Richard received a degree in biomedical engineering from Louisiana Tech University and interned at the VA Medical Center in Alexandria, Louisiana. He co-founded the nonprofit organization, Sports Society for American Health, which hosts sporting events for education and health especially for children. Actively involved in community service throughout his life, Richard continues to receive attention not only for his literary talent, but also for his contributions to the local community and beyond. For instance, he was awarded the Key to the city of Beaumont, the Rotary Club’s Service above Self Award, the Coca-Cola Scholarship Foundation Award, and the Beaumont Hometown Hero Award for three consecutive years (2001 - 2003). In 2004, he received the National Catholic School Education (NSCE) Distinguished Graduate Award as the St. Anne's Catholic School Alumni of the Year. In December 2001, Richard represented the United States in carrying the Olympic Torch for the 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Olympics. True to his character, Richard views the children’s novel as an opportunity to give to the community in thanks for all he has received. He wishes to personally thank educators for the guidance and devotion they provide for all youth, the earth’s future. Recalling how tedious, intimidating and boring traditional textbook based education can be, Richard set out to show science, and for that matter all education, can be taught against a backdrop of adventure. The adventures cast science in a thrilling and suspenseful light through the fictional (but scientifically sound) personification of the elements.

Consider this week a warmup for next week when we get the entire band back together, but in episode 13 I am joined by Bob Evans from the Cleveland Sports Zone podcast and ClevelandSportsZone.Com. This week we spend an hour talking about the Browns and everyone in Cleveland's favorite topic - the NFL draft. Bob really wanted to stay focused on defensive needs, I kept derailing that focus, it is what I do.
In episode two of Sports, Society and Spirits T.J. and Scott discuss the Ohio State Buckeyes' playoff chances including a breakdown of The Game upcoming against that unmentionable school up north Saturday. Episode two also touches on the abomination that is the Cleveland Browns as well as touching on the election of Donald Trump and what this does and does not say about the state of America's society. Scott may or may not rant on Hadrian's Wall for just a few minutes longer than he should, blame T.J. for comparing America to Rome. ***There are some audio issues in the back part of this recording that I was unable to eliminate with editing. I am uncertain what is causing this and hope to have this resolved before any more podcast streams are recorded. My apologies, it will be resolved as soon as I isolate the cause. ***
This week TJ and Scott discussed the Indians World Series run, predictions for the upcoming Cavs season, should the Browns trade Haden and Thomas if they can and the potential impact of a Trump or Clinton victory on November 9th.
