WOMEN SIPPING ON LIFE (with doctor shannon) | Stop Drowning | Start Sipping | Daily Inspiration | Hope | Certainty | Abundanc

In today's episode, Dr. Shannon teaches you the secret to finishing what you start. WARNING: This one's going to require some deeper thinking. Is it possible that the reason you haven't finished what you started is because you haven't finished your START? Today I'm going to teach you the secret to finishing what you start. What does it mean to you to “finish your START?” It means you'll become a starter AND a finisher. For some it may be easier to start, while for others it may be easier to finish. However, I think most people find themselves feeing stuck in the “I don’t know where to start” category. Start something. This has always been easy for me…but I’ve had to learn the hard way that starting simply for the sake of STARTING or running with an idea doesn’t always work real well. Perhaps you’re like me and you find it way easier to start, but… Is this working for you? For me, I got to a point in my life where I had to finally admit that STARTING wasn’t always the answer…and it simply wasn’t working. Starting without finishing will wear you out. Where’s your finish line? Done gets paid. If you don’t finish it, there’s a lack or loss of value. When you exchange that value for something of value you keep the circle of life going…the circle of value growing. If you start, but don’t finish, you won’t get results. Ideas start things. BUT… An idea doesn’t FINISH it. Inspiration will take you a long way, no doubt, and staying tapped into the true power of the inspiration will help you finish as well. HOWEVER, how about finishing your START? Is it possible that one of the reasons you haven’t finished something is because you…haven’t started? AND/OR… You haven’t fully finished your START? What do I mean by this? To start or finish anything you must START AND FINISH your START. How? You must... 1. SHOW UP. Are you showing up? How are you showing up? When you show up are you fully AVAILABLE? Are you showing your TRUE SELF…genuinely and authentically? 2. Be ALL IN. To FINISH your start you must be ALL IN to the START. A lot of times, we’re not ALL IN from the very start. We tiptoe, or walk around it – at times sticking our toe in — but we’re never fully diving in. The truth is, you don’t have to dive in, but you MUST get fully into the pool. Step into it, and begin. You must begin to WALK. As the water gets deeper, in no time you’ll be floating and flowing. And eventually you’re going to need to swim…or you’ll drown. FINISHING YOUR START means you’re ALL IN, and you're SWIMMING.  3. Go ALL OUT. Fully swim and flow in the deep end of the pool. Be ALL OUT…FULL OUT…so eventually so you can finish up your SHOW UP. FINISH UP YOUR START UP. Then take it to the next level. A lot of times we think about the END result, and think it’s so many miles down the road that we can’t even see the finish line, so we don’t start. If this is YOU today, START. Then finish what you start by FINISHING YOUR START. Focus on simply starting and fully finishing your start. FIRST. Start and get fully into the deep end, and immersed in your START. Remembering that in order to get to the ultimate finish line that's ahead, it’s going to require several finishes.  You must have several FINISHES before you get to the ultimate finish line. The end of our lives is the ultimate finish line…and the beginning of a new to START. It's another ALL IN moment. The first finish is FINISHING YOUR START. Are you willing to be ALL IN to the start AND to go to the next FINISH? And so on… If you only partially START, by NOT finishing your start, you’ll keep starting...starting...starting and never finish because you haven’t first FINISHED YOUR START. (Got it?) The key to your finish is FULLY STARTING…finish your start, my dear! If you don’t fully finish your START, you’ll never finish your FINISH. Starting and finishing coincide. Finish your START so you’re able to start your FINISH. Then you can FINISH WHAT YOU START. And begin something new to START AGAIN... This may be YOU today. If you feel as though you need to start over or start again, it’s OKAY. Step in so you can go ALL IN. Then you can FINISH YOUR START. Please grab your SACRED S.O.L. D.A.T.E. JOURNAL (Daily Action To Engage with yourself.) TODAY’S SACRED S.O.L. STEP: What’s the ONE thing you’ve been meaning to start, but haven’t OR you’ve started something and haven’t finished? My guest today is Tamara Pincus, who is an AASECT certified sex therapist, an advocate for BDSM and polyamory, and an overall celebrator of the diverse BDSM community. In this episode, she breaks down the fundamentals of BDSM, gives advice on how to start and practice safely, as well as talks about trauma and dissociation and other important topics. As she reminds us, BDSM is really common, so if you’re just getting started, curious, indifferent, or have been practicing for many years, this episode is for you. Enjoy! What is BDSM? Tamara says that the four letters stand for bondage, dominance, sadism, and masochism. This essentially means tying your partner