Slam The Gavel podcast welcomes back Julie M. Anderson Holburn. Julie was last on Season 6, Episode 319 and February 6th, 2023. Today we discussed how family court is treated like a "Kangaroo Court," and makes it appear to be "an excuse," for its BAD BEHAVIOR. We talked about several cases, one of them being the Taran Nolan case in Orange County, CA and how that was mishandled.     The judiciary has gone rogue long enough, and this has been an ongoing problem nationwide, destroying parental bonds with their children by judges with little to no education in psychology or child psychological abuze. Up for discussion was the changes happening in Idaho and Arizona.    We also discussed the article written by Greg Larose on 12-10-2025, "Lawmakers Fear DCFS Reorganization Could Cost Louisiana Experienced Child Welfare Workers," and how this could be a good thing. To Reach Julie M. Holiday Meltdowns: Bad Behavior or Sensory Overload? (Vagus Nerve Secrets) | Ep. 351 Is your child "acting out" and ruining the holiday magic, or are they actually in a state of biological shock? In Episode 351 of the Prime Podcast, Dr. Skip and Dr. Julie Wies tackle the skyrocketing rates of childhood anxiety and stress during the holiday season. Parents often mistake sensory overload for bad behavior. We dive deep into the science of the Vagus Nerve (which is 80% sensory!) and explain why loud relatives, bright lights, and sugary treats can cause a child's nervous system to shut down. Learn why handing an overwhelmed kid an iPad might be the worst thing you can do, and discover practical strategies like "Front-Loading" and "The Fort Method" to help your family survive the holidays without the screaming matches. In This Episode, You Will Learn: The "Bad Behavior" Myth: Why tantrums at parties are often signs of a dysregulated nervous system, not disobedience. Vagus Nerve 101: Understanding why your child's brain gets "energy vampired" by loud crowds. The "Front-Loading" Technique: How to stop anxiety before you leave the house by using photos and clear expectations. The Screen Trap: Why blue light and fast-paced games make meltdowns worse (and what to do instead). Old School Solutions: Why puzzles, blocks, and "heavy work" regulate a child's brain better than any gadget. The "No Agenda" Day: The most valuable gift you can give your family to reset cortisol levels. Timestamps: 00:00 - Intro: Why holiday stress is hitting kids harder than ever 01:30 - Is there a chiropractor for "de-stressing"? Every veterinary team has faced it: a client gets angry, raises their voice, and everyone wonders whether or not we should fire them. In this week's episode of The Veterinary Viewfinder, Dr. Ernie Ward and Beckie Mossor, MPA, RVT, unpack one of the most difficult decisions veterinary professionals face: when to dismiss a client and when to repair the relationship. Using a real-life scenario, our hosts explore a situation where a client waited over an hour, understandably became upset, and complained, but didn't threaten or use abusive language. When the client voiced their frustration, the team's immediate response was, “Let's fire them.” Dr. Ward and Beckie discuss why this reaction is becoming more common post-COVID and how practices can avoid over-firing by improving communication, scheduling systems, and team resilience. Listeners will learn practical strategies like: * Distinguishing understandable frustration vs. true abuse. * Using empathy-driven scripts to de-escalate tense situations. * Scheduling tactics, including reserving 10–25% of slots for urgent care. * Coaching CSRs to handle conflict without escalating to dismissal. If your team has ever debated whether to fire a client after a bad interaction, this episode offers a thoughtful framework for protecting your staff, your clinic's reputation, and the client relationships that matter most. #VeterinaryPodcast #VetMed #VeterinaryProfession #VetTechLife #VetClinicLife #VeterinaryMedicine #VeterinaryCommunity #ClinicCulture #VeterinaryLeadership #TeamCommunication #PracticeManagement #ClientCommunication #VetTeamwork

Would you agree that the level of behavior on the fields and in the stands is getting somewhat less than civil? With Jesus as the Lord of all of life, what difference should our faith make for how we play and watch sports? And, how can we effectively teach our kids about integrating their faith into their engagements with sports? That's what we're addressing on this episode of Youth Culture Matters.

They also touch on the importance of choosing a quality cruise line to avoid such incidents, and share various listener anecdotes about their own experiences, both good and bad, on cruises. The conversation also takes a political turn, connecting the brawl to broader themes of crime, safety, and the "woke" culture in America, and discusses how a new Trump administration policy is cracking down on criminal immigrants, leading to a drop in violent crime in Washington D.C.

Feel like the more you try to fix your dog's behavior, the worse it gets?If you're dealing with barking, leash pulling, jumping, or flat-out ignoring commands, the problem might not be your dog: it might be what you're accidentally reinforcing without realizing it.In this episode, I'm joined by professional dog trainer and behavior consultant Bradley Phifer, CBCC-KA, CPDT-KSA, Executive Director, CCPDT to unpack the everyday mistakes that teach dogs to keep misbehaving, even when you're trying your best to stop it.BY THE TIME YOU FINISH LISTENING, YOU'LL FIND OUT: • How unintentional habits like acting excited when you get home, high-pitched baby talk,  or ignoring jumping up periodically can reinforce bad behavior • Why “management” isn't a shortcut, it's a critical part of lasting training • What to do when your dog's behavior is taking over your life (and how to get it back) If your dog's behavior is going from frustrating to unmanageable, and nothing you've tried is working, this episode will show you where things are breaking down and how to shift the pattern starting today.CONNECT WITH BRADLEY PHIFER WEBSITE | https://bradleyphifer.com/OTHER LINKS MENTIONED IN THIS EPISODE: Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers: https://www.ccpdt.org/Send us a textLove the show? Send us a textWhat if there's no such thing as a bad kid? What if challenging behaviors are simply messages children send when they lack the emotional vocabulary to express themselves? Licensed Professional Counselor Jillian takes us behind the scenes of a  behavior modification camp founded in the 1960s that continues to transform lives today. Drawing from five summers working at this unique program and her family background of psychologists, Jillian breaks down the evidence-based techniques that help children thrive through connection rather than control. We explore the power of token economies where children earn points for positively-framed behavioral goals—points that, crucially, can never be taken away. Learn why traditional punishments like timeouts and taking away privileges often backfire, while strategic ignoring paired with enthusiastic positive reinforcement builds intrinsic motivation. Jillian shares practical examples from both camp and home settings, including a touching story about decoding her three-year-old's resistance to school after a frightening fire drill. The conversation reveals how shifting our language from "don't do this" to "here's what you can do" fundamentally changes our relationships with children. We discuss how teachers and parents can implement these techniques to create environments where kids feel understood, validated, and set up for success. Most importantly, we discover that sustainable behavior change happens when children feel seen, heard, and loved—even during their most challenging moments.Ready to see behavior as communication and transform your approach to the children in your life? This episode offers practical wisdom for anyone who believes in a child's inherent goodness and wants to build connections that last a lifetime. This podcast is meant to be a resource for the general public, as well as fellow therapists/psychologists. Children's behaviors are often viewed through a lens of judgment—disobedient, defiant, or disrespectful—leading to quick conclusions and punishments. However, this perspective doesn't tell the whole story. More often than not, these behaviors are signs of deeper emotional or neurological struggles, not intentional misbehavior. By reframing how we view behavior, we open the door to greater connection and understanding with our children. Let's explore why we need to rethink "bad behavior" and how understanding its roots can transform how we respond, creating opportunities for healing, growth, and deeper emotional connections. Not sure where to start?
