays out his position. What does anti-vaxxer mean? The way that people condense vast groups of people into one group. What was Covid actually about? Hyper-online losers love to declare which platforms they're (not really) going to leave. The Agitator fanbase has the most heterodox views. Substack is just a dancehall. THINK FOR YOURSELF. Discovering Jim Goad in Barnes and Noble. Do your good deeds in the dark. The certainty of scientism. People are awful. JDO talks about how alone you are after you catch heat. The lack of grace when you smell blood in the water. JDO's eclipse moment. Israel/Palestine: what's the OUTCOME? Land acknowledgment is a cop-out. STAND ON BUSINESS. Baltimore community activist gets his houses burned down. No customer? No product. Living in the town you're raised in. The greatness of Baltimore. Tipping the Pringles can. Not giving a shit about what happens outside your own backyard. Shout out Tim Dillon. What is Texas culture? Which African country is the funniest? AGITATOR MANIFESTO! Be more like Guts. Stop paying attention to AI. Should you buy a CNC machine? What color should Spiderman's suit be? What's the value in being able to write a novel? Who remembers Y2K? The similarity to “support the troops” and “trust the science.” ChatGPT is going to be Google. What makes humans human? Create more with less filter. Creating a ripple effect with your readers. Wear your influences on your sleeve. Steal it, and make it your own. Fuck plot holes. How does the Berserker Armor work? Monster Energy Drink bringing a dog back to life. Jason Statham impaling a shark on a sharp piece of rebar. DRAMA? More of it. Just go for it. Takashi Miike's adaptation of the “Yakuza” video game (blue flame!). Yellowstone is dramatic as hell. The drama of House. Meth lab explosion! Mercy killing. Kelby gushes about Yellowstone for a while. Be CHEAP AND ON TIME. CHEAP AND ON TIME. We're busy. Being wary of “professionalism.” The huge L of JDo's seven-year-old Kickstarter. We're on time. Thank you for listening.
Saving Elephants | Millennials defending & expressing conservative values
In 2021, Saving Elephants host Josh Lewis joined three other veteran podcasters on a new podcast endeavor: Are We Right? Cal Davenport, Brooke Medina, and Calvin Moore, and Josh debated a wide range of topics from politics to religion to culture and invited the audience to weigh in on whether or not they're right. While the show was tragically short-lived, a number of excellent episodes were produced and this is a re-podcast of their Christmas episode to commemorate the holiday season: In the spirit of the season, Are We Right presents an epic Christmas-themed episode unmatched in festive gaiety since George Lucas' The Star Wars Holiday Special. Calvin recalls fond memories of the family going to the movies at Christmastime and waxes eloquent about the proper color of Christmas lights and ranking of Christmas films. Brooke attempts in vain to engage the group in a lively debate about the merits of singing Mariah Carey Christmas songs and ruminates about the religious implications of Christmas in a manner that would make a Southern Baptist shout “Amen!”. And Josh regales the audience with a banjo solo of Angels We Have Heard on High (no, really). Ralph welcomes award-winning foreign correspondent Stephen Kinzer to discuss America's bloody history of proxy wars. They'll also discuss the mainstream media's "shameful" coverage of the war in Ukraine, the warhawks on Capitol Hill, and the catastrophic trickle-down effects of American military meddling.Stephen Kinzer is an award-winning foreign correspondent who has covered more than 50 countries on five continents. Mr. Kinzer spent more than 20 years working for the New York Times, most of it as a foreign correspondent. After leaving the Times in 2005, Mr. Kinzer taught journalism, political science, and international relations at Northwestern University and Boston University. He is now a Senior Fellow at the Watson Institute for International and Public Affairs at Brown University and writes a world affairs column for The Boston Globe. We attacked Libya in complete violation of international law, but in accordance with the system that we have used as a substitute for international law. And that's what we call the “rules-based international order.” That's our alternative to international law. And the rules-based international order is great for us because we're the ones that make the rules. We decide everything. We decide who's making war, who's not making war, who's good, who's bad, who needs to be punished, who doesn't need to be punished. Under international law, we can't do that because countries are treated more equally. So I think this is the real way we have turned away from both international law and our own domestic law—we've said that they're all superseded by the rules-based international order, which is a nice way of saying everybody has to do what the United States decides.Stephen KinzerA mantra in Congress is “Israel has a right to defend itself.” But no one ever says in Congress “the Palestinians have a right to defend themselves,” and they take casualty counts anywhere from 40 to 100 times greater in terms of innocent civilians, killed or injured. The Iranians apparently have no right to defend themselves… What is this inverted sense that these countries that are legitimately threatened, that have been