up, having power over another, sometimes utilizing pain, and things of that nature. She says that a lot of typical intercourse can be seen as versions of BDSM, given that there is usually a power dynamic at play. This can be considered an offshoot of BDSM – meaning that intercourse can be seen as a continuum of sorts on the BDSM spectrum. She says that role-play can also fall within the same category. For more on her BDSM ideas, listen in! BDSM for Healing from Trauma Tamara says that BDSM can actually lead to breakthroughs in sexual trauma. Someone who has experienced a specific kind of sexual trauma can claim and have mastery over their trauma through a BDSM act. Tamara says that healing can occur if the trauma victim feels better emotionally or experiences positive feelings afterward. When asked how sexual partners can engage in BDSM in a safe, non-intimidating way, she says that it’s important to have a safe word or safe signal, as well as make sure there is agreed-upon consent between all participants. She also makes the good point that couples should get kink training and be cognizant about health conditions before doing rope play or breath play, and various other activities of the same category. To find a local dungeon or similar setting where you can learn these techniques, Tamara says to make sure you check out https://fetlife.com/. The “Top” and “Bottom” Dynamic Tamara says there’s generally two distinct dynamics at play during any BDSM proceeding: the bottom and the top. The top is the dominant player, while the bottom is the receiver. There can be a flexible interplay of differing power dynamics as the top can also function as the bottom at the same time. Tamara makes it a point to remind listeners that the top needs to be completely aware of the wellbeing of the bottom given that dissociation can happen. After all, a lot of the draw of BDSM comes from the fantastical aspects of the act, so altered mental states are common. Legitimate BDSM Versus The “Fifty Shades” Version Tamara says that one of the biggest mistakes of Fifty Shades of Gray is that it doesn’t understand the concept of non-concordance. This basically means that just because something turns you on physically doesn’t mean you’re emotionally turned on as well. Basically, your body is not lining up with your mind in this instance. How to Start & What to do if a Partner Isn’t Into BDSM She suggests a few books that you can find below in the “key links” section, as well as the aforementioned FetLife community. She suggests being careful, using the right equipment, make sure you have ways of getting out of any equipment, and having open conversations about boundaries and consent with your partner. For those who have partners who are not into BDSM, she says that you need to have frank conversations about likes and desires. She says that you can try and fight your sexuality, but it might be a losing battle. It’s best to explore options with your partner and see if there are compromises that can be made. D.A.T.E. “To achieve something you have never achieved before you must become someone you have never been.” – Les Brown   We’re all faced with trying to figure out what we need to do to become more effective at what we do. Many times we protect ourselves with habits and routines that are comfortable, but I want you to challenge yourself to work towards the person you need to become to be the leader you want to be.   Ask yourself these questions: •What new habits, disciplines, or behaviors do I need to START? •What good habits, disciplines, or behaviors do I need to DO MORE OF? •What poor habits or behaviors do I need to STOP?   Then join us at 10am CST this Friday, April 6th for the Fundraising Freedom Fellowship call as we talk through the habits you need to get rid of and the 3 habits to add to your life. WOMEN SIPPING ON LIFE (with doctor shannon) | Stop Drowning | Start Sipping | Daily Inspiration | Hope | Certainty | Abundanc

Her job as an expert is to demystify it. Personal branding boils down to how you want to be seen and making yourself memorable. Katie made a concerted effort back in the day, during the genesis of social media, and built a personal brand early on. Katie really fine-tuned her personal branding efforts when she started building a family and needed flexibility. Now, Katie has people that reach out to her no matter where she is in currently working, because of her personal brand. People hate the word competition, but we always compete for jobs, to get ahead. Personal branding defines your story, gives you credibility. It’s all about learning the ins and outs of amplifying the authentic you. Where to Start What do you want others to think of when they hear or see your name? What are you known for among your friends and family? What do you get complimented on the most? What three words would your friends or family use when talking about you? Structure things when you’re doing this and actually visualize the steps. Craft a short mission statement, expand to be your pitch. Elevator Pitch 1. Who are you? 2. What do you do? 3. What do you want, and where are you going with that?
