The episode concludes with a message of encouragement and a reminder that growth begins with the decision to restart.TakeawaysTaking a break does not mean you failed; it means you're human.Life can call us in different directions, and that's okay.Perfectionism can hinder progress; it's better to start imperfectly. You have permission to begin again, no matter how long it's been.Forgive yourself for the pauses in your journey.Small actions today can lead to significant progress tomorrow.Discipline is more important than motivation for consistency.Momentum builds when you take action, not when you overthink. It's essential to celebrate small victories in your journey. The marathon of life continues, and so should your efforts. "In Skydiggers, I can really be myself...there's a lot of trust" — Aaron ComeauGuitarist Aaron Comeau can't really pinpoint a time when he was officially in the band, but one day he got up to guest at the annual Christmas show, and—as he puts it—he "never left the stage". A multi-instrumentalist, singer/songwriter and producer in his own right, Comeau comes by his musical talents honestly: his mother is a piano teacher and taught him how to play from an early age, and his grandfather played clarinet and violin. Aaron's natural curiosity and musical inclination has guided him towards a life of creativity, collaboration, and the satisfaction of making music with amazing people. His keen sense of what's needed in a song, and how best to "fit in" to the music, has made him an indispensable part of the Skydiggers' sound for the better part of 10 years. We're rebroadcasting another episode from the Resources Radio archive while the team is on a break through the rest of December. This week's episode is a throwback to the final installment of a three-part series that celebrated the 70th anniversary of Resources for the Future (RFF), back in 2022. We'll return with new episodes in the new year; in the meantime, enjoy this one and poke around the archive at Resources.org for more topics you might be interested in. In this week's episode rerun, host Daniel Raimi looks toward the future of RFF, as seen through the eyes of the organization's talented and dedicated research analysts and associates. RFF's research analysts gather and analyze data, review published studies, help write papers and reports, and do it all with dedication and enthusiasm. They're an essential part of the organization's research. In this episode, Raimi talks with RFF Research Analysts Emily Joiner, Sophie Pesek, Nicholas Roy, and Steven Witkin, along with Senior Research Associate and Geographic Information Systems Coordinator Alexandra Thompson. While these young scholars share how they first got interested in environmental economics, they mostly focus on the future by lending insights about the topics they think RFF scholars will be working on in 20 or 30 years—and what role they see for themselves in that future. In America today, reports show that food insecurity is a pressing issue for over 35 million people. With rising grocery prices, inflation, and the lasting impacts of the pandemic—understanding the complexities of hunger has never been more imperative. Mariana Chilton explores this issue in the book, The Painful Truth about Hunger in America: Why We Must Unlearn Everything We Think We Know—and Start Again with some new insights and perspectives. Mariana Chilton is an author, professor, and founder of the Drexel University — Center for Hunger-Free Communities. In The Painful Truth About Hunger in America, Chilton takes a radical and urgent new approach to addressing hunger and poverty in the US. Where traditionally researchers, policymakers, and advocates have approached providing food through donations or non-profit organizations, Chilton focuses on the fundamental structures which she asserts have a keen interest in maintaining food stratification. Chilton suggests that the solution to food insecurity lies beyond providing food itself and will have to take both a political and spiritual approach in fixing this crisis. Drawing on 25 years of research, programming, and advocacy efforts, Chilton argues that food insecurity is created and maintained by those in power. To demonstrate her point, Chilton calls back to the original wounds suffered in this country — through a history of colonization, genocide, and enslavement. Drawing on intimate interviews she has conducted with many Black and Brown women, Chilton sheds light on the experience of hunger as linked with trauma and gender-based violence, violence with the natural world, and with ourselves. The Painful Truth about Hunger in America not only reinvigorates our commitment to uprooting the causes of poverty and discrimination but also points to a more generative and humane world where everyone can be nourished. Mariana Chilton, PhD, MPH, is a Professor at Drexel University's Dornsife School of Public Health and Director of the Center for Hunger-Free Communities, a research and advocacy center focused on addressing hunger and economic insecurity. She founded Witnesses to Hunger, a movement amplifying women's voices in the fight against poverty, and leads the Building Wealth and Health Network, which promotes entrepreneurship in