overthrown… What's this mindset in official Washington that nobody threatened by the US or Israel has a right to defend themselves?Ralph NaderIn Case You Haven't Heard with Francesco DeSantis1. On Monday, the Writers' Guild of America announced that they have reached an interim agreement with the studios. The proposed deal includes minimum writing room sizes, pay increases, a ban on writing by generative AI programs, and disclosures of streaming numbers with residuals to match, to name just a few of the top line wins for the union. The agreement still needs to be formally submitted to the Guild membership for ratification, but this marks the end of the second longest strike in the WGA's history.2. AP reports that earlier this week, President Biden joined the United Autoworkers on the picket line. This is the first time ever a sitting president has joined a picket line. “Donning a union ballcap and exchanging fist bumps, Biden told United Auto Workers strikers that ‘you deserve the significant raise you need'” and urged the workers to “stick with it.” Biden made this move in part because former President Donald Trump also addressed autoworkers in a speech this week, though he did so at a non-union plant away from the picket line. UAW president Shawn Fain deemed Trump's address to non-union workers “pathetic irony,” per FOX 2 Detroit.3. Senator Bob Menendez of New Jersey is facing a mammoth corruption scandal involving fraudulent halal meat from Egypt and $100,000 worth of gold bars. Per the BBC, Menendez has been forced to resign his chairmanship of the powerful Senate Foreign Relations Committee. Yet, the powerful New Jersey Senator has not resigned his seat, even as a growing chorus of top Democrats have called on him to do so – including New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy, New Jersey Senator Cory Booker, Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman, Nancy Pelosi, Bernie Sanders, and many more. One possible upside to all of this is that Menendez's departure from his post on the Foreign Relations Committee could pave the way for a more rational American policy towards Cuba.4. In more Cuba news, NBC reports that on September 24th, the Cuban embassy in Washington was attacked. The assailant hurled two molotov cocktails at the diplomatic mission; fortunately, the diplomatic staff were unharmed. No arrests have been made. This follows a 2020 attack, when a man shot “nearly three dozen rounds” at the embassy from an AK-47.5. CNN reports that the FTC and the attorneys general of 17 states have filed a lawsuit against Amazon, alleging that “Amazon unfairly promotes its own platform and services at the expense of third-party sellers who rely on the company's e-commerce marketplace for distribution.” Specific examples of the e-commerce giant's anticompetitive practices include “requiring sellers on its platform to purchase Amazon's in-house logistics services in order to secure the best seller benefits, [and forcing] sellers to list their products on Amazon at the lowest prices anywhere on the web, instead of allowing sellers to offer their products at competing marketplaces for a lower price.” Hopefully, this reinvigorated consumer protection regime will serve as a deterrent to other would-be corporate criminals.6. Kyodo News reports Okinawa Governor Denny Tamaki recently addressed the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva, and used the opportunity to rail against the proposed US military base in the Japanese-controlled territory. Tamaki noted that the base “was clearly opposed by Okinawan voters in a democratically held referendum" and that the installation of the base would threaten regional peace. Okinawa already hosts most of the American military presence in Japan.7. Variety reports that Anil Kapoor, an A-list actor in India, has won his legal battle against AI. The court “granted an order…acknowledging [Kapoor's] personality rights and restraining all offenders from misusing his personality attributes without his permission in any manner…across all modes and media worldwide.” Kapoor also noted that “My intention is not to interfere with anyone's freedom of expression or to penalize anyone. My intent was to seek protection of my personality rights and prevent any misuse for commercial gains, particularly in the current scenario with rapid changes in technology and tools like artificial intelligence.”8. Finally, the Orchard reports that On September 22nd, Ukrainian President Zelenskyy addressed the Canadian House of Commons. In attendance was Yaroslav Hunka, a 98 year-old veteran who, according to the CBC “fought for Ukrainian independence against the Russians during the Second World War.” Students of history quickly put two and two together, deducing that this “veteran” was in fact a soldier in the 14th Grenadier Division of the Waffen SS, otherwise known as the Galician Division. Prime Minister Trudeau also held a private audience with this Nazi. Uproar in Canada proved so great that the Speaker of the Canadian House of Commons, Anthony Rota, was forced to resign, per the CBC. Furthermore, Polish officials have now formally requested that Hunka be extradited to Poland to face charges for atrocities committed by the Galician SS Division during WWII. This week on Flightless Bird, David Farrier goes behind the scenes of the food that's dished up to 30 million American kids at the school cafeteria.
