Our latest Love Fort Wayne podcast episode brings forth an intimate conversation with two distinguished pastors, Dr. Dave Tilma and Dr. Luther Whitfield. Their narrative weaves through the city's spiritual climate, drawing on Dr. Tilma's recent move to the bustling urban culture and Dr. Whitfield's lifelong roots that run deep within the community's soil. Their shared passion for Fort Wayne and its residents shines as they recount the joys and challenges of their ministries and the impact of their family legacies.Fort Wayne is not just a city; it's a community rich in diversity and spirit, where churches stand as cornerstones of hope and engagement. This episode delves into the Love Fort Wayne initiative, a beacon of unity in the COVID-19 storm, rallying the Christian community to rise to the economic and social challenges. Our dialogue with Dr. Tilma and Dr. Whitfield reveals how local churches are transcending traditional roles, fostering a culture of transparent leadership and becoming sanctuaries of spiritual healing. They share inspiring stories of how living missionally isn't confined within church walls—it's a call to action in all areas of life. But what of those tasked with the heavy mantle of spiritual leadership? We turn a reflective eye on the emotional toll it takes on pastors like our guests and discuss the critical importance of self-care, rest, and Sabbath. They open up about their personal journeys toward finding balance, their strategies for recharging, and the strength they draw from a network of supportive peers. This introspective chapter is a heartfelt reminder that even the shepherds need a sanctuary, and in Fort Wayne, they find it by lifting each other up. Join us as we share in a dialogue that offers a rare glimpse into the lives of those leading our spiritual communities. We are also delighted to introduce Eric Hall, who contributed a captivating and inaugural short midway through the discussion. In this week's episode of The Growing Revolution- Smart PotCast, we got to speak with Paul Meehan of Natchez Tree Company of Lamar, Mississippi. Paul has become a great customer of our Root Control Bags for his tree farm, and we wanted to learn about his history, how he got into the business in the first place, and how he's using our products.Paul's nursery has only been running for 4 years, but he's already been selling through his inventory, which is a great accomplishment for a first generation tree farmer. He originally went to school for marketing, but after a few years of being successful doing sales in NYC, he had a longing to start a tree farm (who doesn't?) and thus started a long road of research. Paul called upon dozens of tree farmers to pick their brain about how to set up a tree farm and if he should even bother in the first place. The general answer was yes, you can do it, but you have to be smart. One of Paul's biggest mentors is Eric Hall, who was a previous guest on our podcast. Eric got him onto the Monarch Auger system, which works hand-in-glove with our Root Control Bags. With Eric's consulting knowledge, the Natchez Tree Co was started and it's been an adventure in farming trees ever since. Within the last year or so, Paul's trees have reached a harvesting size so now he gets to add selling trees to his daily chores besides keeping them growing and planting up new ones. If you are considering the tree nursery business, listen to this podcast, and feel free to reach out to Paul, and us at High Caliper Growing/ Smart Pot. Welcome back for Episode number 6, of Season 2 of The Growing Revolution- Smart PotCast. Our guest this week is Eric Hall, who we have known for a number of years as a tree nursery manager, and as he was developing the Monarch Auger.Installing fabric, in-ground bags can be a labor-intensive operation, but with Eric's Monarch Auger, it's a breeze! Labor needed to install 150 in-ground bags a day goes from 14, down to 3 or 4. Labor being one of the largest expenses in any agricultural operation, being able to save on that manpower helps to achieve a positive return on investment within 50 hours of operation. Also, with the Monarch Auger, native soil can be amended with microbes and/or fertilizer to give it a faster time to harvest from 20-40%, which is HUGE, when you are talking about a product that takes 3-4 years to mature/harvest. Eric has been a longtime fan of our Root Control Bags as a production tool to help tree farmers achieve better profitability. The farmers that hire him as a consultant, and take his advice, are going to be the standard model for the tree nursery industry for many years to come. Jeffrey Pugh and Eric Hall have taken over the Theology Nerd podcast this week! Jeff and Eric, authors of the Homebrewed Guide to the End Times and God (respectively), sat down early on Holy Saturday to talk about their books, how a young Assemblies of God Eric got an endowed chair at a Catholic school, and what it was like to be an original Jesus Freak with Jeff in the 60s and 70s. They also get super nerdy and talk about: what is truth? and how do you get to the truth of God? how do you interpret Christ's return and make sense of it in today's world? what do Taoism and Meister Eckhart have in common? To celebrate the launch of Theology Beer Camp: Summer Edition we are sharing some of our favorite moments from the first Theology Beer Camp earlier this year. Tickets for Theology Beer Camp in Denver (August 18-19) and Oklahoma City (August 25-26) are on sale now! But you better hurry, prices go up Friday! In this episode, Eric Hall, author of the Homebrewed Guide to God (on sale now), and Archbishop Raymond G. Hunthausen Professor of Peace and Justice at Carroll College in Helena, Montana, witnesses to a room full of (slightly tipsy) progressive Protestants on behalf of the Catholic Church. Eric (who also wrote Paradox of Authenticity) also puts on summer camps for high school students to integrate faith and ecology into their own understanding of themselves, God, and the world. Rumor has it he's got scholarships for podcast listeners who have students who would be interested in attending. You can email Tripp for more info about this or using Eric's discussion videos for your small group or congregation while reading the Homebrewed Guide to God. Learn more about your ad choices. On July 23, 2015, Eric Hall delivered a Banner Lecture entitled “A Native Son Comes Home: The Life and Legacy of Arthur Ashe.” Virginia's own Arthur Ashe was one of the world's best tennis players in the 1960s and 1970s, winning multiple Davis Cup titles and three Grand Slam events: the U.S. Open, the Australian Open, and Wimbledon. He was also deeply committed to human and civil rights causes, most notably the antiapartheid movement in South Africa. His career as an athlete and activist straddling the civil rights and Black Power movements, Ashe fought against racism and injustice from the political center and welcomed public and private debate. This lecture will explore Ashe's early life in Richmond and Lynchburg as well as his legacy as a public intellectual. Eric Allen Hall is an assistant professor of history and Africana studies at Georgia Southern University in Statesboro. He is the author of Arthur Ashe: Tennis and Justice in the Civil Rights Era. The content and opinions expressed in these presentations are solely those of the speaker and not necessarily of the Virginia Museum of History & Culture.