the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families program. Her work on food insecurity, trauma, and human rights has influenced national policies, and she has advised Congress, Sesame Street, and the Institute of Medicine. Dr. Chilton's research has been featured in major media outlets, including The Washington Post and CBS News. Formed in 2018, ‘glock-rock' stalwarts Lakes have turned plenty of heads since emerging from the depths of Watford's DIY. The band are settling into 2023 with their sights set on a metamorphosis, driven by a desire to forge themselves into something bigger and brighter than ever before. Step forth new album Elysian Skies. Recorded with Tom Peters at Trapdoor Studios in Liverpool, Lakes took to the studio to make their sound enormous, leaning into their penchant for positivity, charm and twinkling catharsis all while wrapping their themes in echoing guitar effects and soaring vocal harmonies. Where their last album Start Again saw Lakes take their darkest moments and come out of the other side, Elysian Skies is an evolution of that woe and emerging into a realm that is full of colour, brightness and hope. It's the band forging their own path and signalling a new phase in 2023, not quite the re-birth of their previous record, but a phase that contains the very essence of what the band have grown into — and what they do best. Thanks for listening!!! Learning without reflection is a waste but reflection without learning is dangerous. Reflection is looking back so that the view looking forward is even clearer. We must take the time to get a clearer vision for our lives. Life is only a reflection of what we allow ourselves to see. So take the time to reflect on your life and make the necessary adjustments to move your life forward.
British soul artist Jake Isaac opens up about his musical influences, the meaning behind his self-written, produced and performed single, Start Again (taken from new album For When It Hurts), and explains why he's proud of where he's made it to in the music industry.
In today's episode, Dr. Shannon teaches you the secret to finishing what you start. WARNING: This one's going to require some deeper thinking. Is it possible that the reason you haven't finished what you started is because you haven't finished your START? Today I'm going to teach you the secret to finishing what you start. What does it mean to you to “finish your START?” It means you'll become a starter AND a finisher. For some it may be easier to start, while for others it may be easier to finish. However, I think most people find themselves feeing stuck in the “I don't know where to start” category. Start something. This has always been easy for me…but I've had to learn the hard way that starting simply for the sake of STARTING or running with an idea doesn't always work real well. Perhaps you're like me and you find it way easier to start, but… Is this working for you? For me, I got to a point in my life where I had to finally admit that STARTING wasn't always the answer…and it simply wasn't working. Starting without finishing will wear you out. Where's your finish line? Done gets paid. If you don't finish it, there's a lack or loss of value. When you exchange that value for something of value you keep the circle of life going…the circle of value growing. If you start, but don't finish, you won't get results. Ideas start things. BUT… An idea doesn't FINISH it. Inspiration will take you a long way, no doubt, and staying tapped into the true power of the inspiration will help you finish as well. HOWEVER, how about finishing your START? Is it possible that one of the reasons you haven't finished something is because you…haven't started? AND/OR… You haven't fully finished your START? What do I mean by this? To start or finish anything you must START AND FINISH your START. How? You must... 1. SHOW UP. Are you showing up? How are you showing up? When you show up are you fully AVAILABLE? Are you showing your TRUE SELF…genuinely and authentically? 2. Be ALL IN. To FINISH your start you must be ALL IN to the START. A lot of times, we're not ALL IN from the very start. We tiptoe, or walk around it – at times sticking our toe in — but we're never fully diving in. The truth is, you don't have to dive in, but you MUST get fully into the pool. Step into it, and begin. You must begin to WALK. As the water gets deeper, in no time you'll be floating and flowing. And eventually you're going to need to swim…or you'll drown. FINISHING YOUR START means you're ALL IN, and you're SWIMMING. 