Like most people who were alive in 1986, filmmaker Steven Leckart remembers the Challenger disaster. He was a kid in elementary school at the time. But as an adult, Leckart set out to explore the aftermath of what happened through interviews with astronauts' family members, engineers and NASA officials. Today, Leckart joins Lindsay to talk about the 2020 Netflix series, Challenger: The Final Flight, which he co-directed and produced.Be the first to know about Wondery's newest podcasts, curated recommendations, and more! Pamela Adlon from FX's ‘Better Things' joins Newsweek's H. Alan Scott to chat about the fifth and final season of her Emmy nominated and Peabody award-winning series. The two talk about her feelings on the final season, cancel culture, and her iconic (and Emmy-winning) work as a voiceover artist. Also on this week's episode, Emmy-winning filmmaker and journalist Steven Leckart stops by to talk about his Apple Original podcast ‘Wild Things,' which digs deep into the lives of illusionists Siegfried & Roy and how there might be more to the tiger attack Roy suffered during a live show than you realize. Of course, H. Alan breaks down everything you need to watch this week like Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg's action adventure film Uncharted, the new season of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, and the return of Law & Order. [audio mp3=“https://talkaboutlasvegas.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/Steven_Leckart_021422.mp3"][/audio] This week, Ira spoke with veteran investigative journalist and Emmy winning filmmaker, Steven Leckart, who wrote, narrated and executive produced a new eight-part podcast series, “Wild Things: Siegfried & Roy,” available now as an Apple Original on Apple Podcasts. In this episode of Talk About Las Vegas, Steven talks about his early interest in Siegfried & Roy as a child; how he jumped at the chance to be involved in this project ,which investigates how and and why Roy Horn was injured on stage during the duo's performance in 2003 by Montecore the tiger; how the podcast team tracked down witnesses who have never been publicly interviewed and provided information and insight; why Siegfried & Roy still have an impact on Las Vegas and beyond; how the duo's childhoods had an impact on their lives and careers; how the podcast was structured and why Apple decided to go with the series; and the lesson Steven learned at the end of the series.
Apple News Today is bringing you a special episode — the first installment of Wild Things, a new podcast series from Apple TV+. Over the course of nearly half a century, Siegfried & Roy performed 30,000 shows for 50 million people and generated well over $1 billion in ticket sales. Although the German-born illusionists and pop culture icons were mega-famous, much about their private lives, eccentric public personae, and tragic final show remained shrouded in mystery…until now. Emmy®-winning filmmaker and journalist Steven Leckart, in his very first podcast, takes you behind the velvet curtain to reveal shocking moments, surprising details, and hidden truths about two men who were lionized by millions of fans, lampooned by the media, criticized by animal welfare advocates, and endlessly scrutinized by the public.

This week on Sinica, Kaiser and Jeremy chat with Jude Blanchette, the Freeman Chair at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, to talk about the faulty assumptions that American analysts and policymakers continue to make about politics in China — and the flawed policy built on those problematic assumptions. Despite much recent academic research into the behavior of authoritarian states that offer better models for understanding China’s politics, several older and less accurate heuristics persist. Jude deftly skewers these and offers useful approaches to thinking about Xí Jìnpíng 习近平 and the CCP leadership. 4:57: “Collapsism” and China’s political system10:45: The shortcomings of engagement with China24:21: “Xi besieged” 34:26: The “hidden reformer” fallacyRecommendations:Jeremy: The Plague Cycle: The Unending War Between Humanity and Infectious Disease, by Charles Kenny, and The War on the Uyghurs: China's Internal Campaign Against a Muslim Minority, by Sean R.