3. Go ALL OUT. Fully swim and flow in the deep end of the pool. Be ALL OUT…FULL OUT…so eventually so you can finish up your SHOW UP. FINISH UP YOUR START UP. Then take it to the next level. A lot of times we think about the END result, and think it's so many miles down the road that we can't even see the finish line, so we don't start. If this is YOU today, START. Then finish what you start by FINISHING YOUR START. Focus on simply starting and fully finishing your start. FIRST. Start and get fully into the deep end, and immersed in your START. Remembering that in order to get to the ultimate finish line that's ahead, it's going to require several finishes. You must have several FINISHES before you get to the ultimate finish line. The end of our lives is the ultimate finish line…and the beginning of a new to START. It's another ALL IN moment. The first finish is FINISHING YOUR START. Are you willing to be ALL IN to the start AND to go to the next FINISH? And so on… If you only partially START, by NOT finishing your start, you'll keep starting...starting...starting and never finish because you haven't first FINISHED YOUR START. (Got it?) The key to your finish is FULLY STARTING…finish your start, my dear! If you don't fully finish your START, you'll never finish your FINISH. Starting and finishing coincide. Finish your START so you're able to start your FINISH. Then you can FINISH WHAT YOU START. And begin something new to START AGAIN... This may be YOU today. If you feel as though you need to start over or start again, it's OKAY. Step in so you can go ALL IN. Then you can FINISH YOUR START. Please grab your SACRED S.O.L. D.A.T.E. Would you believe that we are already 3 months through the year?I can't! The other day I was looking back on these months and feeling defeated, that all that hope and gusto that I had January 1st, was gone. I wondered what I would want someone to say to me in this moment, and after some deep thought and prayer, I'm thinking I found a great solution. To not just stop, after what we think was a 'bad 3 months' to instead really reflect on what we did, and then hit the reset button. Which could also mean revisiting and revising those goals we set at the beginning of the year and lastly, restarting!Who cares that its the last week of March and we are hitting that restart button, we are doing so with 3 months of knowledge and experience with us!Let me know what you think of this little method and don't forget to be kind to yourself, these are the hardest 3 months of the year, it's only up from here! As we conclude our journey through the thirteen keys for self-reconnection and balance, Ceryn invites you to consider those ideas of Human and Soul, and what they really mean. All too often in these spiritually-focussed circles, we see our human selves being diminished and painted as less than the soulful side of us; but the truth is that both are vital. It is only within the synergy of the two that we are able to find a true sense of the sacred in ourselves and our lives. But how do we do that? The answer to that might just come in the form of our 13th key, grounding. Dive in while we explore all this and more.Episode NotesWithin this episode, Ceryn mentions the book Wake Up Mother which she is involved with. At a time when the world is faced with a new “normal”, the question is how do we prepare for a future that will look very different than the past. According to Dr. Ximenez, it is time for us to embrace the unknown and to relish the freedom to create a life with new possibilities. Clearly, as the pandemic spread around the world since 2020, it brought death and destruction in its wake. In this episode, Dr. Ximenez speaks about this time of reconstructing our lives once again. She asks us to take risks, to listen to our inner voices and to allow for new thinking. It is a recipe for an even better future as we Start Again, in the year 2023. This month's episode of the Divine Feminist is a special one, as Ceryn talks with Laura Bates about her work and experiences to date. Founder of The Everyday Sexism Project and author of eight books to date, Laura is involved with a number of programmes and campaigns that demand real change from those at the very top of our societies, and works in schools across the UK and beyond to educate young people about sexism, consent and sexual violence. Her latest book, No Accident, is the second of her fictional works and, though aimed at young adults, provides a powerful and important perspective on these subjects and their impacts upon young people today. The hotly anticipated brand new single by the multi-award winning accordionist and singer Brandon McPhee is due for release. Like many musicians forced to down tools as a result of the global pandemic due to Covid-19, Brandon McPhee from Caithness has turned his hand to songwriting and will release his first original song “Let's Start Again” via Pan Records on the 9th June 2022. This stunning composition is centred around the musings on the world through a Gen Z'r eyes and what needs to be done to make the world a better place. Brandon's musical journey started at the age of 10 taking up the 3-row button accordion influenced by his Grandad. 7 years later his singing journey began, thus increasing his musical repertoire and since leaving school making music his full-time career, recording a number of CD's and DVD's as well as cover version singles mostly in the genre of country music. A number of these singles charted in various radio charts in Europe, Tasmania and Australia. In total Brandon has composed around 25 instrumental tunes recently releasing a music book with 22 of these tunes however the book is much more, a 44 page “The Story So Far” includes Brandon's history including his involvement with the Royal Family. Recently he put pen to paper on his feelings and how he sees the world today resulting in his first 4 self-penned lyrics and melodies.
As we move onto the twelfth of our thirteen keys for self connection and sacred balance, Ceryn invites you to journey with the ideas of outcome and possibility. We live in a world that so often wants us to focus on outcomes; definitive outcomes that can be objectively glasses as "good" or "successful". And there are definitely times when such a clear focus is useful or even necessary. But how often does that mindset rob us of possibility, and of all that can unfold if we allow ourselves to step into the unknown. What is the key to moving into that place of possibility? Ceryn calls it beauty, but not the type of beauty we're used to hearing or reading about. After all, this isn't about checking off boxes on a societally defined list of what makes us acceptable. Instead is it about aligning ourselves with a true sense of beauty; one that involves awe, wonder, and is in the closest place imaginable if only we allow ourselves to open to it. Episode NotesWithin this episode, Ceryn mentions three ways you can work with her this Winter and in early 2023, which are:2023 Soul Readings, available for a limited time only via this link. The Sekhem Level 1 and 2 initiations Ceryn will be running alongside Rachael Morley this January, including an in-person weekend in the magical lands of Glastonbury. As we move on to the eleventh of our thirteen keys for self connection and sacred balance, Ceryn invites you to journey with her as she faces one of the scariest topics of all: Death. But how would our relationship with that concept - and equally with the ideas of life, birth and rebirth - be if we had been raised in a world that focussed more on the yin side of life? A world that taught us life was a cyclical rather than a linear process. The key to doing that? To breaking out of the linear A to B idea of life and moving instead into a place of true cyclical living? Wildness. And the courage to come back to ourselves and to nature. Join Ceryn to talk about exactly that, and the path that lies open to each of us as when we choose to turn that key. Episode NotesWithin this episode, Ceryn mentions three exciting events she is involved with at this time, which are:The free Arise and Awaken event on December 2nd and 3rd, which this year focuses on Working with the Dark Goddess in preparation for 2023's Divine Feminine Liberation. What if "failure" was actually an opportunity to learn? What if it gave us the chance to collect data about what worked and what didn't?What if we decided to be curious instead of judgmental? If you keep showing up, you're not failing. So let's release all-or-nothing thinking once and for all, and lean into a mindset of growth

As we continue our journey through the thirteen keys to sacred balance and self re-connection, we come back to that very idea of connection and, in particular, what that means when it comes to ourselves. We are all multi-faceted beings; different voices within us bringing their thoughts, hopes and fears to the table, while the fact that we exhibit different aspects of ourselves in different situations is perfectly natural and even wise rather than a sign that we're somehow inauthentic. Join Ceryn for a discussion of all of this and more as she invites you to consider the key of connection, and how we can all work with this within ourselves and the world. As we continue our journey through the thirteen keys for sacred balance and self-reconnection, Ceryn invites you to consider the idea of boundaries - what they are and how we set them.Boundaries are something we hear a lot about in today's world, and even more so as we walk this path of Divine Feminism and realise that, for all of patriarchy's work to steer us away from boundaries, neither we nor the planet can sustain the constant drive to take without limit. But for so many of us, the very term is something we've never been taught, and one we need to truly deep dive with in order to understand and integrate on our terms. And even when we have the "what", there is work to be done to understand how we can set and maintain boundaries in our own lives. And that's where today's episode comes in